Loved seeing & hearing from you in all these videos Graham you’re looking awesome! I’m coming to WSM definitely going to try to meet you. You’re an inspiration brotha keep up the good work!
The more I hear graham talk the more I like him. Seems like a good man, great strongman, hope he gets after that powerlifting record. He’s got a good shot.
I have spoke to Hixxy online for years I remember when he was cutting to the 105 class and causing a major scene It was obvious to us that followed his journey how strong he is, especially statically. Honestly, his numbers at 105 where up there with many opens at the time He genuinely is a friendly guy and very humble. He's had a great career, but I think injuries has held him back some The guy has scary, scary static strength, just for any of you who don't know him Ps. Bonus fact, I remember him telling us on a forum how great a guy Brian was after WSM 2014 It's not surprising to me to see these guys get along. Great Podcast
Graham is capable of making the finals at WSM this year, and if things go his way he could be on the podium. That would be a nice feather in his cap. He could also be the best powerlifter ever by total if he throws his iron 100% into that fire. If he can do both, all the better for both sports to have him involved...
Awesome, Graham is an absolute gent have met him twice at expos where he does a.fine job promoting evolution athletes. Always happy to chat and Always smiling
Hundred percent respect to you Graham and the best of British to you are a true gent and an extremely strong athlete never doubt yourself or your capabilities
Heavy, light, fast, slow, I don't care about any of that because I saw the man to the left carry a 3/4 ton +65 pounds bale tote yoke 4 meters in 14.08 seconds and clearly showed me to be the strongest display of strength in an event of all events at any venue! I'll watch that to remind me of what "Strongest Man" truly represents!
Your point about the stone off is great. I reckon they could solve the 'effort' problem where guys like brian do the least possible to secure their spot in the final by giving out a cash prize to the best performance across all the groups on each event.
Great podcast. Fully agree on the Stone off. Shouldn't be a factor. It should just be the top 2 in the groups or have all the guys compete in the final.
I like having the 5 events in the heats cause the top guy is decided most of the time after 5 events so the 6th event was pointless only for the second play spot and the stone off still makes it happen.
Great to hear insight on the stone off from two competitors. Personally, I want the best strength contest that brings out the strongest man whether it be entertaining or not. A lot of sports favored entertainment over what was the best competitive and fair product for the athlete and the viewer. It is an interesting discussion to say the least. I hope strongman can stand the test of time and not cave in to being watered down by corporate greed like most sports.
Novikov is one of the lightest athletes yet he set the Hummer tire record at the Shaw Classic. Examples like this might help to get that correlation out of your head
Take away the heats/ qualifiers. As it was in the beginning. If you have 30 competitors. Everyone does the same 8-10 events. No more stone off. Make it heavy. As it was when Eddie was competing. I know they want everyone to finish. No they shouldn't. If everyone finishes or guys are 15-20 reps on an implements. Then it's too light. Make it wsm, not a stronger crossfit games. Super yoke should always be 1400 pounds and heavier. No lighter. Farmer's walk take the weight up and do away with frame carry. It's cool to see that Brian and hicks are on a similar journey right now. Hicks is a beast on every level. Shaw classic is the true wsm.
True WSM indeed, the top four from last year are heavy favorites going into any type of show no matter the line or events, from a strength perspective it goes : Shaw classic > Arnolds > Rogue > WSM. I hope Brian keeps the format as it is now because his eight events brutal comp is just perfect.
@simondean5227 I definitely dont want anyones career ended. They do 1100 now sometimes 1200. 1400 at the Arnold is where you seen a difference. But your right saftey is key. I think back to mark philipi. In the car flip. It crushed his knee. Lost his footing in the beach sand. Basically ended his strongman career. Very sad. So definitely have to make saftey first.
57:20 The contest being called "World's Strongest Man" is unfortunately nothing more than marketing. It's the same thing with the ASC too. Powerlifting is probably the closest thing to testing actual strength. Add an overhead press and a pulling event to powerlifting and you could determine the literal World's Strongest Man.
Well said Brian about the stone off and if you need anymore compelling argument about stones ask Derek poundstone. The greatest strongman never to win worlds strongest man
I think WSM should have the groups more for a convenience so the competition stage isn’t to crowded. Instead of top 2 of the each group advancing have overall top 10 advance. Imagine someone is good enough to win third, but they don’t advance because with their luck the eventual second and first place finishers are in their group.
Keep saying every year. Stone off should be taken off. Make it into a stone run or have power stairs, stone to shoulder. Something worth watching and gives the other athletes a chance
Seems like going into the stone off 5 points ahead of your opponent, your opponent should have to lift the stone 5 times in a row before the stone off starts to come even with you. That way all the work you put into the other events to build your lead still gives you some sort of advantage. If your opponent is great at stones and you're not, it definitely levels the playing field.
What's Graham's current weight? If he were to do Powerlifting, I think he could threaten the all time total, but he'd likely have to bulk up again and he just seems happier at a lighter weight, and is definitely a better strongman at a lighter weight. I wonder if he's within a reasonable cutting distance of 140kg; the total record there is 1117.5kg, so Graham would only have to add 18kg to his total to take that record, albeit at a lighter bodyweight than his last meet. If he wants to chase a powerlifting record, that could be more sustainable to being able to do strongman as well.
Mr. Hick’s, three events matter in strongman. Arnold’s, Rogue, Shaw Classic. Now build your brand with your powerlifting wife around them. The log pressing and deadlift records are worth keeping an eye on if prize money is there.
The stone off doesn't make better T.V. I know I watch to see who is best. If they want to use an event as a tie breaker. That's fine. But when the guy in 3rd that is 5 points behind makes the final. It's dumb.
Great podcast. Two really nice, top strongmen. Got to agree, get rid of the stone-off. I want 10 fresh (as much as possible) and rested athletes, not 5 rested and 5 having done a stone-off. Let's have a brilliant final
Brian: really really enjoy This podcast. Its really good, its great. I love to hear about the struggles and glory. Hicks: you are the type of Guy that everyone roots for But noone knows it. That Said with the upmost respect. Your static strength are off the charts, who can match it?
From the point of view of true strongman fans the Shaw classic is one of the best competitions. The sport has got lighter and where it's at the money isn't there to cover injuries if it got heaver in my opinion. However, it would be very cool to see a competition, such as a Shaw Static event, where it has only the static events and happened every 4 years, that way athletes can train fully once rather than every year
I’d love to see Graham take Thor and Bell to PL this year. Be a crazy trifecta plus more to challenge I’m sure Edit: didn’t realise he was wanting to do as only partway through the podcast 😂
Brian will you allow trans-woman to compete at the shaw classic like the Arnold's. If so do they have to cut it off to officially be a woman competitor. Sheeeit I might compete if so.
Thanks to everyone for watching and to Brian for having me x
You're the man Hicksy, hoping to run into you in Myrtle for a photo
Graham Hicks for the win! 💪 Powerlifting and strongman
Amazing to listen life stories and all around man!🤝
Loved seeing & hearing from you in all these videos Graham you’re looking awesome! I’m coming to WSM definitely going to try to meet you. You’re an inspiration brotha keep up the good work!
This was awesome
Graham is one of the nicest most soft spoken Strongmen
Hicksy is hugely underrated doesn't get talked about often
Grahame is the most underrated strongman in Europe. True man that puts family first and training a very close second. Great show brian

He'll make the final but come 7-8th but powerlifting he could genuinely break the record as long as his groin hold up for a 460+ squat
Grahams is a super cool down to earth guy amazing podcast

Great Episode!
Graham is a good guy and still has a few more titles in him!💪🏼
I remember competing against you in a few competitions,,,, I think if I remember my over head was a lil better than yours lol much respect mate
Love to see that confidence come back for Hicksy, great podcasts lads!

Saw A younger Graham in Total Fitness Lancaster glad to hear he is still motivated for years to come. All the best Big yin✌️
One and a half hours of my time well spent great podcast 🙏
Haha thanks pal
Good luck for WSM, both of you 🙏
Really enjoyed this, Great Listen and interesting to hear even some of the greatest have their own mental battles with thinking size is better.
Thank you good luck
Brian needs to bring on Mark Felix. It would be great to see 2 legends talk about their stories
Be good to see him do the blob grip test too.
@Jimmy P79 Mark will complete it without even trying, I think. His hands are so big
Mark isn’t exactly best spoken

1400 yoke has ended people's careers even monsters like big Z, I think 1200 is a safer weight while still being heavy.

Best interview so far. Can't wait to see you both at worlds this year!
Totally agree about stone off.
1:31:05 Graham Hicks not understanding pounds (versus kgs)... It's kind of funny when you realize pounds are English units of weight. :-)

Great podcast fellas!
Fantastic podcast 👍

Brian is right. It should not come down to parts of a second on a stop watch if it is called "worlds strongest man"
Well said Brian about the stone off and if you need anymore compelling argument about stones ask Derek poundstone. The greatest strongman never to win worlds strongest man
Graham Hicks for the win! 💪
You two should watch Australian Rugby League that’s still a man’s sport.
Can’t wait to see you compete live for the first time Brian at Myrtle Beach. I hope I get the opportunity to take a five second selfie with you lol.
Love the show! Gatta get something to hang over that socket tho lol. Maybe a shawstrength or EA logo.
