There’s some serious potential here with Devcon. Considering the Decepticons have their own bounty hunter in Lockdown, it only makes sense to bring him back to face him as a perfect rival. Really hope we’ll see him again someday.

You are officially giving Chris mcfeely a run for his engine oil Rodimus Primal! I've never heard of this character before ever! And that g1 episode "child's play" is the most meta thing I've ever seen in a transformers series.
Zackary Schejbal I remember Devon from Generation One when the episode originally aired on TV on channel 7 (an ABC affiliate here in Northern New England at 10 am in the morning). I guess that makes me an old timer like Alpha Trion.
One of Devon toys is modeled after a Nazi German weapon project of WW2 - The Horton IX the world's flying wing. Any heard of the B-2 stealth bomber in use by U.S. - The B-2 stealth bomber has NO vertical stabilizer, most people don't know that the B-2 is NOT the first flying wing known, it's grandfather dates back to the WW2 and the Nazi's attempt on tipping the tide in the air war. Not to go all history on you all but; by the middle of 1943 German cities were getting flatten by US bombs and Luftwaffe was struggling to defend themselves, the Nazis started several weapon programs, the most well known examples are - V-1 Buzzbombs, V-2 rockets, and the famous Messerschmitt Me-262 jet fighter. However, there is one weapons program that many people don't know of - the 3x1000 project. The 3x1000 project called for a heavy fighter to have of a range of 1000KM, a speed of 1000 kmh, and a 1000 kg payload.
I remember as a kid thinking that it was cool they were in a bar and said "Hey, that other guy has a autobot symbol" and how they didn't know each other. The idea of a autobot doing his own thing was a fun idea.
To me he looks like one of the Sweeps.. It’s also interesting that Scourge was a tracker during his reformatting in transformers the movie. Also interesting that his first redeco was off Scourge’s airframe and that even fan art put him with one of the sweeps hovercraft.
Leaving Slizzardo in space when he became inconvenient was a jerk move. I'd rather they have a falling out or a difference of opinion. Maybe Devcon just doesn't care much for organics but tried to make an exception. Let's keep him mysterious because we know what happens when you try to explain a cool mysterious character. You get the Solo movie.
Devcon reminds me of a less edgy Depth Charge from Beast Wars, in a way. He seemed too preoccupied with his own personal quest to help the cause of his allies at their sides. Who knows...Had Devcon joined the Autobots, his added experience and combat prowess could have helped prevent the Decepticons from forcing the Autobots to evacuate to the moon bases between The Gambler and TF: The Movie(G1)... Dirge, Ramjet, and Astrotrain sure weren't eager to fight him. After returning to watch G1 as an adult and trying to explain the same questions as your video years ago I figured that perhaps Devcon had somehow became aware of the victory over Unicron which led to the Autobots retaking Cybertron, and simply stopped pursuing the Decepticons after TF: The Movie. An off screen "retirement" of sorts would have left Slizardo free to do as he pleased. . No matter what, my impression of Devcon (other than being a complete badass) was always a gray area character and a toned down, somewhat lonely aging vigilante most likely refusing to follow and abide by Optimus Prime's merciful approach to dealing with most enemies..If he wasn't at least lonely I would see no reason to bring a babbling lizard man on a Decepticon hunt Devcon's brand of justice was probably killing them since there was no Autobot justice system that we were made aware of in place at the time of the G1 series..
Definitely a deep cut. I'm a G1 addict and between you and Chris McFeely I always get my fix. I'd like to see a retrospective on Cliffjumper. Survived the movie, but dies in just about every other iteration.
I like how obscure characters get coverage. The Transformers Universe is huge. I hope you will look into characters like Double Dealer, the Omnibots, Powerdashers, Deluxe Vehicles, Deluxe Insecticons and more. I actually thought of an idea story, where there were a speedsters group. (Powerdashers, Jumpstarters, Battlechargers and Blur) Great thing about this, are stories can be endless.
Now this is a character who needs his own book. I don't even remember him from the series although I remember everything else in that episode. Great work, Rodimus.
Great video. As a kid I always thought his name was Defcon, since his name wasn't in print anywhere. Unfortunately unless there is ever an official return to the original continuity via an animated series, comic, or novel, we may never know what happened to him.
Definitely an obscure character, I completely forgot about him. It's a shame the G1 cartoon didn't have him become a series regular and have a toy of him made. He could have been carried over into the movie and season 3 quite nicely. Although I like the idea of slizardo becoming a headmaster with him although for that they'd need to have demonstrated some level of symbiosis between the two.
This is crazy. I just saw this episode yesterday and looked up more information about him. And of course the very next day RodimusPrimal delivers. Great work buddy!
I wish they did a reboot or Re-imagining using some of the IDW/comics of the G1 animated series. Including season 1, 2, 3 and Head Masters, Victory and Masterforce. As always great video!⭐🌟
I'm just imagining a cartoon that mainly follows the Autobots on earth, but there are a few episodes about obscure characters having adventures together.
Devcon meets six shot would be cool has fuck, he's one of my favorite obscure Autobots and its sad he doesn't get enough recognition. The concept of transformers having a life outside of the grand scheme of things in the civil war for Cybertron is such an interesting idea, just imagine it taking a star wars style spin into bounty hunting and space adventure.
3:37 I like how Optimus Prime has to have his hand held like a kid. Plus they are all supposed to be robots, so why are they coughing? lol. 80's cartoons are one of the best.
Perceptor: Well, anything's worth the try, with a little modification to the propulsion core.... Optimus: Perceptor, just do it. Me: I did not se that coming out of prime's voice box.😐
The fact we saw Slizardo on his own and lacking an eye. Made me think that he betrayed and scrapped Devcon. But Devcon took an eye as he went down fighting.
That episode was a definite pleasant surprise watching the DVDs. He definitely could have fetched up in a cameo in season3, maybe in Starscreams Ghost when there were attempted hits on Octane throughout. He could have been casually nursing a scotch on that ship.
Forgot about Slizado's appearance in S3. I would have thought that Devcon bit off more than he could chew trying to chase down Astrotrain, Dirge and Ramjet and he could have died. However, with the survival of Slizardo maybe Devcon thought he better protect Slizado and did not chase down the Decepticons. That being the case IMO it would be awesome if a series set between BOT and the 1986 movie was made and Devcon could appear in it.
... I've always pronounced his name as "Defcon," mainly because that's what I thought his name was and how it was spelled. Either way, I would definitely love to see Defcon/Devcon (whatever you wanna call him) make an appearance in the Siege toyline, or at least a part of the War for Cybertron Trilogy.
Honestly, none of those Convention exclusive or Dreamwave comics really help add to the continuing story of the G1 character of Devcon. I'd like to think, that he couldn't really travel around in space with an organic being for long periods of time and they parted ways. Eventually Devcon made his way back to Cybertron, and enjoyed the new Golden Age of Cybertron shown in The Rebirth Part 3. Also, I would love to see Devcon get an official retail figure in the Transformers Siege War for Cybertron Toyline, as he would fit in perfect for that world. As far as a retool though, as Hasbro tends to pick those characters, I am unsure what he could become other than a Scourge, but that would be post movie.
Remember the Season Three Episode Carnage In C Minor? Maybe Hot Spot was meant to be Devcon. Hot Spot was shown firing shots next to Defensor against the Constructicons.
I remember clips of Devcon, but I haven't seen the episode that features him yet. I keep intending on finishing the second season. Never saw it as a kid, and in fact never saw all of season one. The episodes that got me into Transformers as a kid were Divide and Conquer, Fire in the Sky . . . shoot, I can't remember the episode title where we meet the Dinobots for the first time. And a couple others. That was it. And I was hooked. Then '86 happened and . . . never went back. Then I was FINALLY exposed to Transformers Prime two years ago and I really wish I had known about it sooner. Because there was a lot that I really liked about the Aligned Continuity that I wish they would have kept. They hashed that continuity so badly it's not even funny. Generation One had the same problems. Omega Supreme claimed to have known the Constructicons on Cybertron and named them the key suspects in the destruction of Crystal City - and yet they were never BORN on Cybertron. They were built on Earth. Either way, it would have been nice to see more of this character. Imagine . . . the Autobots actually have a bounty hunter. Never thought it possible, but I suppose in some ways it makes sense. Does it? To learn that he just dumped the little green guy too... what a jerk! But then not all the Autobots were angels, were they?
Devcon too bad we only saw him once in the G1 cartoons. Maked you wonder who else was out there and doing thier own thing....Autobot or Decepticon!!! Keep the videos coming Rodimus.
I doubt the creature in Grimlock's New Brain was Slizardo, but just a repaint or random coincidence. Unless Devcon died in between the show and movie, forcing Slizardo to take up with someone else, it's doubtful that version of Dev would do that to him as his character wasn't like that. Most likely, they either survived together or died.
I wouldn't be surprised if devcon got a siege toy, considering characters like night bird and spinister have, and with it being the 35th anniversary of transformers this year they seem willing to take chances when it comes to toys (unicorn for example)

It's possible Hasbro could resurrect him for a figure someday, but sounds like a character someone like Impossible Toys would tackle if they were still around. I still wouldn't discount Hasbro completely though. Maybe this vid will give someone the idea to use him.
TheMelvor I like Perceptor but I think it's just funny to poke at him. He's often being helpful or saving everyones asses when getting bitched at...even by Prime. And the fact he's an intellectual who sounds just a touch gay gives the impression he just getting bullied. He was a great character and a great looking toy too.

Way to go Prime!
Perceptor is the Rodney Dangerfield of Transformers. He gets no respect.

I like Perceptor but I think it's just funny to poke at him. He's often being helpful or saving everyones asses when getting bitched at...even by Prime. And the fact he's an intellectual who sounds just a touch gay gives the impression he just getting bullied. He was a great character and a great looking toy too.
Amazing job on your videos dude!!! There so cool to watch!!!
"Perceptor, just do it." Best optimus line ever.
Great video Devcon is my favorite autobot bounty hunter of all time.
I actually always thought it was Defcon. I think they even had him listed as such in the old paperback books Cybertronian Transformers TRG.
The Gambler was 1 of my fave episodes BTW
Lockdown vs Devcon. Needs to happen.
I looooove the idea of a Devcon/Slizardo headmaster. Awesome concept!
I would so buy that toy!
Wouldn’t a Chip/Prowl Headmaster be awesome too? Although considering what happened to Prowl in _TFTM_ maybe not!
I just watched these episodes.
