Sonic Boom the show is seriously one of the best Sonic shows there is. It's not great by any meaning of the term, but it's a riot if you know the in-jokes and accept that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. I do go back and watch episodes from time to time, the writers certainly put a lot of passion into it for being a kid's show.
I believe the reason why Knuckles is so stupid is because he was originally meant to be the comic relief character, but then everyone ended up being comic relief so he just became the really dumb one.
That "off the charts" joke reminds me of Ghostbusters: The Video Game when Egon says, "These readings are off the charts. Now I'll have to make new charts."
