    No criticism here. My nostalgia levels skyrocketed when I saw the tube tester. My only 'criticism' is that you allowed the owner/client to dictate the level of the restoration. Yes, I know that this is your livelihood, but dang! I would have LOVED to see a full restoration!!! The old electronics are surprisingly durable & reliable. I'm not at all surprised to see that radio required only minimal repairs to be restored to operating condition. Good job!

    • @Austeration
      @Austeration  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you once again J.L yes it would have been nice to do the caps, many people watching this video has commented about the same thing. When I do replace the caps I like to pull the guts out of the old ones and insert new ones so the appearance is original. It's time consuming but very interesting to watch. Most people watching though have no idea and I think it would have gone over their heads. Thanks for your comments they are always appreciated 👍

    Very nice, I see so many other “restorers” just absolutely ruin things by over-restoring or just plain making them into effectively a new object with a couple old parts, but this was very respectfully done and made it look nice and function well without losing its original character. Beautiful finished product . I grew up in the 50s in Cuba and all we had was a radio, in which I heard many great shows of adventure and even the beginnings of Rock 'n Roll . My mom would listen to some soap operas at night. Warm memories of those times and of the tubes getting brighter when you turned it on . Had to wait for them to warm up before it came on . I think those radios were beautiful and still are. Would love to have one but radio today is nothing but garbage and commercials. 'd be nice to have one that picked up those old shows, like the one in the Twilight Zone episode ! = )

    The click, as you turned the radio on. The lights of the dail immediately coming on. The slow glow coming out of the back of the radio as the tubes were warming up. Then the hum coming from the speaker, followed by the music from the station. Turning the tuning knob to find another station. Hearing faint far off sound of other radio stations. Then the loud squeals and hums of radio interference coming off the neighborhood radios. Then finding that next station and sitting back to The Shadow, or Dragnet, or Ma and Pa Kettle. These were the Golden Age of Radio.

      @@madmanmechanic8847 come on man, I said that was great to hear and thanks for watching my video. I even said I would check out your first ever video and tried to encourage you by saying your editing will get easier the more you do. Thanks very much for the compliment on my editing skills that is very kind of you to mention, it takes me many hours to cut it into pieces to try and tell a story that makes some sort of logical sense. There are some Great videos out there that explain tips and tricks on editing. I watched a heap of these when I first started.
