Eating Lies: The Alarming Truth Behind Food Industries

  • Horse-meat mislabeled as beef. Honey diluted with cheap sugar syrups. Counterfeit extra-virgin olive oil. Food crime has become a multi-billion dollar industry, impacting everything from the most affordable to the most expensive ingredients. Approximately 10% of our consumed food is believed to be adulterated. "What we know for sure is that food fraud is growing exponentially and it’s more and more worrying," states one consumer advocate.
Criminal syndicates have infiltrated the global food supply chain, eroding consumer trust in labels and the contents of their plates. In Italy, the mafia controls entire sectors of the food industry, while worldwide, well-organized criminal networks collaborate to exploit intricate supply chains. Scams vary from intentionally mislabeling inferior products as premium items to substituting one foodstuff for something entirely different. The profits are staggering. But what risks does this pose to consumers? How can we detect food fraud? And what measures can be taken to halt it?
In this investigation, we shadow the food fraud brigades, shedding light on the limited knowledge we have about what we're consuming. From the olive groves of Italy to the fish markets of France and the abattoirs of Poland, this film takes you on a culinary journey of a distinct kind. It's a global exploration into the realm of counterfeit food, revealing the hidden complexities of this industry.

Yeah no way those fine conservatives and there never ending quest to fill those already fat wallets fatter faster could ever resort to supporting things like this. They're all great Americans. Take Chump for example. Makes his ties in China. Sells BS tickets to Chump University. Stiffs those who have worked for him. Finds ways to inflate holdings to scam. And even dodges a draft that a lot of really good men paid the ultimate price because they didn't have a wealthy relative. Pay no mind that something like 70 percent or more of all financial gains have been funneled to the 1 percent. And those fine Conservatives STILL give tax credits to them. Even though they did quite well when the corporate tax rates were far more than they are now. And lest we forget the last few years how they costs of everything I can think of has sky rocketed and still rise and rise. (even though the claims they made that caused it have subsided) and record corporate profits are reported year after year. And even worse is the fact that the middle class and the American Dream itself vanishes for the masses more and more every year. And hey, don't get me wrong. There is not one politician I can say I like. I fine them all to be an unsavory lot who lie and lie to support an agenda that's been around for quite awhile if you look for it. Nothing but a gang of self serving self enriching bunghwholes who support that agenda that, let's face it, is not in our best interest.@@buzz5969

Some just throw it away in strip joints or in Las Vegas, other pay ridiculous high prices for a Ferrari (and even more money to keep it running) or for an ugly painting of sunflowers. I worked in the meat industry in a full throughput [slaughtered, butchered & packaged] meat plant in Wales for 4 1/2yrs. It dealt solely with lamb.
Traceability is a joke. If insufficient lamb from a particular source was available to fulfil an
orders, fraudulent paperwork was created, & ear tags substituted to match the paperwork. For example, if insufficient Scottish or Welsh lamb was available, English or Southern Irish lamb would be substituted.
It was common for bogof [buy one get one free] & similar offers to be over produced. These offers are usually available for a single week, & the order sizes are frequently larger than the plant can produce on a daily basis. The solution is to begin producing the offer products during the previous week, using extended sell by dates - 10 or 11 days instead of 8. At the end of the week, any offer packages remaining, are repackaged with an 8 day shelf life.
Vacuum packed meat is packaged & sold all year round, as fresh. Sometimes, out of date vacuum packed meat is used & packaged as fresh.
Meat which has been dropped on the floor is always picked up, brushed off & packaged for sale.
Meat has to be kept below a certain temperature during all production processes. Frequently, this is ignored, & meat which is even 4 or 5 degrees above the maximum allowed, is packaged for sale - & the paperwork completed using fraudulent figures.
'Packaged in a protective atmosphere' is a laugh. An emergency exit door was required to be fitted in the packaging department. The company owner would not pay the higher cost of the work being carried out outside production hours, so it was done during production. A hole was made using an angle grinder, & producing clouds of fine dust during production.
There are many more examples of meat abuse during production, but it would take too long to list them all.

I raised livestock for years and now that I don't I only eat fish, and veg that I grow, with a bit of elk and venison. What the beef is fed in the midwest US feedlots would horrify you.

Ugh, the older I get the more cynical I get about all big business but big supermarkets and food manufacturers (manufacturing food?? Surely food should be grown?) especially. I’m v v poor but food is not a place I save money on- I’m putting it INSIDE my body. So I go to supermarkets as few times as possible and find places where the chain/distance between food grown and food sold is absolutely as short as possible. You just have to buy less and waste a LOT less. Apparently about a third of food we buy us chucked out as waste. Get rid of the waste and you can pay more for what you eat

i remember reading when i was young, i am 73 now, an article about Spanish Olive Oil diluted with cheap -engine - oil. people had died because of this.
Years ago there was also an article with photos, horrible photos, of mothers with their kids in their arms, being blind, deaf, deformed, from eating fish that was poisoned with mercury.
The stories about lice and the salmon in these fish farms, are known since years.
Stinking meat, horse meat, made into Lasagna, Kebabs, Doner are all known. Since years.
What is being done about? Nothing or even less. It is MONEY THAT COUNTS; MONEY;MONEY MONEY:::
Aber 2.28 Minuten in die Sendung. Ist das Steak tartare und Pommes? Und der Salat dazu.Auf dem Teller da.

Engine oil in food oil? I'm hoping that's fake news, usually counterfeit olive oil will have cheaper vegetable oils like corn, canola or soy. Horse meat at least is healthy I'd think.

@@BensCoffeeRants THAT time there was no such a thing as - fake news- ... And i put - engine oil- this way. because it was the same way it was written already back then.( it was in a Reader's Digest magazine)
And the scandal with horse meat was NOT that it was horse meat. But it was NOT declared as horse meat. Which is far cheaper than beef, as it was written on the boxes and packets. And even sausages or salami. were adulterated..
By the way there is no better Salami than the one made in Macedonia. 50% donkey and 50 % horse meat. BUT is is being declared. And the price is accordingly.
      THAT was the -problem.
      With this Lasagna and Ravioli.
Subsidising for a cheaper product, but not declaring it.
But dont think it happened with the - cheaper cuts - only.
Prime cuts like tenderloin, sirloin and other prime cuts that demand top prices were just sold without the name -beef- . It was not BAD meat, but should have been far cheaper...

One thing for sure, as more of us turn away from God, our once Christian based nations that were more heavily populated with morals from our faith, are walking away from faith, Jesus and the Bible. It will always lead us to debauchery, depravity, immorality, greed and deception.
Now I'm not saying that 25-50-100 years ago we did not have corruption including in food production. As long as some people are caught up in human vagaries we will have issues like in this video.
But when we were still solid majority in faith, we better self governed. We feared God's judgment on us. But as we are deceived more away from God, we easily fall victim to human failings and immorality.
Look around you in life and ask,are we more lost, immoral, wicked, selfish, greedy, ungodly today than our society was 20-30-40-50+ years ago?

Horsemeat an incredible finding? Maybe 15 years ago Food Safety in Europe did a test in the frozen food meats and 85% was found to be Horsemeat. France was famous for Horse Butcheries. Every Chinese Restaurant/Take out in the city I live in, was closed for serving Cat. They reopened and the amazement is that people still go there!
Especially if you were starving, you'd eat something not knowing what it was and ask for seconds. We've all eaten something that we don't know what it was - like this Horsemeat find. I bet nobody complained it tasted funny😅

And they never said nobody eats Horse-meat - people also eat dogs, cat, rat, snails, grubs - or that the scandal JUST happened recently, it was clearly about the entire on-going issue. "Especially if you were starving" - in that case, let's include human corpses from any local funeral home or hospital, starving people have eaten those with no complaints. 😅

Solution: Buy local from producers and grow your own IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Even one big planter with greens and a tomato plant is better than nothing. Or join a community garden.
