- This week’s adventure brings me back to my own neck of the woods. I return to one of my favorite haunts, Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown, NY. One weekend a year over 800 Revolutionary War reenactors come together on Lake Ontario to participate in various battles and demonstrations. This year’s theme; Rebels at the Gate, features a ‘what if’ scenario where a group of the Continental Army attempt to attack and capture the fort. The demonstration was complete with full field artillery cannons and mortars along with a ton of muskets firing back and forth. It was a great time and I’m bringing you all! Do Come Along!!!

I had an amazing time watching this battle unfold. Thank you to all the reenactors for putting on such an incredible demonstration!
Thanks for this. I was a sergeant in the company of brits at the beginning of the video and you got a lot of great footage of us in the battle part. 54th Regiment of foot, we are on Facebook and Instagram!
I glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you all so much for putting on such an incredible reenactment!!!!
Pretty cool to see this, I’ve always wanted to visit a battleground and get the tour mostly to learn the history. I’ve never seen a reenactment but have known a couple of people that did them.
This was my first reenactment and I wasn't disappointed! Byram's Ford is right near you. It's a Civil War battlefield but still looks pretty cool. You should go and check it out!
Grateful the british only won the battle and not the war, or I would be drinking tea instead of coffee watching this video.
Oh yes, how history would be so different if they had won! Although, I don't mind a spot of tea every once in awhile. 😁
Red Coates kick some butt
😁🇬🇧
That is too cool. What a great spot you had to see all the action too. I’m glad to hear the they have some youngsters participating too.
I lucked out and got a great spot! Reenactments are pretty amazing to watch!!! 😁
This is very cool. A former coworker did civil war reenactment at Fort Ticonderoga.
I've often thought that it must be really cool to do!!!!
I'd go just for the cannons. BOOM! So true, it definitely gives you insight into what battles during this time period were like. And I liked the laker cameo, right on the horizon, at the 5-minute mark. 🚢
My camera can't do it justice on how loud the cannons and even the muskets were. They said too that they were using a little less than half the powder that would be used in actual battle. I do love the view od the lake from up there. On clear days you can actually see th CN Tower.
@@UnkleHeavy Everything is so measured and orderly in the re-enactments. I wonder how quickly things devolved during actual battle. That artillery is something else, even at half power. A few falls ago, we visited East Cavalry Field at Gettysburg. And from where they placed the battery monuments, it was amazing to consider how far -- and how many - shells were going down range. You know the ground was heaving, the reverberations shaking soldiers to their core and the noise was thunderous, but I think you had to be there to truly understand it. And that was nothing compared to what was happening a few miles away on the Union left at about the same time.
