My 3y/o loves his! Yea I got one for him too, now he can fly outside with dad and do it without help, he does still have some trouble with launching tho, most times he ends up cycling through the modes even tho he is holding it down, my father was having the same issue at first too, but seemed to have it down within a few launches. His favorite thing is to do it have it follow him and he tried to get it to either crash or lose him, in the right lighting conditions he isn't fast enough to lose it lol
The best it can do is HD at 60 frames per second. This will give you half speed. But 120 FPS is what most people consider the threshold for slow motion.
5:12 Warning! DJI acts like a drug dealer. I bought a cheap DJI Neo, two days later I bought an additional battery. A week later I bought a remote control, two more batteries and a charging hub. Yesterday I heard that DJI is introducing a new, much cheaper FPV kit that fits the Neo. So that no one can say I didn't warn you.😂
Opening statement basically right, w/two corrections. 1. Up until recently, MINI 4 PRO is the best small solution. 2. Batteries? Mini 4 Pro gets nearly 3x the flight time of Neo (granted Neo batteries are extremely small and pocketable. I carry 7 in various pockets.) Terrific video by the way!
I just bought one for the very same reason you are - mountain biking. I already own a DJI Mavic 3 Classic and DJI Mini 3 Pro and both have been hopeless in following me mountain biking. Either loosing me and stopping or hitting tree branches and crashing. Plus having the remote is a big pain in the @ss. After watching your video, I'm hopeful 😉
It's very easy for DJI to add an extended battery, as I have tested my Neo and it's more than capable of carrying a 50% bigger battery without affecting performance much. Obviously, it will not get 50% more time, but even a 30% increase will bring it close to 20 min. Also people are quick to criticise the drones lack of speed for tracking, but a software update can fix that, considering the drones top speed in FPV manual mode is 16m/s or 57kph, it should be easy enough to increase it's tracking speed?
A recent firmware update increased its follow speed to 32-35kmph. DJI hasn't published exact numbers but testing shows these numbers which are a great improvement.
I'm most interested in spotlight mode. Is it possible to fly the drone manually to a certain location up ahead (with a remote, FPV, etc.), then put it into spotlight mode so it will capture you coming by? Essentially leap frog down the trail?
I've never tried it but I would doubt it. Spotlight wants to see you so it knows who to watch. I generally avoid breaking out my phone or a controller as that is more hassle. I'd rather just walk down the trail, set it up then go back.
This was all shot using the default settings so literally "press and go." They can be changed using the phone app, but part of the goal was using it in the simplest way possible. So follow was medium distance and flat height (head height)
@TroyOnTrails you're wrong. I own 2 neos. In the last option you can change between direction track and the other two. Everyone who has the knows about it. YOU'RE supaed to be the one finding this stuff out. You're doing the review!
@ yup. You're right. I was wrong. I focused only on the options without a phone or controller. As you mentioned, you can add these modes with the phone app. Obviously I haven't ventured there yet. I am far from an expert with the NEO. This was more of a test to see how it handled my key scenarios than an in-depth review. It does much more than what I covered and, apparently, more than I knew too.
Our club would like to record pickleball matches with a drone autonomously. Do you recommend using the DJI NEO or flip? If so, how would you set up the drone?
Your biggest challenge will be battery life. The NEO will only stay in the air ~12 minutes. I don't have any experience with the Flip so can't help there. Your best bet would be to have someone fly the drone while you play. Spotlight will work to track one player automatically but if you want the whole court then manual flight is your only option.
@@TroyOnTrails thanks for the guidance. pickle ball games last about 15 minutes. the intention is to spotlight one player by having them 'palm launch' the neo in a mode where the neo moves up and out of the way in a spot where an "out of power" landing is not an issue. These short clips are primarily educational. I've been using an iPhone on a tripod and am thinking of a bit of variety .
If you use Spotlight, a player can launch it from their hand and the NEO will track them but stay in one place. So you can set the NEO out of the way and get some good shots. It might be fun to set it low in front of the net or high above the net too.
PS. Neo's secret is twofold. It takes turns the way the subject (you) take them. Wide and around vs. Cutting corners to get to you. As long as you don't walk ride run into things, it wont either. Secondly it does use the single camera view to avoid and stop if necessary. Magic formula. Oh, right.. thirdly, it has recognition so it generally won't switch subjects ( stays loyal to the guy who brrings it to the dance, woods, field) This has already shown up on Air 3S. The bog green subject box is supplemented by an amber box... around people's faces. Yep, similar subject recognition. The next round of products are going to be incredible 😲
Impressive but the video quality leaves a little to be desired. Perhaps it's my 55" HDTV but it looks fairly blurry. Still pretty cool but I'm not too excited about having to slow my speed for the drone. Thats bs
Yeah. It's 4k but there's different quality levels of 4k. You Tube's compression doesn't help either. I find the Neo's footage looks a little over sharpened before TH-cam.
If you use direction track it tries to stay I n front of you. But once you turn it will move to the side. I don't think this is an official feature, but it seems to be it's behavior.
@ yes. I'm hoping for the same. 57kph speed while tracking is unlikely but to compete with the Hover Air X1 Pro Max it'll need to track faster. I suspect it will. (No insider knowledge fueling that statement)
Not impressed with the follow speed. The only time I ride trails this slow, is uphill or on a very technical section. Even with the firmware update, it’s still pretty slow. Also the battery flight time is a joke. You end up needing to carry 5 batteries if you want to get 60 mins worth of flight time.
I don't spend much time above 35 kmph so it sends to work well for me. I would like longer battery life but I never try to get an hour of footage as nobody wants to watch me ride for an hour.
@@Alex-pp4wj I did a brief test of the new firmware and it kept up quite well. But then my NEO died. I got back my warranty replacement but now it's raining. In the Pacific Northwest they're won't be many dry days for a while.
The DJI NEO is just $199. Pick one up and help out the channel by using this link. amzn.to/4fgBmFN
This might be the best Neo test I saw on TH-cam.

Thank you so much! Your comment means a lot.
I'm impressed 😮 just got my Neo today, I intend to use it for cycling, enduro, snowboarding and off road with the car.
Some of those faster activities may be a challenge in auto track mode. But with a controller, it should be able to keep up.
@@TroyOnTrails I know it has a slow speed (20 km/h) I got it for slow moving scenarios. Thanks.

Forget about snowboarding. It does not handle well elevation changes.

It's a fun drone. Enjoy!
It's quite an impressive little drone. I love it.

I haven't had a chance to test the speed increase after the firmware update. But think it will be great. Be sure to update your firmware first thing.

My Mini 3 Pro would suddenly start following other people sometimes. The way the NEO recognizes me always is impressive.
so the drone doesn't have obstacle avoidance? how it can manage to pass through those trees?
It uses the camera. I don't know exactly how it works but a big part of it is filtering your exact path as closely as it can.
It follow exactly like your path. Don't cut corner to follow you. So as long as you don't meet obstacle in your path, it will fly safely
