I bought a love live deck as we ended up with some adventure time trial decks at work and I wanted to teach customers to play so this video is extremely useful!
Its next to impossible with a niche game like this, especially in a country which is not accustomed to playing these sorts of games and is hard to find them selling it locally
Thanks for the tutorial, I bought 2 starter decks and read the rule sheets, but it was still kind of confusing, but this guide helped cleared up some of the confusion. I can't wait to start playing. Thanks again.
lol, if u already learn ow to play vanguard, playing buddyfight and weiss schawrzwill be easy, bcuz theyre almost the same, but ifu play yu gi oh first, its hard to play vanguard and, buddyfight and weiss shcarwz
You guys are the best! Love your voice as well. Clearest and best tutorial out there. Lovely format for the presentation as well. Subbed! Please to more tutorials for new players !
Got my first decks! I chose Log Horizon and AOT :) also, thx for the tutorial, it really helped, though I did play a beginner match at the shop that I went to.
Wow I play yugioh , magic , vanguard , and buddyfight but this game is hard !!!! I'm getting a little exited about getting my 1st trail deck now !!!! a
which of these games do you think is the best to play? i played magic and yugioh and i am kinda disappointed in both and i am thinking about starting Vanguard now
Dimiitri Vanguard is a good choice. Also if you want to watch the show or learn how to play, The reboot is free on vanguard’s channel Dubbed and subbed
@@RoseForTheApocalypse try keyforge, it's a much more balanced game than yugioh and magic because all players only get to buy a random preconstructed deck that can't be separated from its own set and the deck you buy is the only available card combination in the whole world.
@@RoseForTheApocalypse if ur young buddyfight is a good choice most kids play buddyfight but wouldn’t recommend since the show is ending soon, vanguard is more popular among the teens
Short of actually getting someone to sit with you and play you through the game, this has to be, hands down, the easiest tutorial to understand - the "air steward flight safety" tone of speech made the whole thing really clear and simple, when other tutorials can be too soft or too full of jargon which newbies wouldn't understand. For the first time in a week I'm starting to feel as if I may just understand this game! Now to find someone to polish off the understanding and get some practice!
Brain...melting. I just bought a deck today so I can play at a con next weekend, looks like I have to watch this multiple times to get the hang of this
I would love to have an updated version with the new trigger icons, so I can share it with the people I want to teach the game to, to make it all easier
Thanks for this video. Just picked up the game today on the recommendation of a few people & found the in pack instructions a tad confusing. Your video helped clarify things for me. I subscribed using my alt account. Keep up the great work.
I've watched this video twice and am finally starting to get it. Now I just need someone to actualy play with. Thanks so much for this video and for this channel!
We did mention the climax colour restriction yo, though it was only in passing when talking about general colour at 12:52 ~ And in terms of event and character counters and the colour restriction differences there, it just didn't seem necessary in a video aimed at people who'd never played the game before.
Recommended for first time players. You'll get a good grasp of BASIC rules of the game by listening to this. I would add two things to this tutorial: 1) A Climax follows color restriction meaning that you need a card of the same color either in your clock and/or in your level zone to play it during your climax phase. 2) Event backup can ALSO be played during your main turn unlike the character card backup shown here but the event follows color restriction while the character backup doesn't.
Good video for refresher when you only get to play once a year or so, and as a companion to actually reading the rulebook to see how it works in action. I did have to set speed at .75 to follow with less anxiety, though.
While reading the rules me and my buddy almost got the game right, this helped us figure out what we did wrong Thanks for the video We only got into this game thanks to the characters on the cards, then we both noticed they had numbers and looked up the rules and just went from there
Just a fun fact, you can tell color requirement also by the color ring around the level number. Level 0 are grey ring, which means no color requirement. Events and climax have a color requirement.
As someone new to the game and trying to understand it through this video, I feel it all flew over my head. But I have to say I do know more now than I did going in. Good video.
+RegentPie Thanks. If you can find a partner and play through a couple of turns, it should start to become a lot clearer. It can be a lot to take in without a game in front of you '^^
How good is the balance of this game would you say? I think I read that decks are limited based on series, so how does that balance out from one deck to another?
+RegentPie Sets these days get a few similar abilities and then some unique ones specifically for them. This helps towards making the game well balanced, as everyone has a handful of common effects. Each set's unique feel keeps deck building fresh and interesting too. Much like other card games, the strength of an effect influences the power of a card, so a series doesn't spin out of control. The rare time that does happen, and it happens to everyone, it is rectified fairly quickly. Also, these effects or cards never make it to the English game, an example of this is Kantai missing cards or Nisekoi having different effects. This gives the English version an added layer of of protection. On top of the power balance, the mechanics of the game help decks from different series interact well with one another. Finally, once you get into the more advanced play you realise that a lot of the parts you believed to be random can, to an extent, be controlled. Sure, some games you will just run through a lot of climaxes early on, but through careful play and maximising your stock you can dig yourself out sticky situations. Sorry for the wall of text, I tend to get a bit carried away when talking about this game '^^
Haha, don't worry, I like reading informative posts so I appreciate what you've written. I plan on buying a rather expensive trial deck soon, so knowing how the game is set up before then helps a lot. I used to play YGO and I feel it's lost a lot of its balance since I started. Maybe I just haven't changed with the time? Anyways, I look forward to trying this game out and playing with people. Shame there isn't a console game though, at least not from what I've seen. I, and probably others, learn tcgs easier through those. Thank you again for your help.
+RegentPie No problem, glad you found it useful. One last note, there was a PSP game released a few years ago but only in Japan. It came in a Weiss and Schwarz variant. They both contained all the same cards, but the version depended on which side it was easier to collect cards for. If you can get through the Japanese it is good for getting used to the rules. It is just a shame that the AI isn't the best '^^
This is awesome that you took the time to make this. Thank you so much. I really want to get into the game but I don't have any friends that would be into that kind of thing. Hopefully I can find someone who likes anime and card games as much as me! Like, favourited and subscribed :)
Thank-you for this video! you have NO idea how hard it was to learn the rules after me and my friend bought a trial deck to try out the game XD It didn't go all too well lol.
Great Job on this Tutorial I already know how to play the game but I wanted to see what a tutorial for this game would look like I think you guys did a perfect video for it
I don't know how I got my head around playing similar games such as Magic and YGO years ago, but after seeing those Legend of The Galactic Heroes cards at 6:24 it is now my duty to learn this one day.
I have a question for you guys regarding cards that don't seem to make any sense. I recently picked up the Kancolle set in english and one of the cards "Kaga" had the following ability: Auto [Pay 3], target enemy character gains +4 soul. I may be missing something, or it could be a bad translation, but I don't see ANY strategic value in doing this. First off, you loose three cards from your deck, and give your opponent an insane bonus with no "make up effect" to your benefit. I've noticed a lot of cards like this in other sets as well and it just confuses me as to why playing such an ability could ever be considered a good idea?
You did a pretty good job explaining that. It looks very different from CCGs I've played; I may buy a structure deck and encourage a friend to do the same so we can play.
Hello, I have a question. I have recently been getting interested in this and naturally searched up my favorite series. In the Symphogear Trial Deck, the cards "Hibiki, Beats of Awakening" and "Tsubasa, Way of the Sentinel" have an auto Encore ability. When the requirements are met (in the Encore phase), do you have to activate this specific ability? Both cards(translated from HotC), say [A] ENCORE [Discard a Character card from hand to the Waiting Room]. When in Encore step, do I have to discard? Or can I Encore normally or not Encore at all? Also, with auto abilities with costs, what is used as the cost?
During the Encore Step you choose whether or not to save your characters one at a time. If a character has an additional encore effect then you have two ways to save them; either by discarding (as per your example) or paying the three stock. You don't have to do both (game mechanics-wise you can, but it is completely unnecessary). If you are referring to the three to pay when encoring normally then it comes from stock. Any number in a circle always refers to the number of stock required (such as (3) ).
best tutorial I've watched I actually get the game now =D can't wait to play where do you guys get your cards? here in US it's hard to get a hold of em
I am glad you found the video useful, welcome to Weiss Schwarz ^^ When I lived in the UK I used to get all my cards from either AmiAmi, HobbySearch, Yuyutei or a local game shop. Importing isn't too bad, so I suggest you give those places a look. There are also some popular American based websites like HammerGirl that you may find useful, but sadly I am not too knowledgeable on those '^^ If you have any other questions just let me know.
Yay Madoka won! lol For real tho it's so cool that you made this longer tutorial! The others I have found are so short and fast that it's hard to retain much and this really helped alot! _Also big fan of Madoka and am glad seeing it in this older video, the set seems to be mostly irrelevant now so it's good to see it in a popular video :3 )
This is the best tutorial video for Weiss Schwarts I have seen on TH-cam. This is the first card game I am trying and there are a lot of videos that compare this game to other preexisting card games. That doesn't really help me since I haven't played other card games before. So, first, thank you for not doing that. I guess my only gripe is that you talk so quickly! I've watched this video repeatedly and I was wondering if you could do another video but take it a little slower. I would love to see you run through a game and just explain what is happening as you go. I'm really new to all of this but I want to start playing soon, so thanks for this amazing video as it is helping me, and if you decide to do another tutorial, thanks even more. ☆ ~('▽^人). Side question, is there a maximum number of card you can have in a deck? Ok, Thanks!
just got into this game and thanks to this video i just learned me and my friends have been using the Memory wrong. We thought every time you level up all the clocked cards go to memory. As this video shows they don't. Only cards that specifically state "go to memory" go there all others go to waiting room. Well that changes things.
Im noticing how he placed a green and not a yellow. Also for people who still dont understand ill hopfully be doing a video on this in deep deep details.
Very nice tutorial! I tried the game out and realized how much I despise the climax cards cancelling damage. It really killed it for me. My group of friends and I made a house rule that makes climax cards cut the damage received in half, rounded down. At least the attacking player can get at least a small sense of accomplishment at that point.
Hayse1q1 +2 soul climaxes sound OP with those house rules lol The climax-cancel mechanic just gives players a much higher incentive to play more strategically imo. You will want to control the location of each of your cards throughout the game. For example, you may choose to use brainstorm abilities to pay out triggered climaxes and mill out your deck to force out an early refresh that will have a higher CX-to-nonCX ratio, allowing you to have an increased probability of cancelling damage. Also, this is by no means unfair seeing that both players are capable of doing this. Those who do not "compress" their deck tend to lose much more often than those who do.
WhtRoseDuelist Well Climax cards are OP as they are, completely negating damage was too much as it was very frustrating and not fun for me and my friends when 7 damage that was supposed to be dealth get brought to 2 damage, over and over and over. And the other player gets a lucky streak and never has his opponent ever draw a climax for his/her damage stemp. It's especially disheartening when the player plays the climax card for a big play and it's all for nothing due to repetetive climax draws. It's our house rule, and it's how we play. This way the player who would play a climax card that gives extra souls can still get SOME reward from the big play, but still negates the single soul damage completely.
Very nice tutorial! I still have a question though: If you clock a climax card during the clock phase, does it remain on the clock as damage or is it immediately discarded to the waiting room?
Mappa Douji Yes, it does remain as 'damage'. Though placing a card into the clock during the clock phase (and abilities with text that reads "put [card name] into clock") is not technically considered 'taking damage', so even if the card(s) put into clock is a climax, the 'damage' is not cancelled.
Got two question In the battle phase If i attack my opponent and we calculate the power of both cards and then his cards is defeated does he take damage or is the card is just flipped and he take no damage? The second question is similar to the first one but in the case both cards is tied in power, does he take damage or is both cards only flipped and no one take damage ? Great video by the way
Okay so I have been looking for a bit. And I still do not fully understand the memory. As in how cards go into memory. I just started and happened to get the fairytail trial deck. And a few cards mention the memory, (also got a few card packs and kinda mixed them up. So maybe it's those that actually mention memory) Only other thing is why are some of your back stage cards in the rest position? I assume that is to show you activated their skill for that turn?
***** An easy way to think of the memory is the "banished/exiled/removed-from-game" zone. If you are familiar with other TCG like Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. this should make it easier to understand. There are a few points to memory in Weiss Schwarz: 1) Abilities of cards may only be active while a certain number of cards are in your memory. Other similar abilities may require a particular card to be in memory for the ability to be active. 2) Cards in memory (just like cards on stage, in hand, in clock, in level, and in stock) are obviously not in waiting room, so they do not get re-shuffled back into the deck upon refresh. Thus, your refreshed deck will have a higher climax-to-nonclimax ratio (the deck will be more 'compressed'). The reason why characters in the back stage will ever be rested is because of abilities requiring a character(s) to be rested as a cost. A character does not have to be in the back stage to rest for these types of abilities. However, it is usually much more optimal to rest characters in the back stage, as opposed to those in the front stage, since you can then perform attacks with your other characters in the front stage that, presumably, have more power.
Many thanks for this. Was a bit fast at first but after a couple views everything made a hell of a lot more sense. I'll have a Log Horizon deck as my first deck so that should prove interesting having to read Japanese while learning at the same time :'D
Question. Your vid states you must have 8 climax cards, but the comprehensive rules say no more than 8. Is there any reason that 8 should be considered mandatory as opposed to, say 6 climax cards allowing for two more chars?
I just got a trial trial deck and thanks to this video and I was learn how to play this game very fast. The only question that I have is the color. What is color need to do? Is it effect the other cards when you are level up?
Second question I use the project diva f English deck and some of the cards when I procured them in the trail deck had no effect description ( I.e. Continuing dream "kagamine rin" or kagamine rin "future style ")
We refer to those as vanillas, they are just power and soul to punch with. You'll find a lot of those running around in Trial Decks and the Common slots of boosters. ^^
While I admit the directions seem a little intimidating to me at this initial phase of trying to research the game, I think I'm actually comprehending it pretty well, and it looks really fun. I'm surprised by how "fast" it sounds like rounds go, especially since there's so many phases that require pulling cards from your deck. I've always enjoyed playing Magic but never really bothered to get deep into it, but I admit the draw of being able to dork out to maximum levels and make decks of favorite characters intrigues me greatly.
This video was wayyyy better to understand then my friend expalined it, btw what is the best tier 1 deck out there? i recently bought the fairy tail trail deck and 11 booster packs , but i want one of the best decks out there to actaully be a good competive player, also i come from pokemon, is there any online sites to play this game like pokemon?
You missed out an important part. You’re only allow to play the same colour card once you’ve levelled up if you have it in the clock or the level. You can’t play a level 1 green card if you’ve only got a blue or red card in the clock and level. Is this the case? Am I allowed to play any coloured card once I’ve level up that’s the same level?
How exactly does the counter step work? When i receive a front attack i check to see if i have a counter card in my hand or on the field and chooce to play it?
If you guys are looking for more people to see Weiss Schwarz there is a TCG Community driven channel called The TCG Community. It is ran by TMS Wedge from The Mana Source, Kevin for DeriumsCCG, and MTG McQuaks. They are looking to make a hub for TCG games and would love to some Weiss Schwarz on it. love the channel from the vids I have seen.
I'd probably buy the cards just to look at them XD
Same I like the feeling of official artwork in my physical hand
Weeb
Exactly.
Amen dud xD
Same, collecting these is a great hobby in and of itself.
I bought a love live deck as we ended up with some adventure time trial decks at work and I wanted to teach customers to play so this video is extremely useful!
Thanks now all I need is to find another person to play with. Easier said than done.
Its next to impossible with a niche game like this, especially in a country which is not accustomed to playing these sorts of games and is hard to find them selling it locally
try comic shops, googleing for cards shops. etc etc.
indeed. I wonder whether there is any community in Scotland playing this game...
Thanks for the tutorial, I bought 2 starter decks and read the rule sheets, but it was still kind of confusing, but this guide helped cleared up some of the confusion. I can't wait to start playing. Thanks again.
I thought this game was complicated till i tried a game myself, was fairly easy to pick up
Really good tutorial guys, was easy to follow without cards to play along and made the game seem relatively simple.
this is the most complicated thing ever
try watching how to play yugioh :P
Gerald Tedja Yu-Gi-Oh is really easy in comparison XD
yea so is vanguard
lol, if u already learn ow to play vanguard, playing buddyfight and weiss schawrzwill be easy, bcuz theyre almost the same, but ifu play yu gi oh first, its hard to play vanguard and, buddyfight and weiss shcarwz
no its just the clocking and triggers are so diffrent and threre so many too
You guys are the best! Love your voice as well. Clearest and best tutorial out there. Lovely format for the presentation as well. Subbed! Please to more tutorials for new players !
This is great. Friends and I were looking for a new card game and I bought a deck but was overwhelmed. Y'all simplified it a lot, so kudos!
Glad to be of help. If you have any ruling questions feel free to ask ^^
This was an excellent introduction to this game and helped me out getting into this. Thank you!
Wow... thank you very much. The PlayBook was really hard to understand so this was really helpful to me.
This tutorial is WAY better than reading the instructions that come with the trial deck. Much appreciated :)
Loved the video guys! We have a local Weiss Schwarz group that's just now forming, and we pretty much all learned from this video.
Makes so much more sense now. Definitely cleared up a lot of the mistakes my friend and I have been making.
This is the best tutorial video I've seen for WS.
I'm gonna get into the game soon so this was great.
And btw what editing program do you guys use?
Sony Vegas & Photoshop.
Yep, this is the definitive Weiss tutorial video, have pointed several newbies to it.
Got my first decks! I chose Log Horizon and AOT :) also, thx for the tutorial, it really helped, though I did play a beginner match at the shop that I went to.
Brilliant video, really helped me out. Everything was covered. I mean EVERYTHING!

Just started out y'day and I'm glad I picked your tutorial vid over the rest. Now I'm ready to play practice games using my Bakemonogatari deck

This is one of the videos I watched to learn how to play.
Did he say Homuhomu for homura's name?
yep
It is all all about the Homuhomu baby~ ^^
2 trial decks have just been bought! Thanks for showing just how awesome this game is!

When I lived in the UK I used to get all my cards from either AmiAmi, HobbySearch, Yuyutei or a local game shop. Importing isn't too bad, so I suggest you give those places a look. There are also some popular American based websites like HammerGirl that you may find useful, but sadly I am not too knowledgeable on those '^^
If you have any other questions just let me know.
great thorough tut dude.
Yay Madoka won! lol
For real tho it's so cool that you made this longer tutorial! The others I have found are so short and fast that it's hard to retain much and this really helped alot!
_Also big fan of Madoka and am glad seeing it in this older video, the set seems to be mostly irrelevant now so it's good to see it in a popular video :3 )
This is an interesting game, i'm gonna be sure to pick up a trial deck at my local store, thanks for the tutorial
Ok, Thanks!
As a first card game, this is very tough to learn properly. I guess Cardfight Vanguard is much easier and more fun
Very informative and easy to keep up with!!!
Simplest one out there. Good job
This tutorial is amazing. Well done.
just got into this game and thanks to this video i just learned me and my friends have been using the Memory wrong. We thought every time you level up all the clocked cards go to memory. As this video shows they don't. Only cards that specifically state "go to memory" go there all others go to waiting room. Well that changes things.
Also, the amount of climax cards we run are UP TO 8.
We can run 0 of them if we like
This is actually the best way to learn weiss Schwarz
ahh so helpful, thanks guys! the rule book was a total bore and honestly made me kinda regret getting a trial deck XD
Very good tutorial! Although I'm still incredibly confused. Will have to watch again.
This game is complicated but I so interested to learn how to play. It looks like a lot of fun.
Hayse1q1 +2 soul climaxes sound OP with those house rules lol
The climax-cancel mechanic just gives players a much higher incentive to play more strategically imo.
WhtRoseDuelist
Well Climax cards are OP as they are, completely negating damage was too much as it was very frustrating and not fun for me and my friends when 7 damage that was supposed to be dealth get brought to 2 damage, over and over and over.
When you make a deck can you have cards from different sets in the deck? I don't think you can but I'm just making sure.
this guide was very helpful buy I have one problem. you never explained the "encore step". what happens at that step?
this is so hopeful. Thanks!
15:13 when he backs up why does he still take dmg? the girl had more atk than lancer
Got two question
In the battle phase
If i attack my opponent and we calculate the power of both cards and then his cards is defeated does he take damage or is the card is just flipped and he take no damage?
The second question is similar to the first one but in the case both cards is tied in power, does he take damage or is both cards only flipped and no one take damage ?
Great video by the way
Okay so I have been looking for a bit. And I still do not fully understand the memory. As in how cards go into memory. I just started and happened to get the fairytail trial deck. And a few cards mention the memory, (also got a few card packs and kinda mixed them up. So maybe it's those that actually mention memory)
Only other thing is why are some of your back stage cards in the rest position? I assume that is to show you activated their skill for that turn?
***** An easy way to think of the memory is the "banished/exiled/removed-from-game" zone. If you are familiar with other TCG like Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. this should make it easier to understand. There are a few points to memory in Weiss Schwarz:
1) Abilities of cards may only be active while a certain number of cards are in your memory.
Thanks 4 the help guys, im following you now :P
Thanks for watching. I will hopefully put out more content in the new year ^^
Jeez, I can play six card games at the moment(Yugioh, Pokemon, Vanguard, Magic, Kaijudo, Buddyfight) and none of them are this difficult...
I just got a trial trial deck and thanks to this video and I was learn how to play this game very fast. The only question that I have is the color. What is color need to do? Is it effect the other cards when you are level up?
This hand seems ridiculously fun.
Thanks for teaching me how to play this at comecon, you were awesome.
Play at 0.75x. Thank me later.
One of my all time favorite games.
this so cool i cant wait to try it
I notice that some cards have the circled number next to their abilities, is that the stock cost to activate the effect?
Can you link where you got the Puella Magi Madoka Magica cards?
How exactly does the counter step work? When i receive a front attack i check to see if i have a counter card in my hand or on the field and chooce to play it?
If you guys are looking for more people to see Weiss Schwarz there is a TCG Community driven channel called The TCG Community. It is ran by TMS Wedge from The Mana Source, Kevin for DeriumsCCG, and MTG McQuaks. They are looking to make a hub for TCG games and would love to some Weiss Schwarz on it. love the channel from the vids I have seen.
