THANK YOU!!!! I bought a 87 YJ with a 3inch body lift and flat springs. I have been looking at the 2.5 Rough Country lift but wasn’t sure what it look look like. Your video was just what I needed.
I am brand new to the YJ mafia. Just got an 89 YJ and your video gave me some solid knowledge. I learned I have the same body lift as you. Running 32 tires with 4 cylinder. I'm not sure how high my lift is on springs but I really like how you have your jeep set up. Really clean.
your yj looks in new condition, Nice. My 92 yj had frame repair , tub repair and still rotted haha ., lower and upper shock mounts welded/replaced , I have 2" body lift, 4" RC suspension lift w/Boomerang shackles (1"), 35s on the same AR rims you run, RR tie rod bar/drag link, flares removed... ton's of other work done and always finding more to repair haha but the yj is my favourite jeep.
I have a ‘87 YJ that I bought with a rough country 4 /2” lift with a 1 3/4” body lift and 35” tires. I’m in the process of re-gearing it because the spider gears in the rear broke just by daily driving… 35” tires are heavy with the stock 3.07 gears. Going to 4.56 gears and will probably drop to 33” tires
To be perfectly objective, a body lift and tires would be the best lift you could do to preserve suspension geometry. Also, a body lift has a better center of gravity than a full lift. I think you did the best anyone could do.
just bought a 1990 jeep yesterday for 1500 and the more I look around the more of a deal I got!!! technically I have 1500 worth of tires let alone this rough country lift kit... These Jeeps are so incredibly awesome....Ive been wrenching for 30 years and was waiting for one of these to fall in my lap... and it did.......I either have to fall in or climb up to drive something around here lol..LOVEEEE
"Yes. I do have a broken shock mount right there". You and me both, same location. I wish I could say it was the first time haha. Great looking YJ as well, my friend.
I recently got an 89 YJ that I will be building for my son's first vehicle. A lift, tires, and wheels are absolutely on the list of things to do. I started a thread on WikiJeeps YJ forum but if you have any other tips, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
Never seen a 2.5 suspension with 35’s. Personally dont like body lifts over 1.25inches. I think ill just throw in a 4 inch and ad 1inch bodyblift. Still somewhat low, and better articulation
All you YJ haters, take a look at a real jeep! Just plain sweet, I'll take one of these over the new garbage their selling today!...ohh wait, I have one!!!
I'm looking to get new leaf spring w/shock kit for my 95 yj. Getting 33's (have Nitto Grappler M/T 31's now) which brand lift kit do you recommend and what offset for wheels? My research so far suggests a -12 offset.
As an engineer, body lifts scare me more than pretty much any other mod people commonly do to jeeps. Suspension lifts are more complicated, but much safer. Good looking jeep though.
You can replace yj flares with tj flares. Allows for trimming inner fenders 2 inches up and forward and back. Opens wheel wells a lot. Body lifts don't do a thing to lift frame, can cause break over issues. 3 and 1 half inch springs with 2 inch longer shackles will give you 4 and a half inches lift without body lift. Lot of differant ways to achieve usable lift. Do you have disconnects for sway bar? Nice jeep with this set up. Only way to find out is to use it. Have fun and be safe.
I got a 91 yj lifted 4.5 on 35s with 355 gearing i wanna go with 456 but honesly 5th in mines not bad on tbe leavel at 75 80mph but 55 and under foeget it lol i just did a stage 2 clutch flywheel its got a 4.0 stroker i do wanna do a body lift just to lazy do it lol
I got mine on ebay 55.00 and they're made really good comes with all hardwear they are for the 97 but i like the lights on tbe flars better there 12.00 set on ebay for the marker lights a set or Amazon
I'm running soa with waggy springs. On a stretch front and back. Frenched spring hangers. Total lift maybe 4.5 inches at most. 35 tires. You don't need any more than that
Yea!!! Rocking the waggie springs, me too! Streatch with 35s 👍. Although I’m running 3inch lifted wagoner springs; total lift easy 6 inches and room for 37’s sua.
Highline fenders,1" body lift,no suspension lift slap some tj brackets on the front and run a xj front dana 30, swap in a 8.8 in the back and you will have an almost perfect yj
Diff and gearing is next. It’s a good ride for an old jeep. If you don’t upgrade your gears you’ll find that 5th is useless. This fall ill be doing a video on gear swap and clutch install.
Quick question bro, I have a 1990 Yj it has 35on there with stock suspension and it rubs( I got it like that) what loft would you recommend for 37in tires which is what I’m planning.
Fix It Now I just installed the RC 4" with the 1.25 Boomerang shackles and a 2" body lift along with the steering brace, Rugged Ridge HD Tie Rod Kit on my 93 yj it has the beefed up 4 banger lol currently sitting on 31's it also has 410 gears but down the road plan on changing to 488 w/ a ford 8.8 I'm not sure if 33 or 35' on steel or alloy is the way to go to help with the power until the regear any thoughts?
Hey do you think i could run the same size tires and suspension with a 1in body lift? Not sure how much the body lift will come into play with the rub. Nice yj that thing is clean
Not a lift question but did you install those mirrors yourself and if you did, are the holes on the upper part of the door left from the factory smaller mirrors?
Not a fan of body lifts myself,I got 6" lift 35 tires, but that is a really nice jeep though I like it.,I have 1987 yj getting a 350 sbc right now,lol if I put body lift on mine it would not make it into my garage,it barley fits now
Here’s my question- would your tires rub if you did not have the body lift. My yj has the same size lift and the flat fender flares pretty much the same as you.
Looks like you've been putting more money into it. I personally liked it when it was lower and on the bf all terrains. Just looks cleaner to me. I ditched my rough country lift in favor of old man emu.
Yeh. I like both looks. Problem was... flat inverted springs. I also had to replace the tires so, same price to lift it up a bit and a little extra for the 35’s just made more sense long-term. I do like the higher ride height too. All good brother. Jeep is a Jeep. It’s meant to love no matter the mods 👍
I'm researching 2.5" lift kits for my 95 yj. I'm leaning towards OME also n have read others saying same thing you have...they've replaced the RoughCountry. I don't want to waste time n money just to be disappointed.
You can adjust the steering limit bolts on the steering knuckles. Adjust them out until you tires don’t hit the leaf springs. Or get wheels with different backspacing or try spacers as a cheaper solution.
as much as I love the look of your jeep and as you have mentioned that you do not have 100% knowledge about what's been done to the jeep previously so let me tell you. The inside part from the front fender to the curve of the headlight has been cut and that's the reason you get a lock to lock steering no tension. I personally run 6-inch body lift and 4-inch spacers on my 35-inch tires and still am not able to get the turn angle properly. If anyone has suggestions let me know I do not wanna cut out a piece of the frame.
I don’t care about articulation. Why would I take a 25k jeep somewhere where I’d need maximum articulation? Everyone knows these things are lifted for looks. A smarter man would just get a talon or a razor and have twice the fun Offroad while keeping his DD running strong and not pissing away money on broken parts. Plus SXS and quads are funner Offroad. And if I really were to take a road car/truck Offroad it wouldn’t be a piece of shit bathtub on wheels, I’d use a real off-roader like a 4Runner or variant.
I have a 1992 yj 2.5L 4 cylinder with 37x13.50r17 on headlocks with 4.88 gears. On 3.5” lift kit.

Nice man. Yea, I restored mine 5 years back. All the progress vids are on my channel.
Mine is completely rusty free. But I live in Oregon.
I have a ‘87 YJ that I bought with a rough country 4 /2” lift with a 1 3/4” body lift and 35” tires. Going to 4.56 gears and will probably drop to 33” tires
33 the way to go with a max of 4”. If I could go back in time that’s what I would have done
To be perfectly objective, a body lift and tires would be the best lift you could do to preserve suspension geometry. Also, a body lift has a better center of gravity than a full lift.

that's a nice unit, like the stance YJ has, am on 33's with suspension lift just checking out the options - thanks for sharing
yeah 33s with 4 in suspension lift here. looking at 35 in wheels but don't want to have to lift the body.
You’ll need gears too

Well this one has both. A little of both worlds. Think of it as a Bi Jeep

nice i love yj's but to stay away from the 3 inch body you should it put a 4.5 suspension lift and just put a 1 inch body lift
Thanks man. Just curious. Why avoid the 3” can you provide some insight?
@@Archifx I've seen the larger body lifts like that actually fold under pressure and it's not a pretty sight
Love it! 👍🏽 Thats a beautiful stance.
Do you know if this wheels will fit my Jeep CJ? Thanks👍🏽
I think CJ part numbers are different
@@Archifx Ok, thanks for answering 👍🏽
Hate to ask considering this has nothing to do with lifts but I was wondering what kind of soft top you got on there?
Sure. Bestop Supertop Here’s the video on it: th-cam.com/video/c2YBd8qT9UU/w-d-xo.html
Those black grey plastics, fender flares do you know where I canbuy them, in California ? Thank you
If I knew I’d tell ya. I have no idea. Came with the Jeep. So many folks want to know.

What engine is in your Jeep ?
How does the Engine react to the Tires ? Any Strain on engine ?
Also I like the tires poking some what chrome wheels would be good for that I'd like to stay away from spacers
What is the width on the wheels? Looks to be 10 inches wide???
Ithink 12.5"
Did you mess with the diff and gearing or is that all. Stock... How's the ride

Yeah man... I get it. The 4.0 pretty easy to tinker with as well 😜

Nice build! Stick with the 33’s in my opinion. You will need to rehear if you step to 35’s
Whats is the minimum lift to fit 35 inch wheel on a YJ ??
5" would be about the minimum. Lots of guys run 4" suspension and 1" body lift with 35s
Nice Jeep!
Beautiful yj !
Thanks brother
On the Quadratec catalog it recommends a 6 inch lift for a YJ to run 35 inch tires.
Mud tires on road in the rain suck so bad. Found out the hard way lol.
Hey do you think i could run the same size tires and suspension with a 1in body lift? Not sure how much the body lift will come into play with the rub. Nice yj that thing is clean
No, you need to get it up in the air. And you’ll need to re gear the rear if you do what I did.
Hey do you know the offset or back spacing on your wheels. Thankyou.for all the help you can give.
0 I believe

I didn't notice a transfer case drop, do you have any whining or vibrations from the rear end? Also, going 65 - 75MPH, what is your RPM?
No. No whining but 5th is gone. Needed to be geared up.
Did you extend the brakelines?
No. Didn’t need to with this lift
@@Archifx no issues with the fan rubbing once you raise the body or the transfer case lining up ?
Fender flairs defiantly trimmed. Big body lifts?? I’d avoid. Nice looking Jeep though. There’s so many options you can do with these Jeep’s.
What american racing wheel is it? It looks different than the AR172 Baja wheel
Take a look at the Pro Comp 69 or ION Alloy 171s. They are good quality and less expensive than the AR wheels.

No rub on mine. Hmm. I do also have that body lift tho.

that's going to be a high geared bitch if you have 3.07 gears!
