I rarely hear doctors who promote the whole food plant based diet suggest the easiest way in the world to get patients and others to regularly eat beans. And that is to take the hassle out of cooking beans, which is, drum roll.....canned beans. I eat a cup daily of canned no sodium organic black beans, heated for couple minutes in microwave, combined most often with alternating red and sweet potatoes, also microwaved. I top with favorite seasonings and sauce, never gets old. I couldn't do this long term if I had to cook beans on stove and bake potatoes in oven. But excellent top 10 benefits list Dr. Marbas.

I eat canned beans but when I have access to an instant pot I will use it. The beans for me are very good. Canned beans seem important ot have around: they honestly for me don't even need to be cooked, but I mix them with whole wheat pasta and cayenne pepper. I recommend it!

Over the past 20 years 4 doctors told me my cholesterol is genetic and nothing I can do without meds. 270 to 360 and triglycerides 460 to 650.
I went plant based a year ago now cholesterol 115 and triglycerides 125 no meds . No junk food just whole food plant based.

I like your videos, thanks. I started whole food-plant based 7 years ago in the form of Mcdougall diet, to fix high cholesterol and it dropped like 100 points. I didn't get cholesterol tested for a year and it might have been fixed much quicker. It has been fine since then except for briefly it went to 176 and LDL to about 123, and I think it might have been eating too much peanut butter which I decided to just stop, and it dropped.
My weight has been healthy BMI since then. Further, my blood pressure dropped and stayed down, but is slightly high. I am exercising. progressively improving on a regular basis, also. Last, I had high resting heart rate. It's been 70-75 bpm all this time now.
Also, I came off blood pressure medication (with doctor approval): Atenolol, and it also controlled high resting heart rate, which is normal without the medication. I won't need statins ever as long as I stay on this drug.

My total cholesterol dropped from 271 to 173 in 3 weeks on a wfpd (no oil) diet. My LDL went from 187 to 122, and I'm excited to see how low it will go because I'm not stopping. It turns out to be easier than I expected to eat wfpb. Thank you for being a great resource.

My Mom and I have been on a plant based diet for the last year. My Mom has Lewy Body Dementia and I need to lose about 200 pounds. So eating a Plant Based Diet is what has given us both so many more options to eat and tastier as well. After finally giving up butter and oils, both of our collateral has dropped about 50 pts each! Yes, no more canned soups, just fresh veggies, beans and potatoes right in the crock pot in the early morning, it is ready by lunch. Thank you for your informative and heart felt videos. ❤

I have been WFPB for 8 years and developed high cholesterol. My cholesterol became a problem whe I went into menopause. I finally went on a statin but I am not happy about it.

Hi! I have been participating in a Whole Foods plant based diet/lifestyle medicine program for the last 10 weeks and have 2 more to go! I’m excited to see the changes in my blood work because they do a before and after and I had a poor lipid panel prior to starting!
I have a broad question though-I had my baby 9 months ago and I got gestational diabetes with her. I was able to stay diet controlled but my doctor advised “as many veggies and meat as I want” and that worked but I’m curious what a plant based doctor would tell me? Hoping I don’t have gestational diabetes in future pregnancies but curious what the general recommendations are. Carb counting?
Thanks for all your videos and passionate education!!

Hi, if you continue with the WFPB diet and avoid animal products and ultra processed foods it is unlikely you will have gestational diabetes in the future. You can always test your blood sugars with a CGM. I prescribe those to any patients who would like one and educate them on the use. I am also about to launch a deep dive course with group coaching this week, Master your Metabolism and Lose Weight. It is a compilation of all my years of working with patients.
