What makes it even better is the mixed reactions. The prisoners around him simply formed a circle to start praying while the guards looked completely panicked about their impeding demise. Heath Ledger's death was a result of acute intoxication caused by a combination of prescription medications. The autopsy revealed that he had taken a mixture of painkillers, anti-anxiety medications, and sleeping pills. Some of the specific drugs found in his system included oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine. It's important to note that Ledger had been struggling with insomnia and anxiety, and the medications he took were prescribed to him by different doctors. The combination of these drugs, along with potential issues related to their dosage and interactions, ultimately led to his accidental overdose.
The BatMan realizes at this moment that like himself the Joker's philosophy will never chnage. No matter how many things about society they try to teach one another both of them will always remain stubborn holding onto they're beliefs destined battle forever.

@@devontemoericke493 If you are a TRUE FOLLOWER of the Batman storyline, then you would know the Joker's motive; to expose the Batman as a hypocrite. The Batman's motive was to capture Gotham's most LETHAL CRIMINALS, WITHOUT killing them. "A Death in a Family" was about how the Joker had finally gotten frustrated, killed the second Robin and crippled Batgirl, in a mad attempt to push Batman over the edge, in saying that it was all HIS FAULT, for not killing him, in the first place.
That one prisoner who threw the detonator out the window is amazing. It shows that defeating the Joker is not a physical fight, but a mental, physiological one.
I've invented a story for the man going forward: When the Leage of Shadows busted him out in Dark Knight Rises, he has his gang protecting the families in his territory. Whenever someone asked why, he said he wasn't playing the Joker's game anymore and he certainly wasn't playing Bane's. He actually helped Gorden and his people find the bomb in time to place the jammer and, on Gordon's recommendation, he was given a parole. He was present when they unveiled Batman's statue, and someone next to him heard him whispering "You gave me a second chance, Batman. I'll try not to screw it up."

I don't think it was disgust. Inmates in general put up a mean face all the time for reputation/survival reasons, it's as simple as that. And if the officer had wanted to blow up the other boat he would've. The reason he handed the detonator to the inmate was to transfer the power of deciding whether the other boat blows up to someone else. That doesn't necessarily mean he intended to blow up the other boat, it could just mean he didn't want to take part in the decision.
@@ultimate0706 Is it really that big of a difference when the officer was quite clearly convinced that the inmate WAS going to blow up the other boat anyways? Plus, the inmate said "you can tell them I took it by force", implying that no, he couldn't do it himself but was okay with blaming the inmate because that mean he wouldn't be seen as responsible for the murder. Hell, he even looked surprised when the detonator was thrown out the window. When Batman secures Joker upside down, the camera slowly rotates to make Joker right side up for us, but has Gotham in background upside down. It puts us in Joker's point of view. He's sees the world upside down in real life
my 2 cents, i think the joker saw the world as it is. its a two faced world, with the right technique anyone can be exposed as crooked. we are the ones with the distorted view of an inherently good world.
@@susane8 Practicality is a blessing. If you rationalise what we consider good and evil, you see that good has benefits regardless of ideology. And evil is simply unsustainable. And imo, the distortion of an otherwise functioning mind can actually come from the desire to be good. It's hardbaked into how we function. So when someone does something wrong they are forced to deal with the contradiction by twisting the definition of 'good'. A liar thinks that everyone's as deceitful as he is. The Joker thinks he's on a crusade to reveal the 'truth' of the world. Two-Face thinks he's being truly just and unbiased by basing his actions on random chance. At least that's my take on it.
@@anxiousearth680 Your comment made me realize that TwoFace bases his 50/50 rationale on how Batman saved him. Batman had to chose Harvey or his girlfriend to save which is basically a coin toss. Big brain plays everywhere in this movie.

This movie is approaching it’s 20th anniversary and it’s still as fresh as it was when it came out. This really is the best superhero movie of all time
This shows how crazy this joker really is. He’s laughing when batman threw him down because he knew that he won since he made batman break his only code (kill people), but when batman saved him he stopped laughing. He’s not afraid to die, his only mission in life is to make batman break his only code no matter the cost.
I think it’s a little less about breaking Batman, and more about in his own words introducing a little anarchy and creating chaos. As he said, he’s an agent of chaos
Batman does not kill people. But Bruce Waine does, every day, as one of the richest capitalists, making his workers lose their health, do crimes, etc. Bruce is the main source of criminality in Gotham, he is the creator of Joker. That is what the film about. Not Joker's wishes and fantasies.
I love Batman's reaction at 3:44. The utter annoyance of talking to someone who will never under any circumstance admit they're wrong. He doesn't even get to savor the "I told you so" because Joker just ignores it entirely without skipping a beat.
He's also recoiling from taking an absolute pounding before he got the upper hand here. He got attacked by SWAT, dogs, and on top of that got hit by a steel pipe lol
“You didn’t think I’d risk losing the battle for Gotham’s soul in a fistfight with YOU?” The disdain in his voice, like he’s embarrassed at Bruce’s lack of imagination.
I dunno about disdain. I think he's just clever. Like, he's smart enough to know that nobody can beat Batman in a straight-up fistfight. That's the mistake others make. Joaquin Phoenix may not replace Heath Ledger’s Joker, but I’m sure Heath would be proud to know Phoenix made an amazing performance as Joker/Arthur Fleck in the new movie. R.I.P. Heath Ledger.
To be honest, I don't even compare Heath and Joaquin because they really aren't even playing the same character. Joaquin is playing Arthur Fleck who only becomes Joker in the last few moments of the movie, whereas Ledger is playing Joker. So its sort of like comparing two people playing different characters whereas you can make a more direct comparison with Nicholson and Leto since they are also playing the Joker.
2:50 The visual storytelling is masterful here and no one even notices it. Joker is hanging upside down, because we and Batman believe he's been defeated, but when he monologues, the camera begins to rotate to make it look like Joker is upright, above Gotham, meaning that he's actually on top, his plan has won, and Batman doesn't even know it. Pretty masterful stuff
I actually see it as the direction of both Joker and Batman also depicts how they see Gotham. Both Joker and Batman are right side up, however in the distance behind Joker, Gotham is upside down. Batman on the other hand sees Gotham as he tells Joker, one that is ready/willing to hope. It isn’t so much to me of who’s on top, but how they perceive Gotham. This to me is about their “point of view”.
I always get chocked up watching this scene. Right at the part where Joker says “I think you and I, are destined to do this forever.” 3:20 And it’s not because Ledger died too soon. It’s because after all the incarnations of Batman, whether it’s the old Adam West 1960’s Batman show or the Tim Burton, Jack Nicholson Joker. Or the many episodes of the Mark Hamill Batman animated series and even the Batman Arkham video game franchise. No matter what version of Batman you grew up with, Batman and Joker have always acted like this dysfunctional married couple. And they literally will continue to do the same thing forever. Joker gets caught and Batman locks him away, and then Joker breaks out of jail and the whole process repeats. And we as Batman fans will watch every incarnation of this, and love every second of this. I am forever grateful that I got to witness all these variations of Batman in my lifetime!
Not only that, but there is the archetypal significance at work. The unstoppable force, the immovable object, the two holy opposites which will act upon the world forever.
It's almost like in that near-death fall, he had some moment of clarity where he may have seen those incarnations briefly, knowing for a fact they ARE destined to do this forever. Maybe not the literal two of them, but as long as there is a Batman, there will *ALWAYS* be a Joker.

The look of disgust sells it. Even if it wasnt said, everyone knew the intention of the officer was to kill everyone on the other boat. And now everyone knows the real him and he has to live with it.
The visual storytelling is masterful here and no one even notices it.
Right at the part where Joker says “I think you and I, are destined to do this forever.” 3:20
And it’s not because Ledger died too soon.
Watch titans season 3
think you just described the inspiration for the batman lego movie
I wouldn't mind watching the Flashpoint Paradox version with Bruce's dad being Batman and Bruce's mom being Joker
