- Hurricane Florence came ashore in North Carolina this morning, bringing howling winds and a terrifying storm surge, ripping apart buildings and knocking out power to half a million homes.

I think the cap she wears is supposed to act as a safety assurance..if the wind is strong enough to take off her cap, it would be a signal to get the eff out of there

I once saw a reporter held coconut tree with one arm to report in hurricane.

I'm glad people listened and evacuated. Even if the winds aren't that bad, the water is no joke. My uncle lives by the river in Jacksonville, NC and he left. He's been through a few hurricanes and said the only thing irreplaceable is your life. Hope the ones who stayed get through safely and the ones who left have something to come back to. Good luck guys 🙏🙏
My grandparents live in Swansboro and they chose to stay, luckily they're okay

I live in Hubert, it's between swansboro and jacksonville. We got lucky cause a tree fell and only swiped our house. Slightly more to the side, and it wouldve landed fully onto our home. We evacuated to Knoxville, TN and it took a week to get home slowly. Stayed 2 days in Knoxville, then 2 days in SC's capital, then 2 days in Raleigh, then finally got home. At one point trying to get home, because we were running out of money, an 18 wheeler offered to drive just ahead of us across this really flooded road, cause his wheels push the water away from us. I freaked out cause water started to flood into the car from under the door. Only half an inch or so, and it soaked into the floor, but it scared me so bad. 0/10 would not like to go through that again.

They need news people to be in the Hurricane to tell us there’s a hurricane 😂 Why is this even a thing anymore? I find more and more people are laughing at these news coverages and stations how they don’t mind sending their staff out in dangerous weather conditions to report it’s storming 😂
Some networks have been known to use a green screen, a fan to simulate wind, and a little acting. Its safer, cheaper, and nobody will know the difference!

Basically at my Dads work, There was a cat that had kittens. Hurricane Florence was going to hit, so the owner asked someone to take them in. Ofc, My Dad chose to take them in. We still have our fur babies to this day!
I lived in Jacksonville for a time, luckily we had long been moved before this. Soooo scary. I sat through Sandy, she was supposed to hit ENC but she went around us and hit the jersey shore instead.
It's crazy to think this way but...this wasn't even a really strong hurricane but it caused damage. I could only image the damage would cause to a country not as developed as us.

How come metric units are used wind speed when usa uses the imperial system? There is a huge difference between the two. 100mph is 160kmh.
I was actually in florence and in Wellington Nc, still live in nc just away from the cost. Florence took my grandpa so when I say this, dont stay mad at family, because you'll never know if they'll be here today and gone tomorrow, god bless
