Piccolo always has some of the best fights. It's just he's always one step behind the power he needs until orange made him him again
The best fights are when the two combatants are around equal footing and Piccolo fights are nearly all consistently that.

The fighting scenes go by so quickly but these make me realize how well choreographed these fights really are
Dragon ball and DBZ had amazing choreography, even a simple fight like Goku vs burter and jeice had amazing choreography
It's one of the main reasons older anime are held in a somewhat higher regard than some newer anime fights. True they still took shortcuts with various animation loops and dust clouds but they put in a lot of effort to make things seem visceral. Obviously some newer anime blow this out of the water though like One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100, Boku no Hero, some Bleach and One Piece but choreography is the root of great fight animation.

The guy during the frieza saga woke up, binged martial art films, and then drew dragonball. For hours!
He didn't just do his research, he went to the next level.
Not to mention the fact of how many frames these fights take just to take up a few short seconds goes to show how much more love and effort was put into Z than Super

I love piccolos fighting style. Something about it. Wd, Piccolo is just an aggressive monster in the way he fights, he really abuses that 7 foot tall height and his giant body. The way he fights reminds me of OG dragon ball

Ooo I like this approach. This is a versatile format for Anime fights scoring it like a boxing match. Also going frame by frame like you're doing you're doing something no other analysis does which is actually looks at quirks in a characters fighting style. Never would have thought about Piccolo doing upclose kiblast for a body shot as a part of his skill set without this.
I'd love to see a Goku vs Perfect Cell or Goku vs Majin Vegeta down the road! Love these videos

3:00 Gosh! THIS is what's sorta missing from a lot of stories nowadays, I feel. These details, from being Aggressive yet Responsible, the Elbows he throws, the way he uses Ki blasts and Abilities to set up rather than for damage, all of it just solidifies his character, to the point that if we just put up a mannequin and animated him fighting like Piccolo, we'd know it was emulating Piccolo!

So cool seeing these fights broken down like this. Everyone jokes about DBZ just being powerups and giant beam battles, but going blow by blow shows that there really is some solid choreography going on.

You have to appreciate the animation in these fights. When you stop to look at every single attack they were so meticulous and ultimately that is what adds up to make the fights so exciting. You don't realize it in the moment but your brain is subconsciously sensing these fine details and they keep you hyper focused on what's happening
