I lived there for several years. I think it’s great for retirees but for those who work it’s very difficult to find a good paying job. It’s a very depressed area and all the bigger companies are in Orlando which is just too far to drive. Hospitality jobs are big there and so is the beach and with that comes lots of drugs.
Don't move to Florida! Housing cost will be your downfall. Buying or renting is very expensive due to taxes on the high property values and high insurance costs due to the hurricanes over the last few years. Automobile insurance is also skyrocketing due to all the flooded vehicles during storms and all of the uninsured people driving around here. We have a lot more properties for sale in my area of Florida because people are hearing about all these exploding costs and they have stopped coming.
That is very disappointing to hear. I've gotten excellent feedback from many on the local foodie group regarding Hulls. I hope this experience does not dissuade you from the Ormond Beach area. There are many restaurants near Hulls that I have personally visited with great success: Rose Villa for a quaint upscale experience, Grind Gastropub for beer, burgers, and live music, and Fugu Sushi. -- I'm also sorry for the late response. I actually bought a house down there and am moving.So we are eating out ALOT! I love Hulls! The "Make it Southern" is a meal by itself. The food is great and I do agree the servers always seem "Busy" Try Genovese's Italian they have amazing meatballs on the corner of Ocean Shores and Grenada and Cafe con Leche if ya like latin especially Cuban food. Best run Outback in the country in that strip center!

We went to Hulls restaurant on a Sunday. The waiter ignored us and the the food was cold. Wont ever be going back there again.
