Dude I hope you download daily videos I love your content and you are like a teacher for me in this field , sorry for my bad english because isn't my language
If I can suggest, don’t cut it after the first knot, flip it back again and you got your second layer using the same lady lugging. Ahhh and don’t forget to knot again ;)
Thank you Daniel Mann...because of you videos I took the plunge into spearfishing and your tips about gear really help...I am going to Amazon right now to look for a weight vest!
well I'd like to make a neck weight and maybe even try this out for my vest even tough this has not been a problem for me. I guess becaus I only dive in cold water and my 7mm suit is enough padding. Problem is I can't get my hands on these led shots in my country. I found them one place, but it was a crazy price for a tiny, tiny amout of balls.
Hello Daniel!! Well done man!!!! Thank you for the tip and for your time as well. I enjoyed the video and learned something new today. Farewell from Mayorca
Just thinking out loud, the lycra socks, I would double it up before tying the knot, and tye both socks with one knot. I like a figure 8 knot, rather than a half-hitch. Here it doesn't matter, but in a rope, it unties easier.
A painful experience. If any of the guys in your spearfishing club are hunters, you’ll be able to get the lead shot from them if you have trouble without a gun license.
@@DanielMann Yeah I'm confident I'll be able to get my hands on some! Currently I've got 5x 3lb weights on my belt, how many would you recommend dropping?
Maybe it's easier to get a hold of in the UK, I asked about getting lead shot here in Australia for reloading shot shells and was told it was special order and pretty expensive. If someone offers to take you game bird shooting you'd be crazy not to go. All the ones I've tasted so far are so much better than any duck or chicken you get from a store, it's like the difference between a store bought fish and that awesome target species you took yourself with a speargun 😁 Love your videos, see you on the next one
I’ve bought it in Australia many times. Just approach the gun stores with a honest approach saying you’re making dive weights. It’s used for many things other than shotgun shells. Hopefully going on a shoot later this year for some game birds.
Merry Christmas Daniel! The question is about weight vest. Please what size loose lead shot are you putting in the vest and how many kg. You have after. Thank you
Hey Daniel, I have done lots of spear fishing around the island of Madeira however I live here in England and was wondering if you could make a video on all of the beginners rules I should be aware of. (I.e. I have heard that you do not need a licence to spear fish in the uk is this true?) Many thanks And love the vids keep it up 👍
You must spit on the inside lenses and rub it around before you put the mask on each time. When the mask is new scrub it all with white toothpaste first and then use the spit.
we use normal diving belt then have those "dive pockets" and place it on the front of our belly. instead of lead we fill it with coins :3 (for 1 dollar i can get 200x25cents php). benefit is the pockets levitate below you with a small gap between you and the pocket making it very comfortable. downside they wiggle around a lil bit but it works very well. You do need to remove the belt before jumping up in the boat (if you have a distance between you and the edge) since they do catch some water.
@@bigchungus7807 haha yeah. our currency is worth nothing i was looking in to lead so badly until i realized the cheapest way was to actually throw money into the ocean.
Last Sept 5th Went for a 3 hour beach spearo session with.a weight belt - had back pain that evening. 3 days later I was in ER. Ended up herniating my L5-S1 and needed surgery to fix it. 6 months later still recovering, not been in the water since. Very much suggest this option for anyone reading this if you are a beach spearo and in the water for hours. :(
Just buy a mask, a knife and go to the water, for octopus, cuttlefish, shells and seafood you can catch bare hand, i begin with a cheap trident arpon with an useless ruber from decathlon, and with that i caught all the species enunciated before and more red mullet and flat fish such as plaice, sole, etc... after that i bought a cheap used speargun, which i don't recomend because was so old that i need to buy all the accessories. Just get used to be underwater, to understand the behaviour of the fishes, the dangers of the underwater environment (blackouts, underwater currents near holes and cravasses, sharp rocks, poisonous or aggressives animals, nets and fishing lines, tangled in your own line, lose gear that can make you get stuck ) and meet other speros who can be later on, your buddys when you want to dive deeper and longer. And something great, you have the magic of all the teachings of the youtubers like Daniel Mann.
hey thank you for your great diy videos, really super interesting and easy to do. additionally thank you for doing the only right thing unlike other influencers, stay at home. hopefully we'll run into each other sometime when this shit is done.
Daniel, bit of a silly question. But do you remove these pouches after every dive and rinse the salt water off them? Would you replace the sock every 10 dives or so if it's start to fray, I'm assuming you don't put a new sock on after every dive?
Just a heads-up: lead birdshots are illegal in many countries and there is a chance they are gonna be banned in the entire EU, along with lead bullets and lead fishing sinks/lures. This COULD make possession/use illegal IDK. Also some countries demand dive weights to have some sort of coating. But any way awesome DIY and always love using the wives clothes for actual important stuff
Use shot designed for waterfowl, like Tungsten or Bismuth. Tungsten is more dense than lead, so it takes a bit less shot to make a weight. Also, they’re more expensive and they can corrode in salt water so be sure to rinse and dry the weights well before storage. They are both non-toxic metals and safe to handle. There is steel shot, but that will rust away quickly, even if coated with tin or copper - it’s designed to dissolve over time (so the stuff that doesn’t hit a bird will return to the earth). Plus it’s not dense, so it takes more to make a weight.
I have that problem. 5mm wetsuit, small hips, not enough lead. I will get a weight vest and give this a go, thanks Dan. Any vest brands better than others?
Next video, how to handle with the neck pain, when you are laying in the bottom, stretching the head to lock for fishes, maybe i need another type of mask, one with wide view to the top, at the end of the session i lay a little over my left side, so i only can look for the fishes that appear from my side and not in front and i can't use my left arm to push forward when attaching
I love jumping in and swimming to a bombie and see a couple of dumb ones waiting for me and rolling over gently only to flounder like a wounded duck. Forgot the weight belt 😲😲😲😲😲
We’ve all been there. It was particularly noticeable when I was wearing a 9.5mm suit in Norway and jumped over the side. I nearly bobbed clear out of the water.
That is uhm... not very good for the environment... like... the lead or rather its ions dissolve in water which is not good for the organisms in the water and also if the sock breaks for some reason(sharp object for example) you have lead everywhere and cant take it out of the water again... if you really need a flexible lead bag buy it from a diving company... those are sealed, and dont use them anymore when they break. For reference about the toxicity: The German Sport Divers Association recommends to plasti-dip even traditional weights, which have a way smaller surface area.
This Chanel start to be addictive:) love it.

Exactly what I would have done !

What gun do you recommend and what length
Merry Christmas Daniel!

I’m not sure what size shot it is but it shouldn’t matter too much. The vest is about 4-4.5kg. Merry Christmas.

Daniel just wanted to tell you i use 5mm wetsuit i put 8kg and use ×4 1kg and ×2 2kg weight
That seems a lot for a 5mm suit! 8kg on your belt must hurt.

I really like the Sporasub Quick release one. It is the easiest to drop in an emergency with one handed operation.
Im using lead from 12gauge ammo... dont know if its harmfull or not, i have heard a lot of story’s around lead.
As long as you’re past puberty, it’s ok. It can damage brain development at young ages. But it’s still not a good idea to play with it. Or eat it.
This is a great tip, never thought about it.
However the lead i'm finding is about 10€/600g. That's a bit more expensive than the conventional ones
That seems expensive, I got 10kg for £40. Then again, what is the cost of one physio session for a sore back 😝
