Rockport, Maine – Lighthouses and Harbors – My First Trip to Maine – New Series – Exploring the Area
This week’s adventure kicks off a new series with my trip to Maine this summer. I begin my tour of the area with the air trip into the Portland International Jetport and stop briefly in the City of Portland with a visit to my own Grandfather’s childhood home. From there I travel to the Rockport, Maine to meet up with some friends and see the area. I start off by checking out the Camden Snow Bowl and Toboggan Run. From there it’s off to Rockport Marie Park to get an up close view of Rockport Harbor. We then venture out to Owl’s Head Harbor where we see Owl’s Head Lighthouse. From there, it's a nice walk out on the Rockland Breakwater and the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse on its end. I finish the day with a night walk around Rockland Harbor. It was a fun filled day with lots of ground covered for my first time to Maine. It was a great start to a very cool series in Maine. Do Come Along!!!

Fellow NJ'ian, i totally understand the rite of passage that is swimming in anything other than the Atlantic!
It's almost life changing!
We were there yesterday. I've also been a member since it opened in 2000. It is definitely worth the time to visit.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's such an amazing place!
Biggest trap in NF. People spending $15 a head for a 2 min. walk-thru. Just read the Google reviews, lol. But people should see just how small it is from the outside.
I know right? It's just so incredibly unusual to have a tourist trap in a tourist area. 🤔
this is great! just now learning about FLW and his works and his friends.. Darwin Martin and his wife were more than socialites.. they were lifelong friends of Frank and helped him when the chips were down.. interesting note is that this summer home was built for the family but designed for her because she was almost blind and needed all the daylight through the windows. Truely a work of love.
His design work here was truly amazing to see! I did not know that about the Martins and Wright.
I was born in Dansville N Y my dad grew up in Livingston co N Y
Billy Edwards was my great grandfather
Thanks for the video I wanted to see what it was before the long drive. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it !!! 😁
In 2015 walked out to the Rockland Breakers Lighthouse. Looked at my pictures, and Wow that house has taken a beating. My favorite time to drive the coast of Maine is January/February, not many people around.
I think there must have been a really bad storm that did some extensive damage there! Lots of paint taken right off the shingles. They closed the entire walkway on the upper deck too. The views from out there were really incredible though!!!
Nice views! Sometimes you gotta risk the cliffs to get those million dollar shots for the vlog 😁
Thanks! Always remember to try and get those million dollar shots! 😁
No 🌧️???? I really think you need to join that National Toboggan team! Looks like you were getting used to that harbor life, until you would fall off one of those cliffs!
I could totally get used having those ocean views full time! And the weather actually cooperated!!!
Cancelled the battle!!! That really sucks hopefully you’ll get back to see it soon. I was really curious to see that. The mine sweeper was cool to see, can’t imagine what that job would be like.
It's just my luck when it comes to things like this. 😁 Maybe next year! 😀😀😀
That's such a bummer you didn't get to see the reenactment. Those are some really interesting German vehicles, I wished I would've paid more attention to the markings on them. Sorry I didn't get to meet you, I had a good time when i met with Tolle up there on Friday.
No worries, it happens. 😁 They really did a great job restoring so many if those vehicles! I'm sure I'll be through Ohio again eventually!
Bummer you missed the invasion but I’d say we still had a good day of checking everything out. I haven’t seen Rich since he started flirting with that 2nd baseman so maybe that worked out for him. And wow… I forgot just how hard it was raining.
I always bring the bad weather when I travel. 😁 It was still a great day. Lots of cool things to see and we had a blast!
5:53 Fun Fact: The Scream Is On The Scratch
😀😱
My mother was one of the early employees at Zippo Lighter. Several of my other relatives also worked there. By the way, the founder of Zippo Lighter George Blaisdell used to buy new shoes for the poor kids in town. My mother was shocked when my older brother came home from grade school with a new pair of shoes on.
That's awesome!
It seems like you two were out and about just a few months ago, is this video from then or is it recent?
This was middle of August. I'm always playing catch-up on my editing. 😁
Those dang snobby pirates!
I know, right!? Give them an ahoy and they completely ignore you! 🏴☠️
Erie definitely flies under the radar. It's been a few years since I lived in that corner of Pennsylvania, but I always enjoyed visiting. I saw the guy from Rusted Root perform at a pub, there's Ashbury Woods and eating at Sarah's. Towing my boat up to fish in and around Presque Isle Bay was always a good day. #LoveThatClassicOutroMusic
Presque Isle is really a kind of hidden treasure there. Last time I was there, we ate at El Amigo. Great Mexican if you're in the area!
Great vlog, and amazing views from the top of the bi-centennial tower! That ship was super cool to see. Glad I got to experience that view thru your lens Unkle Heavy… always a fun time… glad you got your tickets and I was able to tag along…
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!
Cool tower and the view of the city at night looks great too!
Thanks! It was pretty amazing! If your travels ever bring you up there again, I highly recommend checking it out!!
Don't drop your phone😱
I came close at one point. That would have been a really bad day!
Exciting video 👍
Thank you so much!!! 😁
But the pronunciation is Stan Hugh-wet as in stone hewn. Think Hugh Jackman got wet. -A Native Akronite.
Thank you so much! I always have a really difficult time pronouncing the names of towns and locations. 😁
I love Blizzards,
Grateful the british only won the battle and not the war, or I would be drinking tea instead of coffee watching this video.
Oh yes, how history would be so different if they had won! Although, I don't mind a spot of tea every once in awhile. 😁
Martinez Cynthia Hernandez Jeffrey Johnson Amy
I enjoyed your video.
Thank you!
It's good to see so much activity and the city in general embracing the waterfront and harbor. I can't believe how big the Key Bank Center looks from the water. It was a big deal a couple weeks ago when the Seneca Chief sailed through Rochester. Hey Shark Girl!
They've really done so much to improve the Canalside and it continues to get better with each visit! Did you guys get the chance to get out snd see the Seneca Chief while it was out near you?
@UnkleHeavy Unfortunately, no, we just caught the coverage. I wanted to see the pedestrian bridge for the new football stadium when it came through on the canal earlier this summer, but the timing didn't work out for that either.
Great video, the locks are quite fascinating. But actually the ship you are watching is a bulk carrier, the Algoma Equinox, not a container ship. Container ships go on the ocean and carry the 'boxes' you see going down the highway. Bulk carriers have cargo holds for items such as grain, salt, stone, cement, etc.
Thanks for letting me know! 😁
@@UnkleHeavy You're welcome. A friend of mine is a ship pilot and often takes ships through the Welland Canal and the surrounding area!
Looks like nice cruise and that's gotta be one of the best names for a captain too! And it's only fitting to drink a Captain Morgan after that 😂 Cool video Heavy!
I figured with a name like Captain Morgan, you just can't go wrong!!!😁
Oh wow this brought back some memories, this was my 2nd or 3rd visit in 97 & remember gettin another day free given to you when you payed , i was a big miami vice fan & remember crockett speakin comin outta speaker in the bushes & i was soooooo made up over this ,also the boards were up as they were building islands of adventure next door ,thank you for this you must have been one of the first vloggers of the day lol , my fave ride & is still to this day is back to the future & remember goin on it 3 times in a row as there was no line when we came out ,this was classic universal & although it looks great now nothin can beat the original thank you from the UK 😎😎👍👍👏👏
Thank you so much for your very kind words!!! It was truly a great time to visit Universal Orlando. I totally miss so many of those attractions that are long gone now. I remember the free day, we actually ended up going two days in this video because of it. 😁 BTTF was one of my favs too!!!! Thank you so much for watching!!!
@@UnkleHeavy hey you more then welcome , as you say long gone which we'll never get back ,bit like splash mountain in disney thats such an iconic ride but is now lost ,i do wonder whether they ask ppl opinions or just go ahead & close something down ?????
Why is he air dicking he’s air dicking
Looks like they made a lot of progress on the Seneca Chief in the last year 😂. Really liked the artwork on the end of it. Nice! Right by the Little Rock and the lighthouse. I was hoping you were going to break your underwear out for some extra sailing power like John Candy did in Summer Rental 🤣. I have to say it looks like you had the perfect weather for it.
Didn't the end result of the Seneca Chief come out great!? Funny about Summer Rental, I was thinking about the whole "Jibe Ho" scene when Scully gets hit in the head when they were taking down the front sail. 🤣 It really was a beautiful day to sail!!!!
Let’s get some tickets for the Seneca Chief, that looks pretty cool. The boat tour was a great idea, we did one once and it was a blast.
I think they're supposed to take it all the way down the canal to Albany and then down the river to NYC this fall. I'll have to do a tour when it gets back! The lake cruise definitely hit the spot that day. It was good medicine to help my sulking about the vacation cancellation!!!
@@UnkleHeavy That would be a very cool trip, is it open to the public or will there be future trips where it’s possible to go along?
I don't think you can ride in it, but I think it's available to tour at all it's stops.
Amazing video , thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you so much!!! 😁
Another fun fact, the road to Hana is has a nickname and that nickname is Divorce Highway. That is because Husbands and Wives argue about speed limits
I didn't know that, but can totally see that. 😁
Fun fact, Black sand Beach is made up of Volcanic rock. Saying Volcanic rock beach doesn’t sell as much as Black sand beach
I am currently in Maui staying at Honua Kai Resort in the Hokulani Tower. I love this resort.
It's definitely one of the most incredible places I've ever stayed!!!
Really enjoyed your video. Very enjoyable, educational, and interesting. Loved the Ichabod connection as well.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!!!
"And they built with their bare hands what we still can't do today"
Incredible to think about, isn't it? Over 1000 people working for 6 years to build it. Amazing!!!
This museum is in my old back yard. In fact, my cousin conducts tours there. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It's really an amazing place!
I’d have to attack those kegs in a different manner. That band and the drums 😮😮😮 incredible!
The only keg attack there would probably be in my lower back from throwing them! Yeah that band was pretty amazing. Lots of energy!!
Nice tour. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
good video boss. come on down to Rochester for a red wings game next season
Thank you so much! I might just have to go for an away game!
32 year old from the Bronx. Grew up coming here as a kid. I have so many fond memories. This video was a hit of nostalgia. Unfortunately I do not have any kids. But I hope to have some one day and watch them enjoy themselves as I did when I was younger. It definitely does not look anywhere as busy as when I was younger. This place used to be PACKED. I really hope them all the success and hope they are able to stick around for many years to come. I loved this place. Thank you for the great video and bringing me back so many memories from when I was a kid!
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! It was always a really cool place to visit, it was so cool to see how they hold on to so many of the traditions that were there when I was a kid! You should definitely go and check it out, I think it'll be just as cool as it was when you were a kid!!!
This video is awesome thanks for filming this 😁 just bought my first zippo, im from California, hope to visit one day,, i have a friend outside of Philly
It's a very cool place to visit, I highly recommend checking it out!!

Pretty cool to see this, I’ve always wanted to visit a battleground and get the tour mostly to learn the history. I’ve never seen a reenactment but have known a couple of people that did them.
This was my first reenactment and I wasn't disappointed! Byram's Ford is right near you. It's a Civil War battlefield but still looks pretty cool. You should go and check it out!
Thanks for this. I was a sergeant in the company of brits at the beginning of the video and you got a lot of great footage of us in the battle part. 54th Regiment of foot, we are on Facebook and Instagram!
I glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you all so much for putting on such an incredible reenactment!!!!
