Those of us who are blind have just as much potential as those who are sighted, we jus require different skills to tap into that potential. I am beyond blessed to have had so much support along my journey to tap into mine and I truly hope I can help others tap into theirs. :)
Please know that I am not making this video to PROVE the legitimacy of my blindness to those who doubt - I don't feel the need to prove my disability to anyone. I simply use their comments as a guide to know what misconceptions may be out there, misunderstandings exist, etc. Those comments help me understand what you want to know and other topics and ways I can educate the sighted population on the blind community. :)
I use and NEED the skills I spoke about on a daily basis to get by and that's why they are as good as they are. Please continue to let me know what you're curious about and what you'd like to hear more about or learn about and I will continue to do my best to help educate from my perspective!

Hey Molly, what's the longest someone has gone without realizing you were blind?
I suppose people realize faster in real life but I bet you could make several video's without people realizing.
I of course believe you're blind

The 23 year comment hit hard. I'm gunna suck at being blind. Oh well, I'm not terminally ill, so imna call this pitty-party to a close and go do something. Thanks for the video, Molly! I do really love all your videos. They are tremendously reassuring.

I'm so glad you find my videos helpful! Trust me, you won't suck at being blind! haha With RP the progression of vision loss is so slow you'll have so much time to adjust. Once you throw yourself into the blind community you'll have other blind friends to help teach you and professionals to guide you through the transition as well. It's scary, of course.. anything unknown is, but I know you'll be just fine. :) I'm here for you and so is the rest of this community!

It's just after midnight right now and I'm in the middle of a blindness educational binge, but I thought I'd stop here and leave a comment telling you how happy I am that I found your channel. You mentioned in this video that for some of your viewers, you're one of the few, if not the only, example of a blind person that they'll interact with, and at the moment I fit that bill. I've only been watching your videos for a few months, but even in that time I've learned a lot and I've become a lot more open-minded on issues I hadn't realized I'd been ignorant to. Even the things that are your normal, like Gallop's commands and how you "look" at things, are interesting to me and something that I as a sighted person never really had to think about before. So I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you Molly, for being here to entertain and educate me and the rest of your sighted audience. Much love 💖💖💖

I experienced muscle memory at its best when I was cleaning the makeup station in my bathroom and while putting everything back to its place I started arguing with my brother.
I didn't pay any attention to my actions and didn't even look properly at what I was doing, but at the end I had placed everything perfectly on the usual spots. My mind just directed my body through the sensorial signs while keeping also focus on another thing that totally distracted me from what I was doing. And at the end I was shook cause I looked at my bathroom and I didn't remeber putting things back in their place, but there they were.

Molly, every one of your videos are an inspiration to me.
I have optic neuritis (where my optic nerves get inflamed without any seeming cause) and it causes damage to them each time, so with every wave of it I lose more and more of my eyesight. I found out I had it on my 18th birthday, by that point I had almost lost all sight in my right eye. I'm going to be 20 in May, and by now I can't see from my right, and nearly half of my vision is gone from my left. It's really scary, knowing that any day I could wake up and another wave of optic neuritis would have hit and I could be completely blind.
I just wanted to tell you that you are incredibly brave for doing what you do and making videos. You inspire me. I'm scared that I'm going blind, but it gives me hope when I see people like you living life to the fullest and helping other people who are going through the same thing! (Even if just by showing people that you can do your makeup!) You're so awesome, and I hope that when I lose my sight I can be an inspiration to people like you are to me. ♡

Mashi Thomas I agree; Molly is incredibly inspirational. I also have optic neuritis and it is truly scary. It's been four years since I lost sight in my right eye (lp only) and have roughly 5% remaining in my left eye. It's definitely encouraging to know others in a similar situation and take comfort that we're not as alone as we sometimes feel.

You have helped me so much. As someone who is actively going blind from RP, I have struggled from quite a bit of loneliness and depression. I think it can be easy to want to shut down. Especially without a lot of support. It can feel like no one understands when you are transitioning from sight to blindness progressively. People don’t realize blindness is a spectrum. Or that because I shuffle, keep my hands out, or use a cane, but can still see partially in lighting, I’m a fraud. Your channel has been a guiding light in my life. Reminding me I’m not alone. That there are other young women out there just like me. Who are not only surviving but thriving. I am grateful for all that you share on VIP, RP, disability and accessibility. You give me hope. God bless. 🙏💛

Ok so going on 4 hours of binging since I found you and this video right here has been the one were you have sounded the most serious and assertive so far. Don't get me wrong I liked every video so far, but in this one you really show and tell in a serious, straight forward, assertive and very clear and to the point way how serious this is and how important it is for other to be understanding and accepting of others. Also, you speak in a way that is so empowering for those who are in your position while at the same time letting those of us who aren't know what goes on in your life so we can be more understanding. I watched earlier your "boyfriend tag" video (I told you I've been binging) and what you say about you wanting to be make a difference in the world and make it better is not a dream or goal anymore; it is reality because you are actually doing. Videos like this and all your other videos are proof of that. So thanks from us who are not in your shoes, but understand so much more now because of you.

I've become addicted to your videos within the last 4 hours ☺️ I am so interested in learning more about the blind community and am so glad I came across your channel, I myself have always had pretty great vision to a point where I amaze people constantly with random things like reading small writing on posters on walls from the same distance away as everyone else around me who couldn't read it themselves, not being able to focus on something detailed without having to adjust or being able to make out a perfect clear picture of something far enough of a distance away that nobody else could see and have always thought about how helpless I'd become if I were to ever lose my vision for any reason because I see (no pun intended I swear haha) it as almost a good trait that I have that I wouldn't know how to function without. The content you share really helped me realise in depth that there is so much more to blind people that a lot of people don't fully understand, that it definitely doesn't mean you're limited to anything because of loss of sight and answered so many questions I've had about different types of blindnesses for years. I do have 2 questions though if you don't mind answering and if you have the time of course but what do you picture when you think about how you look? Do you just see yourself in your head just as what you can remember from when you still had sight when you were younger or something like that? And also when you dream do you see people and things as if you still had sight or just as you see everything now? I look forward to seeing more of your videos and learning even more ☺️❤️

Molly, I can relate to just about everything you said in this video. I totally understand what you're saying about the echo location. And no, I don't need to click my mouth in order to hear the sound waves bouncing off of things; I've always just been able to tell. Everything makes a sound, whether it's stationary or moving… Even a wall, A tree, car, stairs especially when they are going up, upcurbs when coming accross an intersection or even a telephone pole. If I'm standing next to a person, a lot of the time I'm able to tell how tall the person is. Growing up I often got , "you're not really blind. You never run into anything. Like you Molly, my response in my head has always been, you don't see me running into anything. You don't witness every moment of my life where I do have those, "blind girl moments." It may look effortless to some, but everyone comes with their own struggles. Ever since I've gotten my guide dog Mozart, my spatial awareness and all-around confidence has increased so so much.

100% you seem like a sighted person. You look at the camera exactly like a trained model would look at a camera. It is just plain amazing to me. You provide society such a great service by showing us how a major disability can be overcome. You look just like my own daughter. Congratulation and you are kicking ass.

Currently blind in my left eye, been that way for as long as i can remember, but i'm also going blind in my right eye, i actually just got approved for SSI last year, and i've been so anxious about going blind, alot of sleepless nights because i am worried about the future, started watching your video's a few days ago because i was doing research on service dogs in case i might need one, but, i love your video's, you've helped me feel better about things and i'm not as scared as i was.
i know i'm going to be fully blind soon as i've recently started to notice other things changing such as light burning my eyes more than usual, my hearing has gotten better, apparently it's noticeable to friends because some of them have began comparing me to Dare Devil...which gets very annoying at times.
but really, i wanted to post here and tell you that your video's are amazing and you are amazing.

I hate how people think you fake being blind. What kind of sick twisted person would do that in the first place?! It's just wrong.
I find it really fascinating how you learn how to do normal day-to-day things as a blind person, it's a very interesting subject.

Hi Molly! I want you to know that I have watched most of your videos in the past two days. Thank you a thousand times over for these videos and sharing your story! I'm visually impaired--born with ROP--a condition from being born at 24 weeks *16 weeks early* and my whole life I've had vision of 20/200 in one eye, corrected with glasses. I didn't get a cane until I was sixteen but like you, I had a ton of ONM training, though its been many years and I have sadly forgotten how to cross a street.
Thank you so much for your makeup videos! i was always too scared to try makeup, but your video inspired me to try wearing some! I also really appreciated this video about spacial awareness. Since i do have a lot of usable vision I can get around in familiar areas pretty well, though I do find that I will ht my shoulder or my arm or hand on my right side (the eye I can't see out of) a lot. Recently I had surgery to remove a cataract in my good eye and couldn't see hardly anything for about a week. I got so disoriented, even in my own house, but my family helped me through it! it was still really scary though. I also had to learn to use both a screen reader and voice over a little before and after surgery. I'm still relying on both. I do have a question about voice over. How do you get it to read long articles or emails? I haven't quite figured out how to do that. Also, fast forwarding or re-winding youtube videos or netflix is also tricky.
On the subject of blindness in the mainstream media, this is something that has bugged me for a really long time. The blind community desperately needs accurate representation. I'm working to become an author writing an urban fantasy novel with a character that has my level of vision. I'm trying my hardest to write it as accurately as I possibly can. I would love to see a video on blindness portrayed in the mainstream media and what we can do to fix it.
I'm so sorry for the long comment! I just wanted to give you a bit of my story and to let you know how much your videos mean to me! If you are ever in Atlanta I'd love to come hear you speak and to meet you! Oh! You mentioned that you are 4'`10. I'm 4'10 as well! I'm in my thirties but often get mistaken for a child. Its hilarious!
I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you again for your videos!

Hi I just found your channel, I can't believe that people would think that you are faking being blind. My mother went blind at 14 but regained some sort of vision but she is still is considered blind. I would never assume that someone is faking their blindness because there are some degrees of blindness, My mother can still see but everything is extremely blurry. My grandmother taught her some valuable skills when she was young like turn her head to the sound of peoples voices and other things like that and even though she can see to an extent she still relies on her memory and touch. For example she nits and crotchets and she can do a wonderful job because she goes by feel. It is amazing what you are doing and I enjoy watching your videos.

Molly I can totally relate to what you are saying when I am at home I am well-coordinated and can move about my home freely and independently but once I step outside my front door I am totally vulnerable I use my cane and sighted guide to get around but I am currently undergoing training with an orientation and Mobility specialist and I know that with his help and in due time I will be able to move independently and proficiently thanks to fellow individuals like yourself who motivate and encourage me and knowing that anything is possible even for those who are dealing with blindness so thank you for your videos your wisdom and your words of encouragement I greatly appreciate it

it's really upsetting that anyone would think that a person is faking a disability just because said person doesn't meet STEREOTYPES. Having a disability IS hard, so why would anyone fake it? Please LEARN how we actually are rather than expecting us to fit into YOUR box.
    Great video by the way!

My best friends mom went blind a little over 2 years ago. In the beginning they put ropes and bells in their house so she could follow them into different rooms, but now they're all gone and she knows where she's going. The brain is an amazing thing.
