Metropolitan Line locos

  • One oddity of the London Underground rail system was the use of these electric locomotives hauling standard rolling stock on the Metropolitan Lines. The trains were hauled as far as Rickmansworth where they would be replaced by steam engines. The practice however ended in 1962 and all the locomotives, except numbers 5 and 12, were withdrawn and scrapped.
Please note that this film has been transferred directly from silent 8mm cine and therefore has no sound.

Back to my childhood - I used to live in the Amersham/Chesham area. Always loved those locos, and was also enamored with the Met "Dreadnought" rolling stock. Used to hang out of the window in the tunnel between Finchley Road and Baker Street - the trains would invariably grind to a halt somewhere within. Spent hours at Ricky, watching the changeovers.
I was later at school/college in Devon, in the days of transition from steam to diesel. so was hooked on the diesel hydraulics too - I very much like your series of 'Western' videos. Thank you.

A friend and I have been accumulating these over the years. Many have been used in some of our older projects but now has come the time for clips to be released through our TH-cam channel.
