I like this MUCH better than the released version. Nothing wrong with Elton's voice, of course, but the vocals practically fade into the mix in the released version. Here, Lennon is clear and strong and sounds great.
Listen to the quad mix that Lennon himself supervised. It’s off of 8 track and is uploaded here on TH-cam. Just a killer mix this song has on it. The whole album sounds great mixed for quad (but in stereo)
Lennon and Elton have such similar voices i could never tell who does what part ❤ 2 geniuses combine to make such an uplifting funky song , rip John never forgotten x
It has an SNL theme song feel. But John's song was released a year earlier than SNL. IMO his song influenced not only SNL, but also was a forerunner to the significant use of the saxophone in 80s rock songs. Like much of his career, he was ahead of his time. I imagine he didn't play the sax or write that part for the song, but I expect he had to approve it for it to be on his song.
I really like this stripped back version of Whatever Gets You Through the Night . Always loved John's Voice. Walls and Bridges is my go to. It's so underrated. There's a Acoustic version of No Body Loves You when your Down and Out which is much better than Record Version. I would love a WALLS and BRIDGES BOX SET. YOKO it would be a Wonderfull Gift to the World.
I heard a stripped down version of Going Down on Love without the horns that sounded more rockin'. A box set would be nice. Maybe Yoko doesn't want to be reminded of this period when John made great music without her?
Never SAW this before! I've heard the song & it always made me think of Saturday Night Live - not to mention the same city. I will still never forget that morning my Dad told me about his death the night before.
Almost as if John were alive today. Wonderful. Also, such splendid work from Bobby Keys (his death brought my attention here). Great work! Great legacy.
Like a lot of Lennon's songs, they GROW on you. I didn't like this one when it first came out, and now I love it. Isn't John still one of the coolest guys to ever come through rock and troll?
i think elton added a lot to this track vocally and instrumentally. this version would not have been a big hit single i do hear the resemblance to rock you baby which inspired the feel
First time Ive come across this, oddly this footage they ended up using for the Mind Games video instead officially. Very interesting to hear with Just Lennon's vocals. The final album version seems like its more Elton , too much in my opinion.
If I had a nickel for every time a member of the Beatles wrote a song that sounds the SNL intro, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird that it happened twice.
So unfortunate - for us - that John's "house husband" 5-year period preceding his untimely death coincided with the start of SNL and he never had a opportunity to make a solo appearance on the show (not counting that chance lost with McCartney).
Yes whatever gets you through the night it's alright as we all get those nights of insomnia so do what helps you I say ...sleep tight sleep tight tonight.... shhh zzzz shhh I get them many do to God bless 🙏🙏😘😘🙈🙈🙋♀️👎😁xzzzzz ahhh zz
I'd always wondered which voice was John's and which was Elton's. Now I know!
Great song. You can tell he loved NY.

I sure miss this man. We really could use some John Lennon now. ❤
I like this better.. Only john
unexpectedly I recognize the 60's John here. (I sighed)
So do I... John went back to being himself during this time...
His dress sense his lyrics his humour ..omg i miss him so much 😢
Should've been the theme to Saturday Night Live…..
I’ve thought the same thing for years! Every time I hear that intro I say, “It’s Saturday night liiiiive!” 😂
Wow great call there! And it came out just one year before SNL !
Saturday Night Live intro theme in the 70's was almost a direct rip off. Pretty sure that was on purpose.
I agreed.
Every night is Saturday night so just sit tight , because whatever gets you through the night it's alright 🎉
I love it, miss you John Lennon.

I love this version, just wish it was complete.

Only video of this song where the quality is any good.
Cooool platforms John!!!

No hay nadie más grande que Lennon
2022. Awesome. Thanks John. X
I just realized that it takes me infinitely more technology to hear this song than it used to when I heard it on AM radio!
A happy man here. At 58 I get what he is saying,oh yeah I do.
Playing mind games will get you through the night!
What a great man.
I like this version more. Love his tone in this.
Never SAW this before! I've heard the song & it always made me think of Saturday Night Live - not to mention the same city. I will still never forget that morning my Dad told me about his death the night before.
My sister told me about it and how. My childhood innocence died that day. The world was cold and mean now. I was still in short pants.
Almost as if John were alive today. Wonderful. Also, such splendid work from Bobby Keys (his death brought my attention here).

Great Song
So I learned John got the title of the song after watching the Rev. Ike on tv.

Ok excelente!!.
John lennon bad ass man
Can you put Paul's voice in so that it'll turn into a Beatles duet?
If I had a nickel for every time a member of the Beatles wrote a song that sounds the SNL intro, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird that it happened twice.
pretty good, i hate the other "official" video
genius, as much as anything else he ever did....
LIKE!!!!!!
Personally, I prefer the John Lennon only vocals!
Lennon was in his gandalf phase here😂minus the beard 😅
Клёво!!

Guess he added the 3rd verse later..
Good song,I thought I't was sung by someone else, Etta James come to mind.
What is the Beatles poster that John sees in the window ?
Sgt. Pepper on the Road. It was a play for a short time.
Can I hear it without the piano, please?
Is this real?
How in the hell did you get negative votes?
:)
What happened to Elton?....lol
Elton John's vocal ruined this song! This is much better.
SOUNDS BETTER WITHOUT 'THEE bum-bill bee
So much better without Elton.
John lennon bad ass man
