Just wonderful, I've been looking for "how many times a day should you feed a chihuahua?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Donulian Astounded Dominion - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to discovering the secret the dog food industry is hiding minus the normal expense. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my partner got excellent results with it.

He doesn't eat dog food, he gets vitamins and treats and some kibble but his diet consists of chicken and rice sweet potatoes peas, things like that he doesn't like to eat the same thing all the time and I wouldn't either. Oh and liver he loves chicken liver so I mix that in and I also cut up the bones really small so that he can eat them. Am I doing something wrong? please advise

Thank you a bunch for the videos you create! I have been at a loss to help my dog and it seems like everyone I reach out to gives me a different answer or refers me to someone else rather. I know my pumpkin has an allergy and everyone has a different answer as what to do next. Molly is 10.5 yr old yorkiepoo who has seemed to age quite a bit over the last few months with these horrible allergic symptoms such as increased itching, paw/sank area licking, ear scratching and head shaking, consistent belly scratching etc. watching your videos I finally feel like I have so much information to help her myself! I finally feel empowered to help rather than defeated and guilt ridden anxiety that freezes me. I really appreciate what you are doing/ how you are HELPING these amazing creatures. Molly is my Souls Mate and I feel over joyed that there are answers that can MY pumpkin, as all dogs, like humans, are not created equally. I appreciate the work you are doing! Thank you❤

I introduced pork recently and Greek style yogurt .. spinach and hard boiled eggs.. I grate them into his meal.. 1tsp ish coconut oil.. I’m substituting his treat with pork jerky I made in my dehydrator.. he loves the jerky and coconut oil .. I increased his rubs to 3x a day .. I’m using the pork loin bc it’s lean and affordable.. I’m hoping this helps explain belphritis an any environmental issues.. I tried a chicken diet with minimal change.. I’m hoping something works to clear his eyes up. ..
thanks for your time and all your great advice .. greatly appreciated

Hi Doc. Our dog is only 7 months old. He has had 2 yeast ear infections. When we got him from the breeder he was on a beef "all stages" type food. The vet asked that we change that. After putting him on a chicken bases puppy food for a couple of months he acquired a yeast ear infection. Again, 1 week ago he had another ear infection. We have been trying to keep his ears clean but nothing seems to be working. The vet asked us to try a non poultry dog food. We went to Lamb based. He now has another yeast infection. It is sad that we keep having to use an antibiotic ointment on the little guys.

My dog chews her feet after being groomed, I used to wash her feet in betadine after grooming, then bought a new conditioner for the groomer to use. She also has food allergies, threw up at least 3 times a week, she was a new dog and different breed I wasn’t used to, thought it was normal for this dog. Now I make my own food for her and she’s much better and being white all her tear stains have magically disappeared as well. She hasn’t thrown up for about 14 months now.

Packaged dog food no more ever. Daisy is finally showing relief and healing. With advice from my vegan daughter who is in super shape and symptom free from MS and is now helping others. That's another story.
I have started homemade and she getting better, almost back to a normal. After detoxing her for about two weeks just on steamed veggies. Now I'm figuring out how much to give her and how many meals a day. So far I'am pressure canning fresh wild caught sockeye salmon with skin and bone/ and canned sardine water packed and that is the only 'meat source' starting with about one heaping Tablespoon a day and all kinds of steamed veggies and apple, raw and steamed carrot, banana fruit for snacks all 'organic'...especially yam every meal. I add powdered turkey tail mushroom, green mussel oil, Vimergy brand vitamins, B12, blueberry powder, spiralina and fresh, cucumin, turmeric...all in small doses usually once a day. I feed 3 times a day and watching because after the detox I want her to gain about 2 lbs. to be a good healthy weight for her. I do not give her any grains.
This is not easy but so far she is doing fantastic. I'm no longer having to bath her up to twice a week and that yeasty smell she would get has completely gone. She has nearly completely quit itching, and where she had really bad skin inflammation and bald spots from scratching. Is now healing and hair growth is coming back. She is a white/spotted gold mix breed papillon, she was adopted from a shelter at 8 weeks, looks like a papillon and a large one because about 12 lbs is a good weight for her.
Vet had diagnosed her with environmental allergies. I don't go back to vet because they only want to give her cytopoint ... I know I spelled that wrong. And the Apoquel gave her horrible diarrhea. No more ever again. My daughter used the same approach with her mini pom that came from china and had lost nearly all her hair and itched...that little doll is now cured and has her hair all back.

@sylviah1234, you are one in a million helping your sweetie as you are, and making her receive a life change food and itch wise. It takes devotion and timely dedication to enable that, and I congratulate you for being able to stick to it in today's economy and time consumed days. It's not so easy, but a true relief for your pet. Glad she is improving. These pet Corp should be put out of business with shame for all the harm they do to helpless animals. I believe dry kibble is cooked by laser radiation. When I talked to a young gal working for Iams at the year of 2007, 2008 when food recall scare, she told me she had to wear a special apron (lead) wear no metal jewelry or metal on shoes,
And some others I wrote down but not able to recall this second.
This seems like protection from high intense radiation, radioactive means. And most kibble making facilities are in states where nuclear reactors are located. I often wonder how far they will go jeopardize pets experimental wise. It's very alarming. I m a senior and walk, no auto, haven't ambition nor time to do what you gracefully have put effort into, I wish my circumstance was not as so. Bless you, your pets and family. Thank u for sharing, it's good information.

I should add I had a mix breed Papillian and she was a sweet affectionate lap dog, she was my darling baby, even put a lace bonnet on her, people loved her. I had car then. Took her to Lawrence Welk Village here in California. A young boy had to be in a competition the next day. He was unsure and a bit tense over it. He ask to pet her, she kissed him, never knew him prior and he said I know I shall win tomorrow now, and I found.out he did win. All for the Love of My "Lady"... Take lots of photos, I wish I had more. The affection of dogs can bring confidence and "Miracles."

My blue heeler is 14 yrs old now & I am 73! Guess that makes us both in our 70's. Funny thing - except for vaginal yeasts (recurring) & non-stop & uterine tract infections (recurring) & non-stop, the dog & I had one medical problem, we shared - we both had itching ears for years, that kept recurring & were non-stop. Our ears were both bloodied & sore, from scratching . Only recently did I find out from one particular vet, that the dogs' ear was full of yeast too. There were antibiotics on top of antibiotics, now! This is what I'd like to share. My primary caregiver could not fix my ear problem with cortisone, the problem kept recurring. I asked him to refer me to an eyes/ear/nose specialist who sternly forbid me to stop scratching my ears AND STOP the antibiotic CORTISONE. I did stop this drug & when my ears itched badly, I applied eczema cream, containing natural oatmeal as a treatment. The itching completely stopped & this prevented further scratching & infection.. Long story short, for the dog & I - antibiotics seemingly cleared up the symptom, but did not clear up the problem, the (allergy food or environmental one) but gave us a far worse problem....YEAST! & Believe me..yeast is not forgiving..the suffering is forever & ever. I think vets should limit the use of antibiotics, unless the situation is a life or death one & there is no other recourse for treatment. The cart is before the horse, if you will. The source of the problem still exists! I am deeply saddened by these experiences with my dogs' ear/urinary/vaginal issues that all required antibiotic (drug) treatments for 14 yrs now! I am deeply grateful though I found Dr. Jones' videos. I've been to the health food store lately, in hopes my dog can have some relief from her ailments with actual cures, this time. Words cannot express, how grateful I am to Dr. Andrew Jones. He is truly a Doctor Angel! I recognize all of my dog's food issues in his videos, & feel natureopathic may be the answer to get the dog, comfortable again. I hope my beloved dog will hopefully, get better from all his research & experience with animals, as a veterinarian! . Next to my dog, Tootsie who I love with all my heart, I know I definitely love Dr. Andrew Jones, second best!! ❤️ With warmest regards, from Canada. Be safe & be well!

I have a schnauzer beagle mix puppy, she is 3-4 months old and she had being, licking her paws, scratching and biting her hips and ears. She has recently also losing hair, she has some small bald spots all over her body. I took her to the vet today and he told me she is allergic to grains. Being that you said, most dogs begin to have allergies towards food at 2 years or older, and most puppies have environmental allergies, would you said my puppy is suffering from an environmental allergy or a food allergy?

Selecting good healthy food and turning to herbs for treatment and/or prevention of problems, that are free of antibiotics, hormones, chemicals, pollutants ….

I’m just curious about a puppy. I did a trail of removing poultry and found she stopped scratch and biting her paws but her nose is runny which makes me wonder if it’s a house hold allergy. She’s never had an ear infection. She’s Been to the vet 4 times but she is always considered healthy. I give her omega oil every day on her food and I feed her super high quality food with a bit of pumpkin.

Hey Doc, hopefully you see this message, I have an 8 month old silver lab he initially had entropia which we luckily helped reverse with eye tacks but the more serious issue is his apparent (severe) allergy to corn and soy I guess sorgum which is a popular filler in most dog foods. His case started out about 2 months in to me getting him when he was 4 months old and he became lethargic day 1 by day 2 he cried when trying to get up and by day 3 he was in the deficating position and could barely walk. I took him to the emergency vet (it was Sunday) then to his regular vet the next day to no avail, they ran all relevant tests. When I finally called his breeder the next day he finally disclosed to me his allergies. I put him on a grain free food and he seems fine now. He had no other symptoms like itching or hot spots. Have you ever heard of anything like that? The breeder also said stay away from chicken as it can create a waxy buildup in their system and to stick with beef veggies berries cottage cheese yogurt and fish oil. Also pro biotics we’re strongly recommended.

    • @gaylesmith1752
      @gaylesmith1752 ปีที่แล้ว

Love to hear about the entropia. Is there a chance the inflammation reaction to the allergy is causing the problem initially? Our puppy is 12 weeks old... changed food 3 weeks ago other was out of stock ...she had an eye infection I thought was from crazy puppy play with rest of her siblings... now at vet check told her lid is slightly turned in... and now the whole surgery thing is being suggested. But I’ve read shouldn’t do surgery before 6 months as head / eye shape is not completely developed. The poor sweety.
I’m very thankful to this wonderful channel and community.

My puppy had a long episode of reverse sneezing and yellow nasal discharge. He does itch, but it's not flaky or not losing their fur. The vet prescribe him antibiotics and benadryl, and he has been on it for 5 days. His infection is gone, but he still has a runny nose, and still sounds congested. Like as if you have a bad cold and have a build up of phlegm. Could this be due to something because stuck in my pup throat or is it allergies? He is active, but eatting less. It seems like he loss his appetite. We were thinking he might have food allergies with chicken and its the reason why he bately touch his food unless we force him to by hand feeding. He's 21 weeks old and weighs 50 lbs.

I can't seem to get the Frito chips smell off of him and it's also on me I gave him a bath and did the vinegar I put coconut and vinegar and his ears and have kept them really clean? Will it take a while just keep doing this? I am sort of a hypochondriac when it comes to my dog he means more to me than anything in the whole world LOL I guess I'm asking do I keep giving him vinegar rinses, baths and how frequently if so? I have no problem taking him to the vet. He's been to the vet quite a bit and actually didn't need to be there so I'm trying to keep some balance he is my first dog and of course I am head over heels in love with him!!

Would really appreciate if you make a video about this.
My puppy is almost 7 months old and he was eating Royal Canin puppy development and we realized that this food was not sitting in his stomach many times he would vomit 2-3 hours after eating and its undigested food. as well as whenever he would bark he would vomit and choke on his vomit also undigested kibble. He would also always want to laydown after eating his puppy food. He also always always itches even tho hes fully vaccinated and has a very good skin.
Is it possible that it can be a corn allergy. Because, for the past 3 days ive been feeding him plain rice chicken carrots and spinach and he has been great since then and no vomiting with barking, as well as increased energy level. Thank you in advance

What do you feed your dog now and how is he doing ? Also what breed is this? I too have a small breed that is doing the same thing since he was 8 weeks old, he is now 2 years old. We feed him soft food, and he can only eat a small portion then we burp him after every meal and water intake. When he plays with toys or barks he will throw up as well if he isn’t properly burped. He has had so many test runner on him.

My one-year-old boxer has been getting hives since she was about 8 months periodically. It has been less frequent during the colder months. I’m going to start feeding her the ground turkey recipe you suggested. I am currently feeding her a kibble with fish or turkey rather than chicken and I think that has helped. Any thoughts on possible cause. Not sure if it’s food or environmental.

Dr Jones, have you heard of histamine intolerance (or overload)? At one point, you were describing the symptoms of it in your video. I, myself, have it and have to be careful to monitor the amount of histamine in my food or else I’ll have onset of a barrage of allergy symptoms (sinus issues, headaches, itchy skin rash, anxiety, depression, joint pain, fatigue - just an overall feeling of being unwell, etc). My little dog has such terrible skin allergies. She’s been in apoquel for years, which helps some, but not enough (she still scratches and pulls hair out). The vet suspects she has a protein allergy (I tried my dog on a dehydrated beef and chicken diet with only pumpkin and vitamins/nutrients added by the manufacturer and she got worse). So, she’s now eating Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein kibble mixed with the wet version. Over the past month, I have noticed a reduction in skin redness, itching, and paw swelling. I’m hoping this works, cuz I’d love to wean her off of the Apoquel (it’s $70 for a month supply! Add the Royal Canin dog food, and I’m spending a fortune every month!). Anyway, I’m writing to ask if you have heard of histamine intolerance in dogs, cuz I’m wondering if my dog may have it, too. It’s not very well known, and I really couldn’t find much about it in regards to dogs via an internet search. Any thoughts?

Thank You Doctor for your amazing channel. I have a 2yo GSD. First year he was in dry food. Pooped 5 times a day, had constant ear infections. Then developed diarrhea with some blood. Done ultrasound, X-ray, blood work. Parasites.
    Salmon oil gives him diarrhea.
Basically I have been making ground beef and ground turkey with some broccoli.
Skin, coat and ears all cleared up. But he is skinny! So I started adding white rice.
His skin is still fine, but I noticed he started having eye discharge. Diarrhea came back and he had an episode of puking up white foam.
I don’t even know what to do.
What are your thoughts on dog allergy tests that are available on Amazon?

Hello, I'm not an expert but as for my experience in my small dogs. Not all hypoallergenic kibble or dog food will be effective, so aside from buying one. Try another hypoallergenic df since if you are in a trial stage wherein finding what's best for our dog will be in uproar since we don't usually find what's best right away.

Hi Doc. My pup is 3 months old. She has itching on her tummy, tail, elbows and legs. Including edge of ears. Ive put olive oil, vit. E but it did not help, the itch came back. I started with apple cider vinegar last night. So far, itching is less, she sleel more now and seems a little relaxed tham previous days. I also stopped lamb and rice flavored meals. Any other suggestions please? Its sad to see her scratch amd whine everytime she scratches.

I have a 1 year old (just turned 1) bull terrier pit mix, just started having some skin papules, little raised bumps on skin (no puss, no crusty head) all over, about 8 to 10 of them. Started right when weather warmed up and snow melting. Do you think it is a grass/environmental allergy? Timing seemed to be right as the ground was being exposed. What is best route to go for environmental allergies?

Hey great video Andrew! i've got a question though, i have a six month old english staffy and he has been having these pinkish rashes on the inside of his legs, his stomach and his throat where hes now got a bald patch. It seems to me like when hes been out on grass for a long time playing these itchy red areas get worse but i cant be sure if its bacteria infection or environmental/seasonal/food allergy. I have been to several vets and they seem to have different opinions. What is your take on this? There is occasional sneezing and scratching btw. Thank you so much in advance

My Maya is only six months old and I was wondering why she started to itch and bite her legs and bum so much. It did just start getting pretty warm here in the pnw so I’m thinking it’s either the season change, or all the antibiotics she’s already been on from Giardia and Coccydia treatments. We just bought her probiotics so I’m hoping that helps.

I recently started my one year old Jack as he was heading for the same dermatitis pulling his nails and chewing them and itching- funnily after only 3 days I noticed everything stop no itching. Hi i just had a question so my almost a year old Shar Pei puppy i had him on a puppy food wellness core grain free puppy he was constantly having ear infections i didn't know why then the breeders pointed out it was the chicken in the puppy food. I switched his food and cut him off his milk bones that were grain free Turkey and chicken. So i fully switched his food to Nutrience grain free ocean blend dog food beginning of December 2019 he seemed to be fine for most of the food trial i checked his ears every couple days and do a basic ear cleaner from the vet on the 15th of each month all looked good in his ears it wasn't until the last week of February i noticed he was doing head shaking again and scratching at his ear. If it was a food allergy would he have been heard shaking earlier then the last week of the food trial and shaking his head and scratching at his ears within the first month or two of the trial if it was a food allergy? Would he just need a ear cleaning a little more than once a month?
I changed the ear cleaner i uses on him to this stuff called Eco Ears i cleaned his ears with it twice one in morning and once at night on March 4th i did one cleaning today on the 5th to finish off what didn't come out on the first day i use the ear cleaner on a cotton pad and put it in his ear and squeeze his ears releasing the ear cleaner in the ears this last time i cleaned his ears the 5th of March i didn't get much black gunk on the cotton pads in his ear yesterday was way more. Hes not head shaking now so im not sure if it was just dirt build up or if its the tea tree oil it the new dog ear cleaner im using. What's your thoughts?

    • @VeterinarySecrets
      @VeterinarySecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Likely a combination of things- think of allergy like the threshold effect. Remove enough triggers and the scratching goes away. Stay on the new food. Additional EFA's.

Question, my dog is labrador x kelpie, past 2 years she has been having allergies, sometimes her tummy would be very red. I found out to that she is allergic to pollen at least to lillies, last flower I bought home. But then another issue is allergies around her eyes mouth pretty much on her face, sometimes symptoms same red itchy sore and skin flakey. And i noticed she sneezes and has puffy eyes i also came to conclusion its material that's made out of insulation. As she had a dog house made from it, soon as we noticed we got rid of it. she has been on medication for it to treat it. And we got rid of everything that can be a cause but i can't help the surrounding areas in neighbors yards. But also i have noticed when the weather is windy tends to make it worse.
Like i don't know wether to try antixistimates or something it's annoying i hate seeing her in any discomfort. But any tips or suggestions very helpful. I even consider doing allergy testing i really don't know.

The Benadryl part is confusing for me... I have a pit bull/boxer mix that is 60lbs... so would I give her 2 whole (25mg) Benadryl??

    • @Ann-xm4yq
      @Ann-xm4yq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

1mg per pound. So for a 60 pound dog, the dog would need 60mg of benadryl twice daily. There is no way to give 60 mg of benadryl since each tablet is 25 mg each. 2 tabs is 50mg or 2.5 tabs is 75mg.
1 benadryl tablet is 25mg. So a 60 pound dog will need 2 benadryl tablets twice per day.
2 tablets in the morning & another 2 tablets in the evening.

Hi Dr. Jones, great video. My 14 year old basenji-chi mix has been licking his tail/anal region intermittently for about a year or so. Other than some tearing of his eyes, that is his only main symptom - no hair loss and no full anal glands. Neither symptom disappears with seasons so the vet thinks it's probably a food allergy.
For years he's been on chicken based food (Northwest Naturals Raw Chicken Nuggets and Wellness Adult Deboned Chicken/Oatmeal).
She suggested a food trial using hydrolyzed food for 8-12 weeks to clear him out of all that food. If symptoms resolve, he's likely allergic to chicken, oatmeal or maybe both.
My question is what do you think about using a prepared hydrolyzed diet? Are they safe to use? My dog doesn't seem to be very "happy" right now. His mealtimes were so exciting for him, now he looks at me like I'm nuts for feeding him this stuff. The ingredients seem disgusting to me. Thanks in advance for your time. I look forward to your answer.

My 1 year old standard poodle Kody has a vet appointment in 2 days. He has what I believe bad blepharitis in 1 eye. I am doing the warm compresses and camomile tea compress too. He was neutered 1 months ago. 2 weeks after he went crazy scratching under his belly. Licking and scratching.. 😩 he had little skin sores everywhere. I cleaned all these sores and put his cone back on and used benadryl. Now for the last week his eye. Losing fur around his eye. It looks awful. I don't have much money for tests and things as we just had him fixed and in July 2021 he broke his front leg..3000.00 for that😢 please pray for my dog Kody.

He is now 9 months old and has not had a month of relief from itching, red eyes, loss of appetite (only eats when really really hungry), bum licking, diarrhea, and recurring anal gland filling. We have been to many different vets and clinics, have changed food from beef to chicken, to grain free, now he is on salmon with no animal fats, but he still continues with same symptoms. He is mainly inside, so we are frustrated and hope you have some help or advice to give us... Love your videos, appreciate any and all help you can send our way!

Hi Jacob. This could be a food allergy, but most likely based on the severity atopy. Have them treat with revolution to R/O mange. 2 doses 2 weeks apart. Then meds to treat the yeast- even the ACV stinky dog shampoo recipe I have on another video. High doses of fish oil- 1000mg/10lbs twice daily. Add in nettle tea as an antihistamine. Then a very strict proper food trial. You make the food. Say turkey/veggies/sweet potato. Plus a calcium supplement. Must be given for 6 weeks.

You should try a bath with tumeric, oatmeal blended in a blender so its fine, green tea and black tea,Epsom salt some apple cider vinegar. I put thos in a bath for my dog and soap him and pour over with a cup over and over for 20 minutes or more then wash him like regular that stuff soothes the yeast and bacteria in paws creases and folds. Then apply coconut oil all over them cause it cures yeast and bacteria and if they lick it its healthy. For ear smell I reccomend zymox ear hydrocortisone treatment its 21$ from amazon or chewy very cheap and any hydrocortisone /antiseptic spray for hot spots from amazon or chewy look at reviews! Hope this helps this is what works for me

Both my small breed dogs have allergies to chicken and corn. My toy poodle has many of the classic symptoms like excessive paw licking, frequent scratching and her skin which is normally pink will turn hot and red and her eyes get red too. Fleas made the skin inflammation worse. My other dog is a Chiweenie and she would vomit after eating "regular" dog food or quietly whimper while at rest and I could hear her stomach churning. Since earlier this year they are eating Taste of the Wild Lamb and Rice dry food and Nutro Lamb and Rice formula wet food. I do not give them eggs or milk products either. Occasionally I give them a taste of organic butter. I will also give them baked salmon with olive oil with sea salt and mild spices if I am eating that and occasionally raw beef or beef liver cooked especially for them as I rarely if ever eat red meat myself. Changing their diet and coconut oil applied for fleas on my poodle has reduced or eliminated their allergy symptoms. Now they are feeling much better and have more energy. Thanks for this video, it is very helpful!
