    Opening up my second parcel of old radios. A nice lot with some interesting finds.
    Keep watching and I will run through each radio and see if they work. Future videos of restoration and repairs will follow.
    Welcome to my new subscribers and let me know if there's something you would like to see in future videos.
    I created this video with the TH-cam Video Editor ( / editor ) / radiocruncher / radiocruncher . Have a look at my new website radiocruncher.com www.paypal.com...

    I collect just about everything I find cool or interesting. My new thing is collecting smaller vintage radio and in one day, I bought 8 and that’s just the beginning and want more. So I’m glad to see other that love collecting radios on TH-cam and I knew I couldn’t be the only one. Lol!

      Oh and I’m staring with Sony and Panasonic from the 70s and 80s. I also love collecting boomboxes, Walkmans and cd players. But I have to stay focused on just radios bc of lack of funds and space.
      I wish they opened a vintage radio and electronic shop and I always wanted to open one, like they commonly have in Japan. But I should learn how to repair audio before even thinking of opening a vintage audio store. I think I’m the future you will see many vintage radios being displayed in businesses and homes for decor and displaying.
      So I’m glad others are collecting and loving old radios and taking care of items loved from the past. Bc to me in the old days was everyone for a kid or even a family. I just get excited just seeing them work and play music. I mean tyat the thing about vintage radios, it’s something that plays different music and still kind of like a wonder toy and not like a toy that you just look at, but a radio plays this wonderful thing called music.

      That’s what I need is a work bench and tools to be able to fix and restore my radios and vintage watches.

      Check out one of my latest livestreams as there is a list in the description of the tools and equipment I use. Be careful though as the collecting can get out of hand 😉

    Hi Graham. An idea for your channel. A definitive/good way of using our lovely analog radios to play shit but useful digital stuff. AM/FM transmitters, or leads to AUX connections. LM386, Rasp/Pi. We weekenders Im sure would love some good info from "our guru". Because all I seem to find on the interwebs is pretty sparse, conflicting and DIY try this!. Cheers Graham

      Hi Jeff. I will pull out the couple AM transmitters I have again soon. I've not messed much with the Raspberry Pi except to build an arcade game emulator. I have been looking at Bluetooth though but i need to experiment more before recommending anything.

    Those Ferguson AutoTwins are quite reasonable soundwise, that's the Mark III version (aka Ferguson 3162) you have from 1969. I like the Defiant too. That Pye is from 1955 while the GEC (case) is from 1957. I may be teaching granny to suck eggs, sincere apologies if so, but those battery valve heaters won't stand any over-voltage if you've not done one before. If you look on the UKVRR main site (I see you''re a member) Paul has a very easy to build 90/1.5v power pack project for battery portables.
    Cheers - Andrew

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrewausfa Andrew. Thanks very much for the advice. I've been researching the valve portables as I've not yet worked on one. Strange to have a case that looks right but with a different chassis in it! I have a battery eliminator which will work for the Pye but not the Vidor as that needs 7.5v on the LT. I have looked at Paul's circuit and its good but I fancy building the inverter type by Tony Thompson. This is where i was looking www.portabletubes.co.uk/sitefiles/ptbattelim.htm

    • @Andrewausfa
      @Andrewausfa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Radiocruncher Yes it fits though so no-one will ever know... :) I didn't realise the Vidor was a mains/battery with it's 7.5v LT. The suitcase portables always seem a bit unloved by most collectors, including me as I don't have any. I think I bought enough parts to do two of Pauls version so I'll have to make a 7.5v one now.

      Hi Rafa. Yes they did make 8 track cartridges which work very well. There’s not much demand for that though so probably not worth much. Is it a car version?

    Hi, fellow vintage electronics guy here from southern California. I inherited my great uncle's 1954 Zenith am FM console phonograph. He passed in 94 at 100! He told me he bought it new. It works very well and the cobra matic turntable works too. I use it quite frequently, but an electronics guy I know says I'm risking disaster by not having all the CAPS and other stuff replaced . Basically an overhaul he says. Is this true? I've been using it since I received it in 94, with no issues at all. Also, all the tubes in it still say Zenith. I would appreciate your advice. Thank you.

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John and welcome. I think if vintage valve equipment is kept in use it’s less likely that the caps will go bad as quickly as if they are stored for long periods. I’m not very proficient with valve gear but there are some critical capacitors feeding the grids of the output valves (tubes) that can damage the output if and when they go bad. Also any old electrolytics will probably need replacing as they will have gone high in value and could cause hum and damage to the other components. Good luck

    • @1958Cadillac-v2g
      @1958Cadillac-v2g 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Radiocruncher Thank you for your reply! I will pay close attention to any sound quality changes. As of now. There is no hum at all and it sounds very good. At 65 years old, I've nicknamed it OLD RELIABLE lol. I did do a dumb thing the other day, I was listening to it when I got a call. So I turned it all the way down. And for some dumb reason closed the cabinet doors. This was about 10.00 am. At midnight I head to bed and notice the little amber light on the bottom of the cabinet was on! I'm like oh no! Open it up and the dial was lit up. I immediately turned up the volume to see if was ok, and it was playing fine. On for about 14 hours! I'll not do that again . Probably added at least 5 bucks to my electric bill lol. Anyway, I subscribed to you and looking forward to your uploads. Thanks again.
