I had to go back like five times and was trying to remember if Sam gave the horn of winter to a guy named Tim, and if I’d forgotten a character named Tim , if he did give it to Tim he’s probably a Night’s watch , what did Tim do to get sent to the wall. I actually have a strong belief that Euron’s threat will be dealt with at Highgarden. -George has said that Willas and Garlan will be important characters going forward. -The theory about Euron being a rouge student of Bloodraven leads me to believe that Bran will be involved possibly through the Weirwood net. -There are a trio of Weirwoods in the Highgarden god’s wood. -Weirwood arrows have been a minor Chekhov’s gun. -Sam’s archery training arc has been a minor but consistent plot point throughout the later books. -Highgarden overlooks the wide navigable Mander River which makes it a perfect setup for the Ironborn ships to sail right up to it. All this gives me a strong suspicion that Highgarden will be the location of the final stand against Euron.

That’s a great idea. If euron took old town, sailed up that river, then he’d have to carry his boats across the land a short way to reach the mander and take high garden. Considering the idea of Ironborn carrying boats over land has already been mentioned this could happen. High garden is thematically linked to Greeneers and CotF while Euron and iron born are thematically linked to the Others, so I can see how symbolically this conflict would work
@@umwha I hadn’t even considered that they might portage their ships overland between the Honeywine and the Mander. I just assumed they would sail back around to the mouth of the Mander and make their way up. That could be cool though!

But once he HAS obliterated the majority of the Reach's naval forces and got himself a giant kraken out of it, I can see him going back to the Hightower and Oldtown (who'll have much fewer forces to fight back) to do whatever other magical shit or stealing of valuable items he has planned.
Malora Hightower the Mad Maid is actually not Leyton's wife, she's his eldest daughter from one of his three dead wives. ( who BTW likely died in the Grey Plague at least that's my theory as his becoming a hermit/germaphobe would make sense if he lost lots of family in the epidemic)
I was just about to make note of this mistake so ty. To be fair though, it's *really* hard to be familiar with all the minour characters without extensive re-reads. I doubt they even imagined it could be wrong due to its relative obscurity compared to the main story arcs
It’s a shame how botched Euron’s story was in the show. I was so excited to watch the crazed apocalyptic battle at Oldtown, but was quite disappointed when all we got was: “I aM tHe MaN wHo KiLlEd JaMiE LaNniStEr”
Only good thing about that is, if “broad strokes” is to be fully believed, then maybe Jaime will kill Euron in the books too. There are lots of Greyjoy-Lannister connections after all. Looking at the potential context of that happening, it is an absolutely epic idea.
@@MyUserTubeAccount it is commonly said that Jaime will end up either serving Young Griff (by being his “kingmaker” and denouncing Tommen just as he compares himself to Criston Cole and thinks Tommen is better off not on the throne), serving Jon by taking the black or going North with Brienne for whatever reason, being killed by Lady Stoneheart and saving Brienne in the process, or going back to Cersei near the end after some craziness. I think the first is most likely, putting him right in the middle of Dance of the Dragons 2.0 and fulfilling his more persisting thoughts about his promise to Rhaegar. In my opinion, YG is clearly an endgame player and he needs an original POV by his side to go along with JonCon, whether that be Jaime or Sansa (through marriage) or both. Euron will also likely be heavily involved with Dance 2.0 and in my opinion him and Dany being married is very likely for several reasons. This would already make him and Jaime eventual enemies, but both of their stories could very well also extend into the Long Night if the theories about Euron are to be believed. So Jaime being the one to do it in some kind of final conflict that goes along with the destruction of KL is one way it can happen, and I think it’s a really badass idea.
Two things Euron makes use of in his pursuit of power: - Illicit knowledge. - Mocking religion. Oldtown has both the Citadel and the Starry Sept. He's going there.
0:52 just a correction, Jon didn’t dispatch the cinnamon wind. He sent Sam Gilly and Aemond to Braavos on the Blackbird. They then found the Cinnamon Wind to take them from there after being stuck in Braavos for a while

In addition to Sam, the sphinx, the maesters, the Ironborn and the faceless men, the remnants of the Brave Companions are also at Oldtown (or at least last we heard of them they were enroute to get there).
@@QuinnTheGM One thing I always thought was kind of odd about the Brave Companions were how fixated they are on religion. Sure septs & temples become easy targets for raiders after the war (especially in the riverlands) but the BC is particilary nasty and enthuisastic about it. There's a part in AFFC where Septon Meribald tells about a dead septa found in a river with bite marks on her breasts. He thinks it was wolves but I'm pretty sure it was Biter. The BC is lead by a Qohoric who dresses like his god, the back goat and amoung their members is a septon and a former maester (both from religious institutions). So I think its kind of interesting that out of all cities in westeros they head for Oldtown which is like the mekka of the faith of the seven as both the citadel and the starry sept is located there.

You forgot the most forgotten Oldtown TWOW plot: The Brightwater Keep succession crisis. Stannis (the mannis) burns Alester Florent before leaving for the Wall making his son Alekyne Florent, Lord of Brightwater Keep. Cersei and Mace later give Brightwater Keep to Garlan after declaring the Florents traitors. Here's the fun part. Alekyne Florent has two sisters: Rhea is Leyton Hightower's current wife and Melessa is Sam's mom. Garlan, on the other hand, is the son of Leyton's daughter Alerie. The ownership of Brightwater Keep is between Leyton's brother-in-law and his grandson. Alekyne has already come to Oldtown to seek refuge with his sister. Garlan has been sent to root the Ironborn out of the Reach.
I theorise that Euron has found a way to combine fire magic (powered by sacrifice) and ice magic (possession, necromancy). He will sacrifice thousands, possibly by fire, to fuel his warging ability so he can control the Krakens, but it won't end there. He'll possess the dead bodies of his victims. Wights under his control will swarm oldtown which has no defence. Despite years of anticipation of the wall falling, the dead attack from the south. Sam, Sarella, Gilly and Lazy Leo and maybe Jaquen will struggle to survive and escape, with Sam leading them as the only expert on wights in old town, though Sarella joins euron in life, or in death. Jaquen will attempt to assassinate Euron, but by then he will be too strong and kill jaquen. Sam escapes with the horn of winter and the knowledge that can save westeros, possibly making it to starfall or Dorne. Euron will then move his forces toward essos, barring Danyres from crossing the sea until her dragons and armies destroy him.
Military campaigns are rarely completely straight line affairs. You often go around the enemy to take them from the side or rear. Navies need a base from which to supply themselves and launch attacks from. Taking up a base on an island not too far past Oldtown would be a reasonable course of action if planning to stage an attack.
Euron may be the king of the apocalypse, he reminds me so much to Bloodstone emperor. He may cause the long night for his desire to become a human god. .. but well, for now he's the most fascinating character in the books
So you're telling me I'm NOT going to get a Dumbledore vs Voldemort at the Ministry of Magic type battle between Euron and Lord Hightower? Pah I say, Pah! Lol. Btw, given Euron's primary goal is to sit the throne, it's possible that the sphinxes from Aeron's vision represent the the two Valyrian sphinxes that flank the council chamber in the Red Keep- an indication of the small council swearing fealty to their new king. To out myself, I'm one who suspects Euron is a fraud. If a kraken actually appears, I don't think it'll be on account of magic; it'll be on account of all the blood in the water (similar to how blood attracts sharks). But Jon Q. Public of Westeros will THINK it's the magic that brought them, so Euron essentially tricks everyone into believing he's something that he's not.

In the show, we saw that it was a dragon that actually brought down the Wall. So, a horn that brings down the Wall and a horn that can control dragons might actually be the same thing.
Small correction: the Mad Maid who is assisting Leyton Hightower in his (rumored) magical research, whose name is Malora Hightower, is Leyton's oldest daughter, not his wife. Leyton has a total of 10 kids from his 4 wives, one of whom is Malora, another is Lynesse who is Jorah's ex and whose greed caused Jorah to have to flee Westeros or be executed, a third, Alerie, is the wife of Mace Tyrell and the mother of Willas, Garlan, Loras, and Margaery, and a fourth, Gunthor, Sam meets when he comes aboard the Cinnamon Wind to search it and make sure there are no Ironborn stowed-away trying to sneak into Oldtown. The Redwyne fleet has become even more prestigious and important as of the end of the ADwD because virtually all of the warships of the Velaryon fleet were part of Stannis's armada that tried to take King's Landing during the Battle of the Blackwater, and were destroyed (along with Lord Velaryon) by Wildfyre. So as Euron is letting himself be trapped in the Redwyne Straits, he has the biggest and baddest fleet at his front and the second biggest and baddest fleet (other than the Iron Fleet) at his back. He is gambling everything on stacking the deck against himself as much as possible, that way if his.... blood magic Cthulhu unholy-apotheosis ritual works, he will basically become the only significant seapower in Westeros in one fell swoop (the Lannisters do also have a large fleet, but it's definitely smaller than the Redwyne fleet, and with Tywin and Kevan dead, Tyrion attainted, Jaime MIA, and Cersei fallen from power, the Lannister fleet is unlikely to be going anywhere with all the chaos and confusion about who is even in charge)

You have an excellent channel my friend. I'm a huge fan of ice and fire theory vids (Ice and fire methadone I call it, while we wait for winds). Easily the best up and coming channel I've seen. Keep it up and you will be huge man.
But dragons are evil beasts, nuclear weapons that spread death and destruction. Yes, the masters are very cunning, but some of their motives are noble. Not having dragons around certainly keeps the people far safer than they would be if dragons roamed free.

I love your videos so much. Your essay videos are the only ones about ASOIAF that make me regularly rewind and guffaw again and again because of your gags, intentional and otherwise. "Creedence Clearwater Revival" was so stupid and caught me so off guard that I had to rewind twice like some dumb circus chimp. I was then sent into tears by the tech issue of your voice trailing off and disappearing at the 2 minute mark. Your videos are like the perfect trolling/ gaslighting. There was another video where you plastered two takes of you reading your video script for a certain segment over one another mid video and that made me lol also. God these are so good
I think it’s a feint to draw both fleets into range and out of the protection of their shallow bays. If Euron somehow knows about the maester conspiracy, taking them and/or Oldtown as an entity out would ingratiate him to Daenerys on top of the spoils he might reap. It’s entirely possible that GRRM’s expansion of the dance of dragons and the Hightower’s role in it is groundwork to explain why they’re targeted and whatever their fate becomes at the hands of Euron. There may also be something interesting locked away in the oily black stone the Hightower sits upon, only accessible by means of dragon fire/magic, something Leyton might be seeking himself!
If you think about it, we could have easily gotten a book or series on the doom to conquest and founding portion of the Targaryen history, but we get a look into the key fall of dragons before Dany can even use hers to fly to Westeros. It would be better to show us this folly and treachery at the hands of Oldtown and then destroy it, even partially, than it would be to show us the conquest in detail for Dany to largely mirror it while wrestling with some technological tweaks on the defending side. Magic is returning to the world, and I’m sure Oldtown will have something to say about it, even if covertly.

with GRMM’s famous quote about magic being mentioned, it had me thinking again about what i believe will happen with Euron. i think he will indeed summon a kraken but that h or most of his men will die in the waters of that straight. the sword without a hilt has a handle still has a handle so he can grasp it but he can not wield it (magic) for his intended purpose
Having re-read the books its genuinely astounding to see how badly the show failed its source material in the later stages. I can only hope we'll one day get a more accurate show or anime adaptation, though it is a shame as Seasons 1-4 were fantastic and the cast were, for the most part, perfect.
i honestly think the issue was much more that D&D ended the show early because they wanted to go do star wars instead of doing the 10 seasons of 10 episodes that HBO wanted. They did have to cut out or combine several plot points or characters even in the early seasons but I don't necessarily think that the plot of the final few seasons was necessarily the issue... Because they had so many loose ends to tie up the pacing of events was terrible and some characters either acted out of character or would just say why they are doing something without any build up or foreshadowing breaking the main rule of film which is show dont tell..
The reason Euron is able to just chill on the Arbor is that by the time his fleet came along, the Arbor was basically deserted militarily and politically. The lord and both of the heirs of House Redwyne- Paxter, Horas, and Hobber Redwyne- have all been away for 2 years+ at this point along with any notable lesser lord or knights from the Arbor, and at the time that the Iron Fleet came through, the Redwyne fleet was on the other side of the continent besieging Dragonstone. The only people left would have been wives and children, and the peasants who live on the island, all of whom couldn't really do anything other than surrender because they aren't trained to fight. And Cersei only eventually gave the Redwyne fleet permission to go defend The Reach once the Siege of Dragonstone was resolved, which only happened when Loras volunteered to resolve it in response to the Ironborn attacks on the Reach, after which he proceeded to resolve the siege via LEROOOOOY JENKIIIIIIIINS!

I think Euron could wind up marrying Daenerys, solely because it would lend itself to her descent into madness. If she were to be married to such a debased character, Euron’s taste for violence can be paired with Daenerys’s desire for the crown. Together they would likely terrorize Westeros in the name of power, and we could see her progressively get more and more complacent with mass murder. Just a thought I had.
We haven't heard from or about Sam since 05 but people way smarter than me say that Samwell V in feast is one of the very last chapters of the two combined books. So that would be George's excuse.
You gave me something to think about. Feeling that the legend about this hero of old, the Azor Ahai, is not what it seems, and that he is not this pure hearted person (probably over the thousands of years the story changed and anyway, it is so easy to make someone into a hero, disregarding some facts). Euron is so evil, that I am thinking - here it is, the Asor Ahai. May be he will accidentally save the world from darkness, while pursuing his own, evil goals.
I believe Euron will conjure a Dragon from the Sea, with the dragon egg he threw away. The dragon will be out of control tho and destroy all of the ships (As in Aeron’s dream). Euron will be left stranded, until Victarion blows the horn at the battle of fire. Now here me out ;) The horn will give Euron control of his sea dragon and not any of danys dragons. That’s the twist imo. Getting Victarion out of the way but still usefull where dany has been given a fleet as a gift by euron to get her over to westeros to cause more chaos. I think Euron will wreak havoc in the reach for a while Aeron will die so we will only hear of his actions and destruction from sam while he is still in the area, but by the end of the book euron will be at Casterly Rock pledging himself to Cersei in her POV after she escapes before Faegon arrives.
I disagree with the idea hes going to the iron throne from a meta perspective as we have set up the citadel as an important pov location and with Cersei and likely joncon being at the red keep I think that even if euron does take the iron throne it wont be in the first half of WoW
I DEFINITELY think Euron will take and sack Oldtown, maybe even the Hightower itself. We have to remember that even though he was elected king, his people hate him, they only follow him if there is plunder and victory. Yes Eurons goal definitely seems to be the Iron Throne (at least for now), but if he just sails away from Oldtown without sacking it, the other ironborn will be furious, especially if his alternative is sailing all around Westeros to go to a less rich city. Also Euron definitely believes in magic, and he would know that there is some magical artefacts in/hidden in the Citadel or the Hightower. A lot of people think he has a glass candle already (Urrathon Nightwalker) as well so I wouldn’t be surprised if he knows all about Sam and his Horn. He also likes killing priests and septons, don’t you think he would have a ball killing all the priests in the Starry Sept? He would love it. And people know about Old Lord Leyton Hightower and how he’s been hold up at the top of the Hightower for years reading old spell books and shit with the mad maid. That’s a chekhovs gun if I’ve ever heard it. What the hell are they doing up there?? Euron will be the one to find out. I’m interested to see who you think Euron will marry if not Daenerys. I’ve heard some people say Malora the mad maid, Cersei or even Melisandre.
He definitely believes in magic, but the citadel itself isn’t that well known for magic. In fact, the maesters tend to be pretty anti-magic, generally. I think some of Euron’s men may go to Oldtown, and it may get some collateral damage from the Battle of Blood, but I doubt the Crow’s Eye will personally sack it.

Euron is the scariest villain I've ever seen. I can't wait to learn more about his origin and what his actual plan is in "Winds of Winter."

I was just about to make note of this mistake so ty. To be fair though, it's *really* hard to be familiar with all the minour characters without extensive re-reads. I doubt they even imagined it could be wrong due to its relative obscurity compared to the main story arcs

@@MyUserTubeAccount it is commonly said that Jaime will end up either serving Young Griff (by being his “kingmaker” and denouncing Tommen just as he compares himself to Criston Cole and thinks Tommen is better off not on the throne), serving Jon by taking the black or going North with Brienne for whatever reason, being killed by Lady Stoneheart and saving Brienne in the process, or going back to Cersei near the end after some craziness. I think the first is most likely, putting him right in the middle of Dance of the Dragons 2.0 and fulfilling his more persisting thoughts about his promise to Rhaegar. In my opinion, YG is clearly an endgame player and he needs an original POV by his side to go along with JonCon, whether that be Jaime or Sansa (through marriage) or both.
Euron will also likely be heavily involved with Dance 2.0 and in my opinion him and Dany being married is very likely for several reasons. This would already make him and Jaime eventual enemies, but both of their stories could very well also extend into the Long Night if the theories about Euron are to be believed. So Jaime being the one to do it in some kind of final conflict that goes along with the destruction of KL is one way it can happen, and I think it’s a really badass idea.
Two things Euron makes use of in his pursuit of power:
- Illicit knowledge.
- Mocking religion.
Oldtown has both the Citadel and the Starry Sept. He's going there.

Sure septs & temples become easy targets for raiders after the war (especially in the riverlands) but the BC is particilary nasty and enthuisastic about it. There's a part in AFFC where Septon Meribald tells about a dead septa found in a river with bite marks on her breasts. He thinks it was wolves but I'm pretty sure it was Biter. The BC is lead by a Qohoric who dresses like his god, the back goat and amoung their members is a septon and a former maester (both from religious institutions). So I think its kind of interesting that out of all cities in westeros they head for Oldtown which is like the mekka of the faith of the seven as both the citadel and the starry sept is located there.

Stannis (the mannis) burns Alester Florent before leaving for the Wall making his son Alekyne Florent, Lord of Brightwater Keep. Cersei and Mace later give Brightwater Keep to Garlan after declaring the Florents traitors. Here's the fun part. Alekyne Florent has two sisters: Rhea is Leyton Hightower's current wife and Melessa is Sam's mom. Garlan, on the other hand, is the son of Leyton's daughter Alerie. The ownership of Brightwater Keep is between Leyton's brother-in-law and his grandson. Alekyne has already come to Oldtown to seek refuge with his sister. Garlan has been sent to root the Ironborn out of the Reach.

I theorise that Euron has found a way to combine fire magic (powered by sacrifice) and ice magic (possession, necromancy). He will sacrifice thousands, possibly by fire, to fuel his warging ability so he can control the Krakens, but it won't end there. He'll possess the dead bodies of his victims. Wights under his control will swarm oldtown which has no defence. Despite years of anticipation of the wall falling, the dead attack from the south. Sam, Sarella, Gilly and Lazy Leo and maybe Jaquen will struggle to survive and escape, with Sam leading them as the only expert on wights in old town, though Sarella joins euron in life, or in death. Jaquen will attempt to assassinate Euron, but by then he will be too strong and kill jaquen. Sam escapes with the horn of winter and the knowledge that can save westeros, possibly making it to starfall or Dorne. Euron will then move his forces toward essos, barring Danyres from crossing the sea until her dragons and armies destroy him.
Military campaigns are rarely completely straight line affairs. You often go around the enemy to take them from the side or rear. Navies need a base from which to supply themselves and launch attacks from. Taking up a base on an island not too far past Oldtown would be a reasonable course of action if planning to stage an attack.

In the show, we saw that it was a dragon that actually brought down the Wall. So, a horn that brings down the Wall and a horn that can control dragons might actually be the same thing.
Small correction: the Mad Maid who is assisting Leyton Hightower in his (rumored) magical research, whose name is Malora Hightower, is Leyton's oldest daughter, not his wife. Leyton has a total of 10 kids from his 4 wives, one of whom is Malora, another is Lynesse who is Jorah's ex and whose greed caused Jorah to have to flee Westeros or be executed, a third, Alerie, is the wife of Mace Tyrell and the mother of Willas, Garlan, Loras, and Margaery, and a fourth, Gunthor, Sam meets when he comes aboard the Cinnamon Wind to search it and make sure there are no Ironborn stowed-away trying to sneak into Oldtown.

The Redwyne fleet has become even more prestigious and important as of the end of the ADwD because virtually all of the warships of the Velaryon fleet were part of Stannis's armada that tried to take King's Landing during the Battle of the Blackwater, and were destroyed (along with Lord Velaryon) by Wildfyre. So as Euron is letting himself be trapped in the Redwyne Straits, he has the biggest and baddest fleet at his front and the second biggest and baddest fleet (other than the Iron Fleet) at his back. He is gambling everything on stacking the deck against himself as much as possible, that way if his.... blood magic Cthulhu unholy-apotheosis ritual works, he will basically become the only significant seapower in Westeros in one fell swoop (the Lannisters do also have a large fleet, but it's definitely smaller than the Redwyne fleet, and with Tywin and Kevan dead, Tyrion attainted, Jaime MIA, and Cersei fallen from power, the Lannister fleet is unlikely to be going anywhere with all the chaos and confusion about who is even in charge)

I think it’s a feint to draw both fleets into range and out of the protection of their shallow bays. If Euron somehow knows about the maester conspiracy, taking them and/or Oldtown as an entity out would ingratiate him to Daenerys on top of the spoils he might reap. It’s entirely possible that GRRM’s expansion of the dance of dragons and the Hightower’s role in it is groundwork to explain why they’re targeted and whatever their fate becomes at the hands of Euron. There may also be something interesting locked away in the oily black stone the Hightower sits upon, only accessible by means of dragon fire/magic, something Leyton might be seeking himself!
If you think about it, we could have easily gotten a book or series on the doom to conquest and founding portion of the Targaryen history, but we get a look into the key fall of dragons before Dany can even use hers to fly to Westeros. It would be better to show us this folly and treachery at the hands of Oldtown and then destroy it, even partially, than it would be to show us the conquest in detail for Dany to largely mirror it while wrestling with some technological tweaks on the defending side. Magic is returning to the world, and I’m sure Oldtown will have something to say about it, even if covertly.

Having re-read the books its genuinely astounding to see how badly the show failed its source material in the later stages.
I can only hope we'll one day get a more accurate show or anime adaptation, though it is a shame as Seasons 1-4 were fantastic and the cast were, for the most part, perfect.
i honestly think the issue was much more that D&D ended the show early because they wanted to go do star wars instead of doing the 10 seasons of 10 episodes that HBO wanted. They did have to cut out or combine several plot points or characters even in the early seasons but I don't necessarily think that the plot of the final few seasons was necessarily the issue... Because they had so many loose ends to tie up the pacing of events was terrible and some characters either acted out of character or would just say why they are doing something without any build up or foreshadowing breaking the main rule of film which is show dont tell..
The reason Euron is able to just chill on the Arbor is that by the time his fleet came along, the Arbor was basically deserted militarily and politically. The lord and both of the heirs of House Redwyne- Paxter, Horas, and Hobber Redwyne- have all been away for 2 years+ at this point along with any notable lesser lord or knights from the Arbor, and at the time that the Iron Fleet came through, the Redwyne fleet was on the other side of the continent besieging Dragonstone. The only people left would have been wives and children, and the peasants who live on the island, all of whom couldn't really do anything other than surrender because they aren't trained to fight. And Cersei only eventually gave the Redwyne fleet permission to go defend The Reach once the Siege of Dragonstone was resolved, which only happened when Loras volunteered to resolve it in response to the Ironborn attacks on the Reach, after which he proceeded to resolve the siege via LEROOOOOY JENKIIIIIIIINS!
This is the only thing I care about in the rest of the series at this point

I think Euron could wind up marrying Daenerys, solely because it would lend itself to her descent into madness. If she were to be married to such a debased character, Euron’s taste for violence can be paired with Daenerys’s desire for the crown. Feeling that the legend about this hero of old, the Azor Ahai, is not what it seems, and that he is not this pure hearted person (probably over the thousands of years the story changed and anyway, it is so easy to make someone into a hero, disregarding some facts). I believe Euron will conjure a Dragon from the Sea, with the dragon egg he threw away. The dragon will be out of control tho and destroy all of the ships (As in Aeron’s dream). Euron will be left stranded, until Victarion blows the horn at the battle of fire. Now here me out ;)
The horn will give Euron control of his sea dragon and not any of danys dragons. That’s the twist imo. Getting Victarion out of the way but still usefull where dany has been given a fleet as a gift by euron to get her over to westeros to cause more chaos.
I think Euron will wreak havoc in the reach for a while Aeron will die so we will only hear of his actions and destruction from sam while he is still in the area, but by the end of the book euron will be at Casterly Rock pledging himself to Cersei in her POV after she escapes before Faegon arrives.

I DEFINITELY think Euron will take and sack Oldtown, maybe even the Hightower itself.
We have to remember that even though he was elected king, his people hate him, they only follow him if there is plunder and victory. Yes Eurons goal definitely seems to be the Iron Throne (at least for now), but if he just sails away from Oldtown without sacking it, the other ironborn will be furious, especially if his alternative is sailing all around Westeros to go to a less rich city.
Also Euron definitely believes in magic, and he would know that there is some magical artefacts in/hidden in the Citadel or the Hightower. A lot of people think he has a glass candle already (Urrathon Nightwalker) as well so I wouldn’t be surprised if he knows all about Sam and his Horn. He also likes killing priests and septons, don’t you think he would have a ball killing all the priests in the Starry Sept? He would love it.
And people know about Old Lord Leyton Hightower and how he’s been hold up at the top of the Hightower for years reading old spell books and shit with the mad maid. That’s a chekhovs gun if I’ve ever heard it. What the hell are they doing up there?? Euron will be the one to find out.

He definitely believes in magic, but the citadel itself isn’t that well known for magic. In fact, the maesters tend to be pretty anti-magic, generally. I think some of Euron’s men may go to Oldtown, and it may get some collateral damage from the Battle of Blood, but I doubt the Crow’s Eye will personally sack it.

I think that Euron will pay for what he does. And Oldtown isnt defenseless, because Leyton and Malora are looking into magic books in the Hightower. I think Oldtown may fall, but the High Tower will endure. All the places with the magical black fused stone endure and i think the High Tower will too
By the looks of it, it seems like good ol' George wrote himself in the corner with this plotline (and a few others). No wonder the "Winds" are taking so long and likely will never be released. Shame.
