1988 BMW E30 320i - walkaround and POV drive

- A walkaround and short drive with my BMW 3 Series. The car is completely original and equipped with only a few factory options like front fog lights, a manual sunroof and 15 inch alloy wheels. The colour is Mineral Blue (code 231), a pretty rare and (in my opinion) gorgeous colour for this generation of the 3 Series.
The 320i had the smallest six-cylinder available in the E30. It sounds great and feels very ´buttery´, although it lacks the impressive power of the larger 325i, especially at lower revs. But it does have a nice party trick which you may be able to notice in the video: at around 4000 rpm it gains strength pretty abruptly, almost like it has a variable valve timing of some sort - which of course it doesn´t. It surely makes it rewarding to explore those higher revs every once in a while... - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Inmiddels heb ik deze BMW sinds een half jaartje in mijn bezit, ik heb er een projectje van gemaak, interieur, carrosserie en motorruimte zijn inmiddels helemaal clean, ben nu met de ophanging en bodem bezig, ik probeer hem "bijna" fabrieksnieuw te maken.😊

Edit: Have you or the previous owner done any extensive work on the car besides replacing parts which is expected to decay over time?
Hi! Nice to hear that you appreciate the originality of the car, I find it very important myself too. About your question, I have owned the car for about a year now and never had to do any major work on it, and as far as I can see from the old bills that came with the car, neither have the previous owners. Only thing is that not all the paint is original, so there may have been some rust repairs done at some point. But I think that´s it.

Yep, BBS. They are 15 inch, which I believe was the biggest size available for the E30 at the time. Glad you like the car!
@@ericcrama2221 I have 15 inch Alpina's, the ones with the black heart. Skinnier much lower tires, but when i have to go MOT it this october i'll put bigger ones on it.

Again, stunning car you have! Love, love the blue, love the way it is so clean... Stil l can't believe how amazing... Almost makes me repaint my white E30. Also, i Have a low profile ducktail spoiler at the rear and louvres. It looks amazing, black on white. But I do wish my tires were taller, around the size of yours!
one thing of note, the car is perfect so i think you can handle this scruteny😁, is that the strip around the windows is brown, while it should be chrome coloured. They are from some sort of rubbery plastic and they turn brown after a few years. Mine too, but i bought a couple of meters of cheap aftermarket stuff, nobody will notice. Spent 50 euro, while the original is 200

@@lordbogus6709 Alpina´s, nice! I really like the looks of those too. Size of my tires is the original, 205/55 R15. Unfortunately new tires are quite expensive, since it´s a rare size nowadays. And I don´t quite understand the thing you mention about the strip (yes, I can handle it ;-) Do you mean the strips around the side windows? Or the front/rear window? And a rubber strip that should be chrome coloured? I don´t really get it...
@@lordbogus6709 It´s called Mineral Blue (or Blau in German), code number 231. It´s funny, I wasn´t actively looking for an E30 (I´m generally into (even) older cars), but when I came across this one I immediately fell for the colour and condition of the car. And now I love the E30, of course ;-)

I have an E30 320i M20B20, my diff is a 3.91 but its making whinning noise at cruising speed, i need to change it and i only find for sale 4.10 and 3.45, can anyone tell me what diff to get for daily driving?
My diff also makes a tiny bit of noise, luckily nowhere near bad enough (yet) to think about changing it. I don´t know the answer to your question, I´m sorry. Hopefully someone else does.
Just a question i have about the E30s. Is there some kind of light that goes on when youre reversing or how do you know your in reverse? Is it all about the feeling in the shift knob ?
No, there is no light or anything like that - in fact I don´t know if any manually shifted car has such a feature. In the case of the E30 you feel a very obvious spring pressure when moving the shifter all the way to the left in order to engage reverse, so there is never really any room for doubt.

Hi! I´d rather not mention the exact amount I paid (in case I ever want to sell the car, hope you understand), but let´s say a fair amount north of 10k euros. A lot of money, but the car had less than 100.000 (documented) kilometers on the clock at that moment, and was (and still is) in fantastic shape. You can definitely find a nice one with a bit more kms/miles for less I´d say.

If you listen to this sound while you try to sleep the following can happen: After 2 hours you wake up, sweating, thinking about your e30 might be stolen. You go into your garage and surprise - there is no e30. Crazy Stuff 😁 ok, i have to admit i never bought one 😊

No, I didn´t restore it, I bought it the way it is. As far as I can see some parts have been repainted in the past, but for the rest I think the car is completely original. Hope to keep it that way for a long time.

Hi Miguel, if you don´t mind I´ll answer in English (as you can tell from the license plate I live in Belgium, but I am Dutch. So my French is not great...). The BMW E30 is from a time when catalytic converters were not omnipresent yet. My 1988 car has one, but I think earlier examples don´t, or maybe they were an equipment option that you had to pay extra for, I´m not sure. Anyway, whether or not cars are allowed to be used in certain areas generally does not depend strictly on the presence of a catalytic converter, but usually on what Euro classification the car has. Or even simply on what year the car is from. At least that is my experience. I know that for example in Spain, gasoline cars that were built before 2001 are not allowed in certain areas. And in Wallonia pretty soon only cars with Euro 4 or better will be allowed. So long story short, I would first decide on where you want to be able to use the car, then check the regulations for that area, and then decide which car to get. Having said that, a BMW E30 is VERY recomendable ;-)

I absolutely think so! It´s a solid, intuitive and most of all FUN drive. Just be careful please.

@@ST-42 I only have experience with the 320i, so I´m absolutely no expert on this, but I do feel that a six cylinder engine (320, 323, 325) gives this car something really special. And for the rest I´d say the bigger the better...

@@ST-42 all E30's bring something to the table, the 318i is "slower" but the gearing makes it actually much faster lower down so feels faster around town from stoplights. The 320i is a very balanced smooth ride and great for a highway cruiser like a convertible. The 323 is reasonably powerful and the 325 the same, not by today's standards but good fun.

Hola, pues creo que para el día a día podría ser un coche perfectísimo, para todas las edades, de 18 a 105 años ;-) No te cansarás de conducirlo. Pero hay que tener en cuenta que es un coche antiguo... hay que mantenerlo bien y estar dispuesto a aceptar que te pueda dejar tirado algún día...
