All the luck to Caden on the studebaker. There has been many documented cases of children talking about past lives and memories that aren’t theirs. But usually by age 5 or 6 that changes. I guess you can say we became conscious or self aware around that age. So seeing someone who’s an adult who can remember is crazy interesting, I’m glad that he can also appreciate vintage things like this car and all his personal belongings. Things so old that are getting a second life much like himself.

Absolutely this car can be restored. Its going to need everything however. Most likely the floors are bad, but here are reproduction panels made for this car that are available.
I restored one (a few years newer than this) that was in much worse condition. It took me about 11yrs between actually doing the work on weekends, etc and parts hunting trips and so on.
EDIT: hopefully when you got all the mouse stuff out you cleaned the storage compartments in the rear seat armrests. Those wide armrest lift open and there is a storage compartment under each. I have heard stories of back in the day, younger folks would hide their beer back there.

Really beautiful vintage car. Thank you guys for doing all you could to make it shine. Someone should set up a gofundme or something for Caden to get it mechanically sound and enable him to drive it. I think it would be great to see a Studebaker driving around the streets of my town.
Caden would make a good curator for a 1940’s museum. We have a family of collectors in our county that did that with their vintage items, and made it a nice place for school kids to visit, complete with a picnic area for chatting when you were finished. There is room in our society for people like Caden. I would venture to say many have had dreams or experiences similar to his, but in American society we don’t talk about it because we are too focused on staying young and having or selling the latest fad. Interest in past lives or human consciousness beyond those living right now is often viewed as crazy or mental. I think that’s just shallow-minded culture talking. In a different part of the world, he would be better respected.
With detailed information like Caden has remembered, it should not be difficult to search old public records to corroborate his story. At any rate he seems like a nice kid with cool interests. I wouldn’t mind having him for a neighbor.

I'd absolutely restore that car!!! Do much history to it and the way the paint came back to life, gives you an idea of its potential. Well worth the effort. As for Caden, as a kid i used to have so many deja vu moments. I'd go to a restaurant, store or whatever and everything looked so familiar.........but i know I had never been there before as I was no more than 10 years old. I love the nostalgia he has in his home............although, all the vintage things he has and then a flat screen hanging on the wall.......lol. I really like seeing you all bring vintage cars back to life. When I was a kid, seatbelts in cars was just an option until about 1964. Back then, cars had horn rims mounted on the steering wheel, the dashboards were made of metal, plus the automatic transmission and air conditioning in cars was a brand new thing. For those who are wondering why many of these historic relics sometimes turn out rusty is because back then, they didn't rust proof the car at the factory when they were building them.

Not saying you are wrong, am just relating what I found and why I think it's a '49.

Kaden needs to write a book, a chronicle of Donny's life. As far as the Stude is concerned, a complete restoration would be cost prohibitive, but a "sympathetic" resto would be ok. Meaning, get the mechanicals back in shape. Then it would be fine as a weekend fun car, but definitely not a daily driver as this car doesn't have any safety features. This thing in a sea of 6000 pound SUVs sounds like an accident waiting to happen. A better option would be a car from the mid-70s, something Donny would have bought in his 50s, had he lived. Once again, great work from the WD team!

This car deserves a full restoration, from what I saw most of the body panels are in good shape, a lot better than cars I see on other channels. I see Americans trying to fix VW beetles that in Europe would just be scrapped, so bad are they. So finding an American classic like this in relative good shape is quite something.
As for the young lad living in the 40s, well, if that makes him happy, good on him. There are stories around about people remembering past lives, who knows.
I had a strange dream once, it had no bearing on anything I had seen on TV or had read at that moment, but it was so real I have never forgotten it. It was about 20 years ago, I dreamed I was standing on a grassy hillslope between other men, a shield wall. I wore a green tunic and had dark brown medieval shoes, I had a long shield that tapered towards the end and a lance. I remember we suddenly rushed down the hill, I dared not look where I was going, could only see my feet running, my shield and lance pointing forward. Next thing I am at the center of a battle, I don't know what to do. I look in front and see a knight on horseback being pulled offf his horse by a group of men, and then nothing, I woke up.
So I won't knock someone who makes certain claims about things I know nothing about.

All I can say is Caden is one unique person. I respect his choice to live in the past, but a former life, well, I'll let it at that. Good luck Caden I hope you get the old girl back on the road and save her from the scrap yard.

I’d say there have been multiple creatures who’s lives have ended inside that car; but the most common animals to seek shelter inside cars are mice, rats, raccoons, and squirrels. Most likely the “parts” in the car were from them. Very glad to see such a young guy take such an active interests in antiques and life from the first half of the 20th century! Collect’em while they are still around and fairly affordable! As far as reincarnation and past lives: who am I to say? This Studebaker is a relatively rare and desirable Starlight coupe and most definitely worthy of restoration or, at least, preservation!

I am glad to learn that this car will be running down the road again one day. It is piece of our country's great automotive heritage and it will still be admired by generations to come! There are a lot of folks today that never heard the name Studebaker as this car manufacturer is long gone! And most important, this car is so complete with almost nothing missing, it mainly needs the engine to be overhauled and a good upholstery shop for the interior to be refurbished. Also, the dashboard and the instruments can be brought back to life again; there are specialized shops widely available. These tasks are an easy fix despite it could be costly but it definitely worth the money!

I am new to your channel but I found this fellow quite interesting. My parents had a Studebaker so of course I am a fan of the restoration if it's possible. I think I was more intrigued by his story. I'm a huge history and genealogy fellow. It would be interesting to hear more about his story. I'm in Ohio as well so I surmised that he is as well as well as the 'WD Detailing' team. Thanks for sharing.

Providing the frame hasn't rusted through it's definitely worth restoring. However, it's going to take some cash. Full engine and transmission rebuilds. He should probably upgrade the brakes from the 1948 system. That interior will need to be a complete custom redo. It has virtually none of the modern safety features. I'd venture to make it fully roadworthy as a daily driver in 2023 he's looking at 20K minimum. 30K easy.

I know you folks get fixated on economic values when determining if a car is a parts car or should be restored, rather than looking at the whole picture of the equation but,....so to take your approach, yes, Raymond Lowey Studebaker Coupes of 1948 thru 1952 are EXTREMELY desirable and sought after. I don't think the determination is an economic issue, clearly the kid wants to drive it, so it should be restored, particularly after being saved.

  • @faerieSAALE
    @faerieSAALE ปีที่แล้ว +2

To fully restore that Studebaker it will cost $ 50 to 60+ THOUSAND Dollars minimum. All of the exterior trim brightwork is pitted horribly and there are no re-pop replacements available. That would throw a giant monkey wrench into the restoration... they might be able to be re-chromed, but, it is going to depend on how badly they are pitted and corroded. The cost to do it will be astronomical. It will need a complete interior...saving nothing, and beginning from bare-bones floor to ceiling, front to the back of the trunk. Getting rid of the lingering animal pee smell will be a challenge. All of the wirings will need replacing, and all of the dash gauges will need replacing. All lighting will need refurbishing or replacing too, and those six-volt bulbs are not easy to come by. This car would require a Body off Frame, and rotisserie-style restoration to do it right.
