Actualy I think I found a way to do just that by using only a quest 2 and a kinect v2 and a pc of couse. I first taped my left controller to my kinect sensor then I used a modded sdk for the kinect that made a virtual green screen. then I open up obs and install a plugin that lets me set up a virtual cam (I already had this installed) after I set up a virtual cam I started up liv and chose my left controller as my tracker. After that I started the calibration process. Then I opened up another window of obs and selected liv output in the window or gaming capture. Then I just simply hit record. Unfortunately the kinect sdk is buggy and caused me to disappear a lot and the controller would lose tracking the the camrea holder went too far to the side of me. I still thought it was cool enough to share though.

I'm currently using LIV iOS with my Quest 2, it auto green screens, but this has inspired me to get a better set up together. Now if you could create a filter to remove children and pets...
Thank you so much for this video! I'd gotten a handle on the technical side of Liv for doing mixed reality in Tilt Brush with the Quest, but I couldn't find any advice on camera placement for MR capture until I came across your video. I'm looking forward to trying this out with Phasmophobia when my 6800 arrives in a few days and now it'll look even better after watching this.
Getting the camera placement right with a static camera is tricky, because you have to fix it in place long before you get in game, and adjustments are hard. The rule of thirds method does simplify this a lot. Phasmophobia is a tricky one in MR. Relying on a static angle might not produce a better result than just a headset view. Matching the game's dark lighting is also an issue, when you consider how brightly lit you are on a green screen. I have some tricks to solve that which I'll go through in a couple episodes time..
Thank you for these videos! I do have a question about your window cover. What is it and where did you get it? I have one window that I need to cover in my room where the green screen is at.
You know how with SpinSaber and similar mods you can "move the camera" by slowly spinning the playspace? I *wish* that was a plugin for SteamVR rather than Beat Saber; being able to do it in any game would be amazing!

Usually just adjusting the position will solve it, but sometimes you may also need to tweak the FOV and rotation, depending on how accurate the initial calibration was.

At the step of the Capture , when I select the game , I cant find my games that I already purchase in my quest account (as beat saber) , how can I do that?
I may do that at some point, but this series is mainly focused on high quality MR capture, which isn't really possible without a green screen at the moment.
Having a lot of issues with the Go Pro Hero 5 you recogmended. The device is not staying charged when plugged into HDMI out and the output source keeps changing sizes on me.
So is this jsut to allow a 3rd person view or is there a way to mix external camera footage within VR simultaneously? Main application in mind would be to use VR in a flight simulator but be able to see real life tactile controls at the same time. Is that even possible?
This is more about video production than anything else. The term "mixed reality" is getting thrown around for a lot of different things these days. For mixing the real world into your VR headset, something like the Varjo XR3 headset or even the Quest 2 could make this possible, but I haven't seen a good implementation of that yet. The Varjo is definitely closest. I think that's something we'll see in the near future though.
I'm having the issue in which OBS displays the game separately from myself within the LIV app. I can't get it display me "In Game" like it's showing for you.
Hello Touge! Sorry to ask: do you have, by any chance, your despill LUT as .cube format? This would help me a lot :) Thanks and congratulations for your videos!
In general, x264 is less compressed than NVENC so the quality is higher. So if it's quality you're after, x264 is more favourable. The difference is especially noticeable when there's a lot of fast moving details in games like Beat Saber. The reason you wouldn't use x264 for streaming is that it's usually too CPU intensive in that scenario and performance will suffer. Depending on your CPU you may find x264 too heavy for recording also, in which case you could offload this to your GPU with NVENC.
@@TougeVR We've been using NVENC for recording but haven't been able to quite find that quality sweet spot... I'll give CPU encoding a shot, thanks for the feedback!

not sure if youll see this as this was posted almost a year ago but i am having issues with OVR - 1 being 'not found HMD so it wont launch at all 2 and the main one being that when i rotate it to get the gameplay on LIV correct it also moves the view inside my headset so while the gameplay is correct angle in LIV it is not on my headset but if i rotate it back or use the room setting function in game the angle goes back to how it was in the first place, im really struggling with this and its making my content look awful :( how do i get the gameplay to rotate in LIV and ONLY LIV? thanks!
Hi everyone! thanks TougeVR for the masterclass, because IT IS a masterclass. I'm trying to stream mixed reality playing beat saber, but i have some troubles. After setting up everything i open OBS/Twitch studio and i see that everything is perfect, but for those who are watching in twitch, the stream is very, VERY, VERY lag, unwatchable. OBS showed me that a lot of frames were lost/dropped due to the internet. When i made a speed test of my internet (not WIFI) said that i have 900 mbs/s for downloading and 700 mbs/s for uploading, however when i start steamVR, LIV and beat saber my downloading and uploading speed drops to 10 mbs/s and 0,2 mbs/s. Someone told me to downgrade the resolution of beat saber on steam VR, but theres no change. I'm conected to internet using a cable (not WIFI) I'm conected to oculus by a cable too.
this is probably very random, what mod do you use to disable debris but keep cut particles visible id like it to show the bits of dust when slicing a block but not the whole block being slit in two ive tried tweak55 and beat saberplus but they both hide the debris and the particles
So, the camera built into my laptop is not realistic? Because that's what I've been trying and I'm not getting very far. Not sure if that's why, but once I go to add a chroma filter in OBS, I pretty much give up because I no longer understand what's going on, nothing's working, etc.
As long as your laptop can handle VR, I think LIV should be OK. The laptop camera should be OK too. It sounds as though you're trying to add this camera to OBS, which isn't what you need to do. LIV needs to use this camera. Close OBS for now, and just run through the steps of getting LIV going. Once you've got everything running in LIV, then try opening OBS and adding the game capture source for LIV.
@@TougeVR Okay, that's good to know. I started with LIV, then went to the Oculus Mixed Reality Capture tool because the instructions seems a bit more user-friendly, now I'm back on LIV because I got stuck at the chroma filter in OBS, though I'm not even sure if I screwed up before then. Like I could see a distorted image of my game in OBS, but beyond seeing myself on the laptop camera, never got the mixed reality effect. Hopefully I can figure it out between OBS and one of these two programs. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate that.
I used a GoPro 7 for a while. The key to stop overheating is to remove the battery. Not sure about it switching angles, I just set mine to Linear once and it stayed there.
LIV has a stabilised FPV option built in. It's not perfect, but certainly a lot better than not using it. I didn't cover that function of LIV in this video because it's explicitly about Mixed Reality. For the same reason I don't mention avatars.
I'm gonna be honest, I've watched this about 10 times already. I need the next episodes!!! Also, how did you get a moving shot with the quest? Like srsly...

not sure if youll see this as this was posted almost a year ago but i am having issues with OVR - 1 being 'not found HMD so it wont launch at all 2 and the main one being that when i rotate it to get the gameplay on LIV correct it also moves the view inside my headset so while the gameplay is correct angle in LIV it is not on my headset but if i rotate it back or use the room setting function in game the angle goes back to how it was in the first place, im really struggling with this and its making my content look awful :( how do i get the gameplay to rotate in LIV and ONLY LIV? thanks!
GoPro 8 black it supports if i plug it by hdmi to camlink
Yes, I believe GoPro 8 and 9 are both good options at the moment.
@@TougeVR Thank you very much for the info, very good work is helping me a lot.
Does it necessarily have to be Rosco Chroma key green paint or can you use any kind of brand?
There’s other brands of video paint out there, Rosco is just one example.
I ´m trying to understand how to use it for king spray, how to set the scene focus on my back not the front. Can you help me?¿
At 22:05 in this video I talk about using OpenVR Advanced Settings to adjust the play space as a way of framing your shot.
I'm conected to internet using a cable (not WIFI)
I'm conected to oculus by a cable too.
Thank you for this!
this is probably very random, what mod do you use to disable debris but keep cut particles visible id like it to show the bits of dust when slicing a block but not the whole block being slit in two
ive tried tweak55 and beat saberplus but they both hide the debris and the particles
I don’t actually use any mods like that. The Beat Saber shots in this video are from 2020, so it might look different to how it is now.
We have a GoPro 7 and having issues with heat and it keeps switching camera angles by itself during filming, Do you have this issue with the GoPro 5?
I used a GoPro 7 for a while. The key to stop overheating is to remove the battery. Not sure about it switching angles, I just set mine to Linear once and it stayed there.
How can I stabilise the VR First person view? with WMR or SteamVR, not oculus. The shaking is awful in livestreams.
Thanks in advance
LIV has a stabilised FPV option built in. It's not perfect, but certainly a lot better than not using it.
I didn't cover that function of LIV in this video because it's explicitly about Mixed Reality. For the same reason I don't mention avatars.
does liv work with the oculus store version of beatsaber on rift s
Unfortunately no, need the SteamVR version
Does it work in all games? I wanted to use it in car simulation games or others. Thank you
This method requires that LIV is integrated into the game.
I'm gonna be honest, I've watched this about 10 times already. I need the next episodes!!! Also, how did you get a moving shot with the quest? Like srsly...
Working hard on this!
Hi
Do you know much about the warning error on LIV? I have a modded headset, which I did via android. Since doing so I can’t green screen. Is there a reason why?
wow.... look at this noob's comment lmao
