I was very lost with the terminology until probably ep 7 or 8, but rewatching these reactions, knowing the lingo better, makes me REALLY appreciate this more and more! And this list just made it even better🙌

for clarification, a SOLO is a hired gun, called such cuz their good enough to work alone, just many choose not to, EDGERUNNER is not mercenary specific, ANYONE who runs the "edge" between ganic and chrome like Maine, David, Adamsmasher, are edgerunners, that's why the series of BD featuring cyberpsychos who are killed/recruited by maxtac like what david watched of the commander at the beginning was called the "edgerunner" series, just thought i'd clear that up, though i think it can also be used to describe someone who lives life outside the law too, but i'm not a hundred percent on that
BD = braindance, a recording of someone's whole sensory experience (not just video and audio, but also touch, taste, smell, the whole deal), usually edited to enhance pleasurable sensations and remove unwanted ones like pain, discomfort, bad smells, and whatnot. By the 2070s they've become the main form of entertainment, though music, TV, radio, books, and even regular old films still exist. David and Lucy's trip to the moon was an interactive BD. XBDs, though, are a whole other beast altogether; underground, usually illegal BDs, often recorded without the "actor"'s knowledge and / or consent, almost always extremely violent and / or sexual. Death, rape, torture, the works, both from the victim's and the perpetrator's perspective (there's plenty of buyers for both). Like snuff movies, but much more common and easy to acquire. The very first scene of the series was one, where David was playing an XBD which recorded the death of the cyberpsycho whose sandevistan David is now using.
Netrunners use their entire body has a source of energy for all that processing power happening in the brain. Just like a PC, burning all the energy in their bodies alongside all of the active chrome inside heats the runner up. The ice baths are the cheap way to regulate body temperature, and the net runner suits are the primary and modern method for it.
Specifically they want to use him to test "The Product" implying its a specific thing they want to test. Of course, we find out later that its the cyberskeleton
Lucy just found out Arasaka is VERY interested in David because he handles the Sandevistan so well. Shes spooked because Arasaka is pretty relentless, Davids gonna be hunted if he doesn't go willingly like Tanaka was suggesting.
I think they haven't put two and two together because they aren't versed in the cyberpunk world. They don't understand just how powerful and ruthless the corporations are in this world. They always get what they want in the end. By either carrot or stick. And it seems the carrot of financial aid is not working on getting David back. So eventually they will turn to the stick.
This whole episode was about reaching your limit. Maines flashbacks was him reaching his limits, end of the road for his organic body. He’s so addicted to improving himself he reached another ending in the road, but this time it was his mind.
Just so you know, the BD scenario that David got left in were the true, unaltered memories of Lt. Norris, the first Cyberpsycho in the show. The only differences are that David is in Norris's place, and it wasn't prettied up for entertainment purposes.
So in the cyberpuink universe, these are the roles: Fixers (like Faraday) are like middlemen. A client needs something done, they go to a fixer and the fixer will leverage their pool of talent to find one for the job. Solos (like Maine, Rebecca, Pilar, Dorio, and David) - Basically their term for mercs. The muscle of the groups. Netrunners (Kiwi and Lucy) - The team hackers. They specialize in searching the old Net and using "Quickhacks" on people. Because people have at least some form of cyberware, they can often hack them when in line of sight. They can perform things like short-circuiting the cyberware, overheating them (what lucy did to the cyberpsycho in episode 4), etc. - the bathtub ice bath that lucy used in episode 3 or 4 is used to cool a netrunner down because doing a deep dive into the old net (our modern day internet) will cause their body and cyberware to overheat. This isn't the norm per se because most people will have a specialized chair and suit in its place but like all things requires money and getting that puts you on someone's radar (basiscally might as well be a big sign that says... I am a netrunner. hunt me down!)
I always look at Cyberpsycosis as a parallel to body building / modification and the things people pursuing / chasing an ideal will do to themselves. Sometimes performance medications, work-outs, and even surgery brings a realization of those ideals. Sometimes it leads to choices that are... self-destructive.
It's a solid comparison for sure. Just look at people who go too far with plastic surgery. What starts as a mild attempt to modify oneself quickly slides into the realm of addiction - and that's just for the sake of beauty. Imagine how easily one could become addicted when the end result is physical performance that exceeds the most accomplished trained athletes.
The creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG said the main inspiration behind cyberpsychosis was roid rage. There's therapies for it, but part of the problem is a failure to see there's a problem.
Also Maine isn’t prideful but there’s literally nothing else in night city lol it’s either go hard and try and make it big for a little or nothing. Also Maine is in a hallucination but David and the crew where special so he could still see them.
One of the problems with downgrading is you can't do your job as well. Like if your a sniper and someone said your slick super cool sniper rifle was driving you crazy, downgrading to a pistol isn't really an option.
When do you go cyberpsycho and downgrading is easy to understand if you think about it like the tabletop game, everyone has a "set" humanity based on their life, for example David had his mom and the crew, and was studying, had a lowkey girlfriend and stuff so his life was kinda normal, he was a somewhat good kid so his humanity is high, but basically getting implants lowers how much humanity you're working with, and killing people also lowers your humanity, and when you run out of humanity you go psycho. Downgrading basically means you're giving yourself some of your humanity back by using less taxing implants.
ICE = Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics; hardware and / or software intended to protect individuals or infrastructures from being breached by netrunners, often causing mental or physical harm to said intruders. Particularly lethal, hardened, and complex forms of ICE are also called _black_ ICE.

Maine was massively borged out. Given his size and frame, compared the the slim athletic runner’s body he had, he probably had more chrome than Colonel Norris from XBD. The sandy definitely would’ve driven him over the edge, and he would’ve been even more terrifyingly destructive with it when he went.
Faraday (Giancarlo Esposito's character) is a fixer. Now, fixers in the world of Cyberpunk are middlemen, but they do not work for anybody other than themselves - they use their connections, knowledge and influence to arrange jobs between people who wants the job done (either corps or not coprs) with the people who can get the job done (the edgerunners). Thus fixer gains his own reputation by picking the right people for the right job, and also keeps customers from unreliable edgerunners and vice-versa, by using his own judgement of character and skills. And the jobs are off course mostly illegal, like kidnapping, hijacking, robberies, but they can also be quite law abiding grey-area tasks, like, pulling someone out of a hostage situation, find someone a bodyguard, etc.
I love cyberpunk definitely one of my favorite games the short anime is great but I'd love to see you guys react to gundam iron blooded orphans so fuckin amazing
Сyberpsychosis - primarily a game limitation in a board game to keep players from becoming too powerful And according to lore, this is a mental disorder provoked by modifications, characterized primarily by a loss of empathy for other people and obsessions Everything else is individual, not all cyberpsycho immediately arrange a random massacre, although most show aggression The deep dive port connects directly to the visual cortex, which allows the netrunner to visualize the network as a reality, which helps to interact with it better, while through a normal connection, the netrunner simply sees the network interface, windows, lines of code, etc.
Don't know if you guys saw how the opening scene was already a foreshadowing of Maine dying in episode 6 right from the beginning, as he reaches the literal "end of the road" he was running on, as it just becomes a desert, devoid of life.
Most of the locations in the show are taken directly from the game. It’s nice to see as someone who’s spent a lot of time in Night City, but it’s also kind of weird. It’s almost like everyone from the series defaulted on their rent in the year between the anime and game because all the places are occupied by other people in the game. JK’s BD tuning hideout is occupied by a father and son partnership of snuff XBD tuners. Doc’s Ripper is owned by a different doctor. A corrupt cop lives in Rebecca and Pilar’s apartment, etc. Still really cool to see. Especially because there are places in the game that I’ve found that are really beautiful, like I go there sometimes between gigs to just listen to the radio and take in the sights, and clealry the devs thought so too because a couple of them are in the anime.
3:33 Not a Lamborghini, a cyberpunked equivalent to a Bugatti Chiron. If youre familiar with the Chiron, its blatantly obvious that thats what its supposed to be lol
Trauma Team _are_ good, and fast (and extremely dangerous if you get between them and their clients / patients), don't get me wrong... but not even them can bring someone back from death. Even in the 2070s massive brain damage due to prolonged lack of blood flow to the brain is probably beyond what the best medical insurance and implants can fix...
XBD is some serious stuff, including snuff films or perverted hardcore porn. That's why Kiwi is looking David in that way because he was selling that kind of stuff and knows it too, um, disturbingly well.

About the nudity It's kinda whatever in their world and it makes sense if you factor in those are mostly not even their real bodies anymore You're custom ordering the body you want to be in... you wouldn't order a part you'd be embarrassed to be seen in would you? Actually it might be the point... You order custom wheels for you car, do you leave em in your garage? On the flip side, if you can order a 15 inch wang or an EE rack, are they really that special anymore? It'd probably start become more about performance than aesthetics Hard to ninja flip over some borged out gonk if you have a fat pair of milkers throwing you off balance.
These two are pretty dumb aren’t they? They are really slow to pick up on the lingo and understand parts of the plot. I had no experience with this world before but had no trouble getting it all

In TT RPG game lore It can also give them an extra second or so time vs certain forms of deadly black ice, enough time to jack out rather than die.

Therapy makes the cyberpsychosis go away. So does removing some of your chrome and taking some time off.

Arasaka want David due to seeing him handling the sandvistan with less side effects, Lucy seen the file, and she's scared for him.
there is a limit where the body can't keep it with "enhancements", it's just a part of the psychosis.
Down grading your Cyberware only slows down the building Cyberpsychosis and alleviates some stress/pressure, there isn't any "going back".
