I think you have convinced me to buy this product, because you're the only person I have found to actually mention that you can and should use the thumb stick as a bloody thumbstick! So many people use it for crouching and stuff. The moment I saw this product, I realized what the thumbstick was for! People like me who grew up on consoles and can not mentally move with fingers on But what I think I'm going to do is I'm going to get a 3D model of a PlayStation 4 thumbstick and then I'm going to edit it in CAD to make it fit into the Tartarus, then I'm going to 3D print it and then I'm going to buy the smallest Kontrol Freak I can.

Hey man just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I've actually been using this method since the Tartarus V1 days and I've convinced a lot of my friends transitioning from console to PC to check this keypad out. The great thing about assigning the D-Pad for movement is you can now use three more fingers for other bindings that you wouldn't have been able to use and now you can just use one for movement. Also on TH-cam there is a content creator that you can actually send out your Tartarus to and he will custom fit an actual analog stick in place of the D-Pad. So if you would like to go all out with the V2 I highly suggest sending it out to him!

I've been using the Razer Orbweaver for a long time and it completely changed my enjoyment of so many games. I couldn't get into games like Guild Wars 2, Path Of Exile, and a ton of others until I got used to the Orbweaver. I can play for much longer sessions without feeling fatigued from bad ergonomics.

Orbweaver>tartarus pro, coming from orbweaver, no issues with anything, it’s way better than tartarus pro.
Tartarus cons: thumbpad is badly positioned for midsize hand, keys stutter or stick and have to press again to unstick spamming, not ergonomic at all, no click feels, no onboard memory. sorry tartarus fans, either u haven’t tried orbweaver, either you are fans enough to not see how bad this is.

I switched to the Tartarus v1 right after release about 6 years ago and has definitely increased my ability in World of Warcraft PvP. You hit the nail on the head though about the jump and movement key awkwardness. I have found that this one tiny thing of not being able to jump and move (without using the mouse to move) is debilitating while trying to play especially in a kiting situation. The keyboard has the advantage here because the thumb is only used primarily to spacebar-jump and alt-modifier, while on your current/my old setup the thumb also moves so you have to stop moving to jump and no matter how fast you are your character stops all forward movement. I have made the switch to changing what you use as the spacebar-jump to ctrl-modifier and keybound a different button to jump. I think that if the Tartarus v3 had a 3 button wide space bar next to the scroll wheel instead of those 4 awkward buttons would make it the perfect "weapon". Great Video! Subscribed.

I was thinking of buying this, but the one issue I can see myself having is move/jump. I mean, I could just re-map spacebar to D, but that's re-learning a fundamental concept to cater to the controller.
The issue I have with kbm is movement. It just doesn't feel as natural as with an analog stick.
Overall, kbm is still better, but this is a good transitioning tool for console to PC. If it had a real analog stick, I think it would be a must buy.

Other than the limited edition "Final Fantasy Tactical Assault Commander gaming pad from HORI" (basically a translation of their PS4 controller over to PC, and then re-fitted for even better ergonomics), and the 'we make these in our garage so get in lone' Azeron Keypad; Razer's keypads are it...
Good luck trying to get the one from HORI, and the Azeron one is so unusual mastering might require an advanced degree in hand-dancing...
I've been using one version or another of these Razer pads for years. I've got an earl model Nostromo. I missed the Belkins by a slim-margin... foolish me saw both in the shop when I bought the Razer... and by the time I learned the difference the Belkin's were going on eBay for the price of a private island...
Nostromo was durable, but had a wrist pad the slowly melts to become a sticky mess... Orbweaver's wrist pad is glued on and the glue underneath eventually melts and starts oozing out giving you this weird "Vaseline feeling" while you're gaming, and it has a special D-Pad designed to break easier... It looks like the Tartarus v2 is meant to be a fix to the problems of the others - but still has that weird scrollbar (the one benefit of the orbweaver is that scrollbar is replaced by a standard key).
The software sucks, this is why the Belkin is so highly sought after - it has an actual driver. Razer forces your driver to the cloud, and it sometimes loses track of it...
Despite that these things are great... When the software isn't getting in your way, when it's actually working - they make it so much easier to PC game... Hoping HORI realizes what it has and starts selling it's limited PC Keypad in a broader manner - because that is the keypad that would and should kill Razer's corner on this.

I've been using my logitech G13 since February 2010. My journey to using gaming keyboards wasn't from console but from standard keyboards. I tend to press buttons harder than needed while gaming and I was wearing out my 'W' key on my cheap membrane keyboards. Logitech gaming software works great for me. It's just to bad Logitech doesn't make a gaming keyboard anymore.

I can say if you are moving to pc get one. It is really nice. The problem with it, and this is anecdotal from friends who played on pc for years and tried this, is that if you are used to a traditional keyboard this will feel weird. For someone like me who never played pc this felt more natural. As in if felt like the key location matched where your fingers naturally sit. And the functions on it were really nice.

Every unit i have used has had the same fault, the forward (W) on the Dpad button had gotten stuck pushed down. that is one thing i will say about it. I to can not game on PC without it dho. 11:23 at this point you begin talking about the space bar. Yeah I feel it's pretty low. You have to reach down with your thumb and then push it down even further. I feel like it's a few millimeters shorter than it should be. So I just might go to Michaels and get a little thing a piece of plastic a piece of foam or something and then glue it or attach it to it. Just a couple of millimeters thick. That way my thumb contacts it earlier and I don't feel like I'm mashing down on it. We'll see. I love this product

The belkin n52te is the original. before razor baught the design, and started taking the design solo. All the negitives you pointed out only came about after razor went solo. If you can get an old belkin version, the softwair issues are not a problem. the joypad is taller and the keys are all way more responsive. Iv had both and the belkin n52te wins out evry single time.

Hello GCG. New sub here, great video. I have a trick i use to help with buttons that are "Just out of ease of use" range. Take some Hot glue, Make a dot. If not tall enough, let dry and add another dot a top first dot. Once you try it you will find that the problem that once was is now nothing more than a knuckle movement away. You can also use easy wash craft paints to help blend the dried glue dots once properly cooled. I used this trick in Fortnite to transition/force/learn the keyboard and Mouse after our OG childhood of console dominance (you look about my age, so i assume you know exactly what i mean when i say "console dominance"), Now it is so second nature it will be talked about if ever i make it to pro E-Sports :)

I love the idea of these products. One, they look dope, are incredibly functional, take up very little additional space on my gaming space ect. However, when I bought this device, I had the same issue I have with all Razer keyboards. I HATE the switches. I mean HATE them. I don't know what it is, they just feel really bad to me. I wish there were more of these on the market with options for switches. GREAT video though.

Why have these big companies not come out with one of these with an actual analog joystick on it yet? The only ones out there are the occasional small start ups making one here or there but it seems like a lot of users that to move from console to pc are looking for something like this at one point.

Have you tried to set a standard for button layout? You should have the option to do it automatically or manually if one wishes. It's amazing how boring, frustrating, and useless it is to configure what each key does per game or software (and you could even use it to work if you could only change those keycaps), that's why people stop using them. The Hori Tactical Assault Commander Pro did it, but the Razer gaming keyboard is more comfortable. I think the worst thing is wasting time programming and configuring everything for each game and software. If you make a "standard like controller" for the button layout, then you just have to copy and paste what the Xbox controller or PS controller does. For example, if the Razer 05 is X/A, then the Razer 04 is the circle/B and I don't know, maybe paint the symbol on the keycap with liquid paper, then it shouldn't be so bad to be able to use it regularly. I don't know when Razer will think more and make an Excel layout or better use standard Cherry MX keycaps just by making a inclined circuit board with a simple flex connector to maintain the inclined shape of the keys. In that way you could have A, B, X, Y and M1, M2 for macros. That please add real sticks like the ones on the Xbox/PS or do a 4-way arrows, 8-ways arrow interchangeable module or a "push button analog stick" like Thrustmaster ESWP Pro Controller did. I mean that Razer finally made analog buttons with the Razer Tartarus Pro (but they don't work well either because it doesn't recognize the height at which it is pressed well) it could even make the second function be with a little bump. I don't know why any company hasn't made it yet, no one has done a good job yet. Razer Tartarus has a good palm rest, but some prefer the Orbweaver palm rest, so you better stop making two types of products, just make one interchangeable. The same goes for the wheel that some love and some hate. Just a button above the arrows? Put two as start and select like controllers. Someone must do it more logically. The only reason why the gaming keypad or gamepad is useful is to reduce hand movements and to be faster by giving you the ability to use a real mouse to be more precise and faster. And if you want to keep the analog pedals that the controllers have for firing, maybe think of an analog click mouse. That's all it takes to create an awesome, useful, and necessary gaming keyboard or gaming controller (it doesn't even have a name of its own). If anyone reads this, please submit these ideas to Razer, Corsair, Logitech, Thrustmaster, or Hori

i dont understand why pc gamers have been stuck with keyboards from the very beginning and nothing has changed. Consoles have a semi-universal, gaming-specific controllers whos technology has been adopted by every major gaming company. Although keyboard tech has improved a ton, the concept has stayed the same; using 4 keys JUST to control movement and binding everything else around it. Game-specific devices should be more common for pc gaming that still allows you to use the control you get from a mouse.

Does the thumbstick register diagonals? I have the orbweaver, and when you do an angle between, for example, W and A, it should be registering as WA together but it doesn't and completely halts movement. So now I'm looking for something that will give me flawless movement in any direction in shooters.
