    34 years diabetic and so damn sick of it. Every country needs this and We need this in Canada. Health Canada (US FDA equivalent) moves at such a snail's pace it's disgusting.

    Hey Justin you are killing it, I hope the vendor is reading these comments as well, but limiting bolus input to the pod is a complete non-starter to most people. I rotate six sites, all on the back of my body (arms, waist, glute) and wouldn’t be able to bolus on my own. They really need to rethink the controller aspect, seems like they designed this without any Type I input

      You are absolutely correct. I rotate among 2 but I don’t like this concept. I’m getting the MOBI this year.

      This isn't Niia's only pump, but their most basic one in a system of 3 that was submitted for FDA approval in Dec 2023.
      This is a very basic low cost pump for able bodied people, hence the name "Essential". It's effectively a wearable insulin pen, that has the same physical handling properties as the models with more features. It's being used to show that the system can be safely loaded and applied by a normal user and what the features common to all pumps of the system are.
      But let me ask you this. Could you install and remove a pod on your arms waist or butt, but be unable to feel and push large buttons on its top or side? Why? Do you have advanced arthritis or lack proprioception or sense of touch? If so, the "Advanced" model has smartphone control.
      As an experienced pump user, I'd never use any pump that DIDN'T have the ability to bolus without a phone - or one that wasn't part of a loop system.
      Frankly, I think all the pump and CGM maker's phone apps are awful. Xdrip+ is better. The hardware makers apps, because of a combination of the FDA, liability insurance requirements, and software developers who don't know how to use standard programming interfaces to establish a secure connection CHEAPLY, only a very few, relatuively expensive phone models are able to remotely bolus. Ironically, those are the ones that have the most proprietary modifications of their OSs and break standards most frequently.

    If this was compared to the good old insulin pen, the pen would win every time.

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on what you are comparing. Disposable syringes beat pens in cost. The Niia Essential, like all pumps, beats pens in 24x7 availability and less frequent skin prep and needle changes, but loses in cost. Pens aren't part of a system with one form factor that includes automation for those who need and can afford those. If used by people with equal levels of knowledge in insulin therapy, the increased costs of pumps and automation can be justified ONLY if the result is near-normal glucose levels. I know what it takes to achieve that. I also know that the improvement in results for "imporved" and "advanced" BG regulation therapies since 1980 do NOT justify the increases in cost. The only one that has the potential of doing so -eventually- is CGMs.

    Impressive as it is, you should check out the Medtrum nano 300... Also 3ml, also has reusable parts (the control unit)... but significantly smaller in all dimensions than Omnipod... This pump looks massive compared to the Medtrum.

    Maybe one day tandem could integrate a CGM into their insulin pump. A pump that has a CGM built into the device and you never have to worry about inserting a senor every 10 days. You never have to worry about worrying about ordering sensors ever again. THAT WOULD BE A GAME CHANGER FOR TYPE 1 DIABETICS.

    • @zanycatswelove
      @zanycatswelove 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! Short of a cure, transplant or artificial pancreas this is the next best thing. Let’s hope it comes about.

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd rather that Tandem stick to building pumps and use a noninvasive CGMs when they become available. I'm tired of proprietary CGM reporting and input protocols and think it's about time for SECURE CGM STANDARDS so pumps don't require new software for every model and maker.

  • @poodlebone

    The fact that the controls are on the pump itself is a big turnoff. It will limit where it can be placed. You don't want to have to get undressed in a restaurant to bolus! Going to the restroom to do it is a big step backwards.

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It may limit how you dress. If you can feel the pod through a shirt or blouse, you can bolus.

      I think it would be nicer if the folks who make the hardware would support it better and train EVERY user once per decade how to use their hardware to achieve the professional society targets. I like other people, but that user have to support each other free, while companies are profiting from each of our chronic illnesses for many decades is detestable.

    As someone new to researching pumps I’d say any new pumps into the market has to be as good or better than Omni pod. The one displayed here looks like a waste of time.

    They are making pumps to be left in for longer it seems but here is the problem. Currently I change my cannula every 3 days. I asked if I could change to the 7 day one & my pump team said no because they think you will get Lipohypertrophy. If these pumps are designed to stay in the same place for more than 7 days I can see a real problem with that happening.

    • @dwightl5863
      @dwightl5863 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see that also with the extended wear time of the tubeless pumps. I perhaps could understand the makeup of the cannula being viable for an extended period but the lipohypertrophy caused by the insulin being injected in a single location. I would be interesting to see how that can be accomplished.

    I'm an omnipod user. I would NOT wear this new pump. First the controls are on the pump. Big NO. Second, it's ugly and it is actually more noticeable. It's got flashing lights on it for god's sake. How is anyone going to wear that on an arm and it not be noticeable. How are they going to operate it on an arm, etc if they can't actually see the controls. Plus of course, with the Omnipod we can dispense insulin in tenths of a unit, how is this one going to do that if it's a button push with preset amounts? Second what irks me is they are going to introduce several different versions. So that means, the more you can afford to pay, the better the version. At least with Omnipod, one size fits all and there's no choice of "oh if you pay more, then you get all these advanced features". It's like choosing a phone. Another NO. Thirdly, how the hell are they going to combine a CGM in the pump when we are told that we should wear our CGMs at least 3 inches from our pump to avoid issues with readings due to it being in close proximity to where the insulin discharges into our body? How the hell are they going to get around that? Do tell.

    Justin sir,
    My 10 year old daughter is diagnosed type 1 diabetes before 20 days,I want this pump for my little girl,but we are economically not so strong or able to buy this,is there any program or help will get us.

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This pump is not yet FDA approved for sale. It depends what country you're in, what forms of financial assistance are available. Type 1 diabetes may qualify as a medical disability that is covered by public health insurance. You need to talk to a diabetes professional, not look for answers on TH-cam.
      As a person with typoe 1 who used mutiple daily injections for many years since the 1970s and and a current pump user I can tell you that pumps are not a solution that is risk free. The insulins they use are rapid acting, and without careful glucose monitoring hypoglycemia is likely and dangerous.
      All but the most expensive "loop" pumps have very limited benefit for those who are unable to understand how to use them. A CGM would be far more helpful. Once she gets past needle shyness, if cost is any consideration, until your daughter is through adolescence, very long duration basal insulin combined with MANY test strips or CGM monitoring to calculate boluses are best until pumps and software get MUCH better than they are now. (Smart pens are much less expensive than pumps.)

    Cool tech, but will it keep BG in healthy range? We havent seen a device do it yet

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No hardware can. It takes someone willing to program and use their brain with test strips and/or a CGM to make a series of rational, continuous lifestyle improvements using insulin. The user needs to "Think Like a Pancreas" until we have software that can do it better than we can. If we had it, a CGM, a camera and an app could tell us when to do what to do.

    Compared to a tubed pump with a straight steel cannula, this system has a huge increase in plastic waste.
