I owned 320i in very poor condition for few years , drive every day, with no issue, only leak oil and leak rack pump oil. After that fully rebuild with light flywheel ,and 272 camshafts, the result is very impressive! Fast response! Happy to have it
I own a similar car, 320 convertible built in 89 with those metal bumpers. I can confirm that is goes 200 - classic BMW high rev engine, but gearbox is close to perfection and either you love or hate the high revs. One of the few cars which really needs the rev meter. But even more important - always minimum 15 minutes drive required until the engine is ready to go!
I had a 325i 2 door. One of the most enjoyable cars I’ve ever driven, and the sound is so amazing. In this convertible you hear it a little less due to the wind noise. And for such an old car, very agile, not as thirsty as you might think and even without power steering totally usable as a daily.
I had them nearly all, from 316 to 325 minus ETA. But in this BMW i would check, if it hasn´t been done already, the viscous fan, because it seems to be always active (i can clearly hear it) and needs some amount of power - not much, but it has an effect. It also cools the engine all the way down where it should not, so it cannot reach an optimal temperature - not good for its inerts when being beaten,
The Cabrio is much more rough than the Coupe. I took my 320i Cabrio to 190km/h just once and had the feeling the Cabrio-top is about to break loose and fly away.
Weak points to check, throttle body heater hoses, coolant flange on rear of cylinder head, thermostat housing, water pump (driven by timing belt), look for leaks. Poor wiring can also give false readings with temp gauge on these cars. Check electric fan operation too
does very well for only 129 horses! what o lovely machine, old but gold and long lasting!

Which flywheel did you use and is it street legal? I'll begin restoring mine soon and thought the throttle response was always a bit lumpy
i have a 325i 1988. gorgeous engine sound. so smooth. top enjoyment.
An old time classic car 🙏

320 🤢
What about the temperature 🌡️ I have the same car but with automatic gear it s overheating why ?? for the rediator i use a water it make any problem
Use proper coolant 50-50 mix for the temperatures rated in your country. You definitely shouldn’t be running it on water only.
