- Marvin Kirchhofer produced an incredible display in the screaming V10 McLaren Solus GT to win the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed Timed Shootout. His winning time of 45.34 was a full second clear of the next fastest car.

Man, that car sounds and looks fantastic...
I was very much looking forward for this run. The last few remnant of the last era of automotive / Motorsport . Beautiful bodywork, exquisite ly glorious V10 sound, mind bogglingly quick around the track. But the spierling 39s run still lingering around in the back of mind. I still every now and then, go back to the video just to relive that moment of sheer speed. Unfakbelievably quick. Damn quick. Damnned.
I remember that episode of Top Gear when they ran the Renault F1 car around the track and compared old racers vs modern road cars. Clarkson joked that in 20 years you’d be able to buy a road car just as fast. He was actually right.
You can tell it is powered by a Judd V10 engine by the sound, it's amazing 😃😃😃😃

The Naturally aspirated Judd V10 was such a strange direction for McLaren, that is known in modern days for their Twin Turbo V8s, but I gotta say... I love it.
I'd love to see them release some cars based on different engines. A modern McLaren V12 for example would be amazing

Can’t go wrong with Judd anything.
Well it was a reason, N/A engine comparing with the turbos, there's no lack of response (turbo lag), of course is less efficient but however to compete turbo engines it'll be necesary two or more cylinders.
Also some V8 McLaren engines (turbos or N/A) still based to the Nissan 390 LM's engine, a twin turbo V8, the Group C car who still hasn't broken the speed record in Le Mans with 366km/h

Would have loved a Solus vs Valkyre shootout. Think the Solus would have won out. Yeah the shootout seemed odd this year as others have mentioned.

It’s because it’s track only so there isn’t any emissions restrictions/sound you have with road cars of today

McLaren should tinker with its design a little so they can enter this car into IMSA or WEC, it's a track-only car anyways and I don't see any impending FIA regulations which could hurt its chances of making it in

Wild how that pace is 4-6 seconds slower than the entire top 10 fastest at Goodwood.
It is around 0.7 tenths slower than the 10th fastest time, so I don't know why people agree with you - but it's 5 seconds slower than the McMurtry!
two of the F1 cars this year did silly burnouts instead of going full out for speed
@@Banjo56the F1 car was banned for a long time ago because it was dangerous. I think the last time it was running for timed attack was hekki kovalainen in McLaren back in 20's

Weird how a 1000kg track car single-seater with loads of aero that is not road legal and isn't a production car, and is on track, road illegal tires, is faster than a 2300kg GT car with 2 seats that's on regular Michelin PS4 tires. Really weird.

Amazing day out in general and saw some amazing cars, been coming since 2019 and haven’t missed a year since.
But this years Shootout was weird, it lacked structure, suspense and cars.
VGTs are the best 🥰
If you comp this time to the time Max did in that weird McMurtry car, this is more than 6 seconds slower on a ~45 second track.

The biggest issue about this car is the fanbase being so annoying. "Why Mcmurtry was not in the speed race"? "The Mcmurtry could surpass this". Man, c'mon, we already know it's fast (and boring), you don't need to be a annoying person because some things does not go as you like.
