- Today Microsoft released their new Surface Pro tablet with Windows 8 Professional. Even though the mall was closed due to the blizzard in New York City, we were able to pick one up... albeit it took a little longer than we expected. This video is our unboxing of the new Microsoft Surface Pro tablet.

ignore moshbros, that is the surface rt, the more portable and traditional tablet-like version of the surface. the surface pro runs the regular windows 8, and can run all the programms that a pc can. i'm sure you won't regret buying it if you do.

It's a tablet because of the form factor, but it has laptop internals just like all tablets have had since 2002 (until the iPad).
the surface pro (the one in the video) runs windows 8, and can run all the regular pc programms. the surface rt is the one you're talking about.

Yeah, I wanted to try something different though. The type cover is too boring, and most people tell me that doesn't fit my exciting personality. The touch cover takes some getting used to, but I'm finding it to work pretty well.

I'd say similar to the weight of two cell phones. It's very portable. Much better than most laptop power adapters.
USB on the charger should be the new industry standard.that is brilliant

When will the Haswell Surface Pro come out? I'm not even a Windows fan, but enjoyed the Surface Pro, just couldn't deal with the sub 4 hour battery life. Hoping to see the Rev 2 with Haswell and 7+ hours of battery life. This would make a great mobile/remote computer for my hobby.
Hi Adam, do you think the Windows Pro suits a college student for use like Powerpoint presentations , notes taking, etc. ? Or do you think there's a better recommendation ?
Yeah, it's not that he's a bad reviewer, he just seems shy or nervous or something.. He's a little awkward on camera but it can be easily fixed, all he need to do is just use more than one take,

Just get RT. Cheaper and is designed for basic office and ARM apps. Pro would be more for Adobe, open sourced desktop software. RT has office basics free for students.
if youre just in resolution, give a look to google nexus 10, it has 2560 x 1600 , and 300 dpi so much better than the ipad..
so the pen doesn't require a battery right? Because i know the sony vaio duo pens do. only because it's not wacom lol. just wanted to confirm, really interested in a surface pro 2

Not true. On boot up there is 89.4 Gb free. About the same as a MacBook Air with 128SSD. Plus you can free up even more by disabling some things and moving the recovery partition.
it seems a bit heavy though, I thought the ipad being 651grams was getting a bit fat. for me weight and retina display are the most important factors.

Hey PocketNow, big fan. Follow it all. Would you be able to install a copy of Inkscape on the Surface Pro and show how good that bad boy stylus is? Would be super keen to see how that sucker goes!

The Surface Pro will run all of your Android apps through Bluestacks, and you can make a Linux Virtual Machine if you want to compile your own Android ROMs.

Let's correct it to that it is quite the cheapest i5 device with a touchscreen! So it definitely has it's right to exist and be sold... I personally will wait a while though.. hoping for a slight price reducing and hopefully for that third possible keyboard-dock with an extra battery which has been indirectly announced..
I am not a fanboy I am simply pointing out the obvious which would you rather have an operating system that requires at least 40 GB of storage to operate itself or one only takes 5 GB. You choose.
Surface can do everything. iPad is for stuff you can already do on your phone.
For that you could get a Surface RT :) Free office with that one

Is not about the same space of the 128Gb MacBook Air. Out of the box the Macbook Air gives you about 120Gb.
Its basically a laptop so if the primary purpose is note taking and other school related stuff.......Go for it, Office 2013 OneNote is #Awesome!
There is a free Microsoft office in Surface RT? How do you know?

I still think I'll stick with my ultrabook though!! My HP Envy does real good job and i am quite happy with it for now!
Rather called it a Tablet PC . With Windows 8 Pro means that you can install your windows software on your desktop as usual , unlike the RT version . ^^ Damn! I want this shit!
On hand seems smaller than in the pictures, with a 64-GB MicroSD card replaces and a Notebook he uses to work.

No this can do anything that a regular Windows 8 Pro computer can (with comparable hardware).
That said, I recommend a Macbook Air.

It has 97.5 Gb of available space vs. 99.5 Gb available on a 128 SSD MacBook Air. Not a big difference.

Did you know that there is about same amount of free space in both Surface Pro 128Gb and Macbook Air 128Gb (Pro 90Gb vs Air 92Gb)? And if you take your recovery partition from Surface Pro, you will have 97,5Gb of free space.

the Surface Pro has a 1080p Screen not much less then the iPad
Which has 2048x1536 compared to 1920x1080
Retina means nothing more than a high saturation and a PPI above 250
The surface Pro has a PPI of 207 and the iPad 263 yes the iPad is sharper but you can do MUCH more with the Surface pro then with an iPad
Well i understand that but to me i could never use this the same way i would use a regular ten-ish inch tablet. The way that it comes and how bulky it is. And it is clear that microsoft is not shooting for just a tablet here when it comes with a usb port and keyboards. But to me i enjoy the ipad and other android tablets better because of the thinner smaller minimalistic size.
This thing is like a macbook pro and all other tabs are like macbook airs. And i get that... Its just not for me.
