Hi everyone - wow winter van life can be a challenge - hope you enjoy the video - Have you experience crazy cold weather on your travels - let us know in the comments would love to hear your experiences Chris & Marianne xx
I am in North Dakota, in Minot. You should stop by here and have a look at The Scandinavian Heritage Park, old Viking Church and Houses. You can be my guests for a traditional Scandinavian dinner, hot shower and plug into my van spot. I have electricity in my car park here :-) I will email you my number.
The Hawaii flag. In the days of King Kamehameha I, he worked closely with the Royal Navy. That is why the British flag is incorporated. I'm just a Hawaii girl living the Texas life. 🤠🤙🏼🌺
From Wikipedia: "The inclusion of the Union Jack of the United Kingdom is a mark of the Royal Navy's historical relations with the Hawaiian Kingdom, particularly with King Kamehameha I. It is the only US state flag to include a foreign country's national flag." Interesting!! Crazy Horse is such an amazing project! I remember visiting in the late '70s; they had only just completed the tunnel under his arm. In 2037 I'll be 67 years old! 😱
It can't be for Captain Cook. When the Brits came back and demanded Cook's body, the Hawaiians could only produce a few bones. Sorry, he was the main course. Mark Twain said the Hawaiian story of Captain Cook was the best example of justified homicide he had ever run across.
We visited Mount Rushmore Crazy horse, and the general South Dakota area many years ago. We returned to Mount Rushmore in the evening for the Sunset Ceremony which was so emotional.
Hi guys , my husband is from Australia , and has been in the states for16 years. And the first time the pipes froze in our trailer he couldn't believe it. Keep up the great work. Lori
I hope you have found your way south for the winter. That was one of our early snowfalls and as a South Dakotan, I can assure you that if that tiny snowfall and brisk weather froze your pipes, you do not want to be anywhere close to South Dakota in January and February. Enjoy your travels and thanks for visiting us in South Dakota!
Ive never lived in a van but I have camped for months at a time, always kept a bottle of vodka and water mixed to do the dishes, cleans and sterilizes them :)
Re the Hawaiian flag: The Hawaiians saw Captain Cook's ship and he was flying the UK flag...The Hawaiian King at the time like it so much he put it on the Hawaiian flag, even though Hawaii was never "owned" by the British.
We normally try to avoid the winter weather and are moving fast to stay ahead of it as much as we can - but due to waiting for parts in Canada - we are about 6 weeks behind !! But we will keep rolling and heading south 👍
Well always good to see you and thank you very much for sharing all your videos I miss you guys I was watching you a lot when you were in Turkey please go back to Turkey everybody loves you in turkey❤
Great video! I visited that area both Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain in September 1986, and I am amazed at the progress they have made at Crazy Horse Mountain! Just an FYI... when the first American explorers "Lewis and Clark" traversed west along the Missouri river and north to South Dakota, they were stranded in the Dakotas because of the blizzard & sub-zero conditions. Lewis and Clark can thank the local native American tribes whom they stayed with during that winter for their survival! Be careful and guard against your antifreeze freezing up in sub-zero conditions, you don't want a busted radiator tank that would be a disaster! Stay safe!
Living life in my camperish sprinter van for 5 years now thank the lord I have a diesel night heater 😳 no roof insulation or windows , I’m truly stealthing it .-2 tonight winter has definitely landed just outside Heathrow, BIG thank you for sharing Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse 🐎 ❤ god bless you 🇬🇧🍀👍🙏
Crazy Horse was killed while being held as a prisoner at Fort Robinson Nebraska. It is now a State Park with really nice campgrounds a lot of the buildings have been restored. You can actually rent serval of them to stay in. For more information and history of Fort Robinson you can look online.
We've been to Rapid City a few times as we had extended family there. Have been to Mt. Rushmore in the actual monument like you both just went to. Also drove past Crazy Horse monument but did not go in. Will do so next time. Custer State Park's wildlife drive is the best! Burro donkeys (friendly ones), prairie dogs, pronghorn, deer, ducks, and of course the bison! So sorry about your pipes. Awful! Glad nothing burst as sometimes does happen.
Hello Ambassadors Wow, what a night and day. Snow...freezing temps. Poor Trudy. The girl had her eyes covered with snow. 😂😂 Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse ( the story was great). Thanks again bringing all these sites to us or taking us there with you. Thank you folks. Let me say this, If I knew that the snow is coming, I would keep on going out it's way. Getting stuck on a highway is not fun🥵🥵🥵. I have gone through Indiana once. Not fun at all. Stay safe. Winter tires.. I trust Marianne's driving👏👏👏👏👍👍Love from Florida 💕💕💕🇹🇷🇹🇷
Thank you for introducing me to the Crazy Horse memorial! I had no idea about it. I am delighted to learn about it and his story. I'm googling it now. This is why I love your videos, I always learn about new things. Stay awesome and look after each other. Friday xx
Living in southern Manitoba, that is what we call a small skiff of snow. It’s a harbinger of what’s to come. Almost -45 degrees Celsius with the wind chill this week! Hopefully, you’re in warmer climates now!
Oh no - we currently have snow- bitterly cold in London so I can feel your pain with frozen pipes. And thank you for showing us Crazy Horse who is a legend- respect for all Native Americans. Just his face on the side of the mountain is iconic xxx
It is nasty cold in most of the Northern U.S. in winter. Sorry about that. Come to FL. (Or any part of the South). My windows are open and it is December. The weather there looks horrible. I cannot believe it got so cold. -10. You surely got bad weather. I hope you have a good heater in the van. Bummer. Wish you were here so you could do the "washing up" in my huge sink (or better yet the dishwasher). Oooh veggie soup sounds good. Gonna make some.
My last big journey was over a month long road trip starting at Mt Ranier in Seattle, up to Vancouver, across Canada, down thru the Dakotas, leaving off in Chicago and returning home. I was replaying my experiences late summer, off season, but not as late as you, along with watching yours in this video. Great fun!
Hi Chris and Marianne, We drove cross country in winter, from west to east. When we knew we could get ahead of a snow storm, we'd drive. If we thought we couldn't, we hunkered down in a hotel and we were glad we did. We only needed a hotel twice for a couple of days each on the whole trip but...had we driven, we would have been in trouble. I'm not sure where you are now but...there's a pretty big storm system headed for the Dakotas/Minnesota/Plains States on about Monday/Tuesday with snow and big winds. The winds are a huge problem both for the windchill factor and blowing snow that reduces visibility. Keep a close watch on the weather my friends and be safe. Suzi
it's a bit chilly out their today. good job the heating did not pack up. great views from mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. bet you will be happy to get to warmer climates. happy camping🙌
We've only just started seeing frost in the midlands uk the first time yesterday 🥶, adding the old scarf and gloves to go out now. Grab your hot water bottles and stay warm guys. ❤👍
A top tip for keeping your gray water tank from freezing is to pour some winter window washer fluid into the tank. The alcohol in it will keep the tank from freezing. 🚐🇫🇮
I admire you guys. The only places I would go for the winter are the Caribbean and South America as their seasons are opposite to ours. I don’t like snow or ice. I got used to live in Florida 😂😂😂
Great vid, love that whole area of the USA, Deadwood being my favourite place in the whole world, With Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany a very close second! Oh thanks for the name check at the post office👍
Aw, I'm so happy to see yall visiting and enjoying the brutal winter, and makes me miss the state even more now lol(just moved away), but yall should check out the black hills in the summer/fall, but best wishes and luck in your travels, and keep safe and warm!
Well, in a way, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were British by birth in the American British Colonies. So in a roundabout way, it is British History.
Just came across your channel. Are you heading east or south? I would suggest South. 😄 We live by sioux falls,SD. Winters can be brutal. I hear Wyoming is brutal with the open areas and wind.
Head down to Arizona by January so that you can go to the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR). I have a feeling you will love it. To learn more, visit the CheapRVLiving channel. :)
Hello Friends . . what a great adventure seeing Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse . . hope you 2 stay snug as a bug and are able to travel safely onwards happy trails 👣 take care ❤️🙋♀️🥰🎄🎅🎁❄️
Did you see the marker in Belle Fourche, SD for the geographical center of the U.S.A. ? In Rugby, North Dakota is the geographical center of North American continent. Great video!
When you were in Cody, WY, had you gone to the Plains Indians Museum, you would have seen some absolutely amazing bead work and Porcupine quill work that is beyond belief. Sadly, you didn't have time for that stop. I went to see Crazy Horse Monument in 1995, and it looks like not too much progress has occurred, at least in profile. Try leaving the cabinet doors under your sink open to allow the heat to enter the cabinet and help reduce freezing. Keep ahead of the storms y'all, and stay warm.

Everybody’s getting snow 25 years ago that’s funny. Yes life changes daily
The Hawaii flag. In the days of King Kamehameha I, he worked closely with the Royal Navy. That is why the British flag is incorporated. I'm just a Hawaii girl living the Texas life. 🤠🤙🏼🌺
Hey - I googled it and that is exactly what it said !! Thanks for sharing 🌺
Winter in South Dakota ? Oh no , Burr..so glad you didn't stay long .

Marianne buy an old blanket or comforter from a charity shop to put over the door. Really makes a difference.
The flag with the British Union Jack is for the state of Hawaii. It's for Captain Cook who was the first European explorer to visit the islands.
It can't be for Captain Cook. When the Brits came back and demanded Cook's body, the Hawaiians could only produce a few bones. Sorry, he was the main course. Mark Twain said the Hawaiian story of Captain Cook was the best example of justified homicide he had ever run across.
After washing, just pour down the sink some windshield washer so that line won't freeze.
Great tip !!
Thank you for visiting and talking about Crazy Horse...such an important part of american history which is so often avoided.
Take care
Wow
Mt Rushmore and Crazy horse looked amazing
Stay warm
We visited Mount Rushmore Crazy horse, and the general South Dakota area many years ago. We returned to Mount Rushmore in the evening for the Sunset Ceremony which was so emotional.
You could get a thick curtain to put over the door to stop the draughts coming into the van

George Washington was part of British history…a major part.
if you put heater on altitude setting it uses 1 litre in around 7 hours.(chinese diesel) but you could have a propex so i wouldnt know the gas rate.
Thanks Benny - we have both a propane and a diesel heather - so we have a back up if one breaks 👍

Uh, no. It was sold to the US under Thomas Jefferson's administration as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Way before the gold rush. 🤦♀
