You're still my favorite airplane channel.
My issue with pushing potential danger away from the aeroplane is that is moves the danger into a larger crowd of people. The queue before security. Can't get past security? No problem. Blow yourself up in the line instead.
Flying is very bad for the environment so it's good if we discourage as many as possible from it.

Israel's security is so good because they can use profiling. Profiling allows you to focus your security resources on the people you really need to keep an eye on. In the US granny's get strip searched because the TSA has to treat everybody equally.
I'm Israeli and I can confirm.
Most security forces/services training puts emphasize on suspicious behavior which can be a person walking quickly among a crowd.
This is all mostly based on experience, "written in blood" if you will.
When I was at the central bus station in Be'er Sheva, a guy really needed to take a piss and he was literally running and trying to cut the line, and he was blocked by all of the security guards at the entrance hall..m
TSA can't detect 95 percent of weapons, but when I went to see the liberty Bell I got held up for over 10 minutes over a damn harmonica
security theater
Its because they are working a useless dead end job with no real power, so they take it out on everyone else.
Same, when I was visiting the Washington Monument I got arrested because I tried to bring 1kg of cocaine and 1kg of explosives up!
In all seriousness, my sisters and mother always get held up at airport security because they have food, my baby sisters bottle/sippy cup, or coins, while my dad and I are super quick and are at the gate before their even through the detectors
That's because they are trying to protect the liberty bell. Doing that for a harmonica doesn't make sense, but in 2001 someone actually did strike the bell with hammer so it's not unprecedented exactly.
Every time I go thru airports they check my shit bc I carry a harmonica and they ask me to blow in it to prove its not an assault rifle or something lol

Ones religious preference is not a security factor. In Israel it is socially impolite to ask outright "what is your religion".
In Israel we have large minorities of Arab Christians, Arab Muslim, Druze, Bedouin Muslim. Many serve in the Israeli armed forces, army, police etc...so we don't really care if a tourist is Muslim or not.
I usually get 1, when I travel alone I might get 2. Once I was very mad from line from the questioning and was bit angry at the worker there and I got 2.

I live in Israel. I wanted to meet some friends in Germany.
I'm male.
I traveled alone
I'm 19
And I'm arab.
They didn't even give me the interview and immediately slapped on a 6.
I just found it funny that I checked every single requirement to be higher risk.
Although, I do still find it slightly odd. I think the main reason for this high security was because of my Arab family name. I have light brown hair and European like light skin. I also speak Hebrew fluently without even a hint of a different accent.
Fun fact, on the way back to Israel I spoke to the interviewer about gaming and mainly overwatch. It was a nice conversation but I still got high security risk... I felt betrayed.
And lastly, there is a security clearance system in Israel to work certain jobs. So I think giving the airport that kind of info to affect direct family should cut down time for many people. Just a speculation idk if its actually a good idea.
You aren't surprised, just confirming the facts in this video, right?
Don't feel bad, I'm kinda a nerdy asian dude and I still get patted town... probably cause I usually travel alone as well.

I’m an ordinary Caucasian man and got the third degree by some TSA dingbat upon arrival in Newark while three men who could have been Osama bin Laden’s quadruplet brothers breezed through passport control.
Another time when arriving back in Europe, I was pulled out for secondary customs inspection and passport control in my own country while two Arab looking women on one way tickets, no money and unable to speak any western language were allowed to go while my bags were turned inside out.
Listen man, I live in Israel too and I'm deeply against racism, but you can't say it's a bad system since pretty much all of terrorist attacks are done by Male traveling alone Arab people. I hate the fact you were judged by your race but the security of the citizens is much more important than some people feeling uncomfortable. The system was proved effective and if the cost of saving life is a little racism than its unfortunately a good system

Years ago I stumbled across a video clip from an unknown source, titled “passport control,” which seemed to be from an Israeli comedy show something like SNL in the US. Apparently, Israelis don’t take ALL of their security procedures seriously, and I got a chuckle from it.
In the skit, a young woman in uniform was screening passengers, and a clean cut young man presented his passport. The agent looked at him and the passport, shook her head, and said “Lo” (the only Hebrew words I know which were used in the skit are “lo” and “ken”). The man motioned for her to wait, pulled out a kafiyeh (Arab headdress) and put it on; she still said “lo.” He pulled a false beard out of his bag and put it on; still “lo.” Then he held up an AK-47 and posed with it, making a “victory” sign with his free hand. Finally, with the man looking exactly like a Palestinian fighter, she smiled, nodded, said “Ken,” then stamped and returned his passport!
If any Israeli citizens recognize the skit and know the names of the actors, the name of the show, or the year it aired on Israeli TV, please reply here.
Oh, and congratulations to your newest Hollywood Star, Gal Gadot!
Allan Richardson that's probably from eretz nehederet, I'll see if I can find it.
Also, yes, since we have security screenings everywhere (metal detectors and x-ray machines at malls and train stations) it's part of everyday life and people make jokes about it.

Its called a "safety ratchet" for a reason. It only goes one direction. No one looks good advocating for less safe things. So once a "safety" thing has been implemented, it is somewhat permanent. The only exception is when you get an opportunity to start over. "We're going to implement a brand new set of rules" is when they can choose to leave things out and hopefully safety advocates don't catch on.

Gotta say, the pressure chamber is an ingenious idea. The "warning signal to put the plane into a dive"? Damn. That's sharp.
Honestly, they could probably use a different fuse (perhaps a time fuse for a few hours for a 4-hour flight) or something of that sort. And also, it might be meal time during that dive, so it might be beneficial to the security or the attacker.
They could set the fuse to trigger the second time the pressure drops, accounting for the one in the checkpoint.

Most hate groups in America consist of white male extremely conservative and extremely religious (Christianity) people. The most notorious hate group, the KKK, feature a cross on their clothing. just a note, ICAO isn't a regulating body 0:59. It doesn't have a position of authority over its member countries. It sets standards and recommended practices (SARPs) in order to foster safe international aviation. Each member country has its own regulating body which imposes its own aviation regulations, these regulations are based on ICAO's SARPs and can differ a bit to adapt to each country's needs. just noting that there is a difference between regulating and setting standards :)

Simply put, they have all the reason to do so, and then pin it on Assad. The US wants Assad gone so they can put in their oil line, ISIS wants Assad gone because he's a secular leader.
Planning an attack on a place with any security at all is, you know, actual work. Stealing a car or truck and hitting people is way easier. It can happen pretty much anywhere (near roads). All the Israeli passengers above 18 are as well
All Israeli are not 18 that's funny there is a lot of babys likes every flight
You are right they are asked me they are x fighter jet in Israel
Maybe if everyone goes in and out of the airport naked with no luggage. Airports will be more secured 😂😂. Because all these screenings aren't just enough.
People pass drugs by stuffing them into condoms and swallowing them, or inserting them in their body cavities. So even naked, they could smuggle stuff!
And since X-rays would likely not have the contrast to distinguish them from your stomach's normal content, even that wouldn't stop it.
Full-body MRI perhaps? That too could possibly be foiled by adjusting the water content of what you're smuggling to get the right contrast.
Get ready for thorough cavity searches 😉
What if I hide it in me but
surgically planted bombs?
Just feed everyone laxatives before the flight. Add that and no one can hide a thing. The investment in extra bathrooms will be worth it.

Having flown through TLV this now all makes a lot more sense. I just checked my passport sticker. I got a #5 and had heaps of interview questions. Solo male traveler in my early 20s certainly didn’t help that situation...
I had to stop the video at 6:05 and go find my passport. I had no idea that's what the barcode meant. I had a 5 as the first number! I remember being searched WAY more than necessary the last time I flew through Ben Gurian airport. Thanks for the update. Now I can at least be prepared next time.

The statistic of the lack of successful terrorist acts from the USA after September 2001 is interesting but has anyone looked at the rate of similar acts PRIOR to that date? When comparing equal spans of time it might be revealing how little things have actually changed. The last terrorist act I can recall before that date in the USA was back in the early 1980s.
On a side note, I find it a bit funny that the TSA touts the fact that no such acts have occurred yet is unable to prove that they are the cause of this lack of events.
Good thoughtful video as always.
“We’re gonna check for bombs by setting them off!” Goddamn LMAO

Airport security might not be able to detect dangerous items, but it may discourage people from bringing them. The fear of getting caught and sent to jail might make people think twice about what they pack. It might also force terrorists to think of different ways to sneak past security, slowing down their attacks.

Holy cow, never thought of TSA as a second hand death casualty culprit =0
me neither! not only that, but the added drivers add traffic which brings the chances of death higher as well. never thought reducing airport security could make the roads safer!
Yea dude. Flying is a safe way to travel, but TSA scares people off, they will get on a car and have a higher risk of dying.
1.5x playback everything - thank me later I'm old enough to remember tracking decades before 9/11. The same idiots I saw before 9/11 sleeping on a stool while 'guarding' a locked door are the people folded into the TSA. They have unions and are nearly impossible to fire, especially if they are a minority. The governemt usually sucks at what they do. Go back to private security and have real accountability. Employ security professionals. Hell, send them to Israel to be trained and weeded out if that is what it takes. Most of all, realize that political correctness is not worth a single death.
I certainly know increased airport security got very annoying. So time consuming.
I used to bring small pocket knives onto aircraft. Those are barely a threat, but nowadays you wouldn't be allowed to.
Yet in the mid 90's nobody batted an eyelid even going through security with them.
Anyway, all things have consequences many of which aren't immediately obvious.
It's counter-intuitive, but essentially correct; Increased airport security may indeed be increasing the death rate overall.
Makes aircraft (marginally) safer, but it makes travel in general less safe.
Go figure.
I flew out of Ben Gurion several times (since I used to live there). That interview he refers to is true. Even overseas, the degree of the interview I received was crazy. And I'm a Hebrew speaker! (But I completely understand why the security is this tight and agree - it's necessary) I checked the barcodes on my passport, I got some 1s and some 2s. It makes sense that I didn't always get 1. I always get nervous in airports.
That thing about arriving 3 hours early? Absolutely true. Even now that I no longer live in Israel, I can't help but arrive at airports 3 hours early. And I keep on getting shocked by how quickly I get to check in (because I'm used to Israeli security standards, not Australian security).
You lived in the airport? That sounds inconvenient
How would an autistic young male do? Symptoms of autism are similar to those of suspicious behavior.
U forgot to mention that Israelis love the duty free shops so that’s another reason for Israelis arriving early
Well Aussie airports are easy. They don't check ID when boarding domestic flights. And small town domestic airports have REMOVED security screening.

humans operating without someone looking over them is always a bad idea. Most people will be fine but there will be a few that will abuse the system and thats why security is there, to weed them out.
I suspect the most impactful decisions we made were also the cheapest. Things like "keep the cockpit door closed" and "don't just let them land you in cuba 'cause that's not the only thing they might want" are virtually free, started working before we'd managed to ground all the planes in the air, and shift the risk-reward drastically.

OnceUponATimeThereWasAPersonWithALongUsername.TheElongationOfThatUsernameWasPlainlyLegendary That's a common misconception. The vast majority of "Palestinians" (the term didn't even really exist until the '60s) fled in fear of the war that the Arab nations started, by the way, or because the Arab leaders in the region promised them they would be able to return soon, anticipating an easy destruction of every single Jew in the middle east. That didn't happen, unfortunately for them, but fortunately for the advancement of science, intellectualism, startups (i.e. Waze which has a built in dangerous Arab area GPS), and agriculture sciences, which has saved an astonishingly huge amount of lives worldwide. We should be grateful for Israel's existence. Seriously.
OnceUponATimeThereWasAPersonWithALongUsername.TheElongationOfThatUsernameWasPlainlyLegendary The difference between the two of us is that I support Israel based on the facts and reality of the situation, but by no means do I dismiss the Palestinians' right to their land. I feel for the Palestinians. I dearly hope that they decide to vote in something other than a terrorist organization in Gaza, and a government that does anything in the West Bank. I eagerly anticipate the day when we put this conflict behind us and learn to love each other. I hope I don't offend you by saying this, but Israel IS there. It HAS done a lot to help the world in general. It DOES support minority rights and the practice of other religions much more than any Arab/Muslim majority country. If Israel took down the wall, and laid down their weapons and defense systems, Israel would be gone by next week, and the vast majority of Jews there would be dead. We saw that that is what the Arabs wanted to do during the Six Day War, which, had Israel lost, there wouldn't be an Israel. That goes for every other war as well. The Arabs are united in one thing - their desire for the destruction of the only country in the world that has a Jewish majority. (20% of citizens are Arab, and there are Arabs in parliament, unlike Arab countries that have zero Jews in positions of power.) Every war is a fight for literal survival, and there's no room for civility when your life or existence is contantly at stake. That being said, the amount of civilian casualties that Israel inflicts are actually statitically much lower than what happens during other wars, so, while tragic, it's not really that "evil." (Barring intentional casualties, of course.) Zionism, by the way, is the desire for Jews to have a place where they can live to avoid persecution. That doesn't sound so crazy, does it? Jews have been persecuted everywhere they went (the Crusades, Pogroms, the Holocaust, the legal exile of Jews from many countries in Europe, including Spain, Portugal, Britain, and more, etc.). Someone finally put their foot down and said let's get these people their own place to live, grow, and prosper unfettered. Someone had to accommodate the Jews' entrance, and the Palestinians were those people. Israel transformed the land from a barren wasteland to an oasis with a booming economy, which actually does help the Palestinians that choose to embrace it. Don't jump on the bandwagon, I beg you. Please look beyond what the media, etc. is telling you, and come to a real conclusion yourself.
Interesting point on how making planes so expensive causes more death because people have to drive. It costs me and my wife about $250 to drive to California to visit family. If we flew, it would be about $250 each. Meaning flying is twice as expensive for both of us. But I’ve been really nervous about other drivers, and almost involved in several high speed accidents while driving. Interesting point.
I wish that I could fly for $50-$100. We could travel every month, not once or twice a year.

Driving is dangerous 🤣.... I love to drive car that too in Indian roads..... I cruise at speed around 100 Km/hr to 119km/hr easily at average of 85km/hr...... My biggest fear airport security being stopped because I look suspicious. Thanks to life events , my feet sweat so much that leaves a footprint of sweat, my reaction times , and I do things like pick my fingernails and so on. Even though I would never do anything remotely bad, I always have to try not to look suspicious going in the airport. I never been pat down but I hope that never changes.
Yeah, some people's fears become a self fulfilling prophecy. My mother will spend the entire security line fretting, out loud no less, about if security has to search her bags because she has needles in them (for medicine). And then to her complete shock (but no one else's) she gets picked for a "random" secondary inspection every time. Like you just spent an hour talking about how you're concerned that security might search your bags, *of course* they're gonna search your bags.

As someone who lives in Israel he is spot on about Israeli security at the airport. The first checkpoint is when you drive in. Everybody is stopped for at least a few seconds. You can also come in by train but to get on the train you also need to pass through security plus there are security guys on the train. It seems like a lot but the truth is you don't even notice it they do everything so quickly.

Perfect airport security: Inject antifreeze and chill passengers to below zero so they can not perform any terrorist activities. then ship them in stackable cargo containers to send them to their destination where you replace antifreeze with blood again, then thaw and revive them. This also allows the budget travel option of cargo ship, rail and truck transport with standard cargo containers instead of airfreight. On a cargo ship any bomb you smuggle into your luggage will cause no casualties if you put the luggage containers at the other end of the ship.
I would be down for that. Since I'll be sleeping or effectively dead while under antifreeze, it would basically be like teleportation (without accounting for time). But better to be sleeping than sitting at the gate and on the plane for hours.
Would most certainly make for a bad yelp review
Not that you could review anything being frozen.
MrMonkeybat - Let US Marshals Service run the airports and airlines. Everyone would be stripped, orifice probed, jumpsuited, waist- and ankle-chained then taken to the airport by secure train or bus. Marshals with shotguns would guard everyone from beginning to end.
Sander A. - Save a lot on food (if you can call it that) and drinks. Eliminate restrooms aboard.
I recently took a domestic flight in New Zealand and it was like going to a bus station. No security checkpoints anywhere. I don't know what their safety statistics are, but I was super happy with the process.
why do you think 50 people got shot?
I live in Israel, and there was a time (about a year ago) where terror attacks happened every other day. So there is a reason why they have this kind of safe and long security. And to be honest when I go to another airport, I'm like "wow that security check was fast".

About 40 years ago I can remember deciding on a whim to go see my dad in L.A. I drove from Stanford, where I was going to school at the time, to SJC, which took about 20 minutes. I had no luggage, and bought my PSA ticket from a vending machine at the gate. They closed the door just after I got on, so we were airborne 30 minutes after I decided to go visit him. The flight was very cheap, too - even as a student, it wasn't very expensive - I want to say $39. Within two hours of deciding to visit my dad, I was sitting in his living room. Those days are gone for good (although the fact that I now live 1500 miles away from my dad, instead of 400, has something to do with it).
Over here in southeast Asia, it takes a mere 2 minutes to get through security. 5 minutes on an Intl airport.

I think my problem with Israeli airport security is Anxiety. Lot's of people get super anxious before walking through Airport Security, myself included, and they are probably doing nothing wrong, but they'll get deemed high risk because they are nervous. You can't factor anxiety into the interview, because a terrorist may very well say they have Anxiety and act anxious in order to pass through.
