All of the members of Noble team die ironically
Jorge is the heavy weapons specialist who dies in an explosion. He also says he would never leave Reach yet dies in orbit.
Emile is the CQC specialist (his introduction even shows him sharpening a knife) he dies after being ambushed by an elite and gets stabbed in the chest with an energy sword
Kat is the "brains" of the group and get shot in the head
Carter is the leader and goes down with the ship
Noble 6 is the last member and is told "that lone wolf stuff stays behind" at the start of the game. In the level called "Lone Wolf" he dies alone.

    • @lonewolf0712

The main irony about Jorge is that he is the only member that was actually born on reach, but is the only one to die off planet. Jorge's death probably hits the hardest because of how vain it was. His death had no impact on anything, just one less ship in an entire Armada.

"Negative Dispatch, no point." Is one of the saddest lines in the whole game. A ship with hundreds of people is shot down in such a way that there are likely more survivors than dead, but the situation is so hopeless and dire that sending search and rescue would just be sending more to their inevitable deaths.

Reach is when Halo finally mastered that fine balance between everything that made their online multiplayer stand out, but also a campaign that had a visceral story to tell. Still blows my mind that a video game so elegantly wove messages of sacrifice, lost, fortitude, duty etc. into their game about killing aliens. I’ll say that the juxtaposition that Reach was to the rest of the Halo franchise was an experience I hope I have at least one other time before I die. Of course we were gonna lose Reach, and sure everyone everyone I’ve grown to love will die sacrificially but… I do too? 16 year old me didn’t know Halo could do that to me emotionally

    • @soup8786

@lorrinshunt the multilayer was ass and killed off the franchise as major player. Its only casual playlists the ranked was so bad it didn't function and no one played it. This game is a total mess. Halo 3 was so far ahead of this game in every aspect except casual forge crap. Whereas halo 3 catered to ALL different types of players.

For a game that was one of Bungie's escape game from a contract with Microsoft. Now a days most developers would barely try to make a good game to get out of a contract like that. They updated the engine and built a story that fits perfectly int othe Halo universe video games (yes I knwo it messes with the books IDC). Reach has and proabably always will be my favorite halo game.

I don't even know why people have an issue with it contradicting the book, considering the books contradicted the games all the time. Like, I don't think a bunch of Spartans running around on Earth during Halo 2, as depicted in Ghosts of Onyx, is exactly lore friendly either.

    • @Rhydgaled
      @Rhydgaled 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@nagger8216 I can't recall anything in the games which actually states there are no other Spartans on Earth during HALO 2, so it's only an issue if the book has other Spartans fighting alongside 117 during the battle of Mombasa (it's a long time since I read the books, so I can't remember if they did). The game HALO REACH on the other hand completely invalidates Halsey's surprise when she finds out about the Spartan 3 programme in the books. I still had great fun playing through REACH though; just a shame they couldn't have tied it in with the books better (eg. making the whole of NOBLE team be Spartan 2s and Halsey's "what have you done with my armour" comment being directed at all of them not just Jorge)

    • @nagger8216

@@Rhydgaled My brother in Christ, does the phrase "The Last Spartan" not mean anything to you? Because that is what the Master Chief was meant to be, the last of his kind. So much so there's literally a piece of the soundtrack called that. You can't have Chief be the last hope of humanity when you have a dozen of your Spartan OCs running around in the background. And the fact they survived Reach at all is such an asspull. No, I don't care about Halsey's reaction to the SIII's, let's talk about how Eric Nylund bent over backwards to ensure the entirety of Blue Team got off of Reach after CE. Like sorry, don't care, nothing will beat that level of fanfic. I cannot suspend my disbelief that Blue Team is just around the corner during the beginning of Halo 2 like that one terminal depicts, it's just so fucking stupid.

There are so many stories where, some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference, they'll never know if the day was really saved. Another thing about this game is the levels of finesse and detail they put into the cinematography, scripts and line delivery. There's so little schlock here and it truly was their Magnum Opus before not only the fall of Halo, but the fall of Bungie as well.
Fun fact about Reach: there is a second hidden plot in the game; the Zealots that you encounter at the end of the first mission are part of a spec ops legion called the Devoted Sentries whose main task on Reach originally was to search for Forerunner artifacts. After their deadly encounter with Noble team, they were then tasked with the mission of hunting down Noble team and if you pay attention you will see that throughout the entire campaign they reappear again and again most notably when Kat is sniped, Emile is ambushed at the mac cannon, and finally they are the team to take Noble 6 down after many hours of fighting back waves and waves of Covenant.

Great use of theatre for this video man, you really unpacked noble team and reach as a whole and it makes me feel less depressed about how this game used to be what I played every single day. I made best friends through this game, met extremely talented players and video creators who kept this game alive for so long. I lived for this game as a 17 year old living with my parents. I hit inheritor and kept playing for almost 4 more years. I honestly can’t think of a better game till this day, this game hit different.
Thanks for the tribute 👍🏼 makes me miss the days

It’s been my favorite Halo story since forever. Every time I play I about shed a tear. I think Reach has the best directing in the series. Even though the characters aren’t super original, they’re written really confidently which in turn makes all their deaths so impactful and they get me every time. And the music, my god the music, it’s always been my favorite OST. This game will always be near and dear to my heart.❤️

1, 2, 3 and Reach are all masterpieces.
1 gets pts for establishing the entire thing so perfectly. Like Dr. No and TOS. Tough thing to do, nailing it so well rt out of the box. 2 and 3 expanded everything.
    Then there's REACH.....
I'm not going to go into the 50 or so reasons why it's my favorite.
Put simply, Remember Reach. I do

This was halo peak during my time as im a early 2000’s child (2003) I started with halo 3 and played halo 2 here and there, but shortly after there would be odst and Halo: Reach one of my most influential childhood game which gave me more memories than all the other games combined. The story, which places YOU or as he was named noble 6 taking on the first contact with Covenant on Reach with all these awesome and amazing designed original guns, and abilities through the power armor pickups, this blew my mind and showed me that games can have so much more variation within the gameplay loop and story.

    FUN HALO LORE FACT:
The only 2 Spartans who are considered and have earned the title as HYPER LEATHEL are noble 6 and the master chief, to gain this title you must have a head count in the millions or billions, noble six is also a oni spartan operative and used for head hunt missions that are highly classified, and was at one point in line to be head of the assassination against the arbiter

You've scratched my itch for a proper analysis of this game. Its amazing how hollow I found other analysis, it felt surface level. I wanted someone to dig into what made this game's story tick: the desperation and struggle against adversity. I think your addition of a light overview of the stuido at the time was welcome. Thank you
Your analysis of Kat's death also helped me understand it better and makes it more impactful for me. I think its transformed into the most impactful death for me in the game.

Teach holds a special part in my heart where others have halo 2 or 3. They multiplayer was insane and it came out during my middle school years. Made some great memories and met some great people. Experiencing reach at its peak is one of my favorite memories. Being apart of the community at that time, the custom games browser, the campaign, firefight, everything. So much nostalgia and for good reason. The progression system was also amazing. Loved sitting in lobbies looking at all the unique armor and emblems people had.

Something I've seen recently about the fall of reach vs the reach game is some people actually splicing the two stories together in a way that makes a coherent, connected timeline between the two. The summary basically being the spartan 2s we know about (master chief and all his crew) are basically kept out of the fight for a while (the start to middle of the game, basically) due to a desperate attempt to stick to ONI's plan to kidnap a prophet to sue for peace. Then the events of the book start happening about midway through the game effectively, basically when ONI realized they had no choice but to field everything and everyone to protect reach because without reach humanity loses the vast majority of its military production anyway. That's just an interpretation of the two that I like because it allows for a view that lets the book and the game co-exist, sure there may still be problems lore wise or whatever, but at the end of the day it's about fun, and that's the view that's the most fun for me.
On another note, something I love about halo reach thematically is the use of the color blue to indicate hope throughout the game as well as reds and oranges to indicate despair. At the start of the game there is an abundance of hope, and this is seen with light blues everywhere (I specify light blues and will explain in a moment because it ties into something I noticed in the video), in the water, in the skies and in the ice the first time we visit sword base. Then as we fight through the game those blues dwindle, first disappearing after the first major setback when the supercarrier shows up, but when Kat comes up with a plan to destroy said supercarrier, we see the blues return as we fight our way to space and again in space as we look down on the blue oceans of reach...which are being destroyed. Then we get the blue of hope again, not when noble 6 crash lands, but instead when we reach exodus and fight for the future: the civilians and soldiers we save on that mission representing our chance to continue fighting this hopeless war. The blues then disappear again in the next mission where we continue fighting to salvage what military resources we can, then Kat, the member of the team coming up with these brilliant plans and giving us hope to actually win, the one wearing the light blue armor that matches the light blue of hope in the game, dies. After that, the only time we see the light blue of hope again is when we reach Halsey's underground lab and Cortana.

Another thing Halo: Reacj does well is the visuals. Particularly in the Cinematics. It looks almost similar to the style of Neil Blomkamp. Like they were inspired of him making a Halo movie (which he almost did).

This game.... Was and still is a phenomenon. I mean... The graphics alone are timeless. The animations unmatched. The story.... Intentionally dramatic, sad and shocking.
From the beginning we knew the end. And bungie made it clear. Still everytime I play this game, I always have hopes. It's so stupid because I know everyone will die, but I still want them to survive.

    • @SilverViper1000
      @SilverViper1000 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

And also I want to mention:
Many people say noble team has no personality, I think that's a very immature thought. Only because they don't always talk about there feelings or straight out say "I am sad", "I am angry", etc. Doesn't mean they aren't flashed out.
Like you said in your video, their behavior speaks more than a thousand words. Bungie were masters in this regard. Also, these are born soldiers, of course they don't always speak about their feelings and they keep continuing, because they have to. They don't have a choice. They weren't made to moan. They are made to fight. To be the last hope of humanity.

First of all, it took em quite a while to notice that Kat even missed the button on the elevator, but when i discovered this, I always thought it was because she was staring right into the Glassing Beam and was partially blinded. Taking off her helmet was her biggest mistake. She missed the button and sealed her own faith.
Last but not least, the editing at 19:36 is amazing. Mixing all these scenes up together with the Halo 3 commercial soundtrack is just genius.

Another notable small detail in Reach is in the level Lone Wolf. There are corpses of various other Spartan 3s around the level. If you count all of them there are 13 in total. Including Noble 6 that makes 14. This is a reference to the "Noble 14" which were a group of players that tried to keep the multiplayer servers for Halo 2 running as long as possible. It happened a few months before Reach launched and Bungie almost certainly thought the idea of players trying to keep fighting to keep the game going against impossible odds was unusually similar to the last level of the game they were working on.

Very recently, I played Reach for the first time, without spoilers for most of the story. I only knew what happened to Noble 6 in the end, other than that, pretty much a blind playthrough.
This game is amazing, and definitely stuck with me to the point that I had to play the campaign again (First time was split screen on normal, second solo on Legendary). The ending hits even harder when you see the death of YOUR Spartan, the custom avatar that you chose to be... The only other Halo I've played completely was 3, I'm currently trying them out in chronological order and starting with Reach was amazing

I have a passionate love for this game, I first played a goofy playthrough with my friend at first, and we took basically nothing seriously. But once I saw lone wolf, we shut the hell up. I knew that I HAD to go back and try and win what I knew was a hopeless stride for victory. And so after trying five more times, I replayed the game in heroic. It was incredible, all the character’s tiny subtle reactions, the fucking incredible cinematography, all of that, was right under my nose for this whole time. Halo Reach now sits at the top, as my favorite game, and my favorite game experience.
