Liverpool had massive support , every lad I worked with went the game. Liverpool took 30-40 thousand away to Wolves in 1976. Utd supporters came from all around the country in those days but Liverpool was local only with only a handful from outside..
Glad you put Sheffield United ( and Wednesday) in there. Sheffield United was a strange ground in the 70's, up until 1975 it was 3 sided with the cricket ground being there. You could walk all the long way round to the other end. Don't remember away teams coming round to the Kop, but a few times United went round to the away end before it all kicked off. Remember Bobby Charlton saying that you could tell if Sheff United were winning by the ball boys, if Sheff United were losing they would run and fetch the ball off the cricket pitch, If United were winning, they would just sit there and say fetch it yourself.
@@philwoollin6470 ha ha 😂 The old Leeds took thousands nonsense. Remember Elland Road... the old stand, the Blades had sold all the away tickets so hundreds of Blades bought tickets for there and took that from Leeds, I was there that day.

Man United took the Boothen the first time I went to Stoke, back in about 72. Chelsea along with man united and Southampton in the cup were all given the Trent end as a trial by forest and old bill. It stopped away fans getting attacked walking past the Trent end on their way round to the old east stand where at that time forests main mobs were also waiting and were standing. There was a massive write up by the club chairman following the Chelsea game the following home game explaining why they did it so any Chelsea telling otherwise is bullshit. Some of them did end up in the east stand and the fighting ended up spilling onto the pitch. Was carnage all over outside as well.
@@waynearnall6588 Yes about 3 or 400 Forest lads surrounded them in the East Stand and around 100 Chelsea fans had to jump over the wall on to the running track to get away when Forest attacked them. It was shown that night on the evening news on tv.
