Great video zenzo. I love watching you and dean together as a younger fish keeper you and dean have great tips and tricks. I’m glad to see dean got some shell dwellers! The group of six I bought from you a couple years ago easily turned over 150 fry. Keep it up 👍🏽

I would love more information on the type of racking he uses in his fishroom! Supports/capacity etc
The metal racks I use are from a local commercial shelving company. Sorry they don't have any brand on them. They call them their heavy duty rivet shelving. I believe that each shelf will support 2000 or 3000 pounds without distortion.

Oh my gosh Dean, the Ocelatus tank just looks amazing! At some point I want to set up a Shell Dweller tank again! And I am happy every time I see your Discus! They are beautiful! One question, how big are your "standard" breeding tanks? Thank you guys for the great video!
For breeding pairs of discus I would use 20 highs, 29's, or 40 breeders. In my case it is generally whatever is available.

Yes, mostly in the fishroom. Easier to keep clean.

Hey Dean! YourDiscus looks like mt dream Discus from Aquariun Books in 1995,bthen you could not get them under 1000 US per fish! Thanks for sharing all you knowledge all the time. You Should have a podcast. Atleast The First Thursday or Saturday every month. And maybe skip some holidsys, that is like 8-10 in a year.

What size outdoor tubs are the little ones with the hyacinth? Seems like a perfect size to have outside on the patio. Thanks!
I’m not sure. Maybe like 30 gallons or something.
They are whiskey barrel size. Note: not wine barrel size, the two are different. I got the liners at Home Depot and found the barrels on Craigslist. I think they are 25-30 gallons.
I dig overgrown tanks. I want plants over every square inch of my tanks.

I see alot of fish that are sold on Aquatic Arts and I keep wondering if Dean is the breeder they get their supply from.
No. He sells his fish to the Aquarium Co-op retail store.
What’s the green water tank used for?
Sometimes for raising things like daphnia, which in turn are used for fish food.
Sometimes for first food for really tiny fry.
Common name for the L397 is unofficially Red Tiger which is bizzare given they are more orange certainly when older. The L306 however is the same family much prettier fish which is red and holds its colour better and is unofficially the orange tiger?
What substrate did you use in the gold ocellatus tank?
Aragonite
@@TazawaTanks thanks. I heard him say that in the breeding room but his office tank didn’t look like aragonite to me. It looked much finer. But maybe I just couldn’t see it well.
@@johnmeacham8144 yeah, it’s an aragonite sand. It comes either as like a course sand to a fine sand. I have both types too.

Yes. It can work well. I have some in one of my Tanganyikan Cichlid tanks.

We went out to Italian food, Dean knows the cook as he worked in the resturaunt next door. Zenzo and I had Lobster Ravioli and I can't remember what dean had pasta with somethin.
