Agree 100%. I always use a knuckle spreader, which makes life so much easier. Also, not sure if others do it, but I'll put some antiseize on the strut so it slides in easier, and if the knuckle is old and rusty, lightly use a wire wheel to get rid of surface rust when putting the knuckle back on, of course, using the spreader bit as well.

In all these front bearing replacements when you whack out the hub the bearing inner race never seems to come out still attached to the hub shaft! Either your lucky or your just not showing the remove process (i.e. Jaw clamp extractor or the angle grinder and chisel method)
Thank you for the feedback! This video tutorial is considered to be an informative one, and it shows the principle of replacing the front wheel bearing, without going into all the technical nuances. Best regards, Autodoc.
Yeah, they forgot that gritty little detail. I'm part way through this work on my Audi TT (same chassis as shown here, just different body). I used an on-the-car puller set that I'm happy to say worked like a charm. I was able to remove and replace the bearings without removing the spindle from the strut. I will be doing that anyway, as I'll be replacing the struts, but as I do not have a press and it's not easy for me to get to a shop that has one, the $40.00 hub puller set was a great investment! Removing that race from the hub really sucked though...I had to grind away about 95% of the race's cross-section before it would move. I couldn't get it to crack with a chisel anywhere along the way. The ABS ring prevents you from using a bearing separator as well. I did put a few shallow nicks from my Dremel in the hub...I hope that won't compromise it.
the whole reason I was watching this video was because of that stupid ring near the inner reece & how to remove the damn thing got a video on that by any chance?
Outer tie rods must have been replaced prior to filming 2:44. They never come out that easy unless shiny. He didn't even need to hammer the ball joint, he actual touched it and it was already loose 3:54. I recommend removing the 3 13mm bolts front the control arm and not the ball joint unless its an R32 or TT. The only thing i can confirm true is when he hammered the wheel bearing with 1 strike. That wheel bearing was extremely worn out to come out that easy. And I know the wheel bearing failed shortly after completion of job because he reused the same hub. The hubs are pressed, and it takes much more than a light hammer tap to remove. I wish maintenance was this easy lol
Thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately, on each machine, the complexity of the replacement is individual, it all depends on the technical condition of the parts. Our videos are only informative in the sequence of replacement and to save time, we weaken some nodes earlier. Best Regards, Autodoc Team!
What is preventing the center nut from loosing? Other cars have a locking pin, this one (and mine) doesn't and it came a bit loose after about 6 months

When you're doing the reassembly, when inserting the strut base back into the hub, you risk damaging the CV boot the way its done in the video. My preference is to remove the strut and insert into hub off the car.
If the bearing is pressed into the hub and dismantled separately, then it is necessary to press out and then press on a new one. There are hubs in the assembled condition with bearings and the entire hub must be replaced and the bearing does not need to be pressed out.
I would've attached the brake rotor first before putting the caliper assembly on. Also, I don't think it's always good to impact on the nuts for the outer tie rods. When I've installed them on my car, I usually need to counterhold with both a box wrench and a hex bit. An impact might be nice for removal, but not necessarily for reinstallation. Otherwise, the video was a good refresher (haven't done this on an A4 in over a year).
I want to fit a new ABS ring that bolts to the wheel hub which fits inside the bearing. From the video it seems I should be able to remove the caliper, disc and hub nut, then using a slide hammer remove the wheel hub. Refitting the wheel hub should be a matter of tapping it back into the bearing, ensuring the hub/driveshaft splines are aligned. Is my presumption correct?
Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, it is not possible to answer your question for sure, you can probably find this information in the technical documentation for the repair of your car. Best Regards, Autodoc team
@@autodocuk Having researched the matter, I'm now aware the wheel hub will not pull out of the bearing inner without pulling the inner bearing race out. Thanks for the reply comment.

Does anyone know the exact sizes of plate used to push the bearing out? The total bearing diameter is 74mm but you only get about 70mm clearance at the back. I can see toolsets normally have a 71.5mm ring. Or it supposed to be 72mm?? Highly appreciate any info :)

Thanks for a very instructive video. I am doing this job now with parts from autodoc, but after installing the new bearing and the old hub I have noticed substantial amount of wobble when wrinkling the hub, holding it hub at 12 and 6 o’clock. Is that ok since I have not tighten up the hub nut yet? Or could it be that the bearing is not pressed in completely? The locking ring is in place. Help would be much appreciated
Draw the bearing according to our video tutorial; Сorrect mounting and tightening torque of the hub is also necessary. If you have any difficulties, we recommend contacting the service of your car. AUTODOC
If only every wheel bearing like this style was as easy as the way it’s shown, all new bolts, track rod end, and the hub flange which must be the most horrible bit of the job on any wheel bearing especially the Mk4 Golf with that ABS ring welded onto the flange, just makes removing the old bearing seat a.nightmare.. and no swearing was used either.. amazing.. !!!! Lol

In a world without rust! Must be nice. Every single nut and bolt is seized on my front end and the tie rod just spins and the Allen key insert at the bottom just stripped. This is definitely not a real world bearing replacement. I even have to grind off the three ball joint bolts as they won’t even come out with an impact. Not a chance in Heck of the top ball joint nut loosening with an open end spanner. Nice video for a perfect world. Lol

Thank you for your feedback! You are absolutely right - you need to tighten thread joints with a torque wrench only. You can already see it in our new videos, we included this, as well as all the torque values. Best regards, Autodoc.
There's a piece of bearing missing that always gets stuck in the center and that one is difficult to remove and they don't show it in the video. Too much hammering for my taste.
Lol that's the cleanest underside ever. Pretty unrealistic, should've shown a car with alot of miles under it where everything is frozen and you're pulling for an hour
Obviously this guy is unaware that VW use stretch bolts which should be replaced, an absolutely NO NO NO to using a rattle gun on the suspension bolts on this model. Wrong tools used right throughout the job and didn't even look like impact sockets on the rattle gun. Don't know where he got his training from, a law should be passed to prevent this type of butcher work that unsuspecting customers have to pay for.

@autodoc is there an orthodox way of removing the bearing without a press? As well as installing?
For those without a press machine, can the bearing be gently tapped in with a hammer and punch?
No
Torque wrench??? Replace old pinch bolts with new???
I want to fit a new ABS ring that bolts to the wheel hub which fits inside the bearing. From the video it seems I should be able to remove the caliper, disc and hub nut, then using a slide hammer remove the wheel hub. Refitting the wheel hub should be a matter of tapping it back into the bearing, ensuring the hub/driveshaft splines are aligned. Is my presumption correct?

Check the VWVortex or TDI forums for instructions.
Muy bien profesional
oh break disc was not with bolt. now i need to do this without hydraulic press. maybe i will produce press from 15Tons jack bottle or something into some steel frame
Thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately, we can't recommend another tool which would make it possible to replace it in conformity with safety regulations. You can contact Car Specialized Service. Best regards, Autodoc.
Does anyone know the exact sizes of plate used to push the bearing out? The total bearing diameter is 74mm but you only get about 70mm clearance at the back. I can see toolsets normally have a 71.5mm ring. Or it supposed to be 72mm??
Highly appreciate any info :)
Thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately, we can't specify this information. You can find it in the Repair Manual for your car. Best regards, Autodoc.

Он и не почистил амортизатор, гнездо и не смазал чтоб лучше зашло. И спорный вариант с выбыванием пальца .Некоторые предпочитает откручивать 3 болта.Но целом видео хороший.Спасибо и за то.

Draw the bearing according to our video tutorial;
Сorrect mounting and tightening torque of the hub is also necessary.
If you have any difficulties, we recommend contacting the service of your car.

If only every wheel bearing like this style was as easy as the way it’s shown, all new bolts, track rod end, and the hub flange which must be the most horrible bit of the job on any wheel bearing especially the Mk4 Golf with that ABS ring welded onto the flange, just makes removing the old bearing seat a.nightmare.. and no swearing was used either.. amazing.. !!!! Lol
Thank you for the feedback! This video is considered to be an informative one, and it shows the sequence of repairs, without going into all the technical nuances. Best regards, Autodoc.
Lol
Thank you for your comment.
We understand that sometimes on video the moments of dismantling are especially associated with threaded connections do not look reliable, however, to save time, we have to loosen them earlier so as not to waste a lot of time.

can you please a video of changing timing belt and water pump...thanks
Thank you for the feedback! We are currently working on creating a wider range of tutorials including the one you mentioned. Stay tuned and follow our latest updates. Best regards, Autodoc.
thank you doc..
He would wear safety glasses after he had a piece of something come out of that press.
Shaft splines, hub splines, 12p nut should all be lubricated with oil.
Thank you for the feedback! This video is considered to be an informative one, and it shows the sequence of repairs, so some stages of the repairs might have been excluded. Best regards, Autodoc.
You call this a tutorial? Bro, you missed to wedge open before removal from shock...and how did you remove the bearing inner race from hub?....and what about torque specs....and....and....you got the sack!!
Not one nut done up with a torque wrench. Especially important with the hub nut or your bearings will soon be knackered again pretty quickly!
Thank you for your feedback! You are absolutely right - you need to tighten thread joints with a torque wrench only. You can already see it in our new videos, we included this, as well as all the torque values. Best regards, Autodoc.
Music no dialogue makes great Video a bit of a joke
Thanks for watching the video. If you don't like the background music, please turn off the sound in the toolbar below.

There's a piece of bearing missing that always gets stuck in the center and that one is difficult to remove and they don't show it in the video. Too much hammering for my taste.
Thanks for the clarification, we'll think about what we can do with this in new videos.
I do it two times....now i rather go to servise shop
Lol that's the cleanest underside ever. Pretty unrealistic, should've shown a car with alot of miles under it where everything is frozen and you're pulling for an hour
Thank you for the feedback! We hope that our tutorial was helpful for you. Stay tuned and follow our latest updates. Best regards, Autodoc.
Step one: have a garage with proper tools including a hydraulic press.
Yeah just skip ahead past the struggle of getting the whole assembly back on...
One swing of the hammer knocked the hub out? I call bullshit!
Thank you for the feedback! We hope that our tutorial was helpful for you. Stay tuned and follow our latest updates. Best regards, Autodoc.
Well what if you don't have a fucking bearing press
If there is no special equipment, it is recommended to contact the service centre for replacement work.

It’s sad that this is how guys are working on people’s cars at shops to save time and over torquing components on people’s vehicles.
Thank you for your feedback, this video shows some mistakes, but we are working on improvement of the quality of replacementof the part. Due to your valuable advices, we know what needs to be improved and replaced. Best regards, Autodoc.
Buy new stretch bolts or new hardware. Once used those stretch bolts are shot. Reuse at your own peril!
lmao all things new u changed 1 hour later other things now u remove them easy
Nothing torqued up.. what about inner bearing removal? Etc etc yawn
Unfortunately, the complexity of replacement on each machine is individual, it all depends on the technical condition of the parts.
Our videos are for informational purposes only in the sequence of replacement and to save time we loosen some of the nodes earlier.
