Really nice video and all the data needed. Only missed some info on, what looks like a round (dust or dirt), I meant...not rust shield, and was removed by grabbing the wings of it, and twisting a few times using a pair of plyers. My so-called repair manual doesn't even have the torque information! Even less, part number info, and quality pictures. So, thanks a lot for showing how the job should be done 👍👍👍
Thanks for the step by step, I am planning on replacing my whole rear brake system on one of my Mk4s and this was prime! I have to say you went to all the trouble and didn’t clean up the rear carrier with the wire wheel… 🤦🏽♂️ Other than that looking good though. Can’t wait to refresh mine. I am upgrading to the larger brakes from the 20th anniversary (it’s a 20th clone build) so I’m pumped. I already have the calipers from a GLI and the matching oversized dust shields. I still need rotors and new pads while I’m in there. I’ll probably just get new stub axles too so I don’t have to remove the race.
@@Corysdiyauto yeah, the good news is once you replace all this dying stuff on these old beauties the car runs like new again… 💸 Thanks it’s been a very fun project! I have another daily mk4 that I am doing a manual swap on that I’ve refreshed most of it and is very reliable.

hello, good work thank you for sharing. As far as I know we change only the bearing there is no obligatiion to change the hub especially in the rear. Am I missing something?
That bearing race you removed why didnt you put a new one on? Genuine question do you need a new one? Im planning on doing this next week whole new rear end including axel, hubs, bearings, sensors the whole lot
I installed the new hub bearing with the race attached. When you pull the old bearing, the race gets stuck on the stub axle unfortunately. You'll see what I mean when you do the job.
You can search online for the torque specs. There's a wide variety of information out there for these cars. You can also get a Bentley service manual which includes the torque specs.
@@voitano73 I'm doing the job now and I agree with you since the hole for the dust shield is bigger than the stub axle hole. I just tried taking out the speed sensor and it felt like the sensor was welded to the stub axle. Luckily I'm replacing the stub axle since it is bent so I just bought another one. That being said the video was really good and I'm using it to replace my stub axle/bearing, etc..

No, unfortunately you can't do it unless you remove the hub. I wasn't too happy about that either. That's why I waited until my hubs went bad to replace the dust shields.

can you tell us the original part number for the 4 wheel bearing axel bolt please, i am searching but cannot find them. thank you, very great video !

Welcome!
What kind of screw/bolt was used to attach the dust shield? I don t find the right info for them.. Such length..
It's attached with the stub axle bolts. www.idparts.com/rear-wheel-stub-axle-bolt-set-a3b4a4-n90758901-p-1022.html
will a 6 inch spread gear puller be big enough or do you need 7 inch one
It might be fine. I used a 7" spread puller in the video which worked perfectly.
Why did you destroy abs sensor? It was not necessary to pull it out.
I had to since I wanted to remove the stub axle to replace the dust shield. If you are just replacing the bearing, then it's not necessary.
@@Corysdiyauto Speed sensor was mounted on that stub axle only , i think it can stay on.

Cory, is that a unique 30mm socket or just a regular one?
It's a regular 12 point 30mm socket.

@@modrisadijans383- There are different ways to remove the race and I chose to use the puller. The grinder and chisel work too.

do u have parts number for rear axle stub bolts?
The part number is N90758901.
Bro what happens if I don’t get new bolts, I’ve swapped the rear axel and used the old bolts
You should be fine. You're supposed to replace them with new ones each time because they "stretch" when being torqued.
11:12 bad tool i really try push it from this side
It was too badly corroded to move it. That's why I had to destroy the sensor to remove it.
Should have restored the caliper bracket, too.
You're right, I should have.

Or just replace them. They are typically not pricey.
I will eventually replace them.

So did I. Now they shine for another 20 years.

It should be, but I have never worked on a mk3 before so I can't say for certain.
