    this episode had one of the best examples of how incredible the soundtrack is for this franchise. the song that played during maine’s cyberpsychotic outrage and his death was perfect. it’s so suspenseful and rage-inducing; that build up fit so well. i’ve been listening to that song for days now

    • @pawe1721

      And it's funny how they just took it out of the game lol

    • @Luemm3l
      @Luemm3l ปีที่แล้ว +6

      the amazing thing to me is how different the songs from the game work in the movie. in the game, it never hits you this much in the feels, it is just like in real life when listening to the radio... it is somehow there, it is fun to cruise the city just listening to music, but it does not have that emotional gut punch. That in the game is more with the actual soundtrack of the game, not the artists who contributed with their own music.

    • @Jo_youwhatmate
      @Jo_youwhatmate ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Luemm3l That's probably what contributes to what Cyberpunk 2077 kinda lacks in regard to emotional pulling power honestly.
      Some scenes are just kinda made by the music that's in them, but we never really get that emotional gut punch in the game

    • @Luemm3l
      @Luemm3l ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jo_youwhatmate I would not necessarily say that.... the electric cello in the last track (is it rebel path? not sure atm) close to the end when the credits role had a comparable effect to me, also some scenes with johnny or judy or panam (finding evelyn for example, although there music did not play a role since I do not even remember the track lol), but there were definitely some scenes that were supported or carried by the music as well. Whereas the soundtrack of the radios is just there... "I want to stay at your house" was just the fun pop song and had not that emotional connection in the game, whereas re-used tracks in the show do not carry the same feeling you had from the game.

    • @davidcleare4323
      @davidcleare4323 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Luemm3l thats on purpose though, Tv shows are obviously going to use songs and music to push certain scenes more. The radio music in cyberpunk was meant for, you guessed it, the radio. Not to evoke any emotions. The show repurposed those tracks

    I interpreted Maine's mental landscape as his pathway to becoming a Cyberpunk legend/making it to the big leagues with Night City far off into the background. He's wearing runner's clothing and he's on a track, in his lucidity he realizes he's ran out of track to run on, the end of the line.
    In his last moments he sees David go far past that line, metaphorically passing on the baton to David.

      He also probably was an athlete in his youth, but like most athletes in Cyberpunk, performance enhancing implants take the place of training and hard work.
      The push to be faster and stronger seems very prevalent in Maine, especially after Sasha, and Pillar.
      My guess is after his athletic career fell through, he got gigs as a runner for cyberpunks, and over time to survive and excell he chromed up harder and harder, kept trying to move faster. Be strong, protect his crew at any cost, especially after losing crew mates.
      Not everyone who falls into edgerunning actually does it seeking the glory of being a legend. Many like david and lucy simply had skills and nowhere else to go.

    So David's mom was an EMT aka uninsured TT. Trauma Team is medical service and armed extraction from salaried professionals. NCEMTs are volunteers with many being TT staff off hours since volunteering is highly encouraged. But the EMTs operate independently as volunteers, which is why some folks deviate. Kinda like the EMTs that tried to rob David.

    This broke me. Maine coming to realize what he's done, how far he's gone over the edge, and how everyone now just sees him as some cyberpsycho monster. Maine was a person, he pushed himself too far, and despite all the connections he had, the people who loved him, he's just put down as a monster.

    I love how this entire episode is like a fever dream. Like a bad trip. The dialogue is eratic, the cuts are frantic. You almost always feel like you're losing a sense of what's going on. It sets up the ending so well. You just feel spent and traumatized at the end, unable to fully process what has happened. Beautiful storytelling. Definitely one of the best episodes of anything, ever.

    The deep dive port connects directly to the visual cortex, which allows the netrunner to visualize the network as a reality, which helps to interact with it better, while through a normal connection, the netrunner simply sees the network interface, windows, lines of code, etc.

    It's true that in the game the cyberpsycho missions are often tragic.
    Shards here and there also contain a lot of blurbs about that phenomena.
    David's mom was a regular paramedic.
    Trauma Team is a private company that specializes in rapid response medical services.
    Trauma Team uses armed safety experts and military-trained paramedics to do this.

    For everyone that liked this anime (how could you not?) there is an anime called Psycho-Pass that is very cyberpunk and depicts a dystopian future where a system is in place to "predict" crime and stop it before it happens. (basically Minority Report)

    Maine had promised David his arm cyberware when he kicked the bucket in an earlier episode. That’s what the interaction between them was. That aside, the audio department fuckin killed it in this ep by picking that Ugory track. That funeral-type drone prior to the drums is really reminiscent of Ulver. Rarely is there a case where audio, visual & feeling displayed in a particular scene of a show is this perfectly aligned. Still thinking about this scene a month later.

    They’re called edge runners because they use implants that can take them to the “edge” of the what the mind and body can take. Maine running on a road that abruptly ends symbolizes him running the edge. He comes up to a section that abruptly ends, showing us that he is right on the edge. We see him go over it.

      Also the term applies due to where edgerunners function in such a factionary society. Edgerunners exist as a neutral party, cats paws, the jobs they do are seldom followed by intense retribution because there is little to gain from it
      For example, arasaka is shown to have records of fixers known to do business with their enemies, but they dont just hunt them down, because its inefficient, why burn them when you could buy them? The stolen goods will already be offloaded to their client so there's no profit in it.
      And theres no way to be certain who the client even is
      They literally live on the edges, profiting from dealing with whoever can pay but not being part of any faction. As well as living the single most dangerous lifestyle in night city, no gangs at your back, at most a small crew and some friends. Many edgerunners don't push their chrome too hard, but they still live a live constantly on the edge.

    • @Desdemona-XI

      Also due note, the arguably greatest edgerunner and Night City Legend, Morgan Blackhand fought Adam smasher to a standstill despite having minimal cyberwear

    The game gets even more emotionally involving when you revisit the sites where David and his crew hung out. You can find Rebecca's apartment, David's building, and a lot of the places where characters walked and...sadly....died. There are also items from the anime that were added in the last patch.

    To me, at the beginning when Maine stands at the end of road after running, it represents how Maine must’ve seen himself before chroming up: he had reached his peak performance. No more track for him to run. The only way he saw to make himself better was to start getting into cyberware.

    You don't need cyberwear to survive. Cyberpunks are essentially paid mercenaries so the more powerful they are, the better, the more work they can get, the more money they make

    • @mhosni86
      @mhosni86 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Night City, if you don't have cyberware, you're not as efficient at any job as someone else who has, which will lead to unemployment. At some companies some cyberware is mandatory (for example in the game you notice that all personnel working at Konpeki Plaza have gold skin implants, with the implication that if they don't accept to replace their natural skin they will be fired). and a mercenary would not survive against chromed foes without having implants. of course there are exceptions, but they are very rare and under special circumstances.

    • @Desdemona-XI
      @Desdemona-XI ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mhosni86 also note, if the Konpeki staff get fired, all the corp mandated implants are repossessed. Meaning the staff has to have enough saved up to afford a backup skin implant. Or they get to walk around skinless till an infection kills them.
      That said several legends of night city were actually only lightly chromed, Morgan Blackhand for example had very minimal cyberwear, and fought adam smasher to a standstill. Granted a much younger smasher who hadnt gone quite as full borg as he had in 2077. More like how adam was in the silverhand flashback
