      Lewa, Toa of Air that’s not even correct, the ts is meant to mimic a letter in Japanese that doesn’t have a sound equivalent in English and is as close as you can get with English lettering. The problem is it’s not actually that hard to do and is basically what sh and ch is but with a different sound, the problem is people just make the t silent rather than try to make the sound and that most people don’t even know it’s supposed to be like the ch and sh.

      LQKing’s Personally Channel That’s my point. I learned how to pronounce the sound from studying a little Japanese, myself.
      I think the problem also has to do with the Ts sound’s lack of noticeable usage in English. Yes, it is used, but usually at the end of words. If it’s at the start of a word, native speakers get confused. It’s similar to how Ng is supposed to be its own sound, but people try to pronounce the G when they see this digraph at the start of a word. (The difference with Ts is in trying to figure out how to pronounce it. And it’s silly that common approaches aren’t the same.)
      Basically, with English by itself being all jumbled and confusing to the point of warranting videos like this one, the confusion and misconceptions worsen when considering other languages and fictional terms.

    The Africans in Sadie's story mispronounce "Elephant" for a reason
    A J in German is pronounced like a Y in English, making that guy's name YO-hahn
    Military types have a tendency to bend acronyms into pronounceable words, so "Eva" would probably be very common among the Spartans
    If you're having trouble with Tsavo or Czar, try beatboxing boots and cats, and then isolate the "ts" sound, since that doesn't belong at the beginning of words in Romance languages

    • @lewatoaofair2522

    "German Physicist "Joe-Han" 😂 Pretty sure it's pronounced "Yo-Han."
    Also, (mildly unrelated) what's up with Americans pronouncing German surnames wrong all the time? Einstein is obviously pronounced Eye'n-st-eye'n. Also, Ein, pronounced Eye'n. So for names that end in Stein, why do they pronounce it Steen? It's never been Steen 😂 I hear "Epsteen" all the time, and it drives me insane! Just a side-rant.
    If it's ie, then it's Steen.
    If it's ei, then it's Stine.

    • @bensteinway975

      Yeah seriously. I'm American and my last name is Steinway, so I hear "steen" a lot. So annoying

    • @thenecrolept
      @thenecrolept 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends on the person whose name it is. For example, two US presidents: Teddy Roosevelt said Roose, rhyming with booze, whereas Franklin D Roosevelt said Roose, rhyming with rose. Some ancestor of Jeffery Epstein must've said Epsteen and it just stuck.
      I'm sure your people, whoever they are, mispronounce American stuff too - it's just a human thing.

    • @kahjidovej2211
      @kahjidovej2211 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thenecrolept Aye, true enough. I've always tried pronouncing names in particular by the origin of the country. I'm just trying to think of specifically American words.
      Perhaps even my surname is pronounced wrong. I've heard it being pronounced differently several times. Rowell, beginning with Row, can be both Row as in argument, and Row as in rowing a boat. Since it's a derivative of "de Rothwell," technically I should be pronouncing it like "Roh-well" instead of "Ra-wool."
      You make a good point though. While I used America as an example, it's really everywhere.
