I'd welcome a Canon Yuuzhan Vong War. When the Sequel Trilogy ends, and another trilogy starts, a new evil faction will need to be introduced, and not one that's a remnent of the Empire. Something different. And the Yuuzhan Vong would be perfect.

    • @mortarion9813

Also, apparently somehow the history of the Givins of Yag'Dhul or anything like that that wasnt stated in the movies never existed, so; Palpatine seeking guidance on Korriban? NOPE. The great Korriban war? NOPE. I bet even the Alsakan conflicts are discarded.

Dude, the new official universe offers plainty of possibilities. The Legend thing is here to preserve the expanded universe. Of course expanded universe isn't canon, but it has never been canon at all. Expanded universe isn't even coherent. The Yuuzhan Vong storyline is just way over the top.

Honestly, I was pissed when I first learned about EU "Legends" getting thrown out by Disney. But the more I thought about it, the more it actually made sense. If I were in that position, and had to deal with possibly thousands of lore sources (and contradictions) and wanted to make a new series, I would have probably done the same.
I don't think the Legends lore needs to be thrown away or completely ignored. I think it's more like an alternate timeline. Why not let people tinker and build with it, too? And then keep your canon timeline as well. That way there is much more to explore and enjoy on both sides.

I get crap for this from other old EU fans, but the Yuuzhan Vong war was one of my favorite story arcs in the EU, second only to Timothy Zahn's "Heir to the Empire" trilogy.
Do I wish it were still canon? Absolutely. I'd have honestly killed to see new film trilogies based on both events... though a TV series might be needed for the Yuuzhan Vong war, too many important events to cover in just three films.

      Same here.
But to Lucas, Star Wars canon (prime canon) was episodes 1-6, the nature of the Force and the rough origins of the Jedi, Sith and the Republic, only. He considered everything else as rated from secondary to the infamous non-canon Holiday Special. I’m following that rule for the post RotJ era. So, post Ep6 EU Legacy and Disney’s continuation are in parallel universes for me.

Jacen Solo didn't kill "another important enemy". He killed Onimi, the jester of Supremem Overlord Shimrra. Onimi revealed himself as a telepath, and that he was the true leader and mastermind behind the entire Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Jacen Solo also for a brief time became the single most powerful force user in history when he became the "fulcrum" of the Force, becoming invulnerable to all attacks and turn Onimi's toxins against him.
Luke's battle with Shimrra was a sideshow by comparison.

Is it just me or is Disneys canon very uneventful after Endor. The first order still hasn't made the impact that the Empire did or CIS for that matter. The yuzhaan vong would have made a joke out of them. Disney wasn't aware that a lot of Star Wars fans have not even heard of the yuzhaan vong or grand admiral thrawn after Endor. It would have been fine to base the new trilogy after the original canon as not many people read into it. Out of all the friends and people I've met that are fans, I'm the only one who bothered into reading into the EU before and after Endor. This new canon is very very very uneventful.

If they had, while i would have loved watching them, I would have known what was going to happen and expected the shocking moments/twists. Now with the new story line, I don't know what direction they are going to take and it is completely new to me. They just better still keep Luke as the Grandmaster and be the most powerful Jedi!

    • @adrianpallis4568
      @adrianpallis4568 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+SoaR Ram True but the real baddy here are not disney but JJ and producers around him. The producers around him wanted to give him so much free hands at his own story that they killed EU and now we have this stupid situation, were the new movies will cherry pick elements of the EU without doing it right and the story group and Filoni trying to salvage as much of the old EU as they can.
Just to give the Thrawn example that it was rumoured the a Thrawn esque character would be there in episode VIII while same day rumours said Rebels Season 3 would have Thrawn in it. If thats true it seems that lucasfilm are in a situation were they have given the film people all the power and the story group with Pablo Hidalgo, Leland Che and Kiri Hart cannot do anything else than accept the film groups decisions.

A couple things here to nitpick
    1. The Yuuzhan Vong were not force sensitive, in fact they were invisible to it. The only way Jedi could detect them in the Force was by detecting the panic in other lifeforms, the only Jedi that could detect them were Tahiri Valari and Jacen Solo.
    2. You completely omitted the role of Zenoma Sekot in ending the war.

The Yuuzhan Vong series of books were fantastic. It brought a welcome change, instead of Jedi V Sith which is the SAGA episodes 1-6. It created a new threat to the entire Galaxy.
The Sith & Jedi are poised to destroy themselves. There can't be darkside without lightside, there can't be Sith without Jedi for there to be true balance in the force there has to be both Sith & Jedi in the Galaxy.

Greatly appreciate your work. Thank you for the entertainment and I will be tuned in for the rest to come.
I am not upset with this war being uncannon bc it almost reminds me of Dragon Ball Z; the hero's conqueror the most powerful enemy ever (Friza, Androids, Cell, Bu. The only thing more powerful would be God(s)... And that's exactly who the new foes are.....gods). DBZ writers have to make an even stronger enemy to add on more episodes to the story.
This Vong species suddenly comes from nowhere and is more powerful than any foe before.
I'm sure there is way more depth to it and a very good read; and I could be completely wrong and I'm open to that as I have never read the books. Basing this oppinion on the video I just watched. And I still love DBZ even though Goku is on God fighting levels now. Just don't want something as great as the story of Star Wars to have any deluded story arc tacked to it just to further the story.

I'm not really fond of the Yuuzhan Vong because it gives Palpatine justification for becoming a dictator and creating a super weapon seeing how he knew they were coming. It kinda makes the Rebels look like bad guys for jeopardizing the safety of the galaxy by forming a government ill equipped for the attack after destroying the one that was ready.

And who are these "enslaved" people? One story says they come from a world in the dark between Galaxies. So where did they get this population of "more" than a single world? Do a better job than the other guys . . . get the story straight.

    @jameslewis2635 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

While I enjoyed the stories of the Yuuzhan Vong war I feel it was most likely the main thing that led to the expanded universe being dumped simply because it would be too difficult to just kick off a series of films set after it without explaining many things that happened during and afterwards because of this war. Things such as the death of Anekin Solo and the falling to the dark side of Jacen Solo being the main ones in my mind.
Personally I think it would have been great to have a film series based on this war, it could have been epic without re-doing all the Empire vs Rebels/Remenant story. It would also have been a good way to hand over to the next generation of actors as it shows the younger generation taking charge of most of the action. Unfortunately that would no longer be possible due to the age of the original cast by the time Disney got control.

I think of the canon universe & EU in terms of Star Treks JJ Abrams universe compared to the 24th century stuff...alternate timelines. I finished reading these in about 2006 so this was a good recap for me. I'm thinking of resuming with the Legacy and Fate of the Jedi series, so this reminded me where I was at.

.... ehrr ... you mean the Vong had that many victory streaks because Thrawn was dead ^^

      They lost for many reasons.
They had become an enemy of the Force so twisted and evil the Force abandoned them completely. This allowed the Jedi to strike them down in the final hour.
The Madalorians played them. Fett united with them but it was a double cross he was passing information to the Galactic Alliance. During that time Fett managed to build a Mandalorian army the likes of which had not existed for thousands of years and train them to fight the Vong. The Mandalorians eventually turned on the vong and were brutally efficient so much the Vong had to launch a major offensive on Mandalore which then turned into a stalemate.
The Imperials had Gilad Pelaeon who took over the Imperial Remnant and lead them against the Vong. Thrawn gets a lot of love but Pelaeon was the one who really kept the Empire together. After the death of the Emperor he saved the Empires military power and he did so again after Thrawn died. He later used the loyalty of the Military to take control of the Imperial Remnant from the Moffs allowing him to fight as he wished. This resulted in several major victories against the Vong under his command.

Scourgelord Nathreim I really like how you promote Palleon but the reason why he was more successfull than Thrawn in keeping the Empire togheter is because as soon as Thrawn returned from the Unknown Regions, the relatively short time he had on hands he focused to muster what strenght there was available to gather ( improvising most of the time - Katana fleet, saboutaging the rebel fleet etc ) to crush the Republic and only after quickly taking out that threat, he'd channel all energy on restoring the Empire's original strenght. What is remarkable about Thrawns short apperance is that with limited resources he actualy managed to reconquer most of former Imperial territory. We never had the chance to see Thrawn in politics. Palleon had plenty of time and a great mentor. Not to downplay his role at all though. He was a great leader. But being a great leader *and* tacticaly unmatched is above that to me.

I have an idea for a video (if you haven't already done it.....you may have, and I just haven't found it yet).
You should highlight the layout of the Galaxy, how big it is, the different parts of it, some short highlights about the different parts. Just get an overall sense of direction. I think that would be cool.
I already love your videos! So whatever you put out will be awesome.
