I am the owner of this RV and I live over 300 miles from James' location. That being said, I would literally limp in to wherever James is to have him get me on the road again. I have the utmost respect for him and confidence in his work! Thanks again for a job well done James.
This is no joke. Cars were honking their horns and flashing their lights. I pulled over and somebody said, "your awning is falling apart and flying all over the road"! I climbed on the roof and the roof radius was out of the flashing. All of the Styrofoam backing had come out and that is what was flying all over the road. I had to re-order from Winnebago Parts @ $5.40 per 4' section. I ordered the products you prescribed and re-sealed the edges. My unit is a 2003 and clearly had NEVER been re-sealed as 100% of the sealer was gone. No Mineral Spirits required, just cleaned with alcohol. No scraping at all. I dodged a bullet on this one and in doing so found the source of a leak near the passenger seat. This week's job is the self-leveling sealer that you used.
We just picked up a 2015 Adventurer last fall and I just inspected my caulk and it all needs to be redone. I ordered the supplies and have confidence it will be done correctly after watching your video. We leave on a 4 week adventure the end of June so it should be done in time. Many Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this video and educate guys like me that are handy. ;-) Happy Trails
Thank you, you really saved me a roof on my 2006 sightseer. I got back from a short trip and the roof was peeled out about 8 ft. On right side. No damage to the material. I resigned myself to having the roof replaced. And then I found your video. I done the reseal and have 6000 miles on it, no problem. I just bought it used overall in fantastic condition only 36000 miles. No water damage anywhere so I never checked the roof closely. Thank you for your advice.
Excellent DIY tips from a true professional who actually has a conscience! Really helpful. Thank you for the great info, the money-saving tips and thanks for restoring our confidence in (at least one) RV repair person!
I am going to be buying a class A next year , I now feel confident shopping for one having watch all you videos I now know what to look for when inspecting a candidate. Thank you so very much for showing what to look for I appreciate your videos very much
Wow. So glad I watched this video. I just bought a Winnebago Vista yesterday. My seal is also cracked all the way around 😬 Thankful for your channel because now I know how to fix it!
Thanks to this video I tackled the roof job over the last two days. I had this planned for the winter and had already purchased the Manus product to use. After seeing this, I went out and bought ProFlex. While the caulk on the coach(2014 Vista 35B) had not turned to powder, It looked like it might be starting. The job was not easy, taking the time to clean and get all the old stuff off was the toughest part. Oh, and climbing up and down the ladder. Wish I had kept a count on the number of times. One thing I think maybe needs to done in conjunction with this job is to paint the inside of the gutter. While mine are not rusted, they look like it could start. I would think this would be an easy and quick job using brush on paint and a foam brush. I keep my rig indoors, so I feel if you store outdoors this would be even more important.
I learned about this from you a few year back, thank god I did! Saved me a very expensive repair! I used premier pro roof sealant and it lasts much longer than silicon.
Awesome! My coach is a Winnebago. I wash and inspect my roof at least once every two months. I also wax it twice a year. Although the radius looked good, I added a cap of the pro flex sealant. Thank you for the tips.
Thank you for your very detailed approach at resolving this issue. I just bought a 2016 Winnebago/Itasca Sunstar 30T. During the prepurchase, I found about an 8' section of the roof radius to gutter seal not adhering. I had an idea how to approach this, but you made it much better to understand with your instructions. Now the work begins - lol! (FWIW, I used the repair as a negotiation point to lower the price. I should have allowed for more $$$, but I am OK with the deal as I bought it knowing the issue)
Thank you for sharing, I didn’t know this about Winnebago, I I am in the process of buying a Class A model 29 NPF! Now I am going to be thinking about it before I buy one! Thank you for the heads up, appreciate it. 🙏
After watching one of your previous videos on Winnebago roofs, i resealed my entire 2006 Journey.... Took 2 days, But glad its done...thanks for a great video
You just saved us. 2006Journey 36SE or SG the sticker is different. I am so happy I found your channel. You have helped me tremendously. I've always owned a seasonal spot in Port Clinton on Lake Erie. 2 years ago, I sold my boat and the park model and purchased this Winnebago. after seeing this video, I checked my roof and yep, the radiuses on both sides need to be resealed. also, the shower skylight is cracked and rotted some wood. all my vinyl is separating from the ceiling. I'm just vacuuming the foam down and gluing it to the wood It's been fun. It doesn't look to bad, I guess. There is not a heck of a lot of research on that one. I think this will get us by. we loved that Tiffin you just shot a few weeks that's for sale. Thanks again I will forever watch your channel.
After watching this video I inspected my roof and sure enough the seals were bad. I used my multitool to clean the channel. You must use great care as the multitool would eat the fabric roof in a heartbeat. It was very fast and efficient allowing me to clean the channel with little effort. I found that if I used a cap from the Heng product to run down the channel after the first application, the Proflex would sink into the channel and fill it letting me apply a second coat and be done with it. Thanks so much for the great video.
Want to thank you for all the advice in this video tackled it on my own including repainting turned out awesome side note used a DeWalt vibratory multi-tool with a harbor freight scraper blade and took the caulk off very easily from the roll side down something you might want to try to add to your tool bag thanks for all the help watch your videos like religion thanks again
I purchased a winnebago outlook and found james rite after purchase on TH-cam...i am thankfull i did because my roof was worse than this one. I took about a full week everyday to redo and seal up my roof. I did completely remove all the factory silicone and clean it bare and choose to use self leveling lap sealant around everything but did use the the same as james on the radius...this man truely is a godsend!!!
Wow That's a major thing to know. Thanks again for all your wisdom. Still haven't found our problem yet. Been down since middle of January. Just believe it's electrical.
Finally found that self leveling silicone at my local camping world. It's weird, though, that if you try to find it anywhere online (including camping world) it shows unavailable or backordered.
James’ videos are great for RV’ers like myself who recently purchased a ‘17 Winnebago Vista. I wouldn’t have bought it if I wasn’t confident in doing 95% of repairs myself. This channel really makes that happen. Sure enough my radius sealants needed attention. I completed this job myself solely because of his guidance. It’s reassuring knowing how these work and being able to address issues that pop up. Thank you sir!
So glad you told us about switching from Manus to Proflex...I had no idea that stuff turned to powder like that. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos for us! They are very helpful.
great video Im heading out to check our winnebago voyage right now. Man I get more nervous about owning a used rig everytime I watch one of these lol. Thanks much James
Great video and information. I am in Vegas and I would drive to you when repairs are needed. I feel you are one of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. Thanks for great and easy to follow videos.
Thank you for your service for those who are unable to get up there. It seems that seal will lead not to roof problems because it allows water down below the roof line. You might still have an ok roof but walls rotted out. Amazing that they tuck it in and seal. This means that overlapping the exterior wall and fastening is either too expensive is too expensive to replace if ever needed, or both. The tucked roof, despite the required perfect seal, may allow for easier replacement due to other damage that is common.
Great refresher James. Appreciate it. Was looking at a beautiful Winnebago Tour DP at a local dealer for possible purchase and utilized the inspection process shared in your videos. I found the exact problem shared here, including the roof spider-cracking at the corner from an unknown overhead strike. When I shared these anomalies with the sales rep, he had no idea of the installation process Winnebago uses. I explained the issues as well as the solutions, stating whoever buys the coach ought to have full-disclosure if their shop chooses not to do so pre-sale. The coach sold about a week later, so I am thinking they chose not to address the problems. Won't be going back there to buy a coach
@@AZExpert I’m about halfway through resealing our new to us 99 Glendale golden falcon. She was stored in a garage since 99 only used twice a year. It has never been resealed! Thanks to you I know that dicor and pro flex exist and how to use them 😎 Thanks for all of the knowledge you share with us. It’s easy to see you actually care about what you do, not just going through the motions.
As an insurance adjuster, I echo his disclaimer on maintaining your roof seals. If it’s a loss due to bad seals or neglected maintenance, it’s usually not covered.
James, could you do a video that looks at the different types of adhesives and self-leveling and non-leveling cap sealants and where each is used? It's very confusing.
I have a 2015 Adventurer...it's out of the sun when not being used . Did reseal one time , all is looking good . I inspect every 6 months. I used blue tape to keep a clean line.
👍 Thanks for the reminder and great job as usual. I just don't understand why Winnebago keeps on doing what they are doing when everybody including insurance companies knows how poorly it's designed and is prone to failure.
My radius has come out on both sides of 2001 Brave. I think the roof shrunk? There is literally no existing sealant to remove... but it will make the job easier. Thanks for showing us how to do this.
Ha! Guess what? After I cleaned the roof I found that my 2000 32V Winnie with 26,000 miles has loose seams! Glad I saw this video. Off for some pro-flex, blades and spray!
I just did this on the 2015 Brave I bought. I bought it aight unseen in Arizona, flew out and drove it 2200 miles home to Buffalo. The Manus Bond did turn to powder, but someone tried to fix it by using cheap white silicone. If it was just manus bond I would have had the transition cleaned out and re sealed in less than an hour (I’m an RV tech as well) but it took me nearly 3 hours to clean out all the silicone and re seal it. I debated using pro flex which I use on just about everything, but went with the Manus Bond for this application, it’s easier to remove in a few years when I have to do it again, and I would if I used pro flex too. As it tends to crack.
As before, you have demonstrated the importance of doing a n inspection of the Radius Seal on Winnebago RV. I would check the condition of this area on every RV I looked at.
Great video!! I have a 2002 Itasca sunrise, and yes my edge seal is completely gone. The question is, it appears that maybe some air got under it and lifted the roof. Because for about a foot from The edge it appears to be loose, i am not sure what to do about that. Should I try and lift it up and get some adhesive under there or just re-seal the edge?
I dug all of the crap out on ours. Silicone was most of what someone used. I bought the stuff Winnebago used. I put the tip of the caulk down in and filled it up
Hey James nice job again 3 years ago I did a reseal on my travel trailer with Sika flex the stuff looked great for about a year then started to discolour and looked like crap I went back to using pro flex which I used to previously just wanted to try something different 👍
Just bought a used new to us 2015 Winnebago Brave 27B in excellent condition. After a long drive we made it to California. For the first time I noticed a small puddle of water on the dash. It was dripping down from the ceiling/front compartment area about an inch from the windshield. There was no rain at all. Note we have been through a couple of heavy rains and no leaks. When I looked on the roof after noticing the puddle there was a little puddle against the front cap seal where the AC appeared to drained to. Im thinking after a very bumpy 4 day cross country trip maybe the seal was compromised. Does this sound right to you? Is there anywhere else I should suspect? The side seals need to be resealed but the roof looks good otherwise. Really enjoy your channel.
Great video because I'm getting ready to that service on mine. I wish I could find someone to fix my electrical problem here in NC. When plugged in to a outlet I have full power to all outlets until the Air conditioner shuts off the I loose power to all outlets.
I’m thinking you speaking about a roof endorsement added onto the RV policy? Good idea. I scraped out the old Winnie radius sealant and used Henry Co 884 100% silicon roof sealant from HD. Seems good, after watching one of your earlier shows. Keeping a eye on it. They have a clear not sure the #.
whelp its for sure:-( I need to do this to my roof. I guess I should be happy that I found it. Is there any reason I am not thinking of that I should not do this job from up on the roof? I dont have a scaffold. Thanks again
Howdy my Wife and I own a 2015 40’ ForeTravel Nimbus and it’s been a very good coach so far. Are there areas that stand out such as the roof or other areas on its exterior I need to keep an eye on? I have it checked quite often by an RV service center but I doubt they your have your expertise and we don’t need any surprises until it’s to late and I respect your opinions. I have watched you for quite sometime now and I am very impressed with the preventive measures you take towards prolonging the life of RV’s regardless of type or dollar value. Yes my wife and I own an fairly expensive RV but we sold our boat to get the money to purchase it so we try to give it the same treatment we would our boat that we had. Boats as you know are very expensive to operate and maintain ours was a 2014 52 ‘ Hatteress that with age and ours it just became to costly to maintain and time consuming after years of owning it. At our ages of 73 we can’t afford to overlook issues that you might have knowledge of and in my opinion your knowledge and experience is priceless. If your not able to respond I understand after all I realize your very busy. Thank You
That looks a lot like the way the roof to sidewall on our 2004 Neumar Kountry Star. Needing to reseal ours. Would this procedure / sealants work on our coach??
My 2001 Winnebago Brave 35C has roofing pulling out at the roll at extrusion rail. Can I clean gunk out and spray adhesive all the way down and reattach?? Insurance won't cover older rv's here in Arizona!! I'm not afraid of the work involved. Wish I would have found you before I bought this rig!! Excellent video's!!!
The link goes to Amazon but they aren't selling the sealer now. Will anything else work even for a temp fix please? Leak Stopper Rubber Flexx Flexible Sealant? Wet Patch Roof Leak Repair? Henry Tropi-Coat Roof Sealant? The last one says ponding water resistant, excellent adhesion, Superior UV resistance, weathering performance, no hardening chalking or cracking temperatures from 35 to 120°.
I have a question. In your video, you said don't use silicone on a Winnebago roof. Yet you used the self leveling silicone on the cap. Am I missing something? Or were you referring to, don't use silicone in the side channels? Love your videos by the way!
Thanks. Our 2000 Chieftain is due for this. Can I use the proflex around the windows also the frames are metal. Thanks for your help. Your channel is a Wonderful resource 🙂
James, I am in the process of purchasing a 2018 Minnie Winnie 25b. The roof will definitely need to be resealed bc I am going to be living in it most of the time. I wondered about a couple of things. You are suggesting to use Proflex to seal gaps on Winnebago roofs. I watched a different youtube guy just today that said never use Proflex on a Winnebago roof. He said it's fine to use on windows and doorframes, but bc there is usually silicone sealant on the roof of Winnebagos, that Proflex and silicone do not bond, and for that reason, he said to not use it on Winnebago roofs. Idk anything about it, and I honestly think you are more the expert here, so I just thought I'd ask since I am such a newbie and have to seal my new roof as soon as I get it! Second question. Do you ever seal an entire winnebago roof (as in my minnie winnie 25b) using Crazy Seal or RV-Armor or any products like that, that, once painted in a solid coat across the top, leave a solid rubber seal over the entire roof? I wanted to get your opinion on that as well. Thank you! I wish you were closer to the east coast! Ok I so have one more question. It's about the tape called Eternabond. Is that something I should line around anything on the rooftop before painting on Crazy Seal (I want to know the best method for DIYers please). TY!!
I have roof delaminating on the roof of my 2008 Itasca Ellipse. It’s located mid-coach on the right side and a small are on three left. We’ve planned a longer trip starting in June of this year. Can you please give me advice on what to do? The coach was outside in the below zero temp last week and will this raised are go down in warmer temps enough to stabilize the bulge ?
I have a 2022 Winnebago Vista. 16 months old, and live on Arizona. My edge seal on the radius is intact but has some cracks. More like surface cracks. Can I reseal over it with the Geocell sealant, or do I need to remove the old sealer? Thank you
Great video. Can I ask you with this interlocking system does the roof have metal joist or anything running from passenger wall to driver wall? I ask so I can mount solar panels or mount something to ceiling from inside for support.
I am look at a 2006 Itasca Meridian 34 - made by Winnebago - and they advertise the "interlocking" roof joint. Is this the same as the problematic Winnebago roof joint?
James, I love watching your videos. Your thoroughness impresses me and reminds me of the way I try to do things-110%. I have a 2012 Winnebago Vista. I am presently staying in Pensacola Fl. There in their rainey season until Feb. I want to reseal my edges. What temp should I wait for and how many days to do the job and wait for cure should I need (I’ll add a few to be safe) Bruce
Really enjoy your videos. We have a sunova and have had issues with the side sealing. I was wondering if I used butyl tape and filled with that if it would last longer or even work. Thanks for any thoughts you have on this.
Dear AZ Experts, I am the proud new owner of a 2005 Winnebago Journey 32T and I followed your advice and instruction on inspecting and maintaining the radius seal. It came out beautifully! But here's what I have other concerns. During my inspection I also noticed some stress cracks on or along the radius. My question is, How do I go about taking care of that? I've been doing some research and I've seen some folks use Flex Seal or Dicore Signature (silicone based) to basically paint their roofs. Is this process something you would recommend? And what product is best to tackle this issue? I appreciate any and all the help I can get! Sincerely, Nick
Jim I enjoyed the explanation of this issue. I just bought an 06 adventurer 35A now I know how to do this job with confidence. I'm curious why on the cap where you put the self leveling cauk I didn't see any on the radius it goes down on the curve. Is that gonna be OK and it won't leak? Just leave it dry? Ty again for your professionalism and making these videos. I liked and subscribed 😎
Awesome video and much needed as mine looks just like one in the video. One Q? How long do I have between application of the Proflex and coming back and wiping off the excess? It must have been 1/2 hour or so even with the scaffolding?
I am the owner of this RV and I live over 300 miles from James' location. That being said, I would literally limp in to wherever James is to have him get me on the road again. I have the utmost respect for him and confidence in his work! Thanks again for a job well done James.
Word!
Where is he please? We're in a pickle and it's just like this video! Thanks.
Hey, Thanks for the vote of confidence! I appreciate it!
James helped me with my Winnebago last year with a basement ac issue. I fixed it with his help and it has been working great ever since.
I agree !!! And that's a very nice compliment ...
He does know his stuff!
Kudos to James!

it's a very unique build they haven't changed in 25 years

Good lord James, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
No joke it’s been hot!! 🥵
It's pretty awful
Thank you for the tip on tooling the pro flex! What a time saver while still allowing a nice clean finish.

Very very important and informative. Cause I am looking at buying a Winnebago.
I have a 2015 Adventurer...it's out of the sun when not being used . Did reseal one time , all is looking good . I inspect every 6 months. I used blue tape to keep a clean line.
Thanks for the comment
Heading out for my ladder right now! 👍🏻
lol
Awesome video jammed packed with info. Thanks for all of the effort you put in to share these high quality videos with the RV'ing community.
thanks!
👍 Thanks for the reminder and great job as usual.
I just don't understand why Winnebago keeps on doing what they are doing when everybody including insurance companies knows how poorly it's designed and is prone to failure.
Comment for the algorithm: As always James, thanks for posting.
Thanks for that!
I always learn something, thank you for educating the masses
So nice of you
My radius has come out on both sides of 2001 Brave.
Nice work and excellent advice. I think I might avoid Winnebago and that myopic roof design altogether.
Fair enough!
Thanks for the info!
I use pro flex all the time for interior and exterior sealing.
thanks for the comment
Not 'just Glass Cleaner', but the 'Worlds Best Glass Cleaner'
No ammonia I believe , but I could be full of it also
@@kenj.8897 That looks correct. www.spraywayinc.com/sites/all/themes/theme687/msds/sw050.pdf
I have learned so much from watching your videos. Thanks
Glad to hear it! Same!
I just did this today to my 40 ft. I used much more proflex than James does.
As before, you have demonstrated the importance of doing a n inspection of the Radius Seal on Winnebago RV. I would check the condition of this area on every RV I looked at.
Thank you for providing insight on this🙏🏽
You are Appreciated. I will share this video with my friend who has a 2012 vista. Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thanks for sharing!
@@AZExpert Yessssr 👍🏾 You're welcome.
Another great job
I appreciate that
I dug all of the crap out on ours.
Good to know
Good job Mr " don't use Silicon". Another safe roof....
Silicone has its uses
What would cause Proflex to stay gooey, and not cure even after almost a week?
Yeah I had the same problem. I don't know why he's not responding because it did not adhere to the gutter
I wish I knew what to look for before I brought a Winnie and the proper materials. I had a class c and the front window leaked during the first rain.
Yikes
Great video because I'm getting ready to that service on mine. I wish I could find someone to fix my electrical problem here in NC. When plugged in to a outlet I have full power to all outlets until the Air conditioner shuts off the I loose power to all outlets.
Electric problem fixed
I’m thinking you speaking about a roof endorsement added onto the RV policy? Good idea.
I scraped out the old Winnie radius sealant and used Henry Co 884 100% silicon roof sealant from HD. Seems good, after watching one of your earlier shows. Keeping a eye on it. They have a clear not sure the #.
Good to know
whelp its for sure:-( I need to do this to my roof. I guess I should be happy that I found it. Is there any reason I am not thinking of that I should not do this job from up on the roof? I dont have a scaffold. Thanks again
Outstanding video!
Thanks!
Wow, thanks James, did not know that. I am stopping the video right now and going outside to check my Vista 30T, 2013...be back shortly..
Good, mine is ok... stored inside when not used,,
Glad to help
I think stored out of the sun is the only way to go . Our 2015 Adventurer roof is in great shape, I have reseal it once , and check it often.
Excellent how to video
Glad it was helpful!
Great info and excellent job...
Glad it was helpful!
So, the only thing on that radius that's holding in is the adhesive? Any good to do some type of mechanical attachment like screws?
I have a question. In your video, you said don't use silicone on a Winnebago roof. Yet you used the self leveling silicone on the cap. Am I missing something? Or were you referring to, don't use silicone in the side channels? Love your videos by the way!
Wow-great video.
Thanks!
Thanks. Our 2000 Chieftain is due for this. Can I use the proflex around the windows also the frames are metal. Thanks for your help. Your channel is a Wonderful resource 🙂
Can I or should I be able to go over the old stuff with a thin layer of that proflex or similar type caulk? not silicone.
Thank you
Would'nt securing the capseal with a rivet or screw solve the "roof blowing off" problem?
My 2002 Itasca Horizon has no sealer at all in this location. Did it all come out or was it never applied at the factory?
Great video. Can I ask you with this interlocking system does the roof have metal joist or anything running from passenger wall to driver wall? I ask so I can mount solar panels or mount something to ceiling from inside for support.
Excellent!
Thanks for watching! :)
I am look at a 2006 Itasca Meridian 34 - made by Winnebago - and they advertise the "interlocking" roof joint. Is this the same as the problematic Winnebago roof joint?
James,
I love watching your videos. Your thoroughness impresses me and reminds me of the way I try to do things-110%.
I have a 2012 Winnebago Vista. I am presently staying in Pensacola Fl. There in their rainey season until Feb.
I want to reseal my edges. What temp should I wait for and how many days to do the job and wait for cure should I need (I’ll add a few to be safe)
Bruce
Follow the product instructions as best you can.
Just had my Winnie roof inspected and was told it was good but a friend spotted this issue while watching my ac drip 🤦♂️
Very informative- thanks!
You are welcome
Really enjoy your videos. We have a sunova and have had issues with the side sealing. I was wondering if I used butyl tape and filled with that if it would last longer or even work. Thanks for any thoughts you have on this.
Dear AZ Experts,
I am the proud new owner of a 2005 Winnebago Journey 32T and I followed your advice and instruction on inspecting and maintaining the radius seal.
Sincerely,
Nick
Jim I enjoyed the explanation of this issue. I just bought an 06 adventurer
35A now I know how to do this job with confidence. I'm curious why on the cap where you put the self leveling cauk I didn't see any on the radius it goes down on the curve. Is that gonna be OK and it won't leak? Just leave it dry? Ty again for your professionalism and making these videos. I liked and subscribed 😎
self leveling will just pour down over the edge on the radius and the geocel is used on the radius
What about putting EternaBond on all those seams once you have sealed them?
How long did it take you to complete both sides? I am going to be doing this very soon and need to figure out how much time to plan for the process.
Awesome video and much needed as mine looks just like one in the video. One Q? How long do I have between application of the Proflex and coming back and wiping off the excess? It must have been 1/2 hour or so even with the scaffolding?
Great job! Thanks
most welcome
