  • I have a soft-spot for the BC505, and the slightly earlier BC502.
Bought from a recent swapmeet for just a few pounds, it actually worked, but I could tell it had more to give...

Apologies that the camera loses focus at times. I've had a word with it, and I'm assured it won't happen again!
Let me know in the comments what transistor radio make and model you'd like to see on the channel, and I'll see what I can find...

Nice old radio. Never had one of those here to play with. Well done on the restoration

Nice, Code'. I have three of these sets, two BC502's, same as the BC505's other than these 502's were only six transistors, plus one BC505 with the seven transistors fitted. The BC502 came out around early 1961 followed by the BC505 in 1962. Great sounding radios. Had a BC505 at home as a kid, don't know what eventually happened to it other than it did stop working so no doubt father threw it out.

I wish you'd do a video on the Roberts Revivals R250s that have the lighted dials. Sold through C.CRANE here in the States, around 2008. It's one of the most sensitive radios I own. Also, I'd like to see the tuning. I doesn't act like a tuning capacitor. I really enjoy your work.

Nice radio, much better than those rotten roberts sets.Next, you will upgrade and fix some nice hacker radios and show that they sound the best of all.

There were two models in this design of Radio, Code'. The first, the BC502, came out in 1960, followed in 1962 by the BC505. The BC502 had six transistors and the BC505 had seven transistors. I have one of each of these models. My BC505 set still had the price tag with it, slipped inside the back by the battery. Official price, 17 Gns i.e. £17. 17s., three bob short of £18.

I have both too, many and several in fact... solid performers

Sounds nice, i like a deep sounding radio, lots of body (no not an elephant) :-D
The two controls look like eyes, just need johnny morris from animal magic to add a voice.
The strip patch makes it look much better.
Your camera needs coffee to keep awake, goes out of focus lol 😀

I didn't see you fit the PP9 battery instead of the tiddlt PP3.
    Good job.

It obviously did get fitted as can be seen in the dying moments of the video - sadly the process intended for inclusion must've ended up on the cutting room floor!

i'm after a set of the clear knobs if you ever have a set for sale, 😉my 505 is missing both, it otherwise works A1 as is, all original unrecapped...a few wormholes, though 😢 personally i wouldnt have recapped your one, 'just because', the plesseys i've found theyre pretty much either all good or all bad within a set, maybe depends on batch...as for waxies, no need to replace as used in low voltage conditions, they wont give trouble..

    • @Codeeze
      @Codeeze  ปีที่แล้ว

The clear dials are hens teeth in good condition aren't they?! I have a couple more 502 & 505 sets that could do with transplants!
I prefer to change as much as I do for the radios longevity. A lot of my stuff finds a new home, and I want the radio to be hassle free for the new owner for some time to come.
If it's a set for myself, and it works, I let it be...
