    JD, just finished the BDS suspension install on my '86. Stayed with the 33" for now but I wrestle with the 33 vs 35 every day. Thanks for the tips on the BDS system as well as the PSC upgrade (which was part of this project) including new steering shaft. I went with the 1/2" BDS shackles and now have an even 28" front and back on 33's. Went old school with white spoke rims like those that came from the factory. Line-X in the tub looks amazing. Wouldn't have even thought of that instead of carpet but am so happy with that switch. Your videos and "watch out" advice has been incredible. Thanks again.

      Tim your Jeep sounds awesome and thank you for the feedback. I have zero regrets with my PSC set up or the BDS springs. I love the look of the 35's on the Jeep but that's a decision you will make in time! Thank you for watching and for the comment/feedback. Email me a pic of your Jeep at JD_Offline@yahoo.com. Would love to see it. JD

    I just finished my restoration on my 73' cj5. I went with a 4in super lift and have 35in tires also. I left my stock 3:73 gears in but ended up throwing a bigger carburetor on my 258 and it honestly has more power than it did before. I would wait and save the money to build it correctly the first time. Not sure how much power you would want, but my buddy had a build 350 pushing about 430hp. It was absolutely crazy for a 74' cj5 and would lift a front tire of the ground when he punched it.

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s crazy!! I’m not looking for extreme power just more get up and go than I can get out of the stock motor. I’ve got my eye on a 330 horsepower Chevrolet crate motor. Thanks for the comment and good luck with your Jeep.

    Great vid, good editing. Jeep looks great, it's been a long build but it's definitely done right. This is not your average clapped out, rigged up CJ. I have seen it in person and let me tell you as good as the vids are they don't do it justice. It's a beautiful Jeep. I vote you leave the 258 in it and enjoy it for a season or two. Recharge the build fund and go fuel injected small block after you enjoyed driving it with the suspension and cosmetic restoration you already finished.

    Hey JD, Great video! This helps me a lot. I also have an 83 cj7. Currently I'm running 31s with about a 15 year old black diamond 2.5 lift (i would imagine its settled a good amount.) And .410 gears (dana 30 front amc 20 rear🤢) I like the new lift with 35s and would like to run a similar setup. Are you running the same axles or did you upgrade yours? Also have you noticed any clearance issues since you've posted this? Thanks again your jeep looks great!

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tim. No clearance issues and the only axle upgrade I did was to convert the rear axle from a two piece axle to one piece axle shafts. This was done more in anticipation of the 350 conversion than anything else. I will tell you the BDS lift gave me a lot of clearance to clear the 35's. Like you, I had an old worn out suspension lift and I was amazed at how much the new lift gave me in terms of height and clearance. I have another video on my channel you should check out.

      I go through the lift height gains on this vid. Thanks Tim for the feedback and comment.

    Love ALL your video's, really helpful to me and my Jeep restoration. I have a question for you, if its been asked before sorry. I am currently looking at shackle angle on my Jeep. I installed a 4 inch lift as well. My Shackles now have the same angle as yours (with your lift) however initally you had a 45 degree angle ( roughly) Do you feel a ride difference??

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dean. First let me say thanks for the feedback and I'm glad the videos are helpful! As far as the shackle angle with the new lift, I think the new lift rides better than my Jeep did before. Maybe due to the old worn out springs or wrong sized shackles I had on there (2.5 inches on the front compressed down with a bolt to 2 inches) but it rides great keeping in mind it is a lifted 83 Jeep. Thanks again for the question and feedback. JD

      @@JDOffline ok, thanks! Mine is a 258, running T5 trans, soon to install 2.5” skyjacker lift. Probably will run 32x11.50 tires because I am keeping the factory chrome wagon wheels. Thinking of re-gearing with 4:10. I re-geared a 2004 TJ to 4:56 with 33’s. Single best thing I did because it had no problems pulling a fairly large trailer after that!

    Don’t swap in a 350, the straight 6 doesn’t have a lot of HP but it’s really heavy witch makes the vehicle front heavy witch makes it really good at climbing. I’m no expert but if you ask any old Jeep/Land Rover/FJ nut they’ll tell you the same thing.

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Leslie, well it was a combination of 2.5 springs and shackles. It was supposed to be a 4 inch lift but I gained a lot of height with the BDS lift I put in so if it was a 4 inch lift it was worn out. I have some other videos on my Jeep playlist that cover this in a lot of detail. Thank you for the comment. JD

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael, thanks for the sub!! The short answer is yes, all of the above had to be upgraded. The short list is new transmission (ax15) as the T4 cannot handle V8 power, rebuild T case (the Dana 300 is pretty stout), new gears mainly to compensate for the larger tires and upgraded one piece axle shafts in the rear axle. th-cam.com/video/10tl7V1j8Ls/w-d-xo.html Check out this link on how I modified and repaired mine. I've had no issues with the 35 on there as the CJ tire mount mounts on the body with some pretty heavy hardware. I did move mine up to clear the bumper and had I not done that it may have hit the bumper. But I think the stock carrier is fine for 35's as long as it clears your bumper. JD
