  • Description
After several travel legs full of anxiety, we FINALLY get to enjoy a simple and peaceful time exploring a new area called Granite Creek located in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Welcome to our DIY Truck Camper life.
We are retired non-30 somethings who enjoy living part of the year in our Flatbed Truck Camper that, Steve designed and built. It's our adventure rig, budget earthroamer and tiny house on wheels. This is our vlog.
With a a few weeks of traveling already past it is so refreshing to have an easy drive and enjoy some down time in this quiet area. Maybe we're done with truck failures causing us delays. Hope to see you out on the road, exploring in your own way and rig.
Join our meandering travels over the next few weeks!

We stay in Gros Ventre campground, when we go to the Grand Teton N.P. Always have moose come thru the sites. Great video, really like your rig. Will have to look at your tour video.

We stayed down that road last summer and EVERY campsite was taken. We ended up almost to the hot spring in the big area that has many campsites. Someone pulled up in our backpocket and set up camp. Come to find out, their car/tent had been mauled by a bear in CO the night before and they were scared. They were legit brand new campers, pulling things out of boxes. I cried over the state of their cast iron which they soaked in a pan of water overnight. I also was worried about bear safety too! Sadly we had to gently share bear safety tips and camping.

Sounds like either we timed it to beat the crowds or the weather kept them away. I’ll Definitely keep that in mind if we think about a return trek someday. Crowded into the campground doesn’t sound fund, but good of you to learn their story and guide them … although a bear mauled tent experience is the kind of first camp trip that makes one decide to never camp again ;)

Are you going to be at the TCA event this year in Q? Good to see you out traveling in that sweet rig!

I assume you are referring to the TCA rally in Quartzite? That's likely in Feb 23'? We have been to all the TCA rally's since Mike started them and plan to be at the next one too.

Can you talk about the pros vs cons of towing that jeep? I have a Geo Tracker that is set up to tow behind my TC but I never bring it as I am worried it will limit me on where I'd like to camp.

The Jeep is heavy and reduces my fuel mileage by about 2 MPG. I would prefer not to tow it because Maximus feels a lot lighter without it but we love the freedom it gives us when we get where we are going. I had (more) problems towing it with the Lance 1130 we had before because I needed a 4ft long hitch extension (which I broke twice) but now my extension is 15" (with the same length camper) due the departure angle clearance. If I could have any tow, it probably would be a Suzuki Samuri because it's 1700lbs vs. 3200lbs. I don't feel it limits us because we uncoupled and drive separately early to save stress on the tow system on rough road (since we have two drivers). That also aids our ability to scout places we want to go so that might be seen as enhancing ability because we can make better decisions before attempting difficult terrain with the camper. I also consider it a lifeboat of sorts if we became stuck or broke down out of cel range. It may also be able to help recover the camper. As a matter of fact, we got stuck two weeks ago and it didn't help much.... I just about finished mounting a 12k winch on it today.
