Thanks for the awesome review, I'm thinking of getting one of these instead of my medtronic. You answered every possible thing, love your style! I'm Steve from Minnesota and I was diagnosed at 5 years old in 1970 as type 1. God has really helped me a lot and I'm grateful to be doing well in good shape so far. Sorry to babble, thanks again!
I have been a T1D for over 46 years and have been pumping for 37 years and recently upgraded my pump to the Medtronic 770G and first my pump with CGM. So far my BG's have been in TIR (Time in Range) over 80% of the time. I decided on the 770G for the following reasons: 1. rugged design (730G survived bouncing on the dance floor during dance competitions), 2. model upgrades over the internet (780G submitted to FDA for approval) and 3. current BG w/graphics and pump status on my smartphone. Love your channel and thanks for all your inspiring video updates.
Oh my goodness I'm so excited for you!!!! And I'm so glad to hear this! I also wish there was a tubeless option so so so much so I'm right there with you on that one but still I'm so glad to hear your control is so much better that's wonderful!
Very informative, I’m also going to use this opportunity to recommend Dr IGUDIA on TH-cam who cured my type 2 Diabetes with his natural herbs medication
I'm scared to move back to tube. I'm on Omnipod and I love it but really want the close loop that Omnipod has promised and yet deliver. I have been approved for Tandem - do in the next few weeks I'll likely be on tube again
Tomorrow I have an appointment with a nurse to discuss possible pumps for me. I’m leaning towards this model. Thank you for creating informative videos.
I been on the Tandem Tslim x2 now for 4 years and my warranty was up and today i received my second tslim x2 pump today by UPS. I am so in love with the tandem pump. This pump is the best one i ever owned. I have a endo appointment next week for the pump specialist to set up my new pump. If a person is on the fence about what pump to choose I say hands down this is the one to go with. It is so easy with the touch screen to navigate through the pump. Thanks tandem for such a great device.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us all here Brian!! Your second Tandem is a huge step and vote of confidence for the system - and I completely agree!! Good luck getting your new pump set up!! 💙🙏🏻
My littlest was dx 7 months ago, he's 3 now and I'm on my second pump class. It's so overwhelming and I've cried so much trying to learn everything over zoom. Please make more videos!! These are so helpful 💕
I recently began using the Tslim X2 with Control IQ. It completely changed my T1D. It is the single most impactful user experience I’ve had in the last 20 years. For anyone considering this option, I cannot recommend it enough!
My husband keeps laughing at me binge watching your videos. I’m learning so much Andrea. I’m having my pancreas out and your my brilliant teacher 👩🏫 Thanks again ! Xx
Hi Teresa. It’s probably too late to be of any help to you as it’s 6 months since your post. Firstly, I hope you are keeping well. Must be very challenging having your pancreas removed! I have had diabetes for 58 years and am a retired diabetes educator. If you haven’t already please see an educator or endo. to discuss hypo’s. You will need to be especially careful to avoid night-time hypo’s, as you won’t have the safety-net of glucagon response that a “normal” T1 has, which, though may be slower than in non- diabetics, will usually eventually bring you out of unconsciousness (unless of course you asphyxiate or have been drinking alcohol). All the very best to you.
@@Nobodyknowsreally oh thank you so much for your advice. Brilliant, thank you. Fortunately I’ve only had two hypo’s and I was luckily in hospital both times. Again thank you for your help. Xxxx ❤️
Hey Bryce here. I was diagnosed at age 9 with Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. I am now 26 almost 27 and am upgrading from this Medtronic 630G to this pump. Thanks for the review and you have a new subscriber!
Been on Tslim X2 for a month now. I agree with you on the button to "wake up" the pump. I've just learned to use both hands (a finger on each side of the button) and it wakes up every time. I do believe it is a safety measure. Yes, it does use a lot of insulin to fill the tubing and the cannula (I estimate about 15 units). I had to add that amount to what I now fill the cartridge with. The Medtronic I was on was less. I would like to see what's actually left in the cartridge when it calls to refill. Since it is not clear, you can't see it. All in all, I agree that the pros outweigh the cons. Good control over all for me. Thanks for a great video.
Totally agree with you on all the fronts, and very interesting to hear you've had the same experience with the top button. Some people have said they don't have an issue and that surprises me! I guess we're all a little different, maybe it's a pressure thing! I'm glad you like it though - and totally agree with you! The pros absolutely outweigh the cons! Thank you for watching!!
The bladder system to infusion set connector is a medical standard connector called "luer-lock". The bladder system for example have the exact same connector between the need and syringe you use to fill the bladder. I know it is bulky but the good thing is that you can use any 3rd party infusion set with the standardised luer-lock system which there is a ton if one of the Rubin Medical ones are not the right ones for you. As a medical professional I really appreciate them going with a standardised connector design.
I’ve been a T1D for over 40 years and have been pumping for over 20 years now! Couldn’t imagine going back to MDI. I have had the Tandem t:slim x2 pump for the past year. We have Basal IQ here in Australia and hopefully Control IQ is not far away now. Love your vlogs Andrea ❤️
I just started on this pump and I love it. One con I would add is if you're visually impaired or just have trouble with small print, you might have trouble working on the small screen (you can't change the fonts to make text bigger). That being said you can monitor blood sugars and other details on your smart phone so it is not a deal breaker. I also cant bolus from my phone but you can on more recent smart phones. Thanks for the video.
That's such a good point re the small print - I wouldn't have thought of that - but indeed that is very very very important! But like you said - if you've got the phone connection that helps. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience - if I ever speak to Tandem directly I will pass along your comments about the text size because I think that's incredibly important to note!
I currently have a pump peel on my TSlimX2 based on one of my paintings. I plan on doing a video on my latest infusion set issues soon. (Have been taking a break from filming, because life.)
Oh my gosh I love that you have a peel based on your paintings! That's SO cool! I look forward to seeing your video soon and TOTALLY understand about life getting in the way of filming don't worry - do it when you're ready!!!!
Thank you so much for your perfectly explained review. It helped us make the decision to go for the tslim (from Medtronic like you) and my 12 year old has just watched your reviews after we moved to tslim yesterday with a Dexcom. It’s great that you’ve taken the time to share how you find living with this pump and the positive experience it’s been. It’s such a relief and improvement for us from having spikey levels to being much flatter under control iQ. It’s cleary great tech and we’re much more hopeful now his time in range will be better.
For me the big negative has been the "AutoSoft XC" infusion sets. I get normal insulin sensitivity for about the first 12 hours (consistent with the settings from my previous pump), then I see an upward trend and have to max out my basal for the remaining two days. Right now, even that's not working, on a completely pristine love-handle site! Reading online, this seems to be caused by leaks or tunneling with the plastic sets. I'm planning to switch to the TruSteel sets, but the customer support line said I have to wait till business hours to do that. And yes, there's a lot of wastage unless you use the loading syringe to draw the insulin out of spent cartridges and tubing; not an easy process but it does work if you're patient and careful.
I’ve had my pump for almost two years. I’ve never gotten an occlusion alarm. I wonder if some of these cons are unique to different generations of pumps? On my pump the button to turn on the screen is easy to press. Mine came with a clip, it isn’t very comfortable as it bends back out into your body so I tend to wear a shirt tucked in there to prevent pain. I may look into your clip instead. On the topic of the tube join, I agree it would be nice if it were one piece, but then if it were and you had a true occlusion you’d have to waste the entire bladder of insulin instead of just repriming a new infusion set. Always pros and cons. I agree, this combo of Dexcom G6 and Tandem T:slim is amazing! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
I completely agree with your above points and am SO glad you don't experience issues with the occlusion alarms! It must be to do with different pumps because some have said they experience it frequently like me and others say it isn't an issue - I'm certainly so pleased for those that say it's not a problem!! Ultimately the Control iQ in combination with the Dexcom and Tslim combo is just a winner winner to me no matter what, and I'm glad you're having the same excellent feelings!!!! Thank you for watching my friend!!!
Thank you so much Mariana! I would love it if I were this organized, because this would be fantastic!!! Unfortunately my job commitments have stalled content for this week but I hope to have a new video up this Sunday! And a diagnosis story time up soon as well!
I have the same pump and I completely agree with everything you just said. Tandem definitely has room for improvement but overall, I love this pump and I have no idea what I would do without it!
Hi Andrea, I love your videos. My pump warranty just ended a few days ago, so you uploaded at the perfect time. I'm hoping to get the tandem. I hated the medtronic 670g system, and I'm currently loving my dexcom so T slim seems like the right choice for me 😊 I'm looking forward to your videos on control iq/basal iq
Oh great timing indeed!! I really think it's the best out there at the moment, but that's totally just me - we're all unique and have our own needs and wants. No matter what you choose I hope you feel happy with your decision and love love love it!!!!!!!! Good luck my friend!!! 💙💙💙
I'm so so so very sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis - you much be going through a LOT right now. Please know you are not alone and we as a community support you! I always say- being diagnosed as t1d has been so hard for me, but it's also probably been one of the best gifts I've ever been given in my life and made me who I am - for the better! And for that I am uniquely grateful. Please hang in there and have hope - you will get through this and technology is so so fast evolving - so there's a TON of hope out there for you!!! Thank you so much for subscribing and I'm wishing you and your wonderful son all my very best! You've got this!! 💙💙💙
@@ShesDiabetic Thank you so much! I’ve been told that he will hopefully use his diagnosis as a way to fight for everything he wants in life and I truly believe he will do just that 💪🏻 He’s honestly been amazing and I’m already inspired by his bravery! I agree about the technology, he’s got the libre 2 already and I’m amazed by it! I cannot imagine how difficult and debilitating life would be having to finger prick god knows how many times a day! It’s been an absolute god send for us. He’s still honeymooning and as had lots of hypos, but he’s started to now recognise how he feels and manages to act quickly even before the scanner alerts us. You guys are amazing and thank you for sharing your story, it’s helped me process everything so much better! X 💖💖💖
My $1 con is also the waste of insulin. I upgraded to the Tandem x2 because it works with Dexcom. I don't get occlusion alarms probably bc I'm using the straight needle and not a soft catheter that can bend. Overall I prefer this pump to Medtronic bc it pairs with Dexcom. All the best everyone.
So grateful I came across your channel the other day!! I am making the switch from MDI to a pump (this one in particular!) and I’m soooo nervous about it!
Thank you for this video! I’ve been considering switching from the Medtronic 670g to the Tandem T-Slim X2, but it’s hard to trust the reviews sometimes
I’m switching from Omnipod to the 770g, haven’t had the training yet and feel overwhelmed right now. My insurance wouldn’t cover the T-Slim nor the Omnipod Dash. I’m ready to get started and hoping I don’t mess anything up.
I'm getting my t:slim and dexcom g6 next week. I love your videos and would love for you to keep sharing your pump dexcom g6 experience. I am very excited 😁 to start this experience. Thank you for vlogging your diabetes experiences with the world.
I’m in the process of switching from MDI to the pump and you just reinforced the high hopes I have for Tandem. Can’t wait to see your control and basal IQ review! As an aside, and I’m not recommending anybody do this, but I have seen some people actually extract the remaining insulin from the spent cartridge back into the syringe to use in the new cartridge. There is even a technique for getting it out of the tubing to keep wastage to a minimum.
Oh I'm excited for you to make the switch Robert!! I really think you're going to love it so so much! And I know what you mean about the insulin extraction - I've heard of people doing this too! I've never tried it, but I'm all about not wasting insulin - it's just criminal this is happening when insulin is so expensive and isn't even available to some!
I've been on the t:slim for 3 months (recently diagnosed T1). I average about 12 units of insulin/day. I was told by tandem that a new cartridge requires a MINIMUM of 100-120 units for the pump to recognize a "properly" filled cartridge. In any event, I have withdrawn insulin from the old cartridge, to infuse into the new one (site changes is every 3 days). I discussed this with my diabetic trainer. She didn't say not to do this, but said she'd "heard" that the insulin degrades, and I may not be getting the full effects of the "old" insulin. In the end, she said it was up to me- I'm NOT suggesting anyone do this, either. My thoughts are this: once I take a new vial from the fridge, the insulin is good for 28 days. I'm just transporting the insulin from the vial, to the cartridge bladder, then from the old bladder, to a new one. I don't do this for every exchange; maybe every third time. The last time I did this, I extracted 60 units of insulin. Until I see some science behind this "degradation" I'll likely continue to do this. Tandem should make cartridges with smaller bladders. I'd imagine a software upgrade would be required for the pump to recognize a smaller amount. I'm fortunate in that I have excellent insurance, and my only out of pocket expense, is for the insulin ($60 US for 5 vials). My pump and Dexcom supplies are all paid by my insurance. I think it's a crime that so much insulin is literally being thrown in the trash, especially when so many people are rationing insulin due to cost. I'm doing this partially out of principle. I've read it costs less than $6 to produce a vial of insulin, but sold for hundreds, without insurance subsidizing the cost. If I could safely, and legally, donate my insulin to someone uninsured, I'd be happy to. No one should die from lack of insulin.
@@ShesDiabetic May I ask how many units you average per day? My needs are about 12u/day. I waste upwards of 50-60+ units per exchange! And thank you for your videos. You're an inspiration to newbies, like me! ❤️
@@guitarforudude good to know! I just started my T-slim and this will be my first site change. When I used pens there was always at least 10 units left when technically empty. I always sucked up every drop with a syringe!
Great video thanks for sharing. I have looked into switching to Tslim in the past, I've used Medtronic pumps for years the new 780G with G4 sensor is a full loop system that makes basal and bolus adjust like this Tslim and is in color as well. Changing insulin Reservoirs and insertions sets with this t slim seem far more complicated. Also the new medtronic insert sets and CGM last 7 days all you have to do is refill the insulin Reservoir. Changing once per week vs every 3 days is a hugh plus. I do love the style and size of the Tslim. 🤷♂️ I will continue my research
My daughter and I have been using this pump for little over a year and we both love it. The inclusions you talked about, my daughter used to get them all the time. She was using the 42" tubing canula's. What we found was the tubing would get bunched up or pinched off especially at night when she is trying to sleep, thus the alarm. I have experience it once but I wear my pump on an armband all the time. She like the longer tubing because it is easer to conceal the pump basically anywhere she wants. Our solution was that she would continue getting the 42" and I get the 32". So we have options. If you are getting the inclusion alerts often, consider the tubing length you are using and when the alarm occurs, what were you doing.
So interesting about the varied tubing lengths and your experience with the alarms!! Thank you for sharing that with me! I, exactly like you guys, always order 2 tubing lengths - exactly the same as you - and vary between. I've never thought about it - but maybe the tubing lengths and frequency of occlusion alarms coincide! I will have to keep a closer watching on this. Thank you so so much for sharing this with me - genuinely!!!
Thanks for the review. I'm so glad you added chapters so I could skip around. I'm on the spectrum and just want the info...the wordiness and long introduction don't work for me. But I know I'm the oddball :^)
You are SO welcome - and I completely understand!! I know it's a difficult balance - and so I feel like the chapters help expedite things for those that need the quick hits and others can watch all the way though - thank you for saying this and you are in no way an oddball!! Thank you for watching!!! :)
After over 4 1/2 years of using this, I agree with the pros. Add that the charging port is micro usb instead of usb-C, because I'd like it the same as my phone. You didn't mention t:Connect. Use and love that, which should work with all versions of the X2. Wish the pump's time of day was kept in sync with my phone via t:Connect. Haven't had issues with the top button, and my occlusions are very rare, and usually caused by me pinching my tubing in my pants. Looking forward to you Basal-IQ and Control-IQ reviews, as I use (and love) Control-IQ.
I agree - the time of day sync would be amazing! Thank you for your kind words and added thoughts here - very helpful indeed! And I'm with you! LOVE CONTROL-IQ!!! That review will be coming soon!!
Brilliant, I have had Accu Chek & (currently) Medtronic Pumps for about 12 years in all. I'm due to change to the Tandem in a year, I have been using the Dexcom G6 - what a game changer!! (Hb1Ac dropped to 41 ). I was concerned about the insulin refill as it looked way more finnicky than I have ever experienced. I am looking forward to the direct CGM communication this provides though. I was glad of your warning about the lack of clipage too - thanks for the heads up 🙂, that's a big oversite on their part. Thank you.
I'm excited for you to get on the Tandem - especially with the G6 it's just an out and out game changer in my eyes!! I'm so happy to hear the Dexcom works so well for you too - this is just awesome, awesome, awesome!!! The cartridge filling process is definitely more finnicky than the others, but over time you get used to it and it becomes very straightforward. Let me know how your switch goes, and best of luck to you!!! 😍
Thank you. This video is amazing. Last night I have seen my first video of you. And I actually asked for advice. This video helps starting my learning journey. So I can support my son. 🙏 All the best 💐
You are a marvelous partner (if I may!) to have on this journey. Thank you for a well thought-out and thorough presentation of the Tandem t.slim x2 pump. The Medtronic pump I use seems to work well, but the sleekness of the Tandem pump and its upgrade capability has piqued my interest. Looking to hear how the Basal IQ and Control IQ features work for you. Again, thanks! :}
Thanks for the great review. I've now been offered an insulin pump on NHS and this is one of the options. So it was really good to have a thorough review which didn't seem bias in any way and actually pointed out the downsides in a reasonable way. I wonder if some of those concerns like the belt clip will be made in a newer version. Or if they would just leave 3rd party companies sort it with add ons.
I’ve had the pump for two weeks now and I’ve loved it but I’m on board with you about the insulin waste. The amount of insulin I’m putting in the syringe and the amount that I end up throwing out because of air bubbles and inevitably in the cartridge is more than I’d like to (to put it nicely).
When you take the syringe out of the bladder after removing the air just pull a little bit of normal air in so you empty the needle from insulin. Then there should be no wastage when you empty the air from the syringe. And if there is more insulin in the syringe that fits in the bladder you can just put it back into the cannula. I know this is a damn struggle in the US.
It's so interesting a lot of people have been saying that they don't experience the sticky top button, but clearly you do as well as I! I really hope it's not too bothersome and that you like love your new pump regardless but I totally understand the frustration!!
I'm just now starting on the pump. This is the one I am getting should be here in 2 weeks. Seems like I have a lot to learn. Not just about changing and filling, but also the pump itself. I'm a little nervous wondering if I can get all this, and get use to living with it. Thanks for the vids. They really help.
Oh I'm so excited for you to get this pump! There is a lot to learn, but it's totally totally doable! You'll be A-OK! I promise! I was very nervous and intimidated when I first started insulin pump therapy, but now I don't know what I'd do without it! I'm thinking about you as you start this new aspect of treatment and I'm excited for the freedom I think it will give you! Sending you all the very best!
Thanks so much for this video to be today’s video. I had zero sleep whatsoever last night and just now had some restorative sleep this morning 8/7c-10/9c and woke up when video was uploaded 😁 What we are all still wanting to know is how you switched
Many thanks for this. I'm looking to change pumps from Med 630G to tslim in a few months. Medicare prevented me from getting the 670G on the last swap so, I'm keenly interested in the auto basal adjustment being offered. I had already swapped to Dexcom G6 CGM which has been far more accurate, reliable, and avoids continual nuisance alarms for calibrations. It'll be nice to get back to the pump - CGM interface if I go this route. One big pro for me with Medtronics is the pump being waterproof vs resistant. Spending a lot of time on the water results in me sometimes spending time in the water which can be a bad thing with a water-resistant pump. I share the concern about tslim insulin waste. The Medtronics reservoir/infusion set has been quite efficient. I typically fill 250 units lasting 5 days losing only 10 - 15 units leftover in the tubing and reservoir. It seems (from others) tslim loses 50 units in the bladder plus whatever the tubing holds. Does this sound about right for losses you've experienced? There are always pro/cons but, so far, I'm leaning towards tslim. Your help is appreciated.
My pump doesn't bring any occlusion alarm at all. I have it for one year. Maybe substituting yours under warranty would solve this problem?! I agree with everything you say. I used to have a medtronic that gave me lots of problems. This is an awesome pump in my experience too! Great review!
I'm definitely going to contact Tandem after hearing this in several comments. I say Diabetic Danica say this was an issue for her too, so I just kind of figured everyone was experiencing this - I'm actually so glad they are not! Thank you for your kind words my friend!!
Thanks Andrea for another informative video! Currently I'm only into my second week with my new t-slim ( Honeymoon phase) and love it to pieces. I did have to purchase a clip from Amazon. It's a swivel clip and helps keep the top of the infusion line that exits the cartridge from digging into my skin. Looking forward to your Basel/IQ control video. Best wishes. Go Blue!!
Oh Rex!! I'm delighted you're loving it as much as I do it sounds like! I do this it's just quite simply STUPENDOUS! Nice to hear you got a clip that works for you - that's fantastic!! Hope to have the video on Basal iQ out soon!! Wishing you all the very very best and hope you had a wonderful Easter!!! 🐣
Oh I'm excited for you Josh!! The pump does come with a sort of belt clip thing (that I totally spaced on mentioning here) but it does add bulk to the pump, so I've never wanted to use it so as to keep it as small as possible. You'll find what works best for you I'm sure! I love the little stick on clip as it really keeps it in the smaller profile range! Good luck my friend!!
@@ShesDiabetic yes i know about the clip that comes with it, but like you said it defeats the small form factor a bit, so the one you suggested will be way better for me i think.
I've been using a Medtronic pump for past 20+ years. I currently have the 670 and have my share of issues. But now my warranty is up and I'm qualified to get a new pump. My Endo highly recommends the Tandum but I've read and watched a lot of great reviews for the Medtronic 770g and for the 780g which should be FDA approved for the US later this month. I am really torn as to which one to go with.
It's such a personal decision - I totally get that it's overwhelming! The only thing I would encourage you to think about is if you want to use a Dexcom or Medtronic CGM. I think this can be a huge deciding factor in terms of which pump you choose. That was at least the major deciding factor for me. Other than that all I can say is I wish you all the very very best and hope you're able to make teh right decision for you! That's the most important thing!! 💙💙💙
Hi guys. Ok, here’s my take on Medtronic 770g vs. T-slim. I’ve never used the t-slim bc i hear that the cartridge is troublesome. But here’s my big gripe on the 770g. It’s so big, I’m constantly jabbing myself in the stomach bc of the insulin cylinder being so high on the pump. The 770 is so much bigger than the 530 used to be. Maybe it’s different for a male, but this new Medtronic is so ridiculously bulky and heavy. Even when you clip it on your pants, the hem folds down. The engineering is esthetically awful. I’ve been wearing a pump since 2000, and I would have thought that Medtronic would have made the pump smaller instead of bigger. it really is a pain and I regret getting it last year. The only thing that I like about Medtronic is their customer service. They’ve always been great Changing the reservoir on the T-slim seems to have more steps than with Medtronic. You have to have a regular syringe to pull the insulin out of the bottle and into the reservoir. Plus there are a lot of other steps, I’ve noted. Also, it depends on which insurance you have.. So that’s my take on these pumps. Anyway, good luck!
@@seanc4159 I love it! if you have the dexcom g6 it connects and is so much better. The main thing i like abt it is control IQ, i am normaly scared of going low and passing out in the midle of the night, but if i am going to low it stops all insulin, it is amazing. No more fear for me x
I've been a T1D for 30 years and have only used the Animas 2020, that broke 10 years ago. I'll be calling Tandem tomorrow to see how I can get the t:slim X2 in Portugal. But I have a feeling I'll need to go back to Kentucky to get it. BTW I LOVE the skin you used on your pump.
I just called Tandem and got the process going for a control IQ. I've never been on a pump before and have been on MDI for about 4 yrs (was diagnosed in late 80s/early 90s and was just on pills prior). I've watched tons of videos so far - some people hated the pump and some loved it - since I'd found out it was covered by Medicaid I thought I'd give it a try. I was actually notified, maybe, late last year, but being such a big change in management I was a bit apprehensive. Wish me luck. My paperwork should be done in a few weeks and then I can start training.
Mixed review for me. The pump does help with managing highs and lows. But the multiple useless alarms that you can’t really control makes this pump a bad choice. I can’t wait to try something different
I just got the Tslim and was surprised to receive a case with a belt clip that seems to be pretty nice. Maybe that has to do with me being in the US, though. Thank you for this comprehensive review! Very helpful with getting started on this pump.
Oh! It seems you couldn't find the pump case that comes with a clip. It's not the best clip you can find, but it's way better than the one you bought! Also my top button works fine (always through the pump case, so it's funny you mention this! lol). I totally agree with you about the confirmation steps...too many! Also agree with the insulin wastage, ridiculous... And about the occlusion alarms, I only got it once! So I don't know... it depens on the person. I clean the pump with alcohol everytime I change the site (every 3 days). I like it clean and disinfected. The pump case protects the pump properly, so there's not much dust or anything to clean. I'm sure you forgot to mention about the packaging wastage... too much plastic and sharp materials to recycle/throw away. In conclusion, I also LOVE this pump. One of the best decisions I took in my whole life :)
I'm with you - I clean mine just like that too! I'm so glad you like the pump too - I'm learning every users experience is a little different, and you're right about the pump - but I did not want anything to add to the bulk of the pump so I totally forgot about the case, but still don't care for it anyway, as it makes the pump much bulkier, just to achieve actually having a clip, that's an issue in my opinion - but totally my overlooking!!! And great point about the wastage of actual packaging. Sadly, I think at this moment that just comes with the territory of pump life - I hope it changes in the future though!!!
Oh gosh - yes this is an annoyance, eh! It's so frustrating when there's a minima because you're then forced into wasting insulin - this is madness!!! 😣
Thinking of switching from Medtronic 770 to this. The top button annoyance I would not like nor the charge time which I did not consider. Seems it needs a removal battery with a 2nd pack like any cordless tool. Occlusion alarms, yikes!! I use Fiasp insulin so it will probably throw a ton of them. Thank you.
Great points and completely valid concerns Kevin! As for the top button, I think mine is particularly sticky and I’ve had many people comment that this hasn’t been an issue for them, and the same goes for the occlusion alarms. With regards to the battery it is certainly a consideration; and I love your idea about a swap out (tslim please make this!!) but with an external charger it’s truly easy peasy and not something that holds me back. Just my personal feelings towards your concerns- but we’re all different so I completely understand your hesitancy! Good luck in your search and do let me know what you decide to go with! I hope you find a pump that is exactly to your liking and best for you!! ☺️
My doctor is trying to get me to switch from medtronic to tandem. I've been surfing videos to get some insight. I'm going on 33 years as a T1D and I don't know how any of us would do it without an insulin pump, I really don't. Now having said that and in an attempt to not sound too _creepy_ _stalker-ish_ I gotta say my God your pretty!
I made the switch from Medtronic to Tandem and have never looked back! I LOVE my Tandem TSlim + Dexcom G6 combo, and continue to do so! BUt we’re all individual - so I wish you very good luck in your search for the right system for you! This is the most important thing! 😊
Thank you for the informative video! Just went through a local pump workshop today and I am thinking to change my old Medtronics 640G to T-sim. I think there is no perfect pump but agree with you that this is a very personal decision of which pump suits best. Take care.
Very very helpful! I am going to get my first insulin pump very soon so I'm doing my research. Initially, I wanted to get a tubeless pump, but I honestly hate the thought of producing soooo much tech trash with the omnipod. Like, you literally throw a whole insulin pump in the trash every three days. I love our planet too much to do that :/
I’ve just began the insulin part of diabetes journey. I’d love to have one of these at some point. Right now I’m dialing those insulin pens for every meal.
Thank you for your good video and your honest opinion about the Tandem t:slim x2 pump. I am from Germany and I have been a diabetic typ 1 for over 23 years. Currently, I am using the MiniMed 640G pump and freestyle libre 2. My Insulin, which I use with my pump is Lyumjev. I am thinking of switching to Dexcom G7, when it is available, and then to a t:slim x3 pump. My questions for you: ► Which insulin to you currently use with your Tandem t:slim x2 pump? Humalog? Lyumjev? An other insulin? ► When my blood sugar is high, e.g. 200 mg/dl or more, my freestyle libre 2 device shows me between250 mg/dl to 270 mg/dl. There are high deviations. Which experiences have you made with the dexcom G6 for the cases that your blood sugar was over 200 mg/dl. How big were the deviations from the value which dexcom G6 shows to your blood sugar (finger pricking)? Best regards from Germany, Oli
Thanks Oli! To answer your questions: 1- I use Novorapid in my pump 2- Regarding Dexcom G6 discrepancies, I normally only do finger pricks on the first day of my sensor, to ensure it’s accurate, and when my symptoms don’t match the number on the screen. I’ve found the high and low discrepancies to be very minimal, maybe 10-15 points with a really rapidly rising or falling number and maybe 2-5 when I’m stable. The G6 is known for it’s particularly excellent accuracy in the extreme (high + low) levels. I hope the helps and wish you very good luck on your quest for the perfect combo for you!
i believe tandem should have 2 button on the screen when you wake it up a lock screen and unlock screen. It would make it easier to get into the pump much faster.
Great video, I have been a T1 diabetic for 40 years and like you went from the Medtronic to the xtslim about 2 years ago and totally agree with all your pros but I personally don't have any cons regarding this pump. I was curious about a con you mentioned that has never happened to me is the "inclusive alarm" (could be elusive, not certain) that you mentioned, I never knew that there was such an alarm as it never happened to me. Thanks again for your informative videos.
So we're pump switch buddies! Nice! Interesting you don't get the occlusion alarms like me - in fact a lot of people are saying this! Well, I guess I'm going to have to contact tslim on this one! Thank you for flagging and I'm so glad you love your pump too!!! A few cons or not I think it is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!!
Hi Andrea, I was wondering about the clip you said that you bought in Amazon. I can't find it....how do you call it? Can you put the link? Thank you. Your video is really helpfull.
Of course! I’ll link it below. And in case it doesn’t work- it’s called Nite Ize HipClip Mobile Device Pocket Clip Mobile Device Pocket Clip - Multi, N/A!! www.amazon.co.uk/Nite-Ize-HipClip-Mobile-Device/dp/B007CBSBM4/ref=asc_df_B007CBSBM4/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=205171266866&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12798502544455414954&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045917&hvtargid=pla-421071754279&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
I am eligible for this pump (tslim) this upcoming November. I hope it will help me with less low blood sugar. I used to have the omnipod but I had so many errors where I had to throw away so much insulin, I quit after a month. Hope the tslim helps everyone!
Oh, I hope this helps you too! I’ve heard of a lot of people having problems with errors on the Omni pod. That must be so incredibly frustrating! I hope you’re able to find a system that works great for you! 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻
I love your video, very informative. I have had the T slim for 3 years It came with a case and clip. They now have a new case with a clip that turns 360゚ it's great. My biggest objection is the alarms and the pigtail from the cartridge. I also agree that the T slim representatives are A+ I have been a T1D for 59 yrs how long was it for your dad.
I'm so glad to hear you have had the same experiences with the reps - that's so so so good to hear! Also wonderful to hear about the new clip and case! Nice!! Thank you for sharing and thank you for your kind words too! ❤️
The T:Slim does come with a belt clip holster in the Accessories box. If you did not get one of these, contact Tandem. Also, look at Type 1 Tactical.. They make awesome holster/clips for the pump.
My tslim came with a clip on so they must have added it to them. I use the under shirt for mine and really like them. I like my pump if I could get it down pat on putting it on. Right now I’m without it cause I went through to many cause I wasn’t putting it on right. Wish I would have thought to look up the how to put it on video before I went through so many.
Nice review! I got on the t:slim back in October and mine did come with a clip! I wonder if it's a US/UK difference?? Also, I've never gotten an occlusion alarm, so I wonder if that's a problem with your pump specifically. The main complaint I have is with Control IQ when it gives you a correction bolus when you go high, I really wish there was some sort of notification that you're being given insulin. Other than that, I love this pump so much! I really lucked out that I was diagnosed when all this technology already existed. It's made life with type 1 so much easier than it would've been in years past.
I completely agree with you on the notification of correction bolus front - yes!! I would love that as well!! And you're right - mine did come with a clip - but I never used it because it bulked out the pump and made it less slim, but as you and so many others have pointed out - you're absolutely right - this did come with the pump and I apologize for my oversight in mentioning it!! I'm really glad you love your pump as much as I do - technology is so so so integral to good control these days and I just really agree - I'm so grateful for the tech too!!!
I think you did a wonderful job, and you are a great speaker. I was on the fence about signing on with this pump, and your review helped me lean towards it. Thank you.
You are so so welcome! Thank you for watching! I hope you find the best pump for you, I personally love my TSlim but most of all I just want everyone to find the thing that is the best fit for them!
I wish my insurance would have covered the T-Slim x2, they would only cover the Medtronic 770g. Switching from the Omnipod is going has been frustrating because my A1C skyrocketed on the pods. I have everything and am waiting for training. It’s way different than loading pods, but I’m hoping to get my bg back under control.
Oh I'm so so sorry you aren't able to switch to the tslim...I just find it so frustrating when all options aren't open to us - it seems crazy and unfair to me...I'm just really feel for you...! I hope you're able to get your A1C back to where you want it and that you feel better overall as a result! I'm thinking about you my friend and wish you success with your 770g - I hear it's quite stupendous!!
I have been using the t slim pump for 3 years my biggest compliant with it is actually the sites. for me they are the biggest pain in the you what. It typically takes me 2 attempts once i get them inserted and as I try an pull the inserter off it almost seems like either the adhesive is week or the needle is to tight in the site and I pull it off.
fantastic video..thank you so much:). i just received the dexcom g6 which is a big win already and the doc wants to hook me up with the t slim...i am a diab typ 1 for almost 40 years now and it has never been easy to control, but i really want to work on it now because ive added epilepsy to the mix recently *eye roll*....im already in love with the dexcom, waiting for the t slim now and hoping to gain some stability. ill check your videos, keep doing you :) Ina
Oh I'm excited for you to start on your G6! I think you're going to love it!! Well, at least I do! I'm so sorry you've now got an epilepsy diagnosis to deal with. That is a lot my friend. Thinking of you and really really hoping your new tech will give you more flexibility and a sense of relief and freedom in your life!!! 🙏🏻
That is so strange yours did not come with a clip! When I got mine in August of 2020, it was in the box, I think the box with the pump I am pretty sure. There were like three boxes with everything and all of the manuals haha. But it was in there...But the clip/cover is a tad bulky with an already heavier pump. It is nice cause you can make it vertical or horizontal. However, it is just way bulkier and that BUTTON. It is wayyy harder to push with the clip/cover on because it covers the button. It is nice but I have seen others buy that clip from amazon and I think I will be doing that soon to make it lighter and also to access the button better...even though it is difficult no matter what! Just letting you! You are not missing out on much :) Thanks for sharing!
You are right - mine did come with that case, but I considered it more a case than a clip - but you're very right and it was my oversight in not mentioning this!! But also - interesting to know it very much effects the button pressing - my goodness - it's hard enough as it is without making it MORE difficult! Gah! I still love the pump though and I thank you so much for commenting and sharing with me!! 🥰
Yes - I have!! My doctor couldn't get it for me the first time around and therefore I went with Medtronic. And this time I opted for the Tslim because of the awesome technology, but man - I would LOVE a tubeless pump - that's really the dream to me - the tech of the tslim in a tubeless pump!!
I'm so glad! This is the Anker Charging info: Anker PowerCore+ mini (3350mAh Premium Aluminum Portable Charger) Lipstick-Sized External Battery Power Bank // Item model number : AK-A1104011 - I hope this helps!
My personal opinion is that they should be voluntary, if not, we go into a whole other category of who owns your body and your choices...but I understand it's a VERY complicated conversation!
Thanks for this video and all others, much appreciated. Think in the last 48 hours I have watched about 15 of your videos. I have as of Monday just been accepted for NHS funding for a pump, so currently trying to research which one might suit me. T:Slim is looking to be the one for me. Currently I'm using the libre which is NHS funded but looking at self funding and moving to the Dexcom g6 to get the integration with the T:Slim. I would assume that you would agree with this decision as without the Dexcom integration this pump and many other pumps without CGM integration do all the same things (just pumps).
I agree 10000%. Your thinking is spot on. The basal iq feature is a game changer and if you have the finances to self fund with the Dexcom I’d say it’s a no brainer- the tslim is the one for you!
@@ShesDiabetic your opinion and how you have put things from a T1D's point of view is spot on. Thanks. One question I would have though is do you run control IQ - If you do, then do you have issues with alot of the T:slim pump settings are fixed and cant be changed. Example duration of insulin is set to 5h, when control IQ is on but if off you can set anywhere from 1h -5h. If you don't run control IQ and only run basal IQ, why? or is this a personal choice?
Great review! I agree with everything you said. Pros and cons are right on target. I ould add to the cons list. The amount of garbage the infusion change creates is way too much.
Hi, question. I have read in the instruction manual that one should change the black reservoir every 48 - 72 hours. That means, if I fill one black reservoir with 290 ml (max 300 ml) and then after three days I have to pull out the rest insulin of the black reservoir I used and then to refill/push it into an new black reservoir? That is a little bit inconvienient, isn't it. Or how do you have handeld this case?
Thanks for the awesome review, I'm thinking of getting one of these instead of my medtronic. You answered every possible thing, love your style!
I'm Steve from Minnesota and I was diagnosed at 5 years old in 1970 as type 1.
God has really helped me a lot and I'm grateful to be doing well in good shape so far. Sorry to babble, thanks again!
I just got this pump a month ago, I love your video on it. Tandem DID start including a case with clip.
Oh nice!!!! I'm so glad you're loving it so much!!!! And that they are now including a case with it!! HORRAY ALL AROUND!!!!!
Love your channel and thanks for all your inspiring video updates.
wow ur so amazing to be managing your diabetes and performing...u have inspired me
Super excited I'll probably get my first pump in August, so I've been binge watching these type of videos!!
EXCITING!!! Have fun doing all your research, it's my pleasure to be a small part of your process!
i just switched from the omni pod to the tslim and honestly my control is so much better but i just wish there was a tubeless option!!!
Oh my goodness I'm so excited for you!!!! And I'm so glad to hear this! I also wish there was a tubeless option so so so much so I'm right there with you on that one but still I'm so glad to hear your control is so much better that's wonderful!
I am currently on the Omni Pod and considering the tslim. Do you have any regrets? I haven't had a tube in over 13 years!
@@zandriabenne49 I felt the omnipod more b/c it was so big. Dont regret my switch. Hoping for a smaller tubeless option one day.
You're so welcome!! Good luck in your search, I'm honored to be a part of your journey to find the one that suits you best! :)
EXACTLY. EXACTLY!!!!!!
My 14 year old Type 1 is getting hers on the 17th. I can’t wait. I’m hoping for a much better experience with Tandem than I got from Omnipod.
I am watching you with my daughter who is diabetic also. Learning from you as we go through this journey.
I have type-2 diabetes, not needing to take insulin, but still in need of monitoring blood sugar .... and LOVE your videos & subscribed :)
Thank you so so much!!! Welcome to the family!!! 💙💙💙
Xxxx ❤️
@@teresagould6987 That’s great, all the best to you.
Tandem with Dexcom is life changing, I just switched and it gives me huge hope for the future.
No kidding!!! I completely agree!!!
Hey Bryce here. I was diagnosed at age 9 with Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. I am now 26 almost 27 and am upgrading from this Medtronic 630G to this pump. Thanks for the review and you have a new subscriber!
You are so welcome and thank you for subscribing and welcome to the family here!!!!!!!
How do you find it now?,,
Just got my t:slim X2 and Dexcom G6 aboot a week ago and noticed my glucose levels are staying steady and in-range! I love it!
How exciting! I'm so happy to hear this and so glad you love it!
I’m researching the Slim and discovered your video. Very helpful! Appreciate it.
You are so very welcome! Thank you for watching!! :)
I'm 48 years with T1D. The pump is a game changer.
I've been a T1D for 41 years and pumping for 28 years. I start training on my t slim x2 tomorrow. Can't wait!
Happy 20th diaversary Andrea!
This calls for a storytime of your
diagnosis story
Thank you so much Mariana! I would love it if I were this organized, because this would be fantastic!!! Unfortunately my job commitments have stalled content for this week but I hope to have a new video up this Sunday! And a diagnosis story time up soon as well!
This was so informative. You were straight to the point and presented the information so clear. Thank you!!
Thank you so so much! That really means a lot to me!!!!
I have the same pump and I completely agree with everything you just said. Tandem definitely has room for improvement but overall, I love this pump and I have no idea what I would do without it!
AGREED AGREED!!!

@@ShesDiabetic Thank you so much! I’ve been told that he will hopefully use his diagnosis as a way to fight for everything he wants in life and I truly believe he will do just that 💪🏻
He’s honestly been amazing and I’m already inspired by his bravery!
Thank you. I've been thinking about moving from medtronic to tandem and this information helps a lot
I’m nervous too! My pump was sent out last week!
Thank you so much for watching and good luck on your new pump and cgm combo - I really think you're going to love it!!!!!! I'm excited for you!!! 💙
I like your external charging battery hack! Great ida!
Thank you!! I think it was my brother who taught me that one if I remember correctly - so so smart!!!
Mine shipped yesterday. I cannot wait!
EXCITED FOR YOU!!! 😊
Have been missing your videos Andrea. Hope to see a video sometime during the holiday season.
I am about to start using this pump- this video is invaluable! I’ll be able to get the important hacks (clip!) before I start using it. Thank you!
I love the external charging idea I’m going to be using that when I get my pump
It's such an easy hack that has made such a difference to me!!
Where did u get the cable for the danker portable charger
All the best 💐
Oh thank you so much! It is beyond my pleasure! I wish you and your son all the very best!! You guys are not alone!
You are a marvelous partner (if I may!) to have on this journey. Thank you for a well thought-out and thorough presentation of the Tandem t.slim x2 pump. The Medtronic pump I use seems to work well, but the sleekness of the Tandem pump and its upgrade capability has piqued my interest. Looking to hear how the Basal IQ and Control IQ features work for you. Again, thanks! :}
EXACTLY! You state it perfectly - I'm a not a fan of this at all! GAH!
Got mine last week. It came with a clip. I agree about that sticky button. Even worse inside the protective case.
It's so interesting a lot of people have been saying that they don't experience the sticky top button, but clearly you do as well as I! I really hope it's not too bothersome and that you like love your new pump regardless but I totally understand the frustration!!
My pump should arrive next week! I’m anxious to use it but also nervous!
@@ShesDiabetic Thank you very much. I'll try to keep you informed. 😁
Thanks so much for this video to be today’s video. I had zero sleep whatsoever last night and just now had some restorative sleep this morning 8/7c-10/9c and woke up when video was uploaded 😁
What we are all still wanting to know is how you switched
I go for training for a pump this coming month. The dr recommended the t slim.
Oh exciting!! I hope training goes well for you my friend!! 💙
I have the medtronice 670 g. My t slim x2 should be here in a few days. I'm excited 😁
Ooh good luck with it! I'm SO excited for you my friend!!!
This thing looks awesome, I can't wait for this to become avalible in my country😀
It really is - I hope you can get it ASAP!!!!! 🙏🏻
Which Clío did you buy from Amazon?
@@THEWONDERCHANNELL It's a t-holster rotating clip, black. It also comes in clear I believe. Amazon has it for $29.00
Great video. I should be getting mine this month, exited to stop doing MDI. Probably going to get that little clip you suggested too, thanks!
You need to try Omnipod insulin pump one of the Best cheque dado
They’ve always been great
Changing the reservoir on the T-slim seems to have more steps than with Medtronic. You have to have a regular syringe to pull the insulin out of the bottle and into the reservoir. Plus there are a lot of other steps, I’ve noted.
Also, it depends on which insurance you have..
So that’s my take on these pumps.
Anyway, good luck!
Great video I do not see the link for the after market screen protector
im gettting this pump in about a month :))
I'm excited for you!!!
So how do you like it? I’m thinking about switching from the minimed to this one
@@seanc4159 I love it! if you have the dexcom g6 it connects and is so much better. The main thing i like abt it is control IQ, i am normaly scared of going low and passing out in the midle of the night, but if i am going to low it stops all insulin, it is amazing. No more fear for me x
I’m on a 770g pump I just got my tandem pump I can’t wait to use it I guess Medtronic did a recall on the 770g
Good luck and I hope all goes well! Kentucky or not!! And thank you for the skin compliment! It's from PumpPeelz! 🥰
You're so welcome - thank you for sharing and I wish you all the very very best on this pump - I think you're going to love it!!
Sadly, I think at this moment that just comes with the territory of pump life - I hope it changes in the future though!!!
the omnipod takes a min of 85 units to work. I use about 26 units a day.
I love our planet too much to do that :/
This was a life saver for me
Oh I'm so so honored!! Thank you for saying this and watching and for being so kind!! 🥹💙
I’ve just began the insulin part of diabetes journey. I’d love to have one of these at some point. Right now I’m dialing those insulin pens for every meal.
@Engelbert Humperdinck no not over weight. Type 1.5 or LADA Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults. My pancreas shut down.
My questions for you:
► Which insulin to you currently use with your Tandem t:slim x2 pump? Humalog?
Best regards from Germany,
Oli
Thanks Oli! To answer your questions:
1- I use Novorapid in my pump
2- Regarding Dexcom G6 discrepancies, I normally only do finger pricks on the first day of my sensor, to ensure it’s accurate, and when my symptoms don’t match the number on the screen.
Oh I agree and love this idea!!!

I have the Medtronic 770g ...it’s amazing ❤️
YAY!! I'm so glad you have a pump that you love! That is by far and away the most important thing!!!
The Information was Incredible and thank You for the explanation. Just If You Can Shorten Next time will be very proactive and time wise. Gracie.
The T:Slim does come with a belt clip holster in the Accessories box. If you did not get one of these, contact Tandem. Also, look at Type 1 Tactical.. They make awesome holster/clips for the pump.
It did! I only realized this after filming this 😅 - but thank you for the Type 1 Tactical suggestion - I'm going to check them out!!
11 months!! You’ve been hiding it 8 out of the 11 months lol
I only noticed it when you showed us in your sick time vlog from December 2020 😊
Oh gosh I'm so sorry to hear this!! Maybe you need to try a different kind of site/cannula length? I'm so sorry that is very annoying indeed!!! :(
fantastic video..thank you so much:). i just received the dexcom g6 which is a big win already and the doc wants to hook me up with the t slim...i am a diab typ 1 for almost 40 years now and it has never been easy to control, but i really want to work on it now because ive added epilepsy to the mix recently *eye roll*....im already in love with the dexcom, waiting for the t slim now and hoping to gain some stability.
ill check your videos, keep doing you :) Ina
Have you ever considered trying tubeless pumps like Omnipod?
Yes - I have!! My doctor couldn't get it for me the first time around and therefore I went with Medtronic. And this time I opted for the Tslim because of the awesome technology, but man - I would LOVE a tubeless pump - that's really the dream to me - the tech of the tslim in a tubeless pump!!
I enjoy my Tandem Tslim a lot. What is the Ankel model number in charging? Thanks…
I'm so glad! This is the Anker Charging info: Anker PowerCore+ mini (3350mAh Premium Aluminum Portable Charger) Lipstick-Sized External Battery Power Bank // Item model number : AK-A1104011 - I hope this helps!
Do you think vaccines should be compulsory or voluntary?
Just my opinion though!!!
