I traveled a lot in the 80s and 90s to some pretty sketchy places in Africa and Central America.
The very first rule of such travel is: “Do NOT expect the US Embassy to help you.”
Same goes for Chicago, or San Francisco.

@John in Alaska I'm not a specialist in this but, Would Sudanese rebels be that much of a threat to the US military in evacuating Citizens out of there?
I never heard dual citizenship mentioned in relationship to evacuations before, and never heard about it when the same citizens joined the Marines to surve their country.
I also don't remember hearing about NOT evacuating our citizens from any other area of conflict because the department of state had issued a travel warning.
p.s. those US citizens in Sudan have been our front line of defense against a Russian Red Belt across Africa since the 60's.

@@5star_BigChief631 There's no honor in getting yourself taken hostage, or worse, during this Sudanese civil war. Even if there was a will to stay and defend the embassy against a siege, it would be horrible optics to have footage of embassy guards shooting anyone in Sudan. It's just not worth it.
It actually takes strength and discipline to hold in your ego, admit when a situation is lost, and retreat when you personally might prefer to fight. If not for yourself then for your family, and I'd guess most of the embassy staff here have families that want them home now.

The world has fundamentally changed many times over in the last 100 years. Shooting desperate and angry civilians is not a show of strength for any military today, but especially not for the US military which is more beholden to public opinion. The only strategically viable option for the US in Sudan is to keep their soldiers and civilian contractors safe. It takes strength and courage to accept that fact. I'm sorry if you're too petulant and weak minded to accept that.
