    Simply the best Captain in the Star Trek universe. Captain Janeway is outstanding.
    Kate Mulgrew, made it her own and the rest of the cast complimented each other in every episode. Every character every actor is outstanding.

      @@ianhirst1148 not sure I agree. Picard had plenty of weaknesses which he mostly overcame. Ones that come to mind regarding his character were that he was distant from his crew,preferring to maintain distance, but towards the end became more approachable and started to hang out with them. He was prideful and a little naive in the federation ideals, but Q helped him overcome that and ask for help with the Borg.
      More importantly, The decisions he took in many episodes have been criticised by the fandom as much as the other captains, particularly concerning his adherence to the prime directive. Some saw him as less decisive compared to Janeway or Sisco, preferring to delegate and seek a diplomatic choice.
      They were all realistic models of good leaders, though.
      At the time of filming, during the later seasons, Picard was held up by one American general as a model for new recruits to learn leadership.
      I think Picard was the best for me. He utilised his crew and got the best from him and had to make a huge number of vital decisions under pressure. He’s the best captain and was appointed the flagship for that reason.

      Same, BT seemed to have the most character growth in the series beyond Seven (although it's kinda cheating to have a disconnected Borg to compare to).
      It felt like something of a letdown that the writers gave her no serious position in future Starfleet seen during the final episode.
      She was clearly a gifted engineer and scientist, so it seems a total cheat that she would have nothing big to fall into with a huge sponsor like Admiral Paris at her back - especially in concert with Seven who she had long since made peace with, you could imagine that the 2 of them working together at the head of a dedicated team of Starfleet personnel could have cracked Quantum Slipstream and various Borg inspired technologies.

    I ran into Robert Duncan McNeil in Toys’R’US back during the run of the show with his kids. As fate would have it, I was wearing a Star Trek shirt that day, and I felt self conscious about it, so I tried to keep away from him but still ran into him at the check out. He asked me for the time. My biggest takeaway was he was a good father, which goes a long way with me.
    A few decades later, I ran into Robert Picardo at a convention I was working at as a panel host. I didn’t enjoy that interaction as much, but he’s definitely a good actor.
    For a few months, I worked at the old Star Trek: The Experience and kept hearing how Garett Wang would show up a lot. I never saw him and was disappointed. From the stories I heard, he was very down to Earth and a nice guy.
    Here’s hoping for a great documentary. This show really brings back a lot of fond memories for me as it perfectly existed during my middle school and high school years, back when I was still an uber fan of the Star Trek franchise.

      It's crazy expensive and crazy complicated. Unlike TOS, where they just went back to the original filmed cut and restored it, with TNG (and DS9 and Voyager), there *is no* filmed cut. They shot it on film, then cut it together on video. So to get an HD version they have to literally use the video cut as a guide a recut the entire show from the hundreds of thousands of feet of film sitting in the archives collecting dust. You have to rebuild every single episode from scratch. It's incredibly time-consuming and incredibly expensive. They did it for TNG and then people stopped buying blu-rays, so that was a big money loser for Paramount. I can't imagine them doing it for DS9 and Voyager.

    I have been wishing for a Voyager documentary, and loved "What We Left Behind," the DS9 documentary. I've been rewatching the old (pre-2009) shows and really enjoying them. -- I've run across a few eps I never saw in the original runs, because life interfered with fandom, watching Trek shows. Rewatching VOY has made me wonder about possible storylines we never got. There could have been lots more interesting stuff we never got to see, or that would have been big changes to the characters and series, or alternate choices and timelines.

    I have fond memories of Voyager and am looking forward to this. I always hated how quickly they ditched the Maquis / Starfleet conflict though. Felt like a missed opportunity.

    • @RichO1701e
      @RichO1701e 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, that's Berman logic for ya. Didn't want serialised episodes, just stand alone, self contained episodes, which is why there's so little continuation or progression of characters.

    • @makasete30
      @makasete30 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They missed a lot of narrative and character opportunities on the show unfortunately. It has some of the best trek episodes, but they should have had more arcs like DS9 and the dominion war and fewer standalone episodes.

    • @DamienDrake
      @DamienDrake 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If we're being realistic, there's no way in hell a captain would integrate an enemy crew into theirs like that.

    • @captaincrook1582
      @captaincrook1582 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess you mean, there should have been more frequent internal conflict between that Maquis crew and Star Fleet on the ship? Well, they did revisit the Maquis vs Starfleet theme quite a few times during the course of the series as it went along.
      Although, since the Maquis faction were more centred around the Cardassian conflict back in the Alpha quadrant, perhaps it just made more sense to leave most of that behind as the seasons progressed, focusing instead on the unified crew vs all the external conflicts and threats of the Delta quadrant.
      There were also the Maquis conflicts dealt with in DS9, so perhaps it was better not to over-saturate that narrative.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was just thinking about mentioning this, but its true, they dealt with it 'some'. I was also thinking that its doubtful they'd integrate them, but then you remember their situation, and its certainly unique so as I think they said on the show, thats a long time to keep somebody in the brig.
      My criticism is that their writers had very interesting ideas, but didn't play them up very well. I seem to recall the video game had more punch to it than the show. That 'year of hell' two parter really could have been a whole season.
