- 👋 After installing the AWE Switchpath exhaust on our 2024 Audi RS3, my wife wanted just a bit more sound. The RS3 has standalone mid pipe that each house a secondary catalytic converter. Those cats are a performance restriction and reduce the sound as well. So I found a nice set of midpipes for the RS3 that are just straight pipes with nothing in them. Installing midpipes for the 8Y Audi RS3 takes about 20 minutes and was super easy to do. We are so blown away with the new sound of the RS3! The AWE Switchpath exhaust already sounded so good with the valve open. But with the midpipes deleted in favor of straight pipes, the V10 sound comes alive! The Audi RS3 absolutely rips now and sounds so good! All that's left is to do a downpipe at some point. But we love the new sound on the RS3! Very well worth the inexpensive addition of adding midpipes to the 8Y Audi RS3 equipped with the AWE exhaust. My wife loves the new sound and that, along with the lowering springs really got the new RS3 up to par with how we like the car to drive. Tighter suspension and an amazing sounding 5 cylinder engine makes the character in the 2024 Audi RS3 wake up! This car is a blast and now sounds the part! Very exotic tone! But with the valve closed, it still sounds nearly stock within drone and is comfforbtale to daily drive. Not that my wife will every drive it in quiet mode ;)

Alex on Autos review of the RS3 stands out since he said it was the best performance car he's tested in the last few years!! Said he liked it better than the caddie black wing, Supra, M3, and many more! Joe Achilles did a 1,500-mile review, and he's a massive bmw fanboy . He said the ride quality was so good that only 150k M5 CS could possibly rival it! Also said it's worth every penny and would have bought one if there weren't huge markups at the time!!

Stock RS exhuast with mid pipes is very loud and pure V10 sound. Mid pipes are an absolute MUST HAVE!!!!

It was great to see you and your wife do projects together. Last year I put an intake on my TTRS and my girlfriend gave me some lemonade lol. But she stayed out with me the whole time 👍🏾. Trust me the 5 cylinder is a joy to mod.

I got resonated short tails for my Infiniti G37 and was disappointed with how quite it was... Until I got some high flow cats for it! Sounded sooo much better!

We do. But they just do OBD port test. No visual inspection. So since there are no sensors on the secondary cats, nothings throws a code 😜

Yeah it’ll rip then! Both sound good. B58 is louder. But the RS3 has a much more unique tone
Yeah there is more character to the 5 Cylinder. Supra makes sounds good sounds tho and has more volume I'd say

I had a Supra before and also will agree with the comments. The RS3 sounds way better and more unique. The only car that sounds like this is the V10 . But , I do miss the B58 platform and it sounds great

For European models, there are 4 sensors attached to the cat pipes. I need special decat pipes to which those sensors can be connected for my Rs3 2023, otherwise the check engine will light up 😢

Because I’m told from exhaust specialists my new 2024 has GPF (gasoline particulate filters ) can’t put mid pipe .like on the 8V Is this true?
Is your car a USA spec? If your factory midpipes look like ours, you'll be good
just curious, (don't know if you bought the car new) but by installing this exhaust aren't you voiding any car warranty?
Nope. A dealer would have to price this part caused an issue. If I did a carless downpipe and something happened with the turbo or 02 sensors, then they may void warranty on those specific parts. But a dealer has to show the part you installed caused an issue.
What midpipes are these and also is the car actually loud now or still not enough
Sounds plenty loud now with the valve open. Any straight pipe mid pipe will work. I went with Unitronic. But there's other brands. All will be the same

Nope. There are no sensors in the secondary cats. So it wont do anything

Nope. If you delete the primary cat you might smell a little bit of soot. But the secondary cats don't do much. Even on my old Supra and GTR that were straight piped completely, never really smelled anything

Yeah and a 5 cylinder sounds very similar to a V10. I own a Gallardo and you can hear a very similar tone from these engines since they are almost derived from the same thing. The Lambo V10 is basically two of these 5 cylinders

I'd like to be able to do a high flow catted DP like I did on the Supra. Gets the flow and a bit more sound, but no tuning required

I'm flabbergasted to hear you say that you didn't think it was way better than the S3 out of the box lol! Also, this car is phenomenal in stock form, so you two are extremely picky buyers to even second guess such a well put together car imo!!😂
The steering and handling just felt so vague. S3 was a little go cart. This is still faster with better tech and refinements. But the S3 was more mechanical and felt shrunken around you. This felt bulky with the stock suspension and still doesn't steer as direct
@BrosFOURRSpeed Steering is subjective and everyone has a different opinion on what feels good to them imo!
Very true. The more we drive the older school sports cars, the more we like mechanical hydraulic steering. The new stuff is hit or miss if it feels direct or not
@@BrosFOURRSpeed it's all about how they tune the EPS, i think the RS3 is a fantastic car all around but I agree, it handles very...commuter. I'm kind of OK with that tho, under the context of it being a DD to do school runs and grocery stores.
It's funny, I found your channel after I got my Supra and (have almost) convinced my wife to buy an RS3. If we wind up getting it, I guess I'll also be buying all the same stuff you get for the RS3 as well 🤣
@@LordOfOlympusRS3 handles commuter you say, but it's faster around a track then a Supra! RS3 had set a record around the ring in Germany for its class with zero mods! It was faster than the M2CS even lol, so it handes way better then you imagine trust me! My friend has the Supra by the way so I know it's capabilites!

Do you have a valve controller on your RS3? And what rpm range does it drone when valves are open? And how much percentage increase in drone would you say when adding in the catless mids?
No valve controller. In comfort mode there isn’t any drone. If you keep things under 3k, it hardly sounds different than stock. Above 4k is when you hear it most. With valve opened, slow speeds is a bit of drone. But not much. So it’s the perfect blend.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Are you thinking about adding a valve controller? You may already know that even in dynamic mode the valves aren't always open 100% of the time unfortunately. But the tradeoff might be even more added drone in the lower rpm range.
@@djb85 Probably not. I had it in the S3. Made a big difference since the valves pretty much only opened in high rpm regardless of drive more. This opens nicely in RS modes. So we like the blend

What percentage of sound increase came from exhaust vs mid pipe? Leaning towards keeping stock exhaust and just the mids
Maybe 20% more volume. I've heard people just do the midpipes and they alone add a good amount of sound

Maybe it was my butt dyno but I just installed these today and it felt like I had more throttle response
Possibly! Would be cool to be able to dyno the car before and after. But removing restrictions will wake up the car a bit

Kind of shocked that lowering springs were needed because past reviews seems to say the new RS3 was a step up on the handling front.
Yeah the new springs really helped dial in the handling. The FWD bias drivetrain makes the stock handling and steering feel pretty off and vague. The lower stance helps a ton!

That could be fun! We bought the 8V S3 while we waited for the RS3. Sold the S3 for what we paid too after driving it 10k miles

this video was my inspiration to replace mid pipes in my 2024 RS 3 .. and i was nearly about to purchase pipes from internet but im soo disappointed that my car does not give me option to do it
my middpipes are permanently connected with downpipe as one thing

Unfortunately No and to be honest i was glad that i looked under the car before i actually ordered a pipes
i have seen few videos on YT including yours about how easy is to do it but i cant do it on mine unless i replace all downpipe with midpipes which i dont want to do it for warranty purposes
my car is beginning of 2024 UK spec so not sure if audi has change something due to some many people replacing those parts i dont know but im quite disappointed
anyway I still love my RS3 such a great car

Nothing Compares with 2015 -2016 sound RS3
Been a while since I drove one. But doesn't seem all too different. Midpipes brought out the V10 sound
The cast iron block CZGB engine is by far the best sounding 2.5 Audi made
