- The Solus GT is the first Vision Gran Turismo car to become a reality. McLaren will be building 25 of them, priced at over £2.5 million each. Considerably more than the million credits they cost in the game.
The familiar twin-turbo V8 has been ditched in favour of a naturally aspirated V10 that revs past 10,000rpm and develops 840bhp. That 5.2-litre engine (it’ll need to be pre-warmed for an hour before driving) is used in different configurations for LMP2, and the Solus GT’s architecture is pure racer.
Obviously it’s not road legal. But outside of F1 it will be the fastest McLaren ever around a track, quicker than a 720S GT3X, Senna GTR or P1 GTR. All up it weighs well under 1,000kg and develops 1,200kg of downforce. There’s no active aero, just a socking great wing, front splitter and huge underbody tunnels.

The gran turismo cars are designed by the car manufacturers themselves, not the game developers.

We used to think the 90s were the pinnacle of super cars with the F1, CLK GTR, Porsche GT1, F40, 959, etc. But I think we’re arriving at a moment in automotive history people will look back on with similar awe and excitement. This thing, AMG One, Valkyrie, T.50, Huayra R, Jesko, the list goes on
I don’t really think so. The cars above have some uniqueness to them. Nowadays, I see the same car 25 times. It doesn’t look like a McLaren at all, it looks like a generic low number Hypercar
@@gamm8939 Sure, you can make the argument of design characteristics which is subjective, but from a groundbreaking performance perspective, there's really no argument.
i think time is running out for petrol cars which could be a small part why this is happening?
@@gamm8939 what you described though is very much what people said about more of those 90's cars back then most of them wasn't that loved back then either they were to much if just a racecar and so on... The love startet 10 year's later and just grew from there... Wanna comeback in 10 years and bet this is exactly the same the love will begin for this generation of these special few car's
I agree the hypercar segment is really exciting. Other sports cars; not so much. Turbo, hybrid, automatics; not my thing. I’ll keep buying older cars with hydraulic steering, mechanical throttle cables, NA, manual transmission

the most insane part of this car is that it has AC. almost nothing else in its class does and owners will appreciate it.
You'll be astonished how many real race cars have AC. In some series it's even mandatory. 😉
You're sitting in a fully enclosed perspex cockpit with a whopping big V10 behind you. Think they were probably a bit worried about the bad press of killing one of their ultra wealthy owners as I can't see any driver cooling vents in that cockpit at all.

Having said that, there is one coming to a supercar collector who lives near me... And he drives all his specials on the road, he just gets day permits to drive them to whatever track day/social event he wants to take them to.
Have had him come past me in his Senna GTR when I was out one day.

It amazing to see car companies like McLaren are bringing their virtual race cars into reality. The v10 sounds majestic too. Imagine Mazda brought their virtual LM55 prototype with the modern R26B 4 rotor engine with skyactive technology and AWD. It could be the successor to the Furai. If one day it happens, I hope it doesn’t catch fire again

That v10 sounds just glorious…
While not officially specified from what I've been reading, that has to be the unmistakable sound of the Judd V10. That drone throughout the RPMs and the resonance of that intake noise is a dead giveaway after hearing it for years in the back of cars like the Lola B2K/10, Dallara SP1, Creation CA06 and the Epsilon Euskadi ee1. Pleasantly surprised as I didn't think I'd be hearing it again in ANYTHING modern.
Car And Driver confirmed it's produced by Judd, good ear

Judd engine if anyone was wondering, for some reason they left the engine maker out and went with “bespoke” instead of their actual name “Judd” founded by John Judd and Jack Brabham in 1971. These guys helped provide the beautiful unique f1 sound.

Developing a car must be an exhilarating feeling. Especially, when they get it right. Can’t wait to see this in its final production!!
To think that almost 5 years later, from driving this car around Le Mans in GT Sport, to seeing a prototype in the very same likeness. Makes me wonder which other companies would make such a sort of conversion from game, to reality.
They should call it the McLaren Vision. A little homage to where it came from.

Ollie could do worse than to take inspiration from his old Evo colleague Henry Catchpole and just let the interesting car people talk a bit more freely, without interrupting their flow. I know it's Top Gear and it needs to keep 14-year olds on Red Bull interested but still, respect is surely a timeless virtue?

The Vision Gran Turismo Cars are the best representation of turning the game imaginations into a real dream! McLaren have done just that right there, and stills gonna get more vivid than it already is…!
VGT project started almost at the end cycle of gran turismo 5 with Nissan being the first in this project so no, the designing of the cars were both done to work on their R&D and for the games, recent one being Porsche with their all electric VGT
I want to see this go up against the Valkyrie when they both reach production!

You got wrong the Mclaren reason: avoid F1 cost cap and be able to test a wing car freely on track against F1 Rules. That's all. No dreams, no art, no other purpose than that, just like Aston with Valkyrie and Red Bull with RB17. It's cheating dressed up like a car built for passion.

WOW. While OTHER manufacturers go to Electric, McLaren went against to all of them and created N/A 5.2 V10 with SCREAMING 10500 RPM. Hat off 👌🏻

I saw this amazing car & so many others at Pebble Beach in August 2022. Breathtaking.
I love it! I thought I was a car guy, but in reality I don't care much for roadcars. This is the type of car that really get me excited! Track car, race cars, I love racing, and I love racing machinery! I wouldn't pay for a Senna or a 720S, but this is where I would fork out all of my cash!

Unbelievable, hats off to McLaren for pulling this off. Been a GT fan since the PS1 days, I like the idea of Vision GT but I never thought a manufacturer would actually put their VGT car into full production. I would LOVE to see Mazda and Hyundai follow suit, since their VGT cars seems to fit the idea of a modern LMP/LMH, and the new LMH regulations are more relaxed when it comes to overall design.

Yes, made in collaboration with McLaren F1 team. Bunch of parts were changed and tuned, different maintenance schedules etc
